Dropped my Artemis - P3300, MDA Compact III General

Damn alcohol I hate you!! [shakes fist at the air]. Anyway, I dropped my Artemis and pretty much FUBARed its fascia so it's now all scratched and looks horrible (device seems fine though
Do fascia replacements exist for these devices and if so, can someone please point me to where I can buy one in EU.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
Thx

I am usually the last person on earth to recommend something as aftermarket as this - but the silicone cases on ebay look to be the closest fix out there right now. And if you are susceptible to getting so intoxicated you will drop your phone again, this thing might just save its life next time.

Same problem with dropped fone...
Astro:
I dropped my P3300 as well, scuffed up the facia of the housing and have two big scars on my handset. I was really not liking that at all so I decided to contact HTC America to send it in for repairs at my cost to replace the housing.
Well, after two weeks of evaluation and one week of shipping, NO DICE. My Artemis is still scuffed up and I am out 20bux for return shipping. I have emailed HTC back to complain but it looks like that avenue will come to no avail.
Time to find the pantone colour for the HTC branded device and try to touchup paint the housing myself, definitely will decrease my resale value in the future.
Let me know if you have luck finding a solution to replace the housing.

Good News!
I found what you guys are looking for...

lol, I wasn't really that intoxicated, but because I am lazy and take then phone out of the pouch while attached to my belt (instead of taking the puch on my hand, then the phone out) it's very prompt to slip... I knew it'd happen one day.
I was rather tipsy and distracted looking at something when "swishhh off my hand onto floor... face down sliding 3-4 meter on hard rough road" Nice

I was joking with ya If could have back half of the things I broke while drinking..., check out the link I found...2 posts up. I don't think it will work for an Orbit (Or willll it....hmmmm) but it seems to be the complete package.
I wonder if one could change over the insides of an Orbit to make it look like a 3300.....interesting...

Thanks for the link. I changed out many motorola housings in the VXXX series handsets but never a smartphone. This is exactly what I am looking for. Now the search is one for instructions for the change over!
It is an interesting idea to try and put another 3300 device into the HTC branded housing.
Great!

will the TP2 have the same paint peeling issues like the original TP ??

not sure if this is the correct place to post, but i've been thinking about this for a long time
will the TP2 have paint peeling issues like the original TP did ?? i recall my friend telling me several months ago that the paint from the corners and sides started peeling after 2 weeks of usage, which is kinda ridiculous IMO. for those of you who've used both phones, based on the (i'm assuming new) texture/coating of the TP2, will the problem return ?? i'd check myself but i've no basis for comparison as nobody around me currently owns the original TP..
my phone's a week old and right now i'm just using the leather holster that came with the phone but if this is going to be an issue i'm probably going to have to get something more...
TIA for your input!
anybody ???
The screen half is metal so that ought to be fine. Any problems with the back you can just buy a new one, they cost less than most holsters.
I never had any paint peeling issues with the TP.

i'm actually worried how it will look like after a few months. anybody who's got an xbox 360 pro would probably know what i mean with the drive tray. looks kinda blotchy after a few months. and its not like i touch it or anything, it get that way from just being there...

How to force hardware failure?

Is there a way to cause a hardware problem of some sort so I could use my warranty and get my phone exchanged?
Put it in a microwave oven for a couple of seconds??
With respect, if you want to exchange your device, isn't it because of hardware failure? If it's software, shouldn't a hard reset fix your problems?
Well, it's because of a few cosmetic scratches (as well as one on the screen) that I want the phone exchanged because I've finally ordered a case and screen protectors. Except... they didn't arrive before I dropped the phone ;_;
a 9V battery across the battery terminals probably isn't healthy for the phone...

I might suggest taking a hammer to the interface between your keyboard and chair.
I know that if you ruin the top right pin on the USB port the phone won't charge anymore. I'd say that warrants a warranty. Don't you have to pay like $70 now to get a replacement, or are you going to wait 2 weeks?
I'm remembering that everyone was griping about the cost of the TP2 when it was first available... and now you want to exchange a fully working phone???
stop causing the rest of us to pay higher prices.
Instead of exchanging the phone, why not pay to have the scratched pieces replaced... using your money instead?

