Hi, I noticed in my registry that in HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\PHONE\
there is a Dword value named "bLargeBtnLayout" and when you enable it, you get the screen shot below, but there are no button images, also it appears the registry values for the text in the buttons might be missing also, but the button images could be labeled themselves.
You lose the speeddial/callhistory /vtalk/talk buttons, but those are accessible via hardware, and smartdialing still works.
Im not displeased with my current dialer, I guess Im just more curious than anything, I searched the forum and google for any info already about this, but no luck, does anyone else know anymore about this, or possibly how to figure out what the missing image names are, I dunno if digging around in the phcanhtc.dll or the phone.dll might have some clues or not, I dont have a decent editor handy.
Edit, after giving it a bit more thought, I doubt it has anything to do with .dll files, its all likely registry related, it is possible by installing a dialer skin, that I broke this from working, but I doubt it cause I would think there would have to be two oem dialer button sets in the ROM, which none have had, if I remember right.

if your looking for larger buttons try out the dialer from the Touch.

I installed it recently and love it, I can finally dial with my big clumsy fingers!
have you tried
Jimm98y_vista_dialer, it has the large buttons and i've used it with all ROMs I've tried (custel, black, schaps) reliably. Here's a screenshot (via Pocket Controller-Pro):
PS: The touch dialer looks awesome, gotta try that one now!
well, I tried the Touch dialer...
nope, I definitely like Jimm98y's Dialer better. Reminds me of BMW's dialpads.

Does it support the contact's picture (most of my outlook contacts have a picture) and smartdialing?

Where is the PIC of this ?
I personally use PaulyA's Dialer Skins, the Wave II and A24 Black are my favorites. I don't like the smartdialer and so use Smartskey. My right DPAD brings up my Outlook Contacts, up is Speed Dial and down is Recent Calls.
Alot of folks here also like Zombienexus's skins.
The new Trinity dialer skin on JJ's ROM's is nice but I really like the one handed action of smartskey and need to spend time to make it work per my needs.

I believe it's in post no 3.
Just remember that although the skins are sweet, with Pauly's you will loose smartdialer. Personally, since my contacts list is huge, if I ever need to call someone or a restaurant which I obviously don't call often, well, you really feel not having a smartdial.
I tried installing Jimm98y_vista_dialer.CAB (the dialer from Post #4) and when I type in the phone number, the bottom half of the numbers go black after entering 6 numbers or more. Does that happen to anyone else? I think its because it tries to show a box in the bottom left corner telling you which contacts have the number you are entering in.. if anyone understands what I'm saying. But this box is black so it covers up the numbers. Any fix for this? I love this dialer otherwise.

Hi guys, does anybody know how to change the dialer skin on our artemis?
I tried to look around the forums but I didn't find anything specific for our device... can I use the same procedure used for other devices?
I mean to install eten dialer skin etc.....
Any suggestion is welcomed!!!
One last (and probably stupid) question: with a hard reset I will have back my original dialer in any case is it?
Thanks to everybody
Shift.
Hey shift,
yes, you can use any Dialer written for Windows Mobile 5, just install it, Soft-Reset and of you go
Hard-Reset will indeed replace your phone-dialer with the default one, delivered by your carrier. You can also most likely delete your dialer Skin with the "delete Programs" command in your Pocket PC's Settings.

Hi Shift,
have look here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=263579&highlight=eten+dialer
I have installed the first blue skin on my french artemis and it works well. I prefer the Eten style dialer because the keys are bigger than the standard one and it's more convenient for a "one hand" use.

hi guys, look these awesome phone skins:
http://www.paulya.com/dialerskins.htm
Yeah, that was the third link i wanted to publish, but i misplaced the URL so i couldn't post it. Glad you found it too ^^ I have "Lime" installed, very nice. "Blissed" is also really cool, but the white font of the dialer Text is sometimes hard to read. But great work!
Do you have any problems skinning the call history icons? I just can't get them to change from either the default windows blue ones or perhaps they are an O2 Skin, whatever, I can't get rid of them. HELP!
hi,
i have installed a new dialer skin in my p3300, but i have a problem:
the phone dialer is showed fine, but the calls history and speed dialer
is showed with the default skin.
i have searched at the windows directory and the outgoining, in and missed calls icon as the newly skin aspect.
i have searched at all windows directories and i'm not capable to find the default icons...
is posible that the old missed, in and out call icons are in a dll ??
help me please,.....
thank's
Bartito: same problem here, it seems that on HTC P3300 there is some unique way to display call history...
ok, thanks

Guys,
There seems to be an issue with installing Dialer skins such as http://www.zombienexus.net/portal/GL_Display.asp?SEC=3&EntryID=513). At the moment I seem to have the default dialpad update from PocketCM but cannot override it with any updated skin such as below. Anyone know of a way around this?
Basically, I have narrowed the problem to the fact the dialer looks like this even after adding the zombienexus skin according to the instructions:

PocketCM Skin vs Dialpad Skin
Thunderhawk,
Please correct me if I am wrong, but are you trying to change the look of the dialpad within PocketCM?
If so there are themes out there for that program by gturner or Igolio and maybe a couple other. You can find them in the PocketCM thread by Tene.. But you can not take a seperate dialpad and replace a themed dialpad within the PocketCM folder. Your only option would be to create your own theme or contact one of the theme creators and see if the they would mod one for you.
If you are trying to install a seperate dialpad mutually exclusive to PocketCM and it is not taking, make sure and check in your add/remove programs under settings to make sure that you don't have more than one installed. If there is, remove them all and do a soft reset. Then install the one you want and again do a soft reset. Press your phone button and you should see it.
If I have explained something you already know or have tried I am sorry. If I do not understand your problem clearly please let me know.
Can I have my candy now???

