Hi Guys,
I was wondering, has anyone played with the registry or seen an app that will mute the SMS Ringtones??
I had WM5, WM6, and i currently have WM6.1, if I have a longer sms ringtone, when i receive the ringtone will keep playing, even tho i read the sms and replied....
Is this normal?
Can I somehow Fix it?
Thanks,
Have a Great Day!
How is that a bug ?! Make a shorter ringtone!!! Problem solved!
DUH!!
In this day and age, do we even have to say that anymore?!?
I mean COME ON.
IT is a Bug!
its a bug because how come on other phones, when a txt message arrives, if u press any button, the ringtone immediately stops????
Na its not a bug its how the dash reads the file.
I would really like this "feature" added as well. Or a way to implement it with a registry edit, etc.
I use a very long, beeping sound byte for my text message arrival sound. The reason I do this is for work purposes. I receive pages to my mobile phone. If I receive the page and then start to view the new text, it would be nice if the sound would stop playing automatically.
I realize that this thread has been buried for sometime now, but I recently discovered this problem as well, and wanted to see if anyone has come to any resolution to this (besides the ones that say make it shorter etc etc). A real resolution like a reg edit or something of the sorts. Thanks.
its common sense make it shorter.. jus time it.. um cmon

You obviously missed my posting. I want to be able to hit a button, and make it stop. I realize that making it shorter will fix this, but that's not what I'm after. There is apparantly no fix for it as of yet, and your answer would be the obvious, but again, not what I was looking for. Thanks for not even reading my post.
no problem thats why lm here lol
damnit i missed all the [email protected]#
its not over yet ha ha it jus begun
do you know why when i add guns n' roses - november rain (9:12 long) as my text beep, it plays for 9 [email protected]!#[email protected]
jk man...honestly its not a bug...its the length of the file...there is software you can cut up mp3's with to make them the length you want. i ran across something today...let me go see if i can find it...ill send it to you if you want. let me know.

you could just go the htc touch/diamond attchments. im pretty sure theres an mp3 trimmer
LOL, I understand that its not a bug within the Excalibur itself, but any other (as a matter of fact EVERY other) cell phone I have ever come across, (roughly 30 or so) has had that feature. Yes, thats what we'll call it... a FEATURE. Ok, so, let me rephrase my whole posting.....
Has anyone come across any software that will add the FEATURE of making the "file" stop playing by a key press? If so, I would greatly appreciate it... Thanks.
Example:
If im upstairs, and I don't hear the phone, and come back downstairs, then I would love to hear the end of the 3 or 4 minute song thats playing to let me know I received a text message. I'm not going to just go check it every time just because I just came back downstairs. Now if the phone is in my hand, I would love to just be able to push a key and make it stop. That simple.

Edit. Edit. Edit.
we messin with you.. we kno wat u talkin bout.. like other phones.. wen u wanna read it.. the song will jus stop.. but theres nothin you can do.. its not a bug.. thats jus the way it is.. if u find somethin hit me up
yea man...other phones might...this does not. i offered a tool for you to create and chop files. you dont want it...thats cool man. take care
Ok, good to know we're all on the same page. Thats just it, I don't want to make it all small, its kinda like it was in my example. For that reasoning... Sort of.
So I've ran into something of an odd problem recently. When I make a call (or receive one) I am extremely faint, to the point of the people not being able to understand what I say at all. I can hear people perfectly, however.
I've tried flashing a new ROM to see if that fixed anything. Two of them actually. No go. I haven't done extensive testing but if i use the speaker phone instead, I still sound like I'm "in a tunnel". I don't know if I sound just as bad or if it is just how a speaker phone normally sounds.
It also had not been in contact with water or dropped or anything. And it used to work fine. I honestly have no idea what's going on. I've tried out Android and Rhobuntu so maybe they did something? I have no idea.
Any suggestions? And yes, I've tried searching but it apparently isn't a big issue or I just can't get the keywords right.
EDIT: I used the voice recorder and, yes, I am faint as hell. It's ridiculous. Though, if I max up the volume and listen closely, I am pretty clear-sounding. If that helps any. I will continue to test.
EDIT 2: Turning off Auto Volume Control did not help any.
EDIT 3: Hard Reset didn't do anything.
EDIT 4: Is checking for when my contract expires for HD2.
if you've flashed to different roms, and also hard reset'd it, most likely its a hardware issue.
Flash to the shipped rom if you haven't done so, and if that doesn't help, call up t-mobile (or whoever your provider is) and get a warranty exchange.

