Hi
I've spent the past few days geeking with my MDA, using the wealth of info from this forum.
I tried the JasJar rom (too much [email protected]), and ended up with:
- XDA CE Rom (1.13.48 )
- Radio From O2 Rom (1.04.02)
- Minimal Stuff from XDA/MDA ext roms
Goal was to install with the least [email protected] possible.
Step 1 - Flashing The XDA Exec Roms
First flash with O2 XDA Rom, using the info available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=32725
To sumarise the above...
- Get XDA rom from:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Universal/Shipped ROM/Xda_Exec_LaunchROM_v113139.exe
- Unpack the above using winrar.
- Plonk MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe in the folder where you unpacked the O2 rom (you can get this file from the ftp site, in the file: ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Universal/JASJAR_WWE_11353_137_10402.rar
You only need the one file!
- Disable activesync
- Put MDA in bootloader mode
- Connect to PC via USB, wait for hardware detection
- Run the file MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe from the O2 Rom directory on the PC
- Wait ;-)
- Once it restarts, do the usual CE setup, but do not let the extended rom install (simply soft reset at the prompt). If you have gotten past this stage, just hard reset again, and do the soft reset at the correct point!
Step 2 - Installing Progs From Extended Rom
- You'll now have an MDA with the XDA CE and Radio roms installed. It will need the appropriate patches installing from the XDA and MDA extended roms.
- To start, DL both extended roms:
XDA:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Universal/Extended ROMs/O2_XDA_Exec_Extended_ROM.zip
MDA:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Universal/Extended ROMs/mda_pro_eng_uk_extrom.zip
- For info on what each of these roms contain, look at the following threads:
MDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=32839
XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=32527
- You dont need all that ****e, I installed the following:
XDA:
Signed_SSD_BTUR_Patch_For_BT_Cannot_Initial.sa.CAB (bluetooth patch)
MDA:
CAB-Customization-TMUK-Universal-01-03-04Aug05.CAB (Adds MMS Server Settings)
CAB-Shorcut-TMOENU-08Aug05.CAB (Adds MMS to outlook + installs some shortcuts which you can remove later)
Enable_VT_RTPlugin_0727_2_signed.CAB (Enables Video Calling)
Signed_UNI_TMO_Connection_112100.CAB (Adds 'T-Mobile Internet' and 'T-Mobile Internet CS' for GPRS/3G connection)
Stage 3 - Cleanup
- The CAB CAB-Shorcut-TMOENU-08Aug05.CAB also installs a links. If you dont install the cab TMO_UK_UI_0727_signed.CAB then these will be dead llinks. The 'clearvue pdf' reader is a part of this cab (but if you install it, you'll get all the other sh1te it contains also. I was not interested in the PDF reader, so I just trashed the dead links.
- There are two dead links in Programs (they'll be obvous by their icons. I seem to remember them being 'clearvue PDF' and 'EmailWiz' In Explorer, browse to /windows/start menu/programs and trash them.
- Several shortcuts are installed in /windows/startup. Trash the elatepushservice (I dont know what this does, but I dont appear to be missing anything!), sddeamon (this causes the prompt 'view pics on card' when you insert a card containing jpgs from digicam etc). DONT trash 'poutlook' as otherwise the MMS folders wont appear in pocket outlook.
- Install Pocket Mechanic, and use it to ditch bad registy keys and cleanup the notification que.
- Could also install the ext rom unlocker & Total Commander so that you can shove only the cabs you want into the ext rom (or use the space for somet more useful) See Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33638 (Cheers Buzz!)
Registry Hacks
Goto: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Registry and pick some registry hacks to install. I did 'keys on today screen', 'disable start menu animation', 'change pocket ie', 'change fonts', 'change glyph cache' and 'change web hardware button' - to 'about:blank'
Goto:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33515 and make the suggested changes to the cache settings. I found that this did speed stuff up, but since its only cache settings, it will only speed up stuff the second time you try and do it!
Soft Reset
Install Your Progs
I installed
In Internal Mem
Resco Explorer (+regedit +ftp) to replace the MS sh1te
Resco Pic Viewer (to replace the MS App)
Pocket Informant (case the built in stuff is useless)
Resco Audio Recorder
Resco Pocket Radio
TCMP Media player
Net Remote (to control my HTPC)
SPB GPRS Monitor (from MDA CDROM)
Zimmermann Pocket Hosts (essential for VPN use)
Small menu (so I can ruddy well close open apps!)
IPConfig
Pocket Putty (SSH)
On CF Card
Total Commander (to get to the ext rom)
WiFiFoFum (for free email on the move ;-)
Pocket Mechanic
Concluding
Machine is now both fast, stable and not full of bloat-ware. Have 22MB free storage, and 27MB free program memory.
Main Issue left is the time that machine takes to respond to an incomming call when its switched off. On the original MDA rom, I had 4 rings before machine actually rang. Now I have about 2.5.
Time for sleep! I'll read through this tomorrow and correct any errors...
Nigel
One essential point.
According to the publisher, Pocket Mechanic should not be installed to the SD-card, especially if you intend using any of Pocket Mechanic's functions against the SD-card - could lead to corruption.
Personally, I've installed (and run) many of the applications you've listed as "Internal mem" direct to the SD-card without experiencing any problems.
Great bit of collating, does anyone know if the same can be performed on a M5000? Orange have a habit of needing things on there phone to work correctly. Also does anyone know what the following do on the M5000 ExtRom:
CAB-Customization-OrangeUK-Universal-01-05-15Aug05.CAB
CAB-Shortcut-Orange-19Aug05.CAB
cusTSK.exe
Enable_VT_RTPlugin_0727_2_signed.CAB

