Hello all,
I just bought a Jasjar a few days ago.
I have past experience with WM devices in general and had a few HTC devices also.
The installed ROM in my JJ is:
R 1.09.00
D 1.30.76 WWE
P 42.42.P8
Bootloader 0.6
1. Is this what they call: JASJAR_WWE_13076_164_10900_wwe_ship ?
2. Where can I find the lateset guide how do flash a new ROM on my device?
3. I heard there was a tool developed by one of the members here who can help preventing the rom to get corrupted ( brick something ? ) during the update can you please link me ?
4. Can anyone who own a JJ ( or had one in teh past ) recommend me on a fast and stable WM5 ROM he is using ?
What I need to have in the ROM is:
- Voice dialing using BT headset
- Speed ( as fast as possible )
- Space ( the more the better )
- Stability ( must be stable cause I don't have much time to troubleshoot it all day )
- Video call - not a must but nice to have if possible
- Fully operational BT and WIFI
Thanks in advance to all helpers
WOW... One at a time please... not all at once...
If I asked too much in my previous post then I appologize.
I will appreciate it a lot if anyone can just recommend me on a fast and stable ROM for JJ.
Thanks for the helpers ( if there will be any )
Try KDS Kamal's WM5 ROM. You won't regret it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319838
As for instructions, every file is included on the ZIP. It ONLY contains the CE ROM file, which is the only thing you need now. You can upgrade the Radio version later if you prefer. I suggest look for Radio 1.15 or 1.14.10.
Instructions:
1: Extract the folder.
2: Place your device on boot loader mode by pressing these 3 buttons ALL AT THE SAME TIME:
Backlight Button
Reset Pin
Power Button
DON'T BE ALARMED IF YOUR DEVICE WON'T TURN ON. LOOK AT THE SCREEN AND YOU WILL SEE THE BOOT LOADER VERSION.
3: Now you are ready for your very 1st upgrade. Connect your device via USB.
4: Double click the file Ma_upgrade_NO ID to run it and follow the on screen instructions.
Good Luck.
---
I also recommend that you look for the Ext ROM Unlocker prior to the upgrade and delete the contents of the Extended ROM as you don't need it. The EXT ROM contains customizations of the previous ROM so it will definitely mess up whatever ROM you will flash.
---
Thank you very much
I will get on it.
I have done some reading and searching about those procedure you mentioned, may I ask a few questions just to be sure ?

Sure. Just post it.
Ok here it goes:
1. I heard there was a tool developed by one of the members here who can help preventing the rom to get corrupted ( bricked ) during the update.
Is it possible to get a link to it ?
2. Can you please confirm on the ROM flashing actions order ?
I was just about to run and flash the ROM's you guys suggested but then I noticed that "boot Loader" version should be changed and also EXT. ROM...
I have "boot loader" v0.60 do I need to upgrade it before ROM change ?
3. You mention that i should clear the Ext. ROM content, how can I know which files to delete in the Ext. ROM and which to keep? Will the new ROM write it's own files to the Ext. ROM ?
4. After I delete those unneeded files from Ext. ROM, can I use the space became available for daily use storage purposes ? if yes how ?
that's it for now
Thanks again for your time and effort

I have not heard about that. I've always used the MaUpgrade NO ID Tool and I have been flashing more that 200 times already. My XDA is 1 year and a half old. Never had any problem.

1st: Install Extended ROM Unlocker prior ro upgrade and delete or save a copy of the contents of the Ext ROM.
2nd: Hard reset your device but don't configure or do anything, just let it CHARGE TO FULL CAPACITY TILL YOU SEE THE GREEN INDICATOR LIGHT.
3rd: Extract the contents of the folder. If you need more explanation: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=269118
4th: Place your device on BOOT LOADER MODE:
by pressing these 3 buttons ALL AT THE SAME TIME:
Backlight Button
Reset Pin

5th: You can now connect your Universal via USB. (NOT THROUGH A USB HUB AND DISABLE YOUR FIREWALLS.)
6th: Follow on screen instructions.
7th: Soft reset after upgrade is done.

I have not upgraded my boot loader to anything. Mine is Version 1.00. I don't know if you have to upgrade to any versions. READ ABOUT THIS FIRST.

