XDA Orbit UK, can the bottom bar be removed? - P3300, MDA Compact III General

Hi everyone, I just got a XDA Orbit to replace a XDA Atom Exec+bluetooth gps.
So far so good, hard to believe this device is almost as fast as a 512Mhz one..
I've installed everything I had on the Atom but since the Orbit has a little bar at the bottom with a battery indicator and an icon to lauch the comm manager my today screen doesn't fit and I get an annoying scroll bar on the right hand side.
Is there any way to remove the bottom bar? I don't really need it.
Thanks.

On my Orbit, the menu item shows icons for :-
Battery / Screen Rotate / Comm Manager / Brightness / GPS update / Mouse
Is this the same on yours? If so;
Start
Settings
Today
Items tab
Look for "HTCHomeplug" (on my device anyway)
Untick
Jeff

Thanks Jeff, but I don't have anything like that on the items list under today settings. The only selected are Spb Mobile Shell, Pocket Plus and Spb Diary. The same I used to have in the atom.
Very annoying bar..

Hi.. You can use this free app :
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-htcustom-v1-1.html
HTCustom is a little application to tweak and customize WM5/6 devices to their owners content. Whats Good? - Thin Scroll Bars - Short Scroll Arrows - Live Searches Via Google - Remove battery/comm manager from tray - Clock Display (clock, date, nothing, both, battery) - Enable Time Zones .
I havn't tried it so not sure it's exactly what you need
Cheers

Thanks, but unfortunately didn't work, got an error message.
I finally got rid of it by hard-restarting it and soft restarting when I got the message saying the o2 software was about to install.
I hope I didn't miss anything by doing this. Seems like a clean device now, no custom apps in it.

Orbit Today Shortcuts

I'm assuming the Orbits Shortcuts item on the Today screen is to add icons
a bit like spb Pocket plus
I can't see where to add them though, options is greyed out on Today settings and there's no context menu either
am I missing something?
thanks for any help in advance
took me a while to work this out:
click 'options' on the o2 close apps thingy that resides on the bottom right of the today screen next to the battery level and comm manager shortcuts.
Hope this helps.
Thats the one
cheers
i have 2 white icons that are not shortcuts to anything and i cannot get rid of them anyone any ideas ?
icon not there
I dont know what this icon should look like, but I cant find anything in my "tray". There is only ActiveSync,Battery-charging,trun disply, conn manager and Quick GPS.
I use Orbit with O2 (german)
Any ideas? Or can you post a scrrenshot?

Xda Orbit Devive lock Question

Hi i got a xda orbit, my question is on the orbit the are 3 icons on the bottom right hand side which are comm manager, battery meter and o2 setup i was woundering if there is any way to have the the device lock move to where the other icons are as a group
welcome
you'll need to use an app such as 'phm traylaunch' (freeware) or 'ilauncher' (not freeware) and place the icon of a device lock program in the tray, try googling for 'delta lock' or 'yet another device lock' ...
but basically read this forum, if you can think of the question, it's probably already asked and answered
Bottom right corner is generally called the Tray.
Use PHM Tray Launch or similar app to launch an app like Yet Another Device Lock.
I would use VJTrayLaunch to launch VJDeviceLock.
However, using VJDeviceLock you can make it automatically lock the phone everytime you switch off, so you don't waste even one icon to launch it.

thanx for the reply but my 3 icons are not on the tray but just above it on the right hand corner and thats where i would like to place the device lock.
in this screenshot the battery and comm manager icons are in the tray,
the soft key label is the lowest part with 'calendar' and 'contacts' on it

Remove task bar icons??