Signed_UNI_pIE_View_Set.sa.CAB
UI_Orange_UK_0727.cab
UNI_BrowserPerformance.sa.CAB

Would be a great help if someone did or could find out as I could then cherry pick what to install. I can take a guess at a few of them but I would like to be sure
Thanks
Hi
Aye, I have noticed oddities with pocket mechanic on SD card, but only when doing SD card benchmark, defrag etc.
I installed to internal mem cause its faster than SD card rather than any other reason, but I found issues with some resco apps running on the SD card also - specifically resco upgrade failed (could not install downloaded upgrade)

I can understand Pocket Mechanic objecting when you defrag/benchmark the medium it itself is running from.
Haven't had any problems with Resco, but haven't tried the update facility.

want to change dopod 900 (chinese rom) to o2 exec rom
is it feasible?can thr be any incompatibility?
where can I find JASJAR_WWE_11353_137_10402.rar ?
Hi,
I am gathering the files to perform the upgrade as detailed in this thread, however I can't seem to find JASJAR_WWE_11353_137_10402.rar.
Is there a better one to use now ? or should I keep searching for JASJAR_WWE_11353_137_10402.rar ?
In fact most of the links have moved ...

Can you dump your extended rom and post on the ftp site?
I've tried installing the french version, but the UI won't install. Most odd...
I can't find the ROMS
I keep getting :
File not found
You tried to access the address ftp://[email protected]/Universal/Extended ROMs/, which is currently unavailable. Please make sure that the Web address (URL) is correctly spelled and punctuated, then try reloading the page.
Can any one point me in the right direction ?
I have a T Mobile (UK) MDA PRO, the wifi connection lasts for about 3 seconds, then it keeps trying, but failing.
These are the ROMs I'm after :
XDA:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Universal/Extended ROMs/O2_XDA_Exec_Extended_ROM.zip
MDA:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Universal/Extended ROMs/mda_pro_eng_uk_extrom.zip
Thanks
Hi
Looks like someone has trashed the FTP site (again) all those roms have dissapeared. Hopefully they'll get restored... Did a backup exist??!
I'll search my laptop see if I have any of the missing roms
Nigel
Yup the FTP's missing practically every file...
I need the NO ID upgrade launcher file to flash my MDA Pro to XDA Exec please.
If anyone can upload it or send it me accross msn it'd be much appreciated

Just that wanted to ask what ppl have found to be best ways to install all your favourite apps/settings if u are changing roms offten?
I just started recently and have tested some 3 or 4 roms now, but already i find that doing all my customizing and app install is tedious, so i was looking for some method to make it easier.
* i have seen an app that could roll multiple cabs into one - that would make reinstalling all cabs at once after new rom easier, but i cant find the app any more. any ideas on this one?
* backing up rom differences after doing customizations - what app could handle that? propositions?
If we can work some method to do this fast and easy we would get a lot more beta testers hence a lot faster development cycle could be achieved. (=