The current contents of your ext rom is for the current CE ROM. Not deleting all of it will cause conflicts on the new ROM you are going to use. It is just like myself wearing someone else's dirty old clothes.

YES, you can use the 9.93MB EXT ROM just like a SD Card. It can NOT be merge as of yet. You can use the Ext ROM Unlocker. But beware, if you unlock the Ext ROM and configured your mail attachment to be stored in the SD card, it will use the EXT ROM as the default Storage Card. Causing your Storage Card to be renamed as Storage Card 2.

For my experiences you will get trouble if you have "boot loader" v0.60 and upgrade to WM6. You need min. V1.0
Thank you Bulldog, I'm not upgrading to WM06.
I want to flash another ROM but to stay with WM05.
Should I upgrade my "Boot Loader" to 1.2 anyway ?
what's the use of this "Boot loader"?
BR
Sam
You could compare bootloader with BIos of your PC.
I have personaly no experience with V1.2 but since I have read here,it suppose to be o.k.
good Luck and happy flashing
KAMAL Ultimat WM5 Edition is The Best
Thats just my Opionion, have not come across any problems from that Version than from the rest om wm5 & wm6,Ive been testing all roms for months, and can just say that this is the Best rom.Greets
Thanks for the tip M8,
I already download it and will get to it as soon as I have the time and a quiet enviroment...
OK ! I made it !!!
I flashed the bootloader from 0.60 to 1.01 according to bulldog's advise and then the ROM according to Christian's instruction and it went well! the device is faster, more pretty ( thanks to Kamal ) and have much more memory ( 70MB vs ~40MB )
The whole process took me less then 15 mins and it was a no brainer
Don't know why I was so afraid to do it up until now...
Many thanks to Christian and Bulldog for the showing me the way!
And of course to KAMAL for his good looking and fast ROM.
One issue tho': I couldn't install the Hebrew support and got a: "Couldn't recognize the platform" error.
I manage to overcome it by exctracting the cabs from the EXE file, copy it to the device and running the CABS from the device.
Other then that everything is looking good, Im installing the GPS software and all my apps and will update if any problems.
Thanks again
I need help too
Hey guys, Can't say i'm much different then SAMJJ. After seeing the excellent support he received from BULLDOG & CHRISTIAN i decided to ask the questions.
First of all, i've got a jasjar with WM% and following setup:
ROM Version: 1.30.82 WWE
ROM Date: 02/22/06
Radio Version: 1.09.00
Protocol Version: 42.42.P8
ExtRom Version: 1.30.171 WWE
Now here's the deal, i would like to upgrade to WM6. I need a link to the most stable, bug free version possible. Let me say that i am looking for speed without loosing any of the new features of WM6.
Furthermore, i want to continue using bluetooth & wifi without a problem.
also one more thing i want to setup my JASJAR to use the IPhone theme as it shows below:
The problem is currently the version of this theme is only available for QVGA devices, while JJ is a VGA screen. So i had to resize the icons and background for VGA size in WisBar & WAD, but it is too much work and the result is not that good.
I know OZANKILIC came up with a VGA version few days ago but i need something free and easy to setup. pls. advise also. Awaiting your wonderful feedback at the soonest.

Hello tuckeyfh,
You can take a look here:
http://218.93.115.138/d900/wm6
The site is a bit slow and sometimes fail to load but refreshing a few times and it's ok.
I didn't dig much into the WM6 issue so I don't know much about it but for now I prefer using a fast and stable WM5 since I heard there still quite a few apps and drivers issues with WM6.
From my browsinf in the net the most recommendations of WM6 ( AKA "Crossbow") I saw on the net were by JWRIGHTMCPS, Dark force & PDAviet but I'm sure there are others, you just need to download them all and try one by one.
Good luck

Don't get upset but you really should read the site a bit more before posting such a thread.
Everything you need to know is right here if only some of you guys would search and have a read first.
To take the edge of the above lol here is where everything you need to know is read carefully before attempting anything you can damage your device.

