Can't upgrade to WM6 using official HTC europe upgrade - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Hi.
I am trying to upgrade to WM6 and the updater fails at the position before starting the flash.
The phone's screen is off, and the ActiveSync session fails.
After some search I found out that the problem is caused from EnterBootloader.exe, which just shuts down the screen instead of putting the phone to BL.
I tried putting the phone to BL, and then the RUU_ executable can't connect to it when the phone is connected through USB, no matter the ActiveSync option (allow or not allow USB connections)
What to do ?
Thanks a lot
Michael.

Do you have an original WM5 ROM loaded, or a cooked one?
Also, which SPL are you running?

Manually put the phone into the bootloader by holding the ok button on the left side of the phone, the power button on the right and putting the stylus in the soft reset button on the bottom.
edit: i guess you've already tried this

Normal original wm5, haven't touched the phone with upgrades until now.
I know how to put the phone to bootloader mode, but then the ruu upgrade can't connect to it.
SPL 1.06

To see what? This message is present since the links to the ftp site are online, its more or less "self-defense" or limitation of damage.
If you sign in to the e-Club there's nothing in the "my downloads" section.

When I sign in to e-club, it has the download.
But I know your issue, I am sure they will fix it soon.

When I start to flash the sync. is oke but when the bootloader screen appears the flashing stops and the PDA is not connected anymore.
Try to launch again your update while you're in bootloader mode...It should work !!

I just did it but when my device is in bootloader mode there is now
connection with my notebook (VISTA) anymore. When I restart my
PDA the connection is established.
there is a wiki guide to flashing under vista..
please note, that when you start the updater, and your device goes in to bootloader, it times out. So connection is lost. Simply start the update again, with device still connected in bootloader

Yes I did already as you describe the result is still no connection (error).
hmm... i think you're gonna have to use Pof's splxploit to load hard-spl and then flash another ROM from there.
It's a question of whether SPL 3.03 is exploitable in the same way...

and now I am stuck in SPL 3.03. I think the best what I can do is waiting for
the official rom from HTC.

My HERM Is Running Without Radio (GSM)?!

PLZ help me, while trying to upgrade my HERM I lost the Radio, there is a message (No GSM) appearing during the boot.
I've tried many unofficial ROMs, but still getting the same message!!!
And when I tried to use the official ROM, the upgrade stopped on 11%!!??
To solve the hangup problem, I used unofficial ROM again, and after the upgrade I found the same GSM problem again.

Yes your problem is clear, you have no GSM. I don't know where you hail from, which exact PDA you have, your provider, what ROM you last used before this happened, etc..

Fine,,,
Device: at&t 8525
ROM: Original WM5 ROM, and while trying to upgrade it my device hanged up on the colored screen. To fix that, I've installed schap's 4.31 WM6 ROM using the MicroSD Card (HERMIMG). Now the device can boot but with No GSM at all (even there's no information about the GSM under Device Info).
The device now can accept any modified ROM (like schap's, faria, etc...) but unable to accept the official (original) ROMs. When I try to install any official ROM the upgrade process will stack on 11% every time.
So, the device still having no GSM.
Thank You....
FirasKB,
Most roms on her DO NOT come with a radio included. Usually only the manufacturer roms do.
There are 2 things you need to do:
- Consult the MrVanx guides which will help you understand what you are doing (google search for this).
- go to the wiki in this forum and search for a radio rom to upload.
In summary, reflash, say, Scahps rom then flash a radio rom from the wiki (I suggest radio 1.47, which is pretty reliable).
Hope this helps.

Ahhh, a little info.
First download the official AT&T 3.62 ROM which includes the 1.54.07.00 radio.
Reboot the pc with the PDA disconnected.
(Oh, make sure that you have ActiveSync 4.5 insttalled of course)
Put the device into bootloader mode (hold power and OK button while pressing reset with stylus, nice tri color screen will appear)
Connect the PDA to the USB cable and run the RUU_Inside.exe file.
wacky.banana is correct, most chef's don't include a radio. You've got a corrupted ROM (due to the incomplete flash) The RUU_Inside.exe will typically talk directly to the hardware when nothing else can and fix. I've personally recovered around 10 or so 8525's that I've "bricked" with bad flashes and then repaired with this method.
I can't guarantee that this will work but it IS your best shot friend.
Good luck!

I've done as you mentioned, but the upgrade process stopped on 11% again and couldn't complete!!?? (the message ERROR [262]: UPDATE ERROR appeared on my P.C)!!??
Kindly, advice...
I can't remeber what error 262 is about; however is your device unlocked? If it is not then you need to address that issue first (its in the wiki)
Secondly have you installed hard spl to your device BEFORE attempting to upgrade your rom? If the answer to this question is no then that will confirm that you have not read up on this before jumping in, which is hugely dangerous.