BT doesn't work currently on the RHOD. Hopefully soon, just don't hold your breath.
This isn't meant to replace WinMo at this stage. Read, have fun with it, read some more... Pretty much every single major issue has been reported.
..........
I want to contribute to this thread, I am a longtime user of Android on the TP2, I donated to the project when we got sound working.
Basically, I am keeping my fingers crossed for bluetooth to be the next working feature. I can get by without the camera, and the power management, for me at least is fine because I can plug my phone in all the time.
However, my job requires me to be on a bluetooth headset a lot, especially while driving, so that is my only hangup for not using Android 24/7 .
I will reiterate.
This isn't meant to replace WinMo at this stage (maybe never). Don't expect it to be able to.

I have more issues with WinMo than I do with Android, it has replaced WinMo for me personally. The only time I run WinMo is if I need a hands free device.

When it's fixed? Until someone with the knowledge steps up and takes the time to troubleshoot it...
Problem is, devs are just like us - they want to work on things that interest them. So until BT is a priority for a dev, it won't get a lot of attention. Seems a lot of focus right now is on framebuffer/graphics performance and battery life (panel init).
There was a lot of work on the camera as well, not sure where that stands - someone was able to get a functional preview on their phone tho.
Basically if you don't have the knowledge to fix it, don't ask when it's going to be fixed. These things don't just happen... Someone has to work at it to get it up and running.
New XDAndroid user, first time poster,
I've been searching through all these threads like mad, and I've discovered that there is NOT, nor is there likely ever to be, a BT working build for Rhodium. I get that, and view the XDAndroid builds as a godsend anyway. Android kicks WinMo's ass, BT or no.
I've also found that there's a buggy headset workaround (that I haven't gotten working yet) but I plan to keep trying. My question is (and I keep searching the threads but I can't find it answered) - does the headset workaround let you use a wired headset to make phone calls? I mean can I both hear and speak through the headset?
Thanks!

Kinda OT for this thread, but try it out - let us know if it does work. I want to say it does, but I don't have a wired headset to test with.
I also never meant to give the impression that BT will never work. Just that it's not actively being worked on (to my knowledge) and won't really get the attention it deserves until a lot of the other work going on right now settles down. It's one of those things, devs work on what they want to work on... sure it sounds selfish but they're doing this for their own personal interest - not because someone else really wants the feature.
So that's the unfortunate truth. Until a dev takes an interest in fixing BT, it's not going to get fixed. Either you can gripe about it not working (which really isn't useful, and I'm not saying you are or you're the only one complaining....), or jump in and try to help!
Doesn't sound selfish at all. Devs needs to do what they're interested in doing. Devs donate their time and skills for fun and for the good of this community, not for some guy who complains that they didn't magically turn his winmo phone into a fully functional android. You want android, buy an android. Anyone who complains about the lack of BT doesn't get this.
Still can't get the damn headset working, but that's my issue. I'll keep reading and working on it.

if you want the headset to work, put "snd.force_headset=X" into the startup file and replace the x with a 1 for the usb headset and a 2 for the 3.5mm headset. After that, go to you phone in wm and call your voice mail with the headset in the phone. While still in the call, boot into android. It should work for music but i haven't tested calling. Unfortunately, if you do this, then the speaker wont work.

Thanks kdub! I've been trying this with 3.5mm headphones, but can't seem to get it working. What's weird is, every time I go back to the startup.txt the snd.force_headset=2 line is gone, and I know I put it within the quotes.
It may have something to do with the advanced settings I put in when I boot XDAndroid. The startup.txt also seems to be different depending on those features, so maybe it rewrites it or something?

If you use the startup utility, it will rebuild your startup.txt every single time. I think there's a checkbox somewheres in there to enable a manual startup.txt...

Ah, I suspected as much. Will report back if I get this thing working...
Success! Thanks everyone. By the way, by using this workaround and a cheap piece of hardware called a Bluetooth Adapter (Cardo BTA II), I was able to get Bluetooth on my Rhodium with XDAndroid running. Awesome!
Edited to clarify - the headset workaround DOES work both ways, so you get audio out and audio in.