Hi again..
HELP!! I must be really dense.. I am not sure how I managed to procreate..
But I've downloaded the /O2_UK_XDAIIs_WWE_13100_139_10600_SHIP/ file.. and I've applied the changes as per http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_GettingStarted
Now before I actually RUN this against my working phone, I am wondering, if as well as upgrading the windows operating system, will it change my phone from a look and feel t-mobile environment to a O2 one??
Am I right in thinkng that the extended rom is the O2/T-Mobile specific programs??
Basically I am looking for My T-Mobile with the latest microsoft windows OS..
THanks for your patience and help
You're going to have to put in a bit of time and effort to get what you want.
The update has three parts, Base OS, ExtROM and Radio ROM.
The first and last will be OK, but the ExtROM is customised for each provider (ie O2, Orange etc).
It might be best unlocking your ExtROM (search for how), and save it. Work out what is OK, what needs updating and what is operator customisation. assemble a set of CAB files that match all the criteria for your phone and T-Mobile.
Replace the ExtROM with the files you have assembled and then update the base OS and radio ROMs, leaving the ExtROM as you have just altered it.
When the upgrade is finished a hard reset will run your new ExtROM with specific T-Mobile customisations you have gathered.
Although I didn't need to change the Base OS and Radio ROMs, I did manage to convert an XDA IIs to an SPV M2000 by altering the ExtROM, so the method works.

Hi, I'm thinking about upgrading my MDAIII cos I'll probably die/kill myself before tmobile does anything about it
What did you end up with in your external ROM to keep all the tmobile gubbins. And did it work the same as before?
The tmobile stuff might not be great but don't know what the phone would be like without it.
Also any chance of you zipping up your ext rom and putting it on the ftp?
Upgrading T-Mobile Roms
A word of warning - be careful if you use the Blackberry (Insant Email) Service with T-Mobile UK, as it has been reported that it will not work with any radio higher than 1.06.
Good luck with upgrading and please post back for us less brave MDA III owners
No worries about Blackberry here. I would remove it anyway more than likely if doing a ROM upgrade as its not doing anything for me other than taking up space.
Sure..
I am decorating the house at the moment... But I will zip up my existing ext rom this weekend.. and I;ll let you know whats working...
Theres a generic 1.40 rom floating around on this site.. when I got theres a ext rom with that... and all I did was take the T-Mob cabs from my existing rom and dropped them in the ext rom directory..
But I will take my existing ext rom from my phone and zip that up for you..
so far everything is working... havent had any real problems with the phone SO FAR!!

Hi,
did you get chance to upload the ROM yet? I've had a look round on the ftp and can't find it. Don't mean to be an a*?e chasing you if you haven't had time yet, just wondering if its me being stupid not being able to find it :?
Dude!
I am really sorry it took so long, I have had a really bad week..
Well the good news is that I have just zipped my external rom for you.. but for some reason I cant upload it to the ftp site.. (mind you I am not entirely sure where to put it)
It comes in at 12MB so I cant email it.. so the alternatives to me finding it is you giving me an msn messenger Id and I could send it from there..
i will continue to look to find a way to upload it..

Hey all, Does anyone here have a Dopod 818Pro that did NOT install the EXT ROM from the initial setup? If so do you know where to find it to install individual programs from the EXT ROM cab files?
I looked EVERYWHERE on the Dopod (using Resco File Explorer, all hidden files un-hidden) and I can't find the EXT ROM files to save my life....
Any ideas as to where they may be hiding? I want to install just the JAVA and Voice Commander...
Thanks!!!
voyager
You can download the ext Rom for Dopod 818 pro from the link here:
http://www.filegone.com/2r74
Thanks for the info, however, I just need to find the EXT ROM that is already on my device. I soft reset the device right after the inital set up to prohibit the EXT ROM from loading. This way I could go in with a file explorer and just load the .cab files that I wanted to load. The problem is that now I can't find the EXT ROM files anywhere on the device (I know they are there somewhere). On the Imate JAM (magician) these files were in a folder named "EXT_ROM" and you could go in and select the .cab files you wanted to load. Apparently this is not possible on the Prophet.
Thanks, though!!

