WM5 upgrade wiki help? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

In the WM5 upgrade wiki:
Copy the nk.nbf file to folder that match ur device (PH20B/PH20B1)

Where is this folder? Do you create it? and if so, where?
Sorry if this seems a bit noobish, but I'm trying to do this on a Vodafone v1620 so it's quite an interesting experience for a first timer, anything else I should know before I start that isn't in the wiki about this particular model (PH20B2)? Thanks in advance.

Original WM6

Hi
I've been trying different roms on my p3300 and I installed today again the original wm6. I noticed that after installing the basic OS it started installing other files. Is that the "External Rom"? Is there any way to avoid it or even better is there any rom with just the basic OS?
Thanx

With WM5 I was doing soft-reset before automatic installation of "extra" software.
Thanx I did that and nothing else was installed. Besides Tom Tom not being installed I have'n noticed any other difference and it seems to be working a little faster.
Does anyone know how I can uninstall the HTCHomeplug that comes with wm6 cause I always deactivate it but I'd rather remove it completely and free some valuable space
And is there any way I can extract from the rom the cabs of the extra programs being installed, so I can check firsthand if something should be installed or not?
Sorry for all the questions
Thanx in advance

Use Total Commander and navigate to Extended_ROM (just write it in as path). You'll find cabs there.
Thanx a lot!
The cab files that I extracted are the following:
MP_CVSDcpl_20060718.cab
PP_AKv30-DefaultPage_ALL.CAB
PP_AKv33-DefaultPage_WWE-0409.CAB
PT_BKL.CAB
USSD_Service_4.2.1.CAB
MP_TT6_Voice05_WWE.cab
MP_ttn_8320.cab
Besides the last two that are for tom tom does anyone know what the rest are for...
Thanx

Unlocking Hermes Extended_ROM with WM6

I'm trying to unlock the Ext.Rom but with no Luck. I know that the first suggestions will be to use the search funtion but I have done that. There are several Registry hacks and programs but none of them work. They only make it visible but write protection is still on so I can't change to contents.
I'm using the Hermes with an orginal German T-Mobile WM6 Rom.
Any suggestions?
Thankful for any help
Cheers

Did you take a look at the Wiki?
Did you soft reset after applying the tweak?
Eran
Hi Jocool,
yes to both questions. I've spent about 8 hours trying different solutions and programms with no success.

is it SuperCID?

Seems NO SuperCID.

if I remember correctly it must be SuperCID to work.
Yep it ACTUALLY needs to be SuperCID i believe from WM6 onwards to have read/write access to the ext_rom. The tweak i believe only worked for everybody in WM5.
Use pof's unlocker to make it SuperCID if you really want access.

I did read the wiki. It has links for WM6 not cooked WM5. Anyone who can help? Why not just cook WM5 instead of WM6?

Mybe you did not read well, in the Wiky there is a link called: Available Original Shipped ROM Versions on the universals section, so you click there and you will find at least 7 original wm5 ROM´s
(Remember that there is no wm6 or wm6.1 developed in original by manufacters for our uni´s or I´m mistaken masters?)
Any way good luck
So I see, I was pertaining to cooked WM5. But I think, I havent mentioned it earlier. Thanks for replying in my queries. I am now trying rdosti's Shivam310.

Need help with my Toshiba Portege G810...

Hi,
I bought this phone in Taiwan without thinking too much of it. The pre-installed Windows Mobile 6.1 is in Chinese - that's fine. But I cannot believe that it doesn't let me change it to an English system...! My friend's HTC Touch lets him do that. How's that possible? I thought changing language would be one of the fundamental functions?
Anyway, does anyone know if I can ever change my Windows from Chinese to English? And how I would do it, if there were ways of doing it?
Thanks...!
Can anyone help...?
the language is located in the rom and flashing it with an english rom should make it english
dont know anything about flashing toshibas myself though
If you dump the rom, probably one of the talented people that frequent xda-developers could help you.

what do you mean by "dumping" the rom...?
i guess the portege g810 is just not popular enough for people to develop anything for it... maybe i just need to wait...
From the wiki: "The ROM holds the Operating system and other components such as the bluetooth and wifi stacks. The ROM is accompanied by the Radio, Ext_ROM, SPL and IPL."
Basically if you dump the ROM from your device, the language files can be changed, and then you could re-flash the modified ROM to your device. I'm not sure how to do all of that, but there are many people here that do know. I believe the first step would be to dump the ROM from your device. Please see the following thread:

thanx! one more question - this thread you posted is for Kaiser - does it also apply to Portege? so would it be ok for me to flash my portege with HTC/Kaiser roms?

