How to format micro-sd card? - P3300, MDA Compact III General

Hi,
Is it possible to format the micro-sd card without taking it out of the Orbit?. Currently I put into my PC and then format which is a pain due to the location of the card within the Orbit.
Rob.

format with help of Pocket Mechanic
You can format it with the help of Pocket Mechanic. It will do a god job but it just take quite a bit of time since the Artemis is much slower than the PC.

Anyone know which format works best in the Artemis. I mean FAT16 or FAT32. Also best cluster size.
I know the theory but the speed really depends on the device more than anything else and what it prefers.
At the moment my Sandisk Ultra II is FAT16 and performs ok.
Anyone else have an opinion?

I followed this and partitioned my card, mainly as TOMTOM seemed to have to be in the root of the storage card and I didn't like my stuff being with it as it was messy.
So I now have a 1GB card split as follows 400MB partition (storage card) just for TOMTOM and about 548MB (storage card2) for my stuff.
The main partition need to be the one you use for TOMTOM and 400MB was good for me as I just have the UK maps.
Cheers

2GB card in my exec not working?

hi, new to the forum! i have just bought a sans disk 2GB card but im having trouble using it. i tried it in a friends card reader and managed to put a couple of mp3 albums on but then it makes the system freeze up until you take the card out, i have formated it and tried again but the same happens, similarly when i put it in my exec the phone works fine and can see the mp3s but when i try and load one it freezes. iv been looking for the answer to the problem and found some info on 2gb cards in hp's something about this fat/fat32 thing, is this the problem iv got and could someone enlighten me? also will i be able to format the card or whatever while it is in the exec and synced with pc as i do not have another card reader, although my friend has a pc one if i have to do it that way...
many thanks in advance.
Check your OS
This thing happens only when
you have initial ROM (update it wth latest ROM)
Card is not formatted on the same media (format it on your universal)
Card media is + technology which is not compatible with your mobile. (try to change it to SD instead of MMC)
I hope above may help you
sorry if im being dumb but how do i format the card on my universal?
simply format it in windows... I got a 2gb high speed card from samsung and I am using it without any problem without formating it even once
it could also be that the card is incompatible or your universal is faulty. try another card and that same card in some other device
the card iv got is a sandisk one, i read that it was compatible with the xda II so presumed it would be fine with the exec?
I think it's broken.
I had a 2GB from Transcend, and it had the same symptoms.
I returned it for RMA, because I read that someone else ad the 4GB version was working perfectely.
Before you do return it, buy another card reader. I had 1gb cards that corrupted seemingly, except a newer SD reader formatted them fine and they have been fine ever since.
Not all readers can handle the big sizes.

SD Card Problem

I've bought a 4 Gb Sd Card yesterday, when i inserted it in my pc it asks me to format the card (showing me a size of 3800 Mb c.a.), but after i've done it now my card seems to be only 950 Mb c.a..... I've tried almost everything looking for a solution on the web (for example format again, format again but by DOS, use Panasonic SD Formatter, etc) but nothing, i can't have the size setted to 4 Gb...
What can i do to solve this problem?
Basically you must have bought a fake 4g card that is actually 1g. You can use your ppc as a storage device (using wm5torage) to format it through the pc. If it still reports 950mb you will then know for sure that it is a 1g card. The vendors have a way to trick the card to initially report a higher capacity but you will experience data loss if you use it that way without reformatting to the actual capacity.

sd card accessible but phone says its corrupted?

Hi everyone!
I have a transcend 8GB micro sd (class 6) in my desire.
Ive formated it like that:
7gb fat32
1gb ext3 (maybee its ext2 or 4 I dunno)
no swap
a few days ago my phone sayd that the sd card is corrupted!
The strange thing is that all my apps which are on the exp partition are still working flawlessly and I can also access all files on the sd card via ES Strong File manager!
What I cant do for ex. is setting up ringtones which are on my sd card. They show up in the ring tone menu but no sound plays but when I open em in the mp3 player they play fine!
I also cant take pics/vids with the cam because the phones says I should insert a sd card!
Is this a known problem?
What I wanna do is getting my data and my apps over to my computer and then reformating the card and transfering everything back. Just to see if it works then (doubt it!).
But I dont know how to do it because of the ext partition! Can you give me a hint please?

