I've been having problems with getting Windows Live Mail to sync all the time (yes, I have selected "sync when items arrive", but next time you look it has changed back to manual!).
I`ve been looking around in the registry and I think I've found where it's stored, could someone who's email is syncing correctly tell me what registry value they have at -

Additional to that, does Windows Live have to be running all the time to sync as items arrive?
Thanks
Rob
I`ve wondered that too, I have tried both ways, but neither seem to work.
I'm having the same problem.
Just in case you are wondering, if you click on "As items arrive," and click on "done" and they you head back to it, it will NOT stick to it. That is normal, it does not stick to it.
Synctype = 1
Thanks for posting this question. I too have just started playing around with Windows Mobile Live.
I seem to think that 'as items arrive' does not stick. Also I have had success with WM Live getting messages when it was not running on my PPC so I am guessing it does NOT have to be running which is outstanding. Also I see that it will force a data connection instantiously upon a soft reset of the PPC.
All this tells me that WM Live is dug in deep into the ROM! Now the issue I seem to have with it.
I am betting that WM Live breaks the data connection invisibily. Here is why... It seems to work OK for a bit of time. Then even through the data connection shows connected NO applications on my PPC can access the internet. They all try but no data is ever returned. A soft reset and all is normal. I notice this about once a day and usually overnight.
Now I can't totally blame WM Live for this... I can blame my carrier, the internet in general, sun spots, etc... It is just so many variables to keep a working data connection going.
I changed HTCustom to keep my connection always on, so I'll see if that helps. Well this seemed to help. I did not have WM Live running and sent messages at different times to my WM Live email and got them all suprisingly.... I did not get the attachements pushed but I believe some others have posted that as an issue...
I've given up on it, it just seems to flakey to me.

It worked in black 2.0, but not in any of the latest roms (black 2.5, 3.0, LVSW, etc)
Anyone know what might have changed?

I finally had an evening with WM6 LIVE and AS RECIEVED/ALWAYS on for emails and man is this QUICKKKKKKKK --- in terms of PUSH email its almost freakish fast.
I was sending emails from other accounts, specifically Yahoo and work accounts and BOOOOOOOOM it hit my 8525 almost instant...
Then - not sure if it was the reboot, or what, but I can no longer get those "as recieved" settings or anything other than MANUAL to stick for Email-SYNC.
Is there a new version or fix to make this work guys. Part of me makes me think this "could" be a server forcing those settings back to me but wanted to check.
I could not have been more impressed - it was lightning fast and I was feeling in love with hotmail again and thinking about forwarding to hotmail for that Push.
Advice? - thanks for anything ---- maybe there is a new version I just can not seem to find one.
Thanks all
Remove the settings from activesync (on your device). Now re-enter them and warm-boot the device:
to warm booth the device:
Press and hold the power button until the confirm box appears
Select Yes, the device will power down
power on the device as normal
Only thing i can think of is a soft reset was carried out before the settings took.
THANKS!!!
Man SO MUCH thanks for the quick response - I am trying RIGHT NOW!!!!
A million thanks - I am assuming they stick for you then correct?
Thanks!!!!!!!!!

My settings just work as normal, when there is a change on either the server or my device they synchronise.
OK - Let me be more clear ok.
This is WINDOWS MOBILE LIVE - then the settings associated with LIVE. Here is where you set how LIVE aka Hotmail will be delivered, which is essentially HOTMAIL-PUSH... Which is freakin awesome......... However, the settings (and I saw this posted once before) they wont stick. It now defaults back to MANUAL only and not AS RECIEVED.
So the steps are -
1 - LIVE is installed
2 - Synch performs first time
3 - Then in PROGRAMS you adjust the live settings, one is SYNC and this is the issue.
I checked for a Registry setting on the device but could not find any to hard-set them there.
Just fyi