I have already said that PM to install new dialer remove it was essential to the previous one, but in principle this is not what he is looking for.
To be clear, if your desire is to replace the skin of a dialer existing copy of this pocketCM skin style, the answer is clear:
NOT POSSIBLE, no existing dialer not bear keys on the final image, it will not have to create it from scratch, or that it was to integrate as pocketCM in, but it already exists in that form in skin available on the site under the name of skin Iphone.
So promise a ghost dialer skin, it's not very nice !!!!!

It would be cool to have something like that.
For sure, notice it's using the efficient built in dialer and it has a 3G video call button.
the advantages:
1. built in fast dialer with more call history(and a smarter search).
2. big buttons for easy use.
3. saves sapce and memory because it's not using the smartdialing mechanism.
I'd love to get my hands on it.

All the above features sound and look awesome. I'd love to get a version of the TouchFlo that isn't the "demo" I got several months ago. This one looks ok, but I can't make some changes, etc. And the java definately seems to slow it down.
I'd LOVE to get a touch cruise if and when they are available in the US.
I know it is a matter of time, but for how long?. Do u find it strange that there is any cooker has the desire to add it to his new ROM.

As far as I am concerned, heck with VIDEO Dial how about a call history button??

Err....the button above 1 is the call history button.
The video dial button is the main reason why most people want it, otherwise they could just get the Touch dialpad, as far as I am concerned

Be warned if you try that package, you won't have a fully working dialer, and your device may hard-reset or lockup on its own.
I had to reflash an OEM rom to get my device fully functional again after using it. I'd suggest removing that link.
Do somebody have a working one?
Ok, so I feel like I'm missing something or just unable to find it...
It seems that the feature which allowed the user to "hide" contacts without numbers is flat out gone. I've checked everywhere I could think of, and found nothing.
Anyone have any idea where it went, or why they would get rid off such a feature? Very much so lame...

I think it is gone due to it being deprecated, in a way. Google eliminated a lot of features that they feel might overly complicate things and this was one of them.
If contacts without number are hidden, then users added new contacts, instead of existing previous one that simply missed the phone number. This leads to better contact management and less duplicate contacts in a world where phone number is only part of the whole range of methods of contacting a person.

That's terrible justification, if that's the case...
This has led to far worse contact management, for me, due to Google's innate ability to deem everyone I've ever emailed a 'contact', with no easy way of pruning...
It's still there (in a way)...
1. Open up the Phone application
2. Go to the last tab (the one that looks like an icon for a person)
3. You should see your starred contacts at the top, with their 'magazine layout' pictures.
4. Scroll down. You will see all your contacts that have phone numbers under the heading 'All contacts with phone numbers'

Thanks. I guess it's better than nothing. I still prefer how it used to be, though...
Since "Contacts" has become "People" I agree that this feature makes not much sense in the people app.
Good to know that they put it in the dialer where it belongs. In the dialer I only want to see people I can actually call. I think this is one of those changes that as an "old user" you might need to get used to but is just more useful and accessible for people new to Android.
I have found a caveat with this however, when having Google+ enabled and logged in.
A few (rather stupid people) have entered a text string into the telephone number field of their Google+ profile, which results in an entry in this list where there shouldn't be. Example below:

Changes the lockscreen Pin Input button color. None of the registry seems to change that keyboard/dialer button color. Maybe there's something in the 00##_ThemeResources.xaml files (# = Number value, one for each accent color).
Ive gone through the entire theme section in the registry and have come to same conclusion. Im trying to get rid of the default grey in the dialer and keyboard but cant figure out how to change this. Would love if somebody could find this!

"system foreground"... Not seeing this in the registry. It does seem strange to me that this is not an option like every other color option in the registry. I seem to recall doing this (changing the keyboard color) back when I was running Nodo but have forgotten how to do it. Would love it anyone could figure this out.
Thank you for your answer. It seems very difficult
Anyone have any ideas yet? Seems like a nice customization option that we ought to figure out. Ive exhausted my abilities as a hacker(very limited)
The keys on the keypad are image files (png) ive searched the directory in WPDM but not managed to find them. The Radio Buttons, Sliders, Check Boxes, Keypad Keys etc. are all png's. Only the background colours can be edited through the registry, I imagine if we find the png files then we can use photoshop to customize them..
This I think will be the keypad keys (though i may be wrong) - "ButtonBackground"="res://UIXMobile!ui.light.button.background.png"
I am not a developer or hacker, I have just found this out by playing around with my devices (and sometimes breaking them so be careful)