There are no shortcuts my friend. Some apps are installed to main memory and some to storage card, when installng apps there is interaction involved, therefore no universal solution.
Look here - you can integrate the new sys folders (apps) by building your rom in the kitchen (klick it on). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317866
You can do a backup with spb backup. This way you can keep all installed programs and changes. You can restor your backup in different roms too but you have to be aware that this would mess up a few thins.
Tryed this http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/pocketpcinstallationcreator.shtml one out - managet to create install with multiple cab files - so far so good.
But when i installed this merged install on my wm5 emulator it ended up adding links to cab files in programms folder - so much for instalation - useless.
Gues the search goes on.
Make your own extended rom with all your cabs in, this will do the trick. Its quite easy - its not like cooking a rom - i could do a simple tutorial if people wish - it only requires 2 apps
Meschle - yes, please, a tutorial for extrom making would be good, as i am still a bit green to start cooking roms - extrom would be nice way to start i suppose.

That is a super solution! I would love it!
Hey guys one downside to ext rom way - when installing cabs it does not give you option where to install (main memory or storage card) so everything installs to main memory.
This is ok for the programs you normally install there and registry entries. You can make a new cab that installs directly to storage card but that is a different story
OK, now i am a bit confused. As i understand there is a ROM memory on Artemis(128MB) which is divided in multiple areas - IPL1, IPL2, SPL, Splash, Radio, OS, ExtRom.
This ROM memory is writable by way of flashing. There is also storage area(not microSD) in device and operative memory.
So, as i unterstand it, putting apps in ExtROM is a pure saving, cus ur storage memory is not wasted.
Do i understand it correctly?
With the artemis rom, if you omit extended rom in your nbh building you get more storage memory (an addition of roughly the size of the omited ext rom) Likewize if you include extended rom then you loose equivalent memory from storage - so there is no advantage to having apps (i.e executables) in extended rom but for convenience sake to have cabs and settings can be useful. I suggest keeping extended rom small (2mb) so you dont loose much storage space.
Extended rom tutorial added here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327203
well maybe not 10 minutes then

For people who do not have an extended ROM - would'nt it be similar if they kept all the Cabs in 2577 Folder in the Storage Card with Autoexec and config files to execute them sequentially? I remember doing something like this when I was using the XDA IIs - but then now -
In my case, I rarely need to install anything except TomTom and Fullscreenkeyboard from SPB. The rest - I peek into the Cab using WinCE Cab Manager, then export the contents and now have made one big Cab (appx 4MB in size) with all my registry entries, tweaks, executables, shortcuts and copying relevant files into directories.
That way I execute only three cabs after a Hard reset and moreorless everyting is in place.
Yes dev - i used to have that in my orange spv - an autorun.exe in \2577 folder - last time i tried didnt work as i wanted - but i agree worth looking into.
With the ext_rom - the purpose was to add one for those that dont have.
Ok, was trying a quite a few roms that i had today, extracted em, but did not get the extrom.nb )=
Tried to open os.nb with winimage, but it kept saying something about wrong fat etc.
Is the extrom.nb different form os.nb and other *.nb? Why cant winImage open other nb files? Or is there something else i am missing?
Also, tiried SKtracker(didnt find any free app) demo - made snapshots before and after installing apps, then tried to export relevant registery subtrees.
That brings me to that there is no import functionality in phm regedit, but i found other free regedit app called TRE which can import/export edit etc.
Maybe this TRE tool is worth including in roms, if any cookers are reading.
Any better way to hack registery?

I mentioned this on another thread, but I discovered that FdcSoft's understated Task Manager v2.8 has a supperb regedit built in. It does everything that PHM Regedit does, but it can export and import really easily, just like Windows regedit. As meschle pointed out, PHM's is faster, but I still use the bloated Task Manager just because its regedit; and it also has lots of other stuff that comes handy on occasion.
Oh, great! So many stuff to fiddle with in meschle's PremiumPlus rom that I must have missed this one.

you can always just turn M2D off
it will still have the program files obviously, but it wont be activated so it will free up some RAM.
Just go to settings -> Today -> Items and deactivate TouchFlo and enable Windows Default

