How to: Cingular and PIE - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Hello everyone, I have a hopefully easy question. I noticed on some roms, I do not need to have the cingular proxy checked on to visit cingular video and medianet home using PIE. I like that because I can still stream in WMP.
How can I add that setting to the browser in my new rom (new rom does not have those native PIE settings, as now I must have the proxy on to view cingy sites, crippling my WMP)? Or how can I set WMP to work even with the medianet proxy?
Thank you.

phathead785,
Check the Custel rom threads. Custel has a nice cab for the Cingular settings (v.2), including server assigned ip addresses. Wap, Medianet, & mms.
Custel has a cab called : Custel Cingular Applications, which installs all the Cingular apps, e.g., xm, mobitv, streaming video/audio, proxy on/off app,etc..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=305897
I've used these cabs on many different wm6 roms.
When you use the Medianet streaming video, you need to configure the realPlayer specifically for MediaNet in options.
If you install StreamingPlayer from a rom or a cab, then you can also get streaming video on your Cingular data connection, but you must re-configure StreamingPlayer as the default in registry. This is in HKEY Classes Root/rstp registry entry area. It will show RealPlayer as default. That doesn't mess up the streaming when on MediaNet connection for Cingular videos.
Looks at threads of Custel latest wm6 rom offering. His roms are generally excellent & he helps you get the correct addons.

Thank you for all of that info...
but I would like to be able to get to the medianet home page with the proxy off....
I know there is a way to internally imbed the proxy settings into the PIE so only PIE picks up on it...
can anyone help?
Thanks

In two words: you can't

that's where your mistaken. I've done it before...using lvsw cingular optomized and black cingular optomized roms. if you are using either one, remove the proxy, the medianet page wil still load...
so how can I make my non cingular optomized rom do that?
thanks

Can you elaborate on this a bit? How are you removing the proxy and what is "the medianet page"?
By "lvsw cingular optimized" ROM, do you mean mine?

by unchecking it in the connections.

You have a manually configured proxy, then, and therefore you've got to either uncheck it or switch connection profiles to bypass it. The optimizations in my ROM (among others) employs an alternate technique that circumvents all that.

how can I adapt my current rom to do that? Is it a bunch of registry settings that get changed? I appreciate your help

O2 XDA Orbit Connections tab

Hi guys new here found this site after upgrading on O2 from an aging Sony Ericsson P900 to my first ever WM5 device. £50 on £25 12 month contract
So far I think its absolutely great no probs what so ever
Just one thing, Ive been trying to get it to access the O2 Active Wap site but it always ends up going to the html version (pda.o2.co.uk), Ive tried looking around googling for answers some say pocket IE doesnt do wap and some say it does if you set it up properly.
This is where the Connection tab comes into it, Ive read to go to Settings>Connections>Connections> Manage exsiting connections and in there set up the proxy but all I see are two tabs; Tasks and Advance........no Proxy settings tab to be seen??
Any advice, Thanks in advance
First question has to be... why bother with wap when you have access to www?
PIE does support wap, you just need to use wsp://xxxxx instead of http://xxxxx
But, I'm pretty sure none of the WM5 Xda's are supported by the O2 active wap site. So even if you can get on there you won't be able to do the things you can on a standard phone, like download ringtones etc.
The preconfigured O2 setting should be fine for accessing wap if you really want to (the connection is only there to use MMS). You don't need to change the proxy settings.
Thanks for the reply, I managed to discover how to get the proxy setting up, I had to change the select network to connect to internet using My Work rather than My ISP before it would come up in the Tasks tab
Just wanted to try to get the wap version of the site for the content, sport, tfl tube news, competitions etc. Tried wsp:// still comes up with the crappy pda version with all the ITN crap.
I would use the full http versions on GPRS if O2 had a decent enough data package, Im still getting over the fact its no longer free after 3 yrs of non charging
Anyone know how to get it to say emulate a non pda phone?