Stuck.... completely stuck
My fiances phone is stuck in the tri color bootloader screen. I am in the US and i have tried everything from flashing the original RUU to a hard reset and everthing, but nothing seems to work. the IPL is 4. 10. 0002 and the SPL is 4. 10. 0000. Can someone please help me. I know there has to be a way to fix this.
I had the same problem. After trying to fix it myself for about a week I gave up and sent it to AT&T Repair center. Got it back functional.
I haven't tried the Himalaya ROM method, though.

Thanks again to your support,
The problem happened when I tried to unlock the device to upgrade it (it was fine befor), I don't know whether it was already locked or not, but usualy when I buy any Pocket P.C I'm preparing to unlock it first (I've done that many times on HERMES before, but this is the first time I'm facing such problem!!). So, while unlocking the device it's stucked on the tri color screen.
I've done many things after that to solve the problem (updating the hard SPL to v2.10 successfully, flashing many ROMs -not including Radio- successfully).
So, I can flash any ROM now but it must be without Radio, otherwise the flashing process will stuck on 11%.
try reading the wiki:

wacky.banana,
As I wrote above, my problem still not solved and my device still running with (No GSM).
I've done the following:
- Updating the ROM (O.S only as the device not accepting any Radio ROM)
- Updating the SPL to Version 7.
- Trying to update the radio (separately) but I didn't success??!!
It seems there is no solution to fix this problem???!!!

i red this link already my friend but im not sure that i really understand the procedure in upgrading thats why im asking for the help of anybody who knows universal because it also iunclude in the link the procedure in upgrading wizard its very confusing for me.
thanks to your reply!
I have to agree with Andrei here, the doc is not very enlightening,
from what I have read there are a few things missing.
For example I don't know if I have to "unlock" my phone. I bought it on ebay they said it was unlocked, the phone was not available in USA&Canada they imported it somehow from Europe (it's an MDA Pro). I beleive it is unlocked already but ...some users here say "completly unlock your phone" ...which means...there are some other partial "unlocks" ???
The Wiki procedure says you have to backup your files...It is har to beleive that there is no standard reliable software that can be included and mentioned in this procedure. This is an important step and if anything goes wrong you must be able to find your way back to at least what you had had before you did the upgrade.
As for "the search button" ...I have tried that and ...)) the same results tons of answers ...you need years to read and to process all that info.
Guys,
After Having Device only for few days to upgrade may not be advisable. Therefore I suggest you to take few days to get to know your device and read more info.
REgarding the "Locked Device" means you would only able to use the device with the SIM of the Orginal carrier. As you already using the device in other country and other service provider..I guess you device is UNLOCKED.
Anyhow I will try to short describe how to upgrade goes.
1) Make sure you get the orginal OS of your device first. anything goes wrong you can flash back to that OS.
2) make sure you backup your personal files from the device( files;PIM;etc.etc)
3) make sure you have bootloader higher then V1.0
4) make sure you have full charged Battery
5) Remember that in cooked WM6 the vidoe call doesnt function anymore!!!
6) Download a cooked ROM available here in the Universal forum. ( the New ROM of Tomal V8.5 is great one)
7) I.E Tomals ROM file has got everything you need to Flash your device
8) Anything else is clearly descriebed in the WIKI "READ IT carefully"

Aparently if your PDA is seen by UNI_ExitBootloader.exe that means the reboot command is executed then you should be OK. But....I tried that and I had to try it twice, the first time didn't work.
So...apparently I will have to try to bootloder upgrade and after that burn the new ROM.
I still need a way to save the old one.
BTW, in what circumstances can yu damage your phone up to the point where you can not reflash it or use it anymore ?
nad one more question, will the phone work (calling and receiving calls) if the software is gone ? I believe it will not but...what do I know ? )
I'm also not totally clear on the instruction. Though they seem to be complete the style their written in leaves some questions.
If I have a G4 then is the file "HTC_Uni_SIM_Unlock_v1.rar" at ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Universal/Tools_and_Programs/ is what is needed to unlock CID/EROM locks in preparation for ROM flashing?
Or is SIM unlocking totally different from the unlocking were talking about?
Thank you vary much!

4.2) Put your device in boot loader mode with button Comb. >power B + Back light B + Push the reset B <with stylus until you see on the screen the Boot loader Screen. Connect Device to your Computer.
4.3) Start the TML_v85_WM61_20764_ST.exe with double click and the installation will start.

4.6) Push button comb. >push left soft key B + push right soft B + Push with stylus the reset B< untill you see message on the screen ....Push "0 (nill)" to set device to factory setting or something..
Well then you should be fine and completed your upgrade. AGAIN CHECK THE UPGRADE WITH VISTA.. I have no experience with Vista.