i have 23016 nbh with m2d
i use hypercore to dump rom
after ddumping which files should be rmoved or tell me ur way of editing this nbh file
I think you cannot edit the dumped rom, because its protected, so it doesnt make packages what you can remove. These nbhs doesnt include the dsm files, because the storage (and program???) memory. You can make packages only by dsm files.
I never remake others' rom because these inculde what i dont need and it doesnt include what i need. - So with lot of learn you can make your own customized, ported rom. (ervius visual kitchen can help you). I learnt everything by myself, over google, just need some time (maybe some sleepless day ).
In one word: don't dump the nbh files, because you cannot You have to port a xip/sys and if you want, modify rgus, provxmls, muis, initflashfiles and others to make it comfortable.
Sorry for my English.
My rom is coming soon
Dear all,
It is to my great pleasure to introduce this cab to you guys which will really boost the manila 2.5 performance and the overall performance of their blackstone. I dont know if it is appropriate to post the cab here without the author's consent or if i shouldnt even post something unrelated to rom development here but the cab is really amazing and it certainly made me enjoy my rom on my blackstone a lot more.
Here is the link to the official thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=658692
I hope that you guys can improve your blackstone experience with this cab!
Will test this later and report back (currently downloading new rom)
MOD EDIT - Moved to apps forum as this is basically a tweak app
EDIT - Tried cab and performance of device improved
I think that this thread should be kept in the rom development thread. leaving it in the theme and application thread does not seem to give it enough exposure and people might not know about it
when i install this cab and reboot my storage card is not recognized anymore, can someone help please?
Yes i already wrote about this problem this heppand to some peoples because the CAB i do include over 100 diferent regs including regs for the SD card to read and write faster data so i can remove the regs for the SD card and make you separate cab just without the SD card regs. But i can do it when i have time Write me what ROM u use to know in the future about this problem.
About the Magic Tweak.. 1st made it for personal use because when i flash a new ROM im sick to go with Reg editor and write all the regs or export them one by one so the idea is just when you flash a new rom just install the cab and all is done, also there already have many apps doing regs for example HD tool and Advanced config and many more but some of the regs that this Magic tweak include cannot be changet via any of this apps just you need to do it with Reg editor and to know what to edit exactly this is the reason why i think that Magic Tweak is very usefull and easy to use and i don`t know why you found it right now its avalible from long time
Original Thread Updated is avalible now version without SD card regs just try and report
Thanks

Does this work on WM 6.1 with stock ROM?
i have a ...touch hd with 6.1 stock rom..
and have been using tsalta.. Magic Tweaks v1.4 for a couple of months !!
(i have had no problems with my device/phone , regarding the relevant registry tweaks, he uses )
e.g.
the registry ringtone delay fix,i found worked for me ...(re. registry setting .. ..av0pr....)
just remember ,even so that every now and again ,you have to check your registry because i found that some how ? ( my phone ) reset registry back to ...av0pw3r..i then have to mannualy edit it to ..av0pr..
i found with this edit, my ringtime came down from 3 /4, full rings to 1 or 2,
i believe it is a " must" for your device.
.so i say yes it does work on stock 6.1 .(.for me )!!!!
good luck
willcor
I've just tried it, and device's performance slightly improved.
Good work.
tested and it really seams to improve the performance! great job no problems.
i have wm6.1 and standard rom. Is your tweak compatible with this? Could you also confirm how to untinstall if necessary

Write in the Original Thread of the TWEAK but anyway will answer you here this Tweaks for in ALL WM and also they are just regs so If you want to remove them after installation just Uninstall them and Soft Reset your device
Thats all
THey cannot Damage your Device they only can IMPROVE it

Great stuff. I'll defintiely give it a go. Thank you.
Just installed the 1.4 cab file. It definitely works on my WM6.1. Most noticeably my TF3D seems faster. Faster scrolling and much better key board sensitivity. This is just my impression after a few minutes. Will play with the phone for longer and report any more benefits.
Great work. Thank you.
Hi all,
Documentstab in different languages, (Manila Document Browser v2.5.20174010.0)
For now I've created the cab in WWE/GER/NLD/SPA.
All those cabs are tested on:
Laurentius26 Platinum Series v3.7 23148 [Full rotation] ~WWE|GER|NLD|SPA~
and the Dutch cab is also tested on the stock rom, both rom's don't have any problems with installing the cabs.
I only have a HD2,so I can only confirm that they are working on the HD2.
But if you've got guts and you tested this cab on another device, just let me know it's working I add them to my list.
Be aware I don't take any responsebility if something goes wrong but I can always trying to help.
IMPORTANT
BEFORE INSTALLING THE CAB, JUST DELETE THE FOLDER "Application Data" ON YOUR STORAGE CARD OTHERWISE THE DOCUMENTS ON YOUR STORAGE CARD CAN'T BE FOUND.

All the cab's can be found here in Laurentius26_CabCorner thanks to Laurentius26
To uninstall the Documents tab just install this cab.