Wndows LIVE Sync Schedule
The Setting is:
Option #3 - Sync Schedule
Option is - Sync Frequency (AS ITEMS ARRIVE)
This is the one that allows Push to be received on the 8525 and won't stick. BUT - it did last not and not sure if it is being Server governed. When this was in place I've seen PUSH perhaps better than I have with a BlackBerry. AMAZING.
But now it just resets to MANUAL once you save it with DONE.
Any help on this one folks is much appreciated.
Same Problem - No settings stick
I am having the same problems with my Windows Live settings. Just went to play around with the Sync Schedule settings and it looks like NONE of the settings stick, not just the delivery frequency. I didn't even have to soft reset for the settings to undo. So this is definitely an issue.
I have Live set to sync emails, but NOT messenger and contacts.
I noticed this happening last week with LSVW and still doing it today with Black VI.

I don't think it is really not sticking...it just shows as not sticking. I have noticed this back in wmxl 0.10 and even posted about it. Mine does not seem to stick either, but my hotmail stays constantly connected and shows up as pushed mail, even without settings sticking. the question I am dying to get answered? Are either of you able to get sound and onscreen notifications from windows live mail?
OK - I agree with you as well and noticed this after I posted. Oddly for some reason I was not getting some emails, dug, and saw nothing sticking but dont think that was the issue. I do as well see CONNECTED which makes me feel good.
Next - NO!!! I have tried like heck to see which alert ties to this but am not able at all as you mention to tie an alert/notification to the incoming LIVE emails.
Boy is this nice --- but a few items need worked out. I also wish somehow without servers that support Direct Push, I am in a major BlackBerry shop that I could get ActiveSync as middleware for PUSH. They removed the net option and I have tried every push option with not as much luck. I want ActiveSync with NET and PUSH/NetSync ....

Believe me I think I have looked at every possible registry entry and cannot figure out which one would fix this.
Anybody have the phone not waking up every once in a while after installing mobile live? It clearly what causes the problem because I used wm6 black 1.2 for a week and no problem then I installed live and my phone started hanging. Is there a solution for that problem?
I've installed bepe's WWE WM6 ROM for a while now. I'm have a lot of troubles with the pre-installed live messenger. I can't change my name, can't change screen image, the program freezes when i try to log in, online users are shown as offline, my email doesn't arrive (with push email), in short: looks like a crappy program to me. But i don't hear much complaints in the forum here. Are some of you experiencing this problems also with B&B ROM?
Btw: i've tried all basic advices: turning shared screen-image in the desktop messenger, clearing the password, switching users...no results...
Hi,
Some people seem to suggest this comes from an incompatibility issue between the thumbnail (user image) format on Windows and Windows Mobile. I'm however not so sure about this. I've bumbed into this issue several times and the only way to work around is by switching 'accounts' and just logging in to the same account again after picking this option.
The problem happens on all WM6 ROMs I tried so don't even bother trying different versions, unless perhaps an official WWE ROM is released.