Ha, I guess those that really need BT now have a workaround... even if it does involve an additional piece of hardware, haha. Seem actual BT is just around the corner (no promises )
Sounds good but on my rhod100_de i'm not able to activate bluetooth. When i hit it in the settings it only grays out, says "Activating..." for some time and than goes back to previous view (white text and not checked). So there seems to be a little more work for me . I think in about a half year we have a real good android running on our Devices and can kick winmos ass
@Bieka
Nobody said that BT is working. He used an "Klinke Bluetooth Adapter". ^^
My 6y/o daughter wanted something similar to an iPod Touch or a Nintendo DS and since she is already familiar with the use of EVOs as my wife and I both have one we decided that would be the better route. Since there are no game cartridges to lose and for the iCrap my overal disdain for Apple. I will be installing CM7 on her EVO instead of having to deal with Sense. I am looking for her to basically have a media player keeping wifi and bluetooth functionality.
I know I can delete the mms.apk and phone.apk to remove the apps or I could hide them using LauncherPro. And I can deactivate the radio on each startup by using *#*#INFO#*#*, but would prefer to permanently turn off the phone radio off so it doesn't have to be done on each reboot. I could use airplane mode but I really want something more permanent than that even as little fingers can disable that.
I plan to delete the icons for the phone radio once this is complete so it doesn't show no signal all the time.
Any tips on how to permanently turn the phone radio off?
I actually do this myself on my second evo. I use CM 6.1.2 and just use airplane mode. I took the rom apart and pulled out everything i could. Basically there is only 20 system apks that you must have, or the phone will not boot or let you install anything. I haven't find anything better then airplane mode, but it seems to work great.
Keep in mind this wont allow you to do anything but play games. If you want music or photos, you need to leave those apps in.
Actually here is the list:
CM\AccountAndSyncSettings.apk
CM\ADWLauncher.apk
CM\CMParts.apk
CM\Contacts.apk
CM\ContactsProvider.apk
CM\DefaultContainerService.apk
CM\DownloadProvider.apk
CM\DrmProvider.apk
CM\LatinIME.apk
CM\MediaProvider.apk
CM\PackageInstaller.apk
CM\Phone.apk
CM\Settings.apk
CM\SettingsProvider.apk
CM\Superuser.apk
CM\TelephonyProvider.apk
GAPPS\GoogleServicesFramework.apk
GAPPS\MarketUpdater.apk
GAPPS\SetupWizard.apk
GAPPS\Vending.apk
Yeah I am really looking for something more permanent than Airplane mode but if I must that is something I can do. I am sure there must be a way to disable the radio I just need to find it. Also, Airplane mode disables bluetooth and GPS both are functionalities I would prefer to retain.
Is that what you leave in or take out? If it is what you leave in are you not able to remove the phone.apk?
1) Samsung has a "Galaxy Player" coming out. Basically Galaxy Player is to Galaxy S what iPod Touch is to iPhone. I wouldn't recommend anything samsung though.
2) Just give her an unactivated phone. It's guaranteed not to call or text...and one with a bad esn will be cheeep. It can only connect to the internet through wifi though.
EDIT: With unactivated phone GPS and bluetooth will still work.

Those are the ones i leave in. Phone wont work as the phone isn't activated. I don't use bluetooth or GPS, wifi works fine with airplane though. I found deleting the phone.apk caused it to FC alot.
I've already picked up a used EVO on the cheap, it isn't activated but it has a good ESN though which is a plus. I know it can't make regular calls or do text messaging (it can still dial 911 though as all unactivated phones can). My reason for wanting to eliminate all of the phone functionality is to save battery as it won't search for service, currently it still connects to the towers and if out of service it still searches.
Again just wanting to make more permanent changes than just using Airplane mode or widgets that small fingers can easily change.

OIC. I have something you can try.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=887957
People say that it is just a placebo effect but I think it worked for my nook color. The battery life feels better. If something goes wrong you can just reflash cm and try again.
EDIT: On an evo you should probably delete mms.apk or sms.apk or whatever its called. I hope this works for you. If not you might need a custom rom built from the ground up to be non functional.
Well, gone and searched through the threads, and I'm not sure if people have been having the same issue or not but I made a quick video to detail this issues. I've had to restart the phone several times to stop this but it just comes back later and this sound interupts anything I do such as using the camera or listening to music.
Any help diagnosing this issue would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
That's really weird ! Never seen or better heard something like that. Are you on stock or custom ROM? Did this just start out of nothing or did you flash something before?
I would do a wipe and start from scratch.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
Yeah completely stock, not done anything at all to it.
Another weird thing about it, it only seems to happen when the phone is laid flat and happens more often when plugged into the computer but set to charge only.
try running some tests on the phone. there is a way to access the test features but i cant remember on which thread it was to access it. or may be try recalibrate features on the phone?
I figured out what the problem was, you'll probably laugh. It's NFC!
I had my phone resting ontop of a library book and they have those RFID tags in them so you can't steal them, so when I rested my phone ontop of the book, it would start making that noise, probably a "connected" sound.
Turned NFC off or moved my phone away from the book, problem gone!