I use the following unhide extrom progam from the following thread, it works for Dopod 818 pro. One thing to take note is that it will create a storage card folder and making your existing storage card to storage card 2. I delete the storage card once I have done my changing of the configuration and the storage card2 will be back to storage card.

showing ext rom
A quick way is using the freeware Total commander and typing ext_rom at the address bar. You'll then see the contents!
I had already flashed the OS of my 818Pro (Chinese version) to WWE version. But... cannot copy files into the Extended_rom, said write protected. Now I still cannot have the smartdialer working. Please help!! Teach me how to override the protection.

P.S. actually one of the reason of buying 818Pro for its Smartdialer, I felt extremely upset when I found that chinese version has no Smartdialer built-in.
One more thing, WWE version seems to be a bit smoother, even though I have already had the CE Star loaded. Still under testing, shall share will you guys later.

Thanks for the help everyone!!!!! Quick question, I am such a noob to this flashing ROM thing...so here's my question:
I downloaded the EXT ROM un-hide cab and ran it. I can now see my extended rom. I have copied this extended rom to my storage card as a back up (by the way, my SD card still shows as "Storage Card" not "Storage Card 2"). OK, I have also downloaded the Dopod 818Pro ROM (WWE) from the upload folder on the ftp site.... here's the question-
Is it possible to "re-flash" my Dopod 818Pro (which is already WWE) with this WWE ROM from the ftp site, and if so, will the extended rom folder get put into the device or not? I ask this because it seems the EXT ROM folder is seperated from the actual ROM folder. In other words, can I flash my 818Pro with this other WWE ROM **WITHOUT** the Extended ROM and therefore increase my storage space by just loading what I want out of the copy of the EXT ROM folder I have on my Storage Card?
Sounds confusing????? Try being in my shoes
Thanks all!

I followed your procedure to a tee and worked fine, (thanks btw as your post was all I could find regarding upgrading English ROM from Chinese), the only problem I face after the WWE upgrade is that I have three programs in the device that are still not converted. Since there is no Chinese characters the font are small boxes. Not sure what they even are since I don't have an English ROM to compare. Can anyone help out with one. All I can tell you is the icons are one with a 'speaker & a wrench" "folder with a hammer & wrench" "head/body with microphone" Sorry for such a newbie post but I just need some help, thanks to all.
P.S. I ONLY flashed the OS not the radio and used it from XDA's ftp Dopod 818Pro WWE into my Dopod 818Pro Chinese version.
you have to install chinese plug-in, such as CE-Star or Monster
Update: My friend came by with his Dopod 818 Pro that he purchased already with English ROM, I dumped his ROM onto my PC and wrote it to mine, still the same problem, really don't understand it but I found out what programs are the one's I am having issue's with.
1) Cyberon Voice commander, (Icon in settings and icon in Programs)
2) Auto Config icon
Both are displaying strange font. I have removed the Cyberon but after flashing it with my friends ROM, (which doesn't even have Cyberon), it was present after flashing with his ROM. Go figure.
anybody who knows to unlock 818Pro's ext_rom ?
I can see now, but i can't do anything............

Hi there, I've flashed my 818pro CHT ver. to WWE ed. ROM from the ftp. It works fine for me. I really hate the CHT ver. keyboard layout (without block recognizer, letter recognizer, in addition, CHT ver. cannot use smartdailer, without phone pad etc..)
The version of the WWE on the ftp is version 5.0 OS 5.1.70(build 14409.1.1.2) NOT 2.0
As, I see there is somebody on the web got the 2.0 ver. which is fully support BT 2.0 and the A2DP.(German ver. I wounder why German ver. is more update than WWE edition)
SO, if anyone got the 2.0 ver. pls dump it and put it on the web(I believe 818pro EU or US edition may be in this ver.) MANY THX
The photos are dumped by the others NOT me (from 818pro)