Click to collapse
its quite easy for one partiton to be corrupt while the other isnt, thats because there using diffrent fs's unless you have linux there is no way to access your ext partiton, just format the card and start again
Download the gparted(?) liveCD.
Mount the disk image, via daemon tools/cd etc.
This way, you can just reformat the partition you need.
I found this useful switching my ext4 to ext3 without wiping my FAT32 partition.
As long as you don't attempt to resize or touch the FAT32 partition, as linux handles FAT32 differently, and can become temperamental.
Shouldnt I be able to access the ect partition from any linux distri via vm ware?
I think thats the way to go - will try it today and report
I found this, too: http://www.howtoforge.com/access-linux-partitions-from-windows
think it will work but I have to gather some knowledge about linux anyway!

Memory Card Formatting

Good Evening once again,
Now that my phone is up and running again thanks to some wonderful people on here I was wondering if some could offer some advice on my memory card.
I was given a 32GB m-sd card for xmas that I REALLY want to use in my phone however having a problem formatting it. Using Gparted it will only let me create one partition. If I put my old 8GB mem card in I can delete all the parts and then recreate the two (one Fat32 and one ext4) So is there a reason why I cant do it on my 32gb card and is it fixable?
Thanks,
Max
If youre a windows user, google and download h2testw.exe to test the SD card. Just to confirm that there are no errors in the entire 32GB of space.

External microSD Card Slow in LG G3, Fast on PC

I had a 128GB microSD card in my LG G3, a 128GB Samsung EVO Select microSD card. After only a year I was seeing slow read/write benchmark speeds (using A1 SD Bench) & was also seeing some lag so I replaced it with a 128GB Sandisk Extreme Pro. But the speed for the Sandisk is the same.
The app A1 SD Bench shows them both doing Read: 42MB/sec, Write: 38MB/sec. I've seen others that see speeds of 70MB/sec and higher. Both cards are formatted exFAT.
I'm concerned that maybe I've made tweaks using Trickster Mod that might have slowed the card down? Or could there be another reason? Thanks to anyone that can help.
I don't know what's causing that. I also had a problem with my LG G3 851 and the SD card. Basically the SD card died and I can't read anything from it nor reformat nor anything. It was a 128gb SanDisk, one of the faster ones, running Lineage OS 16.1. I ended up just figuring I didn't really need the SD card in my case. I'm sorry your's is running slow. All I can say is try to factory reset the phone back to stock and see if that solves the problem.
Factory reset ("saying a prayer") is too drastic a step and rarely solves anything, but I did solve the problem.
Using Desk Genius on my PC I created a single partition on the microSD card (Most people just format, you must create a partition first). Then using Windows 7 disk format I formatted the microSD card for exFAT, 128K cluster size. Now the microSD card flies!!!
It took me a full weekend of testing to come up with this. I tried using various tools to partition, and various tools to format, all with different cluster sizes. This gave me the best performance.
Tools included Disk Genius, EaseUS Partition Master, MiniTool Partition Wizard, Windows 7 built-in tools, and a lot more.
EDIT: I forgot to add, after formatting you need to go back into Disk Genius and do a 4K alignment check (it's in the Tools menu). Alignment to 4K boundaries prevents extra read/write cycles and improves performance.
If it fails 4K alignment then you need to partition and reformat all over again.
That's awesome! I'll keep that in mind if I go get another SD card some day. I didn't realize that the format could mess up the read/write speeds. I wonder if a wrong format made my SD card die. If I do get another SD card, this time I'll keep the receipt in case it stops working again. I had a PNY SD card die on me in my Surface 3 as well.
It's not just the reformat, you have to repartition as well. And I forgot to mention you need to check for 4K alignment too (I edited my OP).