Hi,
I would like to remove the clock and message icons that appear on the task bar at the top of the today screen. When I follow the registry root in the Wiki web page the path is not the same as whats on my XDA Orbit. Any ideas????
Rob.
Hi robquick,
I also want rid of the clock.
I tried this with resco reg editor:
HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Shell/ShowTitleBarClock set to 0
But the clock is still there.
I can't determine what difference it has made.
The reason I would like to be rid of the clock is that it looks very crap indeed with "magic button" in use, plus I also have LVM Time on my today screen.
I think that you can remove them by using either SkTools or Tweaks2k2.
Make sure you have a complete backup of your phone before doing anything

O2 standard Apps

Does anyone know where I can download and install the standard O2 apps that are installed as part of the WM5 customization after a hard reset?
I've just upgraded my Orbit to WM6 and am missing these as they were really useful. I'm not intrested in other apps as I know these O2 ones worked fine and didn't drain the battery etc etc.
The 3 I'm after are,
1) Running Apps for the Today screen
2) Battery Meter
3) Memory usage Meter
4) O2 task manager shortcut Icon
Thanks.
These will be the ones I'm after, all shown on this review just before half way down the page in the screen shots.

Meters allows you to show up to three level meters for Battery, Memory, and Storage card. Each meter can be tapped on to show; a plain bar, the bar with percentage, or bar with Mb free.
Running Apps displays a simple line of icons indicating which programs are currently running in the background, tapping the icon switches to that program.
Shortcuts allows for up to five shortcuts to be configured for launching, tapping on the icon launches the program.
Task Manager - this is activated via the 'O2 bubble' which resides in the bottom bar of the today screen. A single tap on it brings up a brushed metal pop-up which displays the running applications and an options menu. The 'X' next to the listed applications allows each application to be terminated manually when required. Options allows you to select which O2 Custom Today applets are usable on the Today screen, as well as allowing you to define the shortcuts for the Shortcut applet.
They are all in the 'Items' menu of the 'Today' setup in preferences. You need to turn on Meters, Profiles and Shortcuts.
Thanks for the reply and they woudl be if I was still running my O2 ROM and it had run the customization to install them after a hard reset but I've upgraded to BEBE's WM6 ROM which doesn't have any of the O2 utils loaded.
Anyone else on where I can get these? Would anyone with an O2 Orbit ROM be able to pull the customization CAB install files out of their ROM somehow for me?
I just sent you a PM. I can email them to you.

Click to collapse
Can you upload these files somewhere?
I just checked the ftp site and they are already there...
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Artemis/Extended_ROMs/O2_Orbit_UK_1.25.206.101_extended_rom.zip
Big thanks to Mark for that and the email. All loaded on and the meters runnings apps and O2 bubble task manager are all there and I'm almost back to where I was on WM5..
However SPB Time fails to wake up the phone from a screen saver locked state with sound, sure it'll flash up the screen with snooze or dismiss red and green buttons but no sound errm kinda makes it useless as an Alarm Clock and as I'm sure all the rest of you out there do I really rely on my phone as an Alarm.. I've been late 2 days in a row now because of this, no joke so.. errm kinda critical for me to get fixed..
Any ideas people. I've even un installed the paid for version I had and installed the latest version (trial) from their site

Hello,
At the risk of sounding stupid, I've just downloaded the zip file for the extended roms. I've unzipped it and gathered from the config file that I should place the cab files in specific locations... My question is, is there a (semi)automatic way of installing it? If not, should I follow the paths found in the config file? Also, there are a few files missing, ie the bmp files, do I need them? Lastly, what about the config.txt the file... where is that to be placed?
Sorry for the barrage of questions Noob here, just want to make sure I understand this the right way!
Thanks for all the help!

PS. 1st post, great site btw!!

Adding icons

hi there i just wanted to know how to add extra options t the bottom of the screen on the p3300 - i upgraded to touch 2.0
its a mda compact 3 nd when came with t-mobile branding/software had little icons at the bottom of the phone like bluetooth, comm manager, battery etc etc, like shortcuts. any idea how to do this?
Try going into Start / Programs / Accessories / TrayLaunch this will let you add shortcuts to the bottom tray at the bottom (you will need to know the exact filename and path to where the programs are installed because it doesnt give you the option to browse for the program)
oh great thanks! but how do i find out the exact file names? i heard it was not safe to launch the tray launcher with touch 2.1 upgrade?
is there some sort of manual or something i can find? tried the net no joy
You can upgrade battery status to latest version 1.04 build 239 and traylaunch is now bug free
oh gret thanks!