i seem to have found a solution
I have a dutch version of Live Messenger installed on my computer, (because i come from holland ), so i can't give you the exact option names. But i'll try to explain:
In Live Messenger (on your desktop) there are two options:
- showing screen image to other users (your msn contacts)
- keeping screen image and personal message always the same, wherever you login
the last option seems to do the trick: put it OFF on your desktop Messenger. Now i can sync, change nickname, screen image, personal message and see all online users on my P3300!
EDIT:
CRAP! Yesterday no troubles, now i'm not able to see any online users this program is driving me mad! I ll wait for a newer version before wasting any time on it...good job microsoft
i have tried several versions of Messenger, none of which work properly. looked though other forums, none had an answer, that i could see. i have been using Shapesoft IM+, it works, but nowhere near as nice as Messenger used too.
I hope the new HTC ROM will bring the solution...
POP Email accounts and elements of Network setting disappear once in a while.
It happens with all the new ROMs. I've done the mUn thing, where one opens a connection, stops it and restarts. But the accounts still disappear, sometimes after weeks of use, sometimes after just a few days.
There is an app to resurrect the missing email account, but after you still have to input servers and address. Just very annoying while traveling.
What is the damned problem and is there a permanent solution?
I have changed the file registry type (File based registry) from "Hive" to "File" using tweaks2k2 and it seems ok, someone else needs to cross check it
please explain
I also would avoid this repetitive problem , could you please how to try , step by step , in simple words ?
thanks
Thanks, taiseer999! I just changed to File, keeping my fingers crossed. BTW, how long have you used it after the change without loss of settings?
tower5, you need tweaks2k2 (it has 3 changes trial and go to System Tricks/Collection 5. Check File Based Registry (WM5).
Hopefully this works (it sounds like it should.)
P.S. Perhaps. if this really works, the ROM chefs can integrate it into the ROMs. Is there any disadvantage to using File rather than Hive?
I´ve been following all the steps that mun_rus wrote down and after the last upgrade I didn´t do it right away so I lost my e-mail accounts quite a few times and when I try to set the same account up with the same name and settings the pda pops up a message saying that there´s another account with the same name and I don´t know where and I don´t see it.
But now I guess it´s working fine, after several soft resets my new account it´s till there.

It doesn't work, unfortunately:-(
Checked mail last night, a little later went to check again, and the email account had disappeared.
This is just crazy....
What is the reason this is happening? To ALL the new ROMs?
Why MS don't Fix this Big Problem?

yes, mailrepair.exe do recover the mail account.
but the main problems is not only about mail account, it is a datebase lost or cert lost.
even u recover the mail account and setup all the password again to make the wm system continue working, it became unstable anyway.
once account lost, best way out is hard-reset.
in daily use, avoid to reset the handset as much as possible.

It's a security feature of wm6, bugged of course.
Disabling file system cache can help (I've never lost email account until now) but you still have to take care to close PO before a soft reset.

just started using ax3l's lite rom, wi-fi settings and mail accounts seemed to stay there no problem untill I installed network wizard. After that everything disappears after every reset. Could that be the cause....?
just when I got most of my apps neatly reinstalled and all....has to be done all over again...at times like these I really have to fight the temptation to throw the thing against the wall...Thankfully I got an N95 as well which never loses settings so back into the pocket the P3600 goes, hail the N95
will update on that settings /mail accs business when I get the nerve to reinstall everything again
Yay, got my accounts back! Thanks!
I'm not going to pretend to know what I'm talking about, but I can tell you that in the past, it was mentioned that it had something to do with the Old and New Kernels. The Old one (WM5) was fine, while the new one (WM6) is not. At least that's what I THINK I remember.
Anways, for whatever reason, my ROMs don't have this problem. Here are a couple that I know avoid it:
[KITCHEN+ROMS][WWE][Jun.28.2010] WM6.5.1 23504 - WM6.5.5 23569 M2D Blue Re-Visit
[KITCHENS+ROMS][WWE][ITA][Nov.04.2009] WM6.5 23504 - Sorry NOT FOR P3600i! OFFLINE
[KITCHENS+ROMS] [WWE] [10.27.2009] WM6.5 23081 - Sorry NOT FOR P3600i!
I have used the same Kernel in Most all of my Kitchens, so maybe that is it...
Synch problem
OK ...
Finally posting on this problem - hoping others have experienced it and can help with a solution. I have a T-Mobile Dash WM6.1 (though this problem happened with WM 5 and 6), synching to a Vista Machine (Windows Mobile Device Center). This has happened on multiple machines/setups and different Dashes.
Every so often (maybe twice a week), when I synch - I get the dreaded little red-x in the corner of the "synch center" icon in the task bar, indicating a problem. Activesynch in my dash says Attention Required: "There has been a change made on your server that requires you to re-synchronize all items on your device ..."
Ugh. First - this takes a long time. Second - I lose my speed-dial and voice tags for my contacts. All a pain in the a**.
For months, I have been trying to figure out the rhyme or reason for this. It's happened with freshly booted PC and Dash. It's happened when nothing significant has occured (changes, disruptions) ... I've tried different bluetooth ports, wires (trying anything)
The closest thing I can think of is that it happens when I modify a contact, but I am grasping at straws.
Has anyone experienced this, and is there a solution?
Thanks!
Been there...
I've had that kind of problem when I tried to sync my outlook e-mails into my device, tried lots of things ("disable advanced USB connection" is one of the most famous suggestions) but what ultimately work for me was giving up on syncing my outlook e-mails and having my pop mail accounts setup on the device and downloading them every so often to keep it up to date with my outlook...
Anyways, try googleing for the error number or the phrase you get in the error box between "". But don't get your hopes too high tough: the problem is well documented and very spoken of but M$ doesn't seem to care much about it to come up with a solution (not even an official response, if my recollection is not mistaken).
Well, good luck and cheers.
Well, Synching outlook emails is the lowest of my priorities. Synching appointments, tasks and contacts are more important. Thanks anyway.
Thanks for your suggestion that I try to use google to find the error message. I never thought of that. Google. Are they a new startup?
; )

