I have not been able to turn on wifi reliably for ages now - It all started when I upgraded to WM5. Now (even if I downgrade to wm2003se) I cannot turn it on. I press the wifi on button, the cursor comes up but nothing happens), leave it for a couple of hours, and then press again - it will sometimes turn on. It then stays on for about 30 mins, and turns off (I have the wifi set to never turn off).
I cannot diagnose the problem - can you?
Any help GREATLY appreciated - feel free to ask for more details.

Ok guys weird problem here. I was using my blueangel today, everything fine, went to turn it off using the power button and it didnt go off. Wifi was on so i thought it was just being slow like it sometimes is to turn off when wifi is on. However, sadly no.
Now it will not turn off using the power button. If i hold the button down then it will turn the backlight on and off as usual, also if i wait for it to turn itself off then the power button will turn it back on so i cant understand.
I have tried hard reset and even reinstall firmware and still the same is happening. Anyone have any ideas it just seems really weird that the other functions of the button seem to be working but just not the power off.
Please Help.
Thanks Guys.
I had the exact same problem, and all I can say is that it is better now - it just fixed itself randomly.
My advice until then is to set the self-turn off time to the minimum value, and wait the 30secs to turn it off.
How weird.
How strange, how long did it take until it started working again. Mine hasnt sprung back in to life yet, but then it has only been a day or two. Also did you try to fix the problem with hard resets like i did or did you just leave.
Thanks for responding.
Rob.
I tried a few hard resets to no avail. At around the same time (though they started independently) I also had a problem where only a few items would actually show up on my today screen, despite being enabled. At this time I was on holiday in tunisia, phone on flight mode the whole time to save battery since I couldnt get any coverage.
When I got home to the UK, I tried to see if luton airport had a wifi network. I didnt find anything, but mysteriously my two problems had fixed themselves over the course of the flight.
Very odd. I cant think of anything that would have trigerred the self-fix.
(For the record, I dont think it was the flight mode on/off switching, as I'm pretty sure I turned that on/off a few times while the problem was still prevalent).
Again, all I can say is leave it and hope.
Yeh mine's doing this. My power button actually broke off board a few months ago but got it fixed and I thought it had come off again but the only prob is switching screen on, if I hold it the backlight goes off
Hi, i have just got a new xda orbit and noticed that when the backlight goes off after a set period (30 secs), it seems to be still lit but only very slighty, so at night you still see the today screen etc. But if i press the power button then the display goes off. Is this correct ?
The reason im asking as i have been using an xda mini s for over a year and when the backlight times out the display is not visible at all in the dark. You have to press the power button to see the screen again.
Hope this makes sense
Yes, that is fine. The dim backlight will go out in time too.
MaskedMarauder is 100% right. It will go out eventually.
Ok thanks guys for the quick reply, just obsevered it last night and noticed it was different.
Thanks again...
I've tried posting about this before, but it never gets answered - i've got a mda III, and that dims to brightness 1 (from within the registry), but will never go out - regardless of what rom i've tried.
I've also noticed that i can force set it to 0 in the registry, but thats the overall screen brightness. None of the other reg keys (putting bkl1:, etc in the various power keys) seem to work.
Any one got any ideas or utils to sort this? I'd try to code this as there are some code samples which allow you to force this, but i've not got VS
Like you i've tried all the registry edits i can think off to no avail. I too have a wizard and find this irritating - plus backllight stays on when media player on etc.. No difference with wm6 so i guess it maybe a hardware issue. I use a small app to turn off display when apps are running and i want the display off.
I use backlight time of 30 secs and power of 1 minute - so overall similar to my wizards backlight time of 1 minute.
why not..
why not just pres the I/O button on the side to turn off the backlight when u don't want it on? obviosuly a bit of a hassle, but if u get into the habit of doing it, no problems
Because that puts the device into standby and turns everything else off too (except the phone etc.) So if your listening to music your plunged into silence.
I had an XDA2i (Alpine) previous to my Orbit and I actually prefer the dimmed screen.
A brief press on the 1/0 power button WILL make the device go into standby.... BUT...
press and HOLD the power button for LONGER than 2-3 seconds and it toggles the backlight on and off, whilst STILL keeping the device on!
hope this helps
Joe
I tried to search for this, but found nothing close to an answer, and I hope someone can point me to a way of fixing this issue. I am having an issue with wifi-tether (app via marketplace), where your connected and all is good, but it will disconnect then reconnect real quick. It happens quickly, on my laptop, I see the icon show I disconnected, and in about 10 seconds, reconnect. I also noticed that while using it, once the screen turns off on the phone, after maybe 5 minutes of surfing, I have no internet, turn the screen on my phone to see what's up, and notice the 3G icon not there, then it pops up all of a sudden, and my internet is all good.. Anyone else notice that? I have no idea what to do to fix this, so again, any advice would be great. My apology by the way, if I posted this in the wrong secton. Thank you!
I noticed the internet issue don't come into play when the phone is connected to a power source. All last night and most of the day I have it plugged to the ac charger, and when the phone goes to sleep/screen goes off, if I turn the screen back on, 3G icon is there.. As soon as I unplug the phone from the charger, let the screen go off, wait about 3 minutes from that point, click the power button to turn the screen back on, 3G icon is not there, maybe 3 seconds go and it pops up, internet fine.. I never noticed this before, do you lose your interent connection once the phone goes to sleep/screen turns off? If so, is there a method of stopping that? Since I didn't post this before, just in case, rooted with UR3/Stock... Thanks again to anyone that can help me out...
I'm having an odd problem. When my G2 is sleeping (screen off, not charging) the backlight intermittently turns on and off. I'm currently running a CM7 nightly (#21) but have attempted to troubleshoot this by flashing several (non-CM7) ROMs, and the problem remains.
I've been unable to see anything in a logcat dump showing the screen or backlight activity.
Another symptom is that pressing any of the "hard" buttons (besides power) cause the backlight to momentarily activate, then turn off.
It behaves this way in any mode--airplane, wifi on/off, bluetooth on/off.
Otherwise everything else seems to function normally--as long as the screen is supposed to be on, it's great. Sitting on the table or nightstand flashing the backlight all night, no so much.
Anyone else had this problem, or is it time to start hunting for a "donor" device?
I was browsing through the forum to see if anyone has a similar problem, but this doesn't appear to be the case.
Since I updated my Note 2 (UAE version) to 4.3, my screen keeps turning off completely randomly (even when in the cradle). It just goes blank. Now - the phone doesn't go to sleep and I know that because if I play video, it still keeps playing (I hear the audio). When the screen goes off, I then need to push power button to turn off the screen and turn it on. If the video is playing, pushing the power button will of course lock the screen, so I actually first need to push home button to get out of the video, then power button to turn off the screen and then power button again to turn it on.
Am I explaining this well? So, the problem is not that the phone goes to standby, the problem is that the screen stops functioning and i need to push power button to put it into standby and then back from standby.
It is completely random - I can sometime work on the phone for hour and nothing will happen, and sometime it will happen after few minutes. It doesn't matter what I am doing, whether playing video, browsing web, checking email etc.
Anyone with a similar problem? Anyone, class, anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