Hi to all!
I'm a new qtek 9000 (dangaard) owner, and i started one week ago to look for tweaks and so on.. so here i am! i red every forum and many, many messages, but none gave me an answer...
Special attention (and thanks) go to buzz for his deep knowledge and tutorials.
My actual goal is to FULLY backup (dump) ALL that is needed to FULLY restore the ORIGINAL (warranty not voided) firmware/software.
To do this i tried 2 methods:
1) task32, d2m from boot loader : NO SUCCESS , usual "not allow operation" message; i have bootloadr 1.0 , so i think is not possible, BUT CAN I DOWNGRADE the loader, dump, and then RESTORE my 1.0 loader ? how to do it (if yes) ??
2) the "pdocread" method: ok, but in the qtek.raw there is NOT MY radio, and so on.... how can i get MY original ones ?
p.s. there is no official upgrade for my qtek yet... so i can't' use it only wity my pdocreaded os...
Thanks a lot to everyone!! and please give me answers )
rom dump
I too would like a simple walkthrough on how to dump Radio , Rom and Extended rom.
Hats off too Buzz and many but I have tried to make sense of various posts and all seem to go off abit for us simple folk.
Does someone out there have answers please to:
1) Can a rom back up (dump) be done.
2) When dump has completed does original rom stay on device or does dumping it mean it's gone from universal completly.
3) Can you save these images and install them back onto universal at a latter date.
If this is possible how? What software do we need to do it?
I want to update the crapy slow rom on my M5000. But to cover my arse I would like the option to restore it to it's factory shipped state if it all goes belly up!
so folks ??
does someone takes care to give us an explanation of all this ??
Hey guys, just PM me... I'm now at work but have made a word document on how to do this adn it's at home.
I also had this dilema... I have a Spanish QTEK and no official ROM so here goes....
1. If you want the .DOC, pm me where to send it - i take no responsibility for the results but will help if you get stuck somewhere or need clarification on the steps.
2. I got the my radio (1.03.00) from the english qtek ROM by copying the radio_.nbf file as radio's are not language dependent (as far as i know). The OS, i created the QTEk.RAW with pdocread, the Extended_ROM i just copied and pasted. That's how I backed-up my device that I can restore again still "under warranty" so to DUMP/BACKUP
2.1 OS : Use pdocread
2.2 Extended_ROM : Just copy and paste
2.3 Radio : Get it from a ROM update with same radio version.
Hope this helps
Hi guys,
I have a newbie question, please.
I read something about ROM is language dependent.
My O2 XDA2 has a ROM version 1.03.00 USA, can I do an upgrade to a 1.72.187 UK version? If no, is there an US version upgrade available? where can I find it?
Thanks for any help.

Hi, lastnight i upgraded my radio from .03 to .09 and it worked perfectly, as normal i had to make sure the phone was in bootloader mode to make t work, i got the files from this sites FTP server, XDA-Developers site is all you need!
Thank you to everybody that gives there views and advice freely!
P.S i got Pocket plus to install after i did another hard reset, phewwww
Don't want to sound stupid but ...
.. is upgrading your ROM an easy thing to do for a non teckie ?
Do you need to hard reset etc etc. ?
Is there a guide out there ?
Don't wanna take the plunge and mess things up. I've got loads of software and tweaks on my SPVM5000 - will Sprite Back up re-install with a new ROM. I'm also on 1.13.49 same as jab1a.
Hello All,
If i replace my xda exec rom to orange rom, it will be locked?
Another question, where can i get the radio rom 1.09 to flash the orange rom?
Thank you,
racerx
Hi Rick GM,
the ROM upgrade is pritty easy and the Radio update is aswell, everything you need to know or might not need to know about the update is in the WiKi and forum. its real easy.
As for backups, im not sure how this works but for good measure before i did the upgrade i did a FULL backup, then i did a non-rom backup (i.e i just backed-up the things i had installed on the m5000) then i did a PIM and message backup (note: i only ever have problems with a restore when i decide to restore the messages databases so unless you realy need to i would only backup the PIM(contacts) database). I think if you tryed to do a full backup and then do the upgrade and then restore the full backup you might run into a few errors or incompatability. it only takes about 30mins to do the update and about another 20mins to re-install all your software and then the rest of your life to get all the setting you want just right! lol
I am sure you will do fine, after all this is the best site in the world for PPC so im sure someone here would be able to help you if it all goes pear shaped
Moved thread from news section
Thanks for that jab 1a
I haven't taken the plunge yet but it's coming !
I think your 20 minutes to re-instal software is a bit optimistic even if all goes well. I reckon it will take me an hour plus to sort out all the cr*p that I've got on my device. (I keep a copy of everything but some's on my home PC and some at work).
I'll update you when I finally pluck up courage / find the time.
BTW - I'm only going to do it because you can. Isn't that what these devices are all about ?

