I have installed Pocket Informant 2007 and set it as my PIM, however when I do a soft rest or turn off the phone the contacts page opens before I can type in my SIM card pin code, so I have to close PI Contacts to get at the keypad. This is only a minor irritation, but an irritation all the same, has anyone else come across this and how do I stop it?
Another thing that I would like to sort out is transferring my SIM contact numbers to my PI Contact list. I have numbers on the card that I don't have in the sync-able contacts and I want to update this list without having to retype all the numbers. Any ideas?

Since upgrading to Windows Mobile 6 Pro Black Edition 3.0.1, I've had a few problems that I wonder if you guys can help me resolve.
1) All of my contacts were erased and they don't seem to have been being backed up when I was synchronising...I don't imagine there's much I can do there.
2) When I add a new contact now, I can choose Live contact or Outlook contact, however no matter which I do, when I view my text messages, the contact name isn't displayed in the list of my current messages, only the number, I can only see the name of the contact when I actually open the message itself.
3) Active sync wont sync with my phone, it will copy PC files > Phone, but not Phone > PC.
4) How do I sort my contacts in to groups - for example emails, mobile numbers, home numbers etc? I can't figure this out.
I'm new to this lark, so laymans terms would be great!
Thanks.
Doesnt sound like its anything to do with the rom - more to do with your setup.
Get activesync working and all your outlook/server contacts will be syncd.
When you add a new outlook contact, make sure you put the international number format and ensure the mobile number is in the mobile number field. It will then show senders name on received texts.
some of my contacs have multiple mobile numbers, i.e. work, private, car mobile.....so, how can i manage them since wm6 doesn't allow me more than one mobile number for every contact. i know thta i can use inesoft address book, but using this software, once i have choosen my contact,i cannot directly send an sms to the contact, or at least i haven't understood how to.
have you got any suggestion for me.....i'm really bored with this issue, my nokia n70, symbian 3rd edition can handle multiple numbers for avery contact.....
maybe there's no answer to my question?
you cant
heck you cant even do that in Microsoft Outlook
You'll have to make multiple contacts for a single person
John 1
John 2
for each mobile number
Anyway, you'd have to manually select which mobile number to send a SMS to That'd be faster to have multiple contacts.
Otherwise, if it's just for voice call, then just put anything (house, work, etc), doesnt matter.
Try out pocket informant 8, in the contact list it will show multiple chooses, maybe it will fit your need, they have trial version so you can take it for a test spin for free .
It will take some time to get use to but the one handed operation is great to look up contacts and click to dial, blows the contact list in WM5/6 out of the water.
I have used several versions of this, very stable and works great and it will sync with outlook.

Hmmm you cant save multiple entries for the same name in SIM no matter what phone you use.
In wm all you do is create a new contact, and when you do that create the contact as outlook contact...that way you can add multiple number, email, address, etc etc...
I know how you feel; it's a pain to have several mobile numbers for one contact when you want to SMS (voice dialling is fine)
Here is how it can work while maintaining only one contact in Outlook:
- Enter additional mobile numbers in Outlook under pager, car, other (or whatever you fancy)
- When you want to create a new SMS, do NOT start typing the name directly to get auto completion, click the To: field instead (or go through Menu -> Add Recipient)
- This brings up your contact list, and you can now choose your contact and select any of his/hers numbers to send the SMS to..
Hope this helps
I'm not sure what you're aiming for exactly. WM6 has a lot of options for multiple mobile numbers, and AFAIK, Symbian S60 v3 has fewer options, at least on my N73 ME it does.
you can do this by adding the number under another option e.g. home, create new text then select contact through the contacts option rather than typing their name in the to box, you'll get the option then to choose either phone number or email address.
never tried before, i'll test it, thx for your suggestion
it is a real silly problem, in PC outlook you can add private fields, but you will not be able to synchronize it with your ppc. hope we can find a good real solution for this.
Hi,
I just got a Desire and have it connected to work exchange server via activesync. All my contacts imported OK and I can click on a contact and call them via the phone app. If I decide to long press and 'view contact', then 'edit contact', choose the exchange activesync one, no phone numbers are shown at all. I just have 'mobile' with no number. I enter a number there, click save, go back, and it's still not there. I've tried adding additional numbers like home, works, etc as well, but they are never shown.
Is this a bug or an I doing somthing stupid?
Thanks,
Paul
Spoke to htc support about this. The chap was most helpful, but we didn't find a solution. In the end I deleted the axchange account and added it back in, and voila! All the same contacts but with phone numbers this time. No idea why they didn't come across before...
Hi, if i go into people all my contact are there how they should be but if i go in to messages & search all my contacts are duplicated, its a right pain when its showing 2 of everyone. When i go to people & view, only my google contacts have a green tick by them, even if i just tick sim contacts its still the same. The only way around it for me is to delete all my phone contacts & just use the sim ones but id rather use google as i can add photo's to the contacts.
is there a way around this ?
Are you sure its duplication and not simply showing you each number you have for a contact. E.g. you have say dad in your contacts and have stored his home, mobile and email address. This example would list dad 3 times in messaging but each would have a different number or address.
If this isn't it I did find my contacts got messy and deleted everything from phone and sim and now store and maintain my contact in gmail ONLY.

Click to collapse
Yeh they are definitely duplicated, i like to keep my contacts as simple as possible i dont want e mail addresses or anything on there just my contacts. it looks like this.
(photo) other: allan 0187 ******
(sim) phone numbers: allan 0187 ******
(photo) other: david 0163 ******
(sim) phone numbers: david 0163 ******
its showing the sim even though ive not got it ticked in the view option. I know i could delete the sim contacts & it would look ok but thats not something i want to do as the battery is not the best on the desire & with the contacts on the sim ive always got that option to use someones else's phone in an emergency
Ah I understand what you mean. Must be a software bug then perhaps. All I can suggest is to get a payg sim store all your contacts to it and shove it under the back cover then just use google contacts only. Sorry I cant be of more help.