I've tried doing a hard reset, but I still end up with the same problem. I can get the phone into the bootloader mode (green, blue red) but everything I've searched around (read the wiki, tried google, youtube, etc.) says that I need to be connected to ActiveSync in order to flash a rom onto it.
Is there any way to flash this thing while in bootloader mode or am I screwed?
Thanks!!
Stickys, official roms & hard-reset bootloader.
Thanks for the quick response, Stylez!
I've read the "hard reset and bootloader" post, which is how I learned to put the device in bootloader mode (thanks to you!)
I've also downloaded the necessary ROM file and loader from the other sticky you mentioned. (I did read and search on my own before asking)
But when I try to run the ROMUpdateUtility.exe it tells me to connect the device to activesync which I can't really do because it's in Bootloader mode and WindowsMobile Device Center says it's not connected.
Try this.
Did you SDA and Surreal unlocked your cell prior to flashing?
If not, do so. You can find both files in the Wiki or in one of the stickies I am sure.
SDA Unlock it from desktop, reboot, Surreal, drag it in the device, install it, once installed... go to the ROM you chose and run the AUTO file, not RUU... you should follow the instructions of when to click on and the center button on the device, now, (this might occur) I know it does make the sound of restarting and when you load the ROM say v1.7a Ricky and Styles RoseROM, it won't go over 3% saying it can't find the device... just click on the RUU this time, and I bet you that this time it will find the device and load it. Try it and let me know.
When I run the SDA Unlock, the button remains greyed out because it doesn't recognize the device is connected to the computer. Is it supposed to even though it's on the bootloader screen?
The white bootloader screen is only needed when you flash a new ROM into it. You need to connect the device NOT in bootloader but just as is when turned on normally so that the ActiveSync will recognize it.
Same thing for Surreal, you just drag it in the phone and install it as you would install any .cab.

Thanks, but unfortunately I can't get this thing to boot past the T-Mobile splash screen. Is there no way to flash it without Activesync?
Also, I'm in the Red/Green/Blue bootloader (hold the camera button and attach USB cable) not the White one.
So, you are running the T-Mobile flash, yet you can't go past the initial screen? Did you just get it like this or did you flash it before... ???
Did you try to run USPL CID BYPASS? It might get it into white bootloader mode, just assuming. If not, then do as I suggested, when it says it doesn't find the device, re-run the RUU. As posted above.
I got the phone like this from a friend. So, who knows what could be wrong with it.
The bootloader screen says it's running 1.22.0000 and as far as I know, it's the default TMobile rom.
It won't get passed the T-Mobile initial screen. It will just turn back off after a few minutes. I can get it into the Bootloader mode as mentioned before, so I assumed I'd be able to flash it to fix whatever is preventing it from booting fully.
It seems, however, that something more severe may be wrong with the phone if the computer can't register that it's connected which prevents me from running any kind of CID BYPASS programs or SDA Unlock utilities.
Any other suggestions?
I am gonna think about it, but hopefully the more expert in here will help you sooner. I personally think your buddy messed up while flashing or something. Because if he did not, then he can just send it back and get another one from T-Mo. Plus, not being there to see makes things a bit more complicated this once.
Are you even connected to ActiveSync when in bootloader mode? I don't mean you, I mean in general.
And btw, did you try to do what I suggested you?
Connect the phone, get it in bootloader, try to flash the T-Mo ROM and clickon AUTO.bat, an image is on the guide with pics sticky thread in here... that should open and ms-dos thing, even if it opens the loader and doesn't go over 3%, this time... click on the RUU icon.. it worked for me last night and for the T-Mo ROM you shouldn't need any sda or surreal stuff. Try it...
You can get the T-Mo ROM from their web-site or here too.
I know you can go on youtube and look up upgrade to kavana, there is a guy who has it for download. Thing is T-Mo asks you for a cell number to verify you are the owner of the phone so you might have to insert your friend's number.

No, while in bootloader and connected via USB, ActiveSync (WindowsMobile Device Center in Vista) says that there is no device connected.

I tried this step, however, when the DOS box opens, it tells me it cannot find the phone and asks to try again. I do this repeatedly and get nothing. I also tried clicking NO on the retry, but nothing.

Tried that too, I actually have T-Mobile so I put in my own number. I ended up with the same error message about not finding a phone. Is it supposed to find the phone when connected in Bootloader mode?
Thanks for your help, btw
Thanks for explaining that. I think you might have yourself a bit of a problem.
I'll ponder on it and let you know. Can't you return it in exchange for another Dash?
What ROM are you trying to flash? I would recommend that you go to T-Mobile.com/wmupgrade and download the current Officially Dash ROM and recover the device that way. If you do not have a T-Mobile phone number, I can get you one that you may use to access the download page.
Once you reflash the official rom I recommend you do the CID unlock and flash a 6.1

I recommend reading the thread before posting. All you proposed I already mentioned and he answered. Look above...