Cingular(ATT) MediaNet and m.youtube.com

Hi,
Does anyone of you in NYC with cingular medianet Max Unlimited plan able to connect to m.youtube.com without getting "failed to connect network" error message?
It seems to me that Cingular has blocked the ports that streaming video are using? I am using Wifi without any problem.
Does anyone has a clue?
Thank you.
There's no streaming video on m.youtube.com... just some links to movies in 3gp...
I know in Media Net's WAP settings there is a proxy setting---try removing the proxy setting. I know without the proxy setting in place---you cannot access Cingualar's MediaNet page/videos.
I use PDA Net plan --- Could not get MediaNet to work on 3G at the time (also in NY).

Setup 2 profiles on phone. One for MediaNet (includes proxy settings) & another, e.g., ISP, not using proxy. MediaNet connection will work with many sites, but not streaming video or audio.
When you want to go to a site, like youtube or video streaming music, use your ISP profile. Do a search on forum & you'll find a Custel progy for switching between proxy & non-proxy.
If that doesn't work, reply here, as there might be a reg setting that needs to be changed.

Cingular setting?

I have 354c rom but from media net i can't check my account, cingular video dont work. Is it any way to solve this problem ?
here it is.
with these proxy cabs you can get media net and cingular video.

Constantly losing 'Work' proxy settings

Hi all, have a little problem, am going to see if Toms 4.1 rom has the same issue, and something in the back of my mind tells me that it's there by design.
Basically, i connect to two different types of wireless networks, those are:
Work: I go to different schools, all part of the same WAN, the access points are different, keys etc, but the proxy is always 172.1.0.5:8080
Everywhere else: no proxy, random addressing, the usual stuff.
Every time i enter the work proxy server and leave the connections tab, the proxy settings dissapear, it only seems to be the main proxy settings, as the WAP, Secure WAP and Socks settings keep. As soon as i connect to the work network, goodbye proxy, as soon as i disconnect, the proxy settings return.
I really need that to work the other way around.
Currently using Toms B&B 4.0, as previously stated i'll check to see what happens in 4.1, but i have a sneaky idea that it's there for a reason.
Any workarounds? registry hacks?
Thanks
Kai
Still having trouble with my proxy settings, tried B&B 4.0, 4.1 and Artemis touch WWE.
All have the same problem, Proxy server settings dissapear when and only when i use the Work settings for connection. If i use the 'Internet' setup or simply disconnect from Wifi, the proxy settings re-appear.
If i can't get this to work, i'll have to go back to the official rom, all of the other bells and whistles are just fluff, i need this more than anything else.
Thanks
same deal here. they certificate secured services with my problem. connect fine, and get DHCP address assigned, but the proxy server settings don't stick. internal sites are fine, but can't get outside as all access is barred except via the proxies. i figured it was a bug and live with it! please let me know if the official ROM fixes it or you find a workaround though!

Had no problems with proxy settings with the official WM5 or WM6 roms, but with B&B and WWE i've had no luck at all.
I do hope someone knows why this is happening.
Well, think i found the solution to this.
I was thinking that there had to be something specific to the 'cooked' roms which would disable the proxy, and the only thing i could in common with the Three cooked roms that i've tried has been battery status. It's the only utility that mentions specifically 'disabling the proxy for wifi'.
In the options for battery status you will find an option that will do just that, i enabled it(thus theoretically stopping the proxy from working), and then disabled it again. And now when i connect through my work connection, the proxy settings are still active and i can recieve my mail.
**and before anyone asks, i didn't enable the option before **

HOW IS MOBITV switching my internet to CINGULAR GRPS (ISP)?

Okay,
I'm running Black Satin and I just installed a MOBITV cab. Somehow when it is starting it is forcing my connection over to my ISP settings from cingular and not media net. Then it is sitting there and will not run. When I go to PIE it promptly changes the settings back to Media net. In the Connections>Advanced Tab, both of my drop down boxes have Media net in them. Any idea why this is happening?
hard coded into mobitv id assume..
I agree that it appears MOBITV is referencing this but I'm just not sure how to change/solve it. I tried searching for another cingular settings cab to try and change the settings. Anyones advice would be helpful. Or if someone could post a .cab file with the latest cingular settings I would appreciate it.
