WM5 ROM with WM6 IE and Outlook? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

How straightforward would this be? I'm told that some WM5 devices (such as Athena) have the same version of IE as found in WM6. Would an Athena IE cab just work? Or the IE cab from WM6? I guess Outlook is a bigger problem.

If you can use PIE, Office Mobile, and Pocket Outlook used on WM6 on WM5. I wouldn't use WM6 anymore. Is this possible?

Edit: Double post

Opera for BA

Does anybody know how to run Opera on XDA machines like I-Mate PDA2K?
Thank you in advance for any information.
Eugene.
It's not made for PPC, only SmartPhones
Perhaps you can try Minimo: http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/dougt/archives/008595.html

 No ****
screenshot??? 8)
And please provide the cab file you used to install.
This should in no way be possible as SmartPhone and PocketPc are two wery different platforms.
Mninimo don't run, searching for other solution...
Unfortunately, Mininmo doesn't run on PDA2K. Does anybody here don't interesting in working Opera on our devices?
opera for smartphone works on my xda2 with wm5.0 due to the fact that ms is joining requirements of wm for smartphones and wm for ppc's (in order to express it in very simple words). under wm5.0 smartphone and ppc edition all programs should work on both platforms. usually the installer of a program detects the os where it is installed and obviously the smartphone installer accepts wm5.0
regards
peter
ps: btw, it does not only accept the installation, it even works perfectly (of course without touch screen support, because smartphones do not have one).
You're right. It doesn't work...
Hmmm....doesnt Nokia9500 run Opera?

WM6 Office

Dear all,
Does it possible to clone the WM6 Office into WM5? Anyone can make it and share?
Thanks
Why?
Couldn't find one new feature missing from WM 5.
ummm...you can always create a new folder named Office Mobile ...if that makes you any happier ...or just flash your device with a wm6 rom
The only noticeable feature in Word is the loading progress bar when opening and saving. There may be others but that's all I've seen.

The WM5 pocket outlook can't read the mail with html format. If someone can extract the mobile office from WM6 (Crossbow) and make a CAB file for install to WM5 will be good.

official wm6 includes office 2007?

I dont see any reference to it in the pdf that describes it.
anyone know?
/f
Please read the Wiki. Official WM6 ROM release doesn't come with Office2007. There maybe hope in the Europe WWE release, but doubtful.
Microsoft is planning to offically release Office2007 this fall sometime as a free upgrade to WM6 users, so I've read. If this has changed, then correct me.
Sounds reasonable - they have to use the Windows Update Util for something after all
Smiffy.
thank you
sorry, I should have tried to read the wiki first

I am on Dopod latest WM6 rom and I amable to open docx files no problem?? does it mean that it is 2007 ??

If you open docx and xlsx, the answer is Yes. Probably you ROm was filled with the Office Mobile 2007 appz.
Well it is standard Official DOPOD WM 6 ROM. The only thing I have installed is OneNote Mobile... From One Note App on my Lappy.
Many cooked ROMs come with Office2007. Satin does (minus OneNote, which can be installed separately).
I'm pretty impressed with O2K7. PowerPoint is particularly good. It renders presentations very well indeed, including transitions.

Is teh O2 ROM available anywhere besides the O2 site ??
Go get it

I think the wiki needs to be updated then. The dopod rom (and my flavor of it) have Office 2007 apps.
Lordsmiff!
Thanx...
Have you got any comments on the ROM ?? maybe some screenshots ?? vbmenu_register("postmenu_1409703", true);
I don't know if I'm gonna flash it yet - been a serial flasher but I'm happy at the mo with black satin
I'll probably give it a run tomorrow
Smiffy.
Here is the CAB I used for my Onenote...
I was under the impression that no released version of Office 2007 Mobile has the ability to open .%%%x documents yet, and that this would be available as a downloadable update in the fall.. I read that on Jason Landridge's blog.
The version of Office 2007 Mobile that comes in the Treo 750 WM6 ROM definitely cannot open .docx, xlsx, etc.
My DOPOD ROM I looked in the WORD Mobile Settings and I see that the default template is set to .docx so I guess it does open *.%%%X files, plus I have tryed to open docx and xlsx files and no problem
Official HTC wm6 also includes Office 2007, minus outlook :-(
So you get: Powerpoint, Word and Excel.
Outlook is the old one and OneNote can be installed from pc if you have Onenote on it.
one note mobile cab in english
does any1 have the onenote mobile cab in english?

WM6 Remote Desktop CAB ??

Hi all,
In WM5 I had the terminal services option which I used to connect to my PC. Upgarded my Orbit using the O2 WM6 (standard) update and now dont have that option. I've done a bit of digging and found WM6 Pro has Remote Desktop. Does anyone know if there is a CAB for this or if the WM5 TS will work on WM6 standard.
Not really interested in 3rd party SW as I know this has been discussed in other parts of Forum.
Cheers...........Gilgamesh

It's like going back to windows 95 in your computer....
Uni came in with wm5 so you can not go before that, and there is no wm2003 roms for uni so NO...

Yea, Why do you want to downgrade from wm5/6/6.1/6.5/6.5.1?
Cause everyone says, that Win 2003 was the best of Windows Mobile ever. So I want to try it
Haha, everyone who?
Yes, it was the best Windows Mobile ever....6 years ago.
yeah, but look
WM 5 was the slowest
WM 6 was qiute good, 6.1 too
WM 6.5 well......
And now I want try WM 2003 on my Uniwersal, cause for exemple 2003 for BlueAngel, as everyone says, is the best
Or maybe there is a Win CE for uniwersal?
i don't mean to bump this, however this needs to be said.
i wish there was a wm2003 for the universal. or at least a clean working vga wm5.
I got a universal a few days ago, i slapped wm6 realvga on it. res was great, loved it. speed? i couldnt even answer a phone call. Thats how slow WM6+ is. changing screen orientation caused me to miss phone calls. I've since downgraded to swat4's wm5, which lacks vga but overall is much much faster lmfao.
so.
wm2003(entire OS in ram, how can it not be faster?)>wm5>wm6.0>wm6.1>wm6.5.
if only i could figure out how to use ramfilesystem for wm5. that'd be fantastic.
Dpends which WM6 you use. Most of us have found a version we love and runs extremely fast, and would only revert to WM5 if we needed Video Call.
On that subject, I see fring is doing video call. It would be good if that comes over to WM devices
Just until recently I had HP hw6515 the beetle with 64 mb ram, PXA270 312 MHz and WM2003SE. And it was not better at all. The delay and lag was awful when you were about to receive call while doing something else, surfing for example. The only advantage was the old memory allocation where you could just slide the bar and decide what amount will be available for programs and what for storage.
I wouldnt trade id for WM6 or even 5.

WM5 was slower than WM2003 for other reasons than just the OS. This was when the WM platform switched from NOR to NAND flash chips. NOR is faster and allows programs to be executed directly without copying to RAM first. NAND flash operates more like disk and programs have to be copied to RAM before execution. This slows down the OS. NAND has other advantages though (cost, life expectancy).

hmm interesting
wm 2003 in this uni
Oh i'm also interested in the wm2003 - from the pictures, there should be an official wm2003 rom for the UNI but not available to the public...the article also mentionned 128 MB of RAM...Rom it should have said I guess.
I miss my old PDA2's system. it would be great to have it back on this Uni.