Hi all.
My Touch Pro 2 has suddenly stopped connecting to any wifi sources
I can still detect wifi networks, and I have recreated all of my previous wifi settings but no joy.
I can't think of anything that I've changed however I did recent "reset to default" my installation of "Advanced Configuration". Wifi worked fine before I installed "Advanced Configuration", after I used it to make changes.
Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this for the next couple of months before I move on to a new phone?
thanks in advance.

Apologies - it's a standard HTC WinMo 6.1 ROM no mods or updates.
I'm trying to avoid a hard reset if at all possible. It's a lot of hassle having to set the phone up again - configuring bluetooth, wifi, contacts, etc
In any event I'm planning to get a replacement on another OS in a month or so.
Problem solved!

Id follow the advice and do a back up of your contacts and what not and just do a hard reset. Its amusing that you'd rather get a new device then take the 20 minutes it would take to hard reset the phone and resync everything back on and get it back to where you want it though

It's easy - actually a lot easier than when I had a WinMo device. The new Android phone comes with HTC Sync which allows for syncing with my Outlook install and still allows me to choose what t do with conflicts.
In addition I sync automatically with my online calendar and contacts.

I did try a hard reset in the end - it made no difference. In addition I was fed up with trying to update to WinMo 6.5 for better finger tip functionality.
Btw I tried that in the past and spent many long hours "convincing" Outlook not to duplicate appoints since it couldn't recognise existing items.
I tried the myphone service and it was quite good - took a bit of time (I couldn't connect to wifi remember ) but quite good.
I agree about the calendar sync that's important for me too...but so is the wifi access when I'm at home.
In the end the choice of wasting more time trying to fix the WinMo device and get it back to where I started was outweighed by the more flexible, finger friendly and app happy Android device.
And the Android device does a automatic backup to a local sd card by default for all my apps and their settings....

I DON'T use outlook on my PC. All my stuff is on my phone. But I do use outlook to create new appointments. When I receive an email that involves a meeting, I typically paste in the details and then sync my phone, which receives the data.
It is also easier to manage contacts with outlook.
I also use Outlook as a backup to my contacts and calendars.
As to why? I prefer to have my information available regardless of network access. On-line means I have to have a data connection available. In my travels I have been to places that do not support T-Mobile or a roaming GSM connection. So my phone has it all... and of course it will sync with my laptop as well.

Thanks for your contribution - you must be a real blast at parties.
If you had nothing useful to add why bother adding anything at all...?
I tried hard reset and it made no difference - stated that above.
I tried myphone - interesting service but I found it a bit slow - also stated above.
If you're the best the WinMo crowd can offer I'm quite glad I've moved on to the Android patch.
To everyone else thanks for your suggestions.
