Hello, is it possible to format the Artemis (O2 XDA Orbit) to take everything off that I have installed? I assume I can format the card by loading it into a card reader and format it that way? But how about the phone. I have tried restoring to operater settings but it seemed to leave bits on there.
TIA
Joel
Do a search for "hard reset"

Pull the card out and pop it in a Normal PC Card reader and see if you can see the contents. For some reason PPC's will occasionally corrupt the formatting of the card to majke it unreadable to it but PC's sometimes can. If you can read it with a PC, then copy the contents off, reformat usign the PC and copy the contents back and try it in the PPC again.
ok will do that. but isnt that dangerous to lose data tat way? also, when i could read the memory card, the folders r there but the files r gone. possible virus?
i can find my memory card on the card reader. i tried formatting it but it gave me an error "Window is unable to complete the format". What is wrong?
Were you able to copy your info off of the card? How were you trying to format it?
Make sure that you DON'T have a window to the card open when trying to format.
HELP ME WITH ADVISE!
My problem is back again. My data at certain folder in the memory card is disappeared but still able to browse the memory card. Then i soft-reset a couple of times and the data comes back. It took the dopod 838 pro to read the memory card very long time b4 able to show the data on the card.
What should i do?
Check the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager. There are two DWORD values - PNPUnloadDelay and PNPWaitIODelay. If they are not set to 8196 - do that.
its 8196 as posted...
Looks to me like 2 possibilities:
Your SD Card is shot; or
Your phone has lost the plot.
If it reads OK on the PC card reader, the card is probably OK.
I'd try a hard reset of the phone first. (Make sure you have backed up everything first.)
Also, clean the SD slot as best you can to make sure there are no biscuit crumbs or old socks fallen into the hole.

Seems like some problems with this card. You didn't try another one?
Is there any need to remove the sim card and / or the storage card in order to hard reset my Artemis? Is there any risk of either becoming corrupted? I don't want to loose data on the storage card. Thanks
No problem.
Just for Hardreset, nothing matters. You can always do with SIM card and Storage card on it. Only for flashing new ROM you must take out SDHC storage card and SIM card too as you don't want to interrupt the flashing when a call comes.
OK, I've done the hard reset, and everything's fine except for one thing....
All of my text messages have gone. Now, I took great care to do a backup using HTC's Sprite Backup, I also copied all of the contents of the internal storage, and storage card 2, to my computer. I've done a full backup and restore using the Sprite Backup.
So, where does this Artemis store text messages, just in case I can still restore them from one of these backups? Thanks

I've only recently started using Sprite and made a couple of backups myself.
It restored all my texts. When you did your backup, were all the folders and sub folders ticked? All I can think of is perhaps a box in the sprite backup needed to be ticked to save text messages. I'm probably wrong and I'm sure sprite would have had everything auto ticked, at least, it was for me. Except for my storage card which was unticked. But the hard reset didn't affect my storage card and like yourself, I had already copied everything to a folder on my hard drive.
My SD card isn't detected after reboot.
The device is stuck in the splash screen when the SD card is inserted.
When I reboot without the SD card and wait a few seconds to inserted the SD card then the device is booting normal.
Also when I enter the 3 color then the SD card with a correct nbh file on the root isn't detect.
I format FAT32 the SD card a couple of times without result.
What could be the reason why the device is detect the SD card during booting?

If you haven't, try using gparted to format it, or format it to another fs (such as ext2) then reformat again using fat32... had a similar issue using a 128mb sd card (a really old one) and fixed it this way...

The same result with a new SD card.
I think it's a problem with the device, could this?
The problems started last week when I removed the SD card without unmounting.
With the next reboot it wasn't starting. After trying many times I found the workaround with booting without SD card in, but I don't like this situation.
if you can boot without sd, boot, then insert the card and look if it is detected.
in this case try to format it from android.

Question, does the device seem to detect ANYTHING when you insert the microsd ??
check the logs.. (keyboard, FN + left custome key, FN+Right one to get back)
Press the FN+LEFT, and insert the card, check for logs on the screen about it...

Sorry, didn't notice you had a Polaris
So, you can enter bootloader. Without a SD, you get the SPL version i think.
With the SD , what happens ?
Second, start droid, wait a few secs, insert sd.
Start terminal, and issue the command mount, what do you see?

also try a umount on it just to make sure its not just a damaged file system for whatever reason.
Hello,
Yesterday while downloading stuff, my phone suddenly sent me a notification that my SD card is broken. I can access everything in Recovery somehow. What I've tried :
- un-mounting & mounting again
- re-flashing
- factory reset
- format in recovery
And everything that I listed above failed. When I plug my card into PC it doesn't open. My whole window is not responding. I've tried mounting it on my older phones (Nokia 2730 & LG KP500), and only Nokia readed my card, but I couldn't do anything because it was password protected. Every possible password I had for my old SD card wasn't the right one. I've already googled but nothing mentioned before helped. When I formatted in recovery it only froze. When I switched ROMs to more "original" one, when I plugged my SD card it was automatically removed. Also my SD card is EMTEC 16 gb Class 4, and just in case I have my old 1 gb sd card lying around.
There is a possibility that your SD card is damaged..........one way of trying to cure it is to somehow try to make it work on your computer and Format it............or just try to format it on the phones that it works on

Going to try format on my old Nokia. But I was thinking, if I can get my SD card to work in Recovery, isn't there anyway to connect my phone to my PC and then try to format?
EDIT: Tried formatting on Nokia 2730 - it was failure. I couldn't because of the password.

In recovery, I should press mount usb right?
Yes
I did as you said and in Partition Wizard it showed me that the whole disk is used, file system was bad disk, and type was logical.
When I tried to format it said "Windows was unable to continue formating".

Hmmm. Did you copied all the contents from the previous micro sd card?
Try switching off your phone and then re-inserting the card and then switching it on again
Also, make sure that you've formatted properly your card.
Try and report..

Do this (in the given order):-
1) Switch off your phone. Take out your sd card (I'm talking about the new one. Forget the old one) and connect it to pc.
2) Backup your contents to pc.
3) Format your sd card (do not used quick format).
4) (ignore if your not rooted) go to recovery. Wipe and re flash your ROM.
5) (ignore if your rooted) go to bootloader (switch off your phone. Press and hold the volume down button and press the power button) and select factory reset (use volume keys to select and power button to execute).
6) Restore the contents of your sd card from pc. Switch off your phone and insert your card.
7) Restart.
This will definitely fix your problem if it's a software problem. In case of a hardware one, you'll have to send it to service centre.
Good luck:thumbup:
