I just upgraded from 2.5 t-mobile black, which had the "running programs" link in the start menu. I used it all the time, when my machine would be come sluggish. Sadly it seems to be missing from black 3.01.
Is there a method to put it back in with 3.01

The HTC X-Button 1.5 cab adds in the functionality to see a list of running programs from the home screen and you can kill them from there.
thanks bill, I had tried that already, although it doesn't go in the start menu! only goes on the today screen or in the settings menu....

did you install the new version that adds a drop down menu to the top right corner of the today screen?
yes its awesome, however I want to be able to have a shortcut to it in my start menu a la running programs!
that way I can access directly from the start menu, without having to go to the today screen.

Yeah I tried that ages ago but as you know the htc 1.5 program doesn't appear as an option there!!!
Try it out you will see......
Create a file called Running Programs.lnk and put this in it:
22#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,4,2
I have put this to WIKI - hope thats ok...but seems as a nice feature.
Cool Thanks... maybe someone will make this into a cab for future flashing...

Alright, so you create a file, by that you mean create a file.lnk and move it to unit or create the file on the unit itself. Reason why I am asking is that on most file managers there is no option to create a file, only folders. Or are you talking about creating a shortcut link to the startmenu from that folder?
Perhaps a little more detail would help.
Unzip this and place it on your device under the Windows/ folder. You can then add it to your start menu under settings

I could have done this myself! However, it is more than I expected when I posted the question. Thank you sir.
PS:. Well, since this thread is connected to the Wiki then Kakirkla's file will be there for future reference. Good.
All you needed to do was copy the memory file into programs and it does the same thing.

Can u explain a bit more for the rookies
Hello,
I'm trying to replace the sym.0409.txt in windows-folder. But this file is writeprotected, so I can't delete or replace it. when I try to paste the file to windows-dir I get a message "do you realy want to replace the file... blablabla". When I click "yes", windows creates a new file "copy of sym.0409.txt"
can anyone tell me how to replace write protected files in windows-directory?
i belief this discussion has nothing to do with WM6. perhaps it should be moved to a general discussion?

Depends how you are doing it....
Resco file explorer will allow you to "overwrite" file in the windows directory. If you install it you get 30days before you have to register it or remove it.
Hope that helps.
Some files can be overwritten by copying from within your desktop computer using Active Sync or Windows Mobile Device Centre, instead of directly on the device. I think.txt would fit this criteria.
.dll's need something like Resco Explorer installing on your device (on trial) and they will overwrite system files.
the windows-dir is not accessible from desktop-pc... but the resco-file-explorer-solution works fine

ok... thats new for me... can you tell me how? when I go to my device in desktop explorer I see a harddrive "/" and under "/" I see all the rootdirectories from the device - except the windows-dir. typing in directly "//Windows" doesn't work too.
perhapgs it's a vista-only phenomenon...

From WMDC, File Management, Browse files ...
\ Then Windows is listed.
The reason you can't see it is because you haven't unticked Hide Protected Operating System Files in CP-Appearance-Folder Options-Show Hidden Files
Edit: Herr*: Calm down, Wash was right and tried to help you with what he had available at the time.
You can overwrite the file using freeware Pocket Total Commander. I have been able to overwrite said file with this app. Sym.txt allows for entering additional characters (with umlauts....) via hardware keyboard.
Oops - ignore this.
Ok here is how you do it, folder options, view, uncheck "hide protected operating system files (recommended)". Presto, you can see it now, at least in Vista.
Hello. I installed Sprint's release of WM6.1. I have the HTC Vogue and I want to use Vista Cube2. I have successfully edited the Registry to make non-working icons point to the proper executable but I don't know what to point to for Settings and Programs. Those two icons give the "file cannot be opened... components cannot be found" error. The registry shows that they point to "\windows\htcsettings.exe" and "\windows\htcprograms.exe". Neither of those files appear in my windows directory. Can someone PLEASE take a moment to tell me to which executables the icons should be pointing? Without Settings and Programs working, I will have to go back to Sprint's Cube.
I just did a quick search for htcsettings.exe with resco explorer. that file isn't found on my device. hmm
I need a real GURU.
Thanks Dannysportbike. Apparently the programs that call Settings and Programs have a different name on some phones. The files htcsettings.exe and htcprograms.exe are not on my phone either. Does anyone know the alternate names for these programs or how I might figure out the names?

DUH! I should have thought of that sooner. Thanks much! Unfortunately there is still a problem with htcPrograms.exe. It will only run once. When I click on it a second time (even from the File Explorer), nothing happens. If I reboot it will work one time again. Any ideas?
Don't know about settings, and it sounds like you want the default Programs launcher, it's in the "\Windows" directory as "folderview.exe"

YOU ARE MY HERO! No one else seemed to have the answer for me. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!
I just started doing the xdandroid (since it was 'finalized' on 9/16), by downloading the cab, and installing the reference version of the package.
Everything installs and runs fine. The first time. After a graceful shut-down, and re-starting, I learn that the startup.txt file is 0 bytes -- empty! So, Android won't boot.
Why is my startup.txt continually being modified and cleared?
Any info appreciated.
Thx.
Jon
I have the same Problem...
Did you guys search? If I search in the android thread on "0 bytes" I get 20 results. It's a bug of the startup utility. Don't use it or rename startup.txt to default.txt. Maybe putting the startup.txt to read only should work to.
Best option: DON'T USE MGJDROIDUTIL!!!
Also, for you cab peoples - it uses this by default - use haret.exe!!!
i had the same prob. it goes to haret and if u click run it will say it cant find default text. uninstall android. delete all files in andboot folder. reinstall. copy and paste the "startup.txt" file to the same folder. rename it "default.txt" or just "default."
the same thing will happen to the startup.txt but the default.txt will always work. you just have to hit run when it gets to haret.
I had the same issue, the problem only seems to occur when you check/uncheck the Hardware 3D Box.

Dude... it's MGJDroidUtil that's causing the issue. I hear there's an update coming, but for the time being
DON'T USE IT!!!!!!!!!
Sorry I had to get forceful with the text, but it seems some aren't getting the point...
Lol relax, I've learned that the hard way. I just wanted to explain to these guys my side of the symptom and what I notice that seems to have caused the problem. I agree with you though.
I do not even know MGJDroidUtil, but I have the same issue. It happens along side with SD card corruption (file000.chk)

Jesus why can't you just not use the MGJDroidUtil?!? I'm not sure why that's so difficult. If you don't use it, it won't screw up your startup.
I had the same issues. What I did is after installing it go into file explorer and long press haret.exe and add it to programs and set it on your home screen as the link. )
There is a new startup tool, use that. Delete the old one.

I would, just because then you get a better feel of what's really happening. I installed the cab for the first time last night... that thing is an atrocity.
At any rate, MGJDroidUtil was also updated, so you should be safe using it again - assuming you're using the newly updated version that is.
hi there i got the new build 28-9 and i got the problem when i want to boot it...its says storagecard/andboot directory does not exist...while its exist... someone told me to:
Startup.txt, in the cmdline section. Don't use the startup utility (MGJDroidUtil) if you edit the startup manually tho. It'll blast out whatever you put in there.
but i dont know where the Startup.txt is..in my sd card i been searching but no results and i got a gsm touch pro 2... well maybe i should delete everything again...are these FSCK0000.REC files also from this builds?cuase i didnt delete that..i only deleted the andboot and 100android(dcim) files

Yes, the .rec files are from the build. You can put an entry in your froyo.user.conf that deletes them for you.
Also, you can't find your startup.txt...? How are you running Android, it should be where haret.exe is!
its after you install and load android. after exiting android and returning to winmo, somewhere along the lines startup text gets deleted. for what reason? i know not..
hey atleast it teaches us workarounds lol
ye i know but i could find that file thats why i think it didnt work this time for me
is com.handcent.nextsms-2.9.29 a android file? and EncFiltLog to?
tnx cheers..btw im just gonna install it all over again

Might want to delete everything but your startup.txt, data.img and ts-calibration. Replace everything else from the bundle. Re-download the entire bundle perhaps.

K, if you won't provide more info or be more verbose, I can't help you any further.
Seriously. If starting from square one doesn't fix the problem, there's no square 0. Format the card, start completely over - doesn't work? Then I don't know how it was ever working .