[HELP] USB connection is lost during flash

Hi,
I want to install a new ROM and by 0% i don't know way, but the USB-connection is lost! The setup say that I can connect again, but Windows 7 doesn't recognize the HTC TouchPro2
What can I do to save my TP2?
neon
welcome!
a little more information!
is your device hardspl´d?
no recovery-message-thing after the lost connection?
can you go to bootloader?
if your device is harspl´d, have you tried to flash a stock rom via sd-card? ( search the wiki)
Sorry,
yes, there was a recovery-message after the lost connection, but after 2 trys it closed itself. On my screen I see the grey background with "0% done"
What you mean with hardspl'd? Hardreset? I doesn't do anything, because I don't want to lose my brand new phone :-/ *argh*
I don't do a reboot, so I doesn't know if I can go to the bootloader. Can I restart my Phone?
can´t really tell you if you can restart your phone, could be worth a try, take your battery out and wait a few seconds
for explanation:
if you got a branded phone (t-mobile, at&t...) you can only flash offical roms from that specific provider.
if you got an unbranded phone from htc you can flash htc roms, links ar at wiki
for flashing custom roms you need to hardspl your device...
someone correct me if i´m wrong, i´m always willing to learn something new...
for harspl look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550131
for flashing your first rom go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550540
and always: READ THE STICKIES!
if you can´t bring your phone back to live i would suggest you pm cmonex for your problem... she´s the best
It is a unbranded phone from htc. Are you sure I must hardspl my phone? Because I read the flashing tut from NRGZ28 and he say nothing about hardspl.
Edit: What means "this package is for Rhodium (Touch Pro 2, not the original Touch Pro) devices. CDMA-GSM worldphone version is not accepted (RHOD400, RHOD500 modelids), that will have its own Hard-SPL later. "? I have a german version of the HTC TP2.
is your ActiveSync fully updated? I was trying to flash my phone at work on my laptop but I just couldn't do it. I got home and flashed it fine on my desktop. Turns out ActiveSync was slightly out of date and it wouldn't work. Both computers were Windows 7 btw, x86 and x64 respectively
I'm still see the grey display with the 0% process bar. I think this is the reason why Win7 doesn't regognize the device. But I don't know if I can reboot. variosteph wasn't sure...
I install the WMDC 6.1 some minutes ago.
Ok, I forgot to Hard-SPL. It is very bad? What's the consequences?

there are different rhodiums for different bands...
german one should be RHOD100, to be sure took out your battery and read behind...
so take your battery out and see what happen...
to flash a custom rom you need always
1. Active Sync or WMDC - phone synced
2. hardspl - follow the tut
3. flash your custom rom...
did you try flashing your phone without activesync or WMDC?
kannst mir auch ne pm schreiben, auf deutsch isses evtl leichter zu erklären...bin noch ca 30 minuten da...
du hast eh nur 2 möglichkeiten, restart oder warten...
Ok, I restart my Phone and it works! *yeppie*

No, I use WMDC. But I install the 6.1 update again to be sure I have the WDMC full updated.
Ok, know I try to install the hardspl and then the custom ROM
THX for the help!
I ran into a similar issue only I couldn't get it to flash through a Windows 7 virtual on my Mac. I was able to do it from my Windows 7 Tablet PC just fine and also on Win XP. If you are having an issue you can try running the enablerapinew cab file. I don't remember who posted it but it worked when I had issues. If you did not HardSPL you will not likely get it to work. I have flashed my phone about 15 times since NRG started hooking it up with his ROMs so it's pretty reliable. As long as your PC doesn’t crash or phone die in the middle of flashing you will be fine. If you are worried or unsure thoroughly read through the forums under noob flashing guides and do your research.

yes the harspl will work and always shut down your antivirus software for hardspl/flashing roms!
viel spass beim flashen, nur nicht übertreiben, kann süchtig machen!
Ok, last question (I hope):
I'm verfiy the hardspl and I'm in the bootloader. How to close it? Take out the battery?

edit: to close bootloader just softreset...
:?
*Go into BootLoader Mode (do a Soft Reset while holding the "volume down" key on the left side of the device. Keep holding the "volume down" key until you see tricolour screen which is the bootloader mode, then release it) and verify the screen shows 0.85.OliNex, which is the HardSPL version*

The next step is to install the ROM. But how to close the bootloader? After the installation the device boot regular and I make a softreset to confirm the hardspl.
Whats better? Install from sd-card or over WMDC?

let me correct some things in your post: unbranded phones still have a CID, so still can't flash any htc rom, only specific ones (for the country the phone was meant for).