Well I upgraded with the ROM from the Orange site (1.30.90) - no problem. That's good news.
Sprite Backup V5.1 is newly released this week and boasts cross ROM/Device backup capability after capturing your old ROM in .sbu file immediately after hard reset and prior to ROM upgrade.
It hasn't worked - it won't recognise my .sbu file (Invalid Upgrade File) or words to that effect so it looks like a slog to put everything back on (unless Sprite can restore (no pun intended) my faith in them and come up with an answer. Might have a go at the Radio Rom next.
I have the new ROM from Qtek into my Universal. Is it worth the upgrade to this new Orange ROM?
best regards,
Deiota

Sprite really screwed up here.
When they released 5.1, they re-introduced their killer rom upgrade proof restore feature. It even works for the new self-extracting restores. How cool is that?
Now, today, I had to have my SPV M5000 replaced (same model) because of a screen problem, and knew the replacement would be AKU2, so I purchased Sprite 5.1 to back up with. I looked around all the different pages I could find showing how to use Device Upgrade Mode. All had links to the same GetUpgradeData.exe. So, even though I had that nagging developers' intuition that this must be wrong, I assumed it was the right version. I only had twelve hours to puchase, get the file down, and do all the backup stuff.
Then I exchanged devices with the courier. (Orange care is great (mostly!)). However, when I tried to restore, what a surprise: "Invalid Upgrade File". Checked back on Sprite Site - ONE page out of the five or six links to GetUpgradeData2005.exe. Howl !!!! :x
Can someone please post an UpgradeData.sbu, from a clean vanilla Pre-AKU2 M5000, dumped with the new GetUpgradeData2005.exe, otherwise someone at Sprite is just gonna have to die. Lots.
Many, Many thank yous in advance!
Update: Sprite have kindly offerred to provide an sbu for 1.13.53 WWE.
Unfortunately, as best as I can remember, mine Rom was 1.13.49 WWE.
Can anyone please tell me of an identifying characterstic by which I dould have distinguished the two versions (bearing in mind - I don't have the device any more), or even better an upgrade file (sbu) for 1.13.49 WWE?
Mutant
I too used the GetUpgradeData.exe as advised by Sprite. After registering my problem they advised me to use the GetUpgradeData2005.exe and sent me a copy. Unfortunately I'd already upgraded the ROM so didn't have the .sbu pre upgrade. I've since got a clean 1.13.49 from a colleagues Orange SPV M5000 but the backup still didn't work. Sprite recognised the .sbu but just messed up the device (after partially restoring) requiring several hard resets. If you want the .sbu, I think I've got it stored somewhere. Let me know.

What should you do:
1) READ THE ENTIRE THREAD OF THE ROM BEFORE FLASHING (IF THERE IS BETA SIGN!!!!
2) you can either keep it - it will work if you take off the SIM card and Hard reset the device, then turn off automatic time update from network AND do not try to synchronize the device via AS (taht way the device will know the correct time and block itself again)
3) Flash any other ROM - you do not need Active sync to be working to flah a ROM, just put your device into Bootloader, plug the usb cable and if the bootloader says USB you can flash whatever ROM you want. If you want WM6.1 you can use PDA viet ROM (works without time bomb, but it is not very stable).
The PDA Viet WM6.1 works great after setting PagePool to 6mb instead of the default 4mb. Before doing that, it was extremely buggy and unstable.

It telling you what it says .. Image file is corrupt so try a different ROM, like a factory rom for your device.
And did you read the wiki recommending to flashed Hard-SPL on your Hermes before flashing any radio or ROM?
yes i read any.
But i suppose there are problem because i have the same problem with diffrents roms... I 'm trying to resolve the problem...
after few pourcents, it restart and tell this messages
I tried 6 or 7 roms and 1 official, no way to install.
All rom tell me at 1% that the image rom is corrupt. Before it worked but since the WM6 , no way.
The official rom tell me at 1% that the vender id is invalid...
I don't know what doing...

Well did you flash Hard-SPL on it first before flashing any ROM?
You might have to try flashing from SD card now since you can't flash it via usb. It explained in the wiki.