NO!!! That would ruin your device. I posted a link to that thread because it contained instruction for dumping a ROM. You can only flash your Portege G810 with Portege G810 ROMS. That's why you'd have to dump the ROM from your own device, modify it, and then flash it back to your device

Hi. First you must try to dump the ROM and upload it somewhere (share it with XDA. I guess some of the masters are looking for the G810 rom).
Try to follow the steps described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334680
or
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=238945
For translating the rom to another language i read somewhere here a post that help you throug. I'll try to find it later on.
Sorry for may bad english. I'm a little rusty!

anyone knows how we can flash the English ROM over the Chinese version? I tried it but the update software checks the language and stopped me moving forward.
Any method to flash it from the SD card? I have got the flash.bin from the EXE file downloaded at the official site.

As far as i know,It's Chinese rom with English Keyboard...
1.Download the DSUU that can be flash to your G810.
2.Download the DSUU that u want to flash to your G810.
3.During run DSUU,go to \windows\temp on your PC,grab FLASH.BIN of each DSUU.
4.use Ultraedit open FLASH.BIN in hex mode, change the first line of the file from 2. to the same
as FLASH.BIN from 1.
5.you are now ready to flash your G810,during running DSUU in 1. after it extract stuffs to \windows\temp
just copy modified FLASH.BIN overwrite it.
6.wait until everything complete, Done!
i'm now waiting for FLASH.BIN from English ROM...Anyone Could help would be appreciate.

Best is you get c_setag to upload the Raw I2 ROM to file sharing site such as rapidshare/ megaupload/ etc. and post the link here. I see that he has downloaded the ROM!
I am sure the people in this forum will be able to make a full bootable rom with the files!
Where's this rom from? I mean what's the language?

Here's the link for the tools: http://www.xs4all.nl/~itsme/projects/xda/tools.html (download the file itsutilsbin-20080923.zip)!
I'm not sure if you know how to do it, so here's a link with instructions from The Solutor: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2237280&postcount=10
Don't forget to send also these two files: boot.hv and boot.rgu (look for them in the windows folder of your device).

The i2 ROM is HERE: http://www.megaupload.com/nl/?d=DCD30QAA
It is a Ducth ROM... so someone have to translate it...
Is it eboot+phone+pda?
Hope the language can be changed in regional settings.
Have you tried it?
well is it wm6.1? we need to edit this rom coz as far as i know it comes totally in dutch language. and also i wonder is it eboot+phone?
According to the poster on the dutch website it is:
i780 I2 PDA NL
i780 J2 Phone
i780 J2 Eboot
It is a DUTCH I2 version, i converted it myself.
So there are no english functions, i do not have the knowledge or time to convert this rom to English.

i think it is not necessary I can't find any difference between i1 and i2; maybe if bizbee comes...
Yeah I have hope about bizbee it's just a matter of time if they are really serious about it.
The second question is about the worldwide update I mean qwertz/azerty keyboard versions. From what I understant WM is MUI now. So it shouldn't be very difficult for Samsung to get it multilanguage plus a keyboard map shouldn't be any challenge.
I think the i780 has been avalaible for very long now and it's really one of the best wm device. The build quality is top notch compared to htc. But the software lacks. I mean the wm6 release I had was far from bug free and the gps locked to tomtom. Then the optical mouse can be frustrating but it's no match when it come to one hand usability.
anyone success running tomtom 7 on the i780 with the I2 pda and J2 phone rom?
The internal gps works fine with igo8 like before, tomtom7 also recognizes the internal gps but doesn't get a fix. Any real solutions for this issue? (please no gps proxy or any alike) I read that some people are able to run tomtom7 out of the box with their new firmware.
Google maps has also issues using the internal gps.