Tough luck. But that is not what warranty protects it from. Had you wanted protection from that sort of accident you should have bought the plan through your cell phone provider. Falsifying hardware failures is not only wrong, it jacks up the price, and increases headaches for people who have ACTUAL warranty issues!
So goodluck with the attempt to wreck your phone, I'll laugh when I read the post about "HELP I MICROWAVED MY PHONE AND HTC WONT WARRANTY IT, HOW CAN I FIX IT?!?!?!"
Seriously, wtf.. it's dumbasses like you that cause this phone to be $600 in the first place.
Okay, this is a "sure fire" way of causing a hardware failure. You have to follow these steps in order or it will not work.
1. Find a high-voltage source. This may be your local hydro-electric transmission tower or the third-rail in any subway system.
2. Hold phone in one hand.
3. Use other hand to touch the high-voltage source.
And after some smoke and mirrors, your family/people in your last will and testament will be forever thankful for the new phone.
I am SO determined my new phone would stay looking new as long as possible that I've had my BNIB TP2 sat in it's box for 5 days now, waiting for the invisiSHIELD full bodykit to arrive from the USA - which arrived today! \o/ ... and it turned out I'd ordered the wrong one! /o\
... so now I have to wait another 10 days awaiting the correct version... *sighs*
However, I really REALLY want this phone to STAY looking as good as new, so I wait & carry on using my Kaiser in the meantime... by the time the new kit arrives hopefully WinMo 6.5 will be out too so it's no biggie waiting 10 days: I expect to get 2+ years out of it after all.
Joe
P.S. I've taken it out 3 time so far & stroked it *sob* then carefully put it back in it's little plastic bag. Soon My Preshusss..... soon.....

Understood his dilemma. The phone is expensive, and I would like it to stay as new as possible. Until now, I still don;t care to use a cloth to wipe the screen, even thou i had screen protector on it. sigh

I've taken, my phone, and put it in the engine compartment of my car with a sparkplug wire off, and let, the voltage from the coil, nearly 50,000 volts, arc through the phone with nothing.
as for putting it in the microwave, the first thing to go, will be htte LCD display, and the thin touch film over it, and I'm sure broken screens are not covered..... also tried
just take, a very small screw driver or a tweezer, and scrap off a diode, or resistor, or whatever
I'm sure rectal insertion would kill it.
its been my experience with WM phones & TmoUS that if you tell them there's a problem & that it continues to persist even after a Hard Reset, they'll warranty exchange it. So... just makes something up... I doubt they actually try to verify all claims.
if your doing it over the phone
Just keep telling them that the phone stops when it says t-mobile or whatever
, yes them with all there directions for hard resets, and keep telling them it freezes,at the boot up, they'll swap it
A pristine phone is not what makes you cool, hth.
Well, within 6 months there is a new phone out that I lust after so I want an excuse/justification to get the new one. That's a good reason to let it deteriorate quickly.
Leo here I come

Cosmetic damage. Please advise.

Hi all,
Recently I dropped my beloved phone and now there's an unsightly dent in the corner and the silver border (euro version) is really badly scuffed. It still works though.
But I like my devices pristine so I can't stand to look at it now!
Tbf I can still get £150 for from one of those phone trade in companies.
And can sell an old e71 for just under 100, which can go towards a new different handset.
Or is it at all possible to refurbish anywhere and then attempt a higher sale? I'd rather not wait weeks/months though.
Please offer any advice.
Thank you.
Ibelieve you can buy replacement screen/front cover. I seen a couple posts with links to ebay for them.
Wow, what would you do if your girlfriend had a zit?

I'm not sure if thats the damaged part, but that is what I was talking about.
mines got the same thing, dent/scratch in the top right corner, but it just adds character
i know if i fix it, i'll just go out and drop it again.
Maybe you could just put a case over it to hide it and protect it from future damage?

Stupidly i did the opposite. As soon as i dropped my phone i was in such a piss poor mood i just put it in my jeans pocket. I was cursing the stoopid fiddly case!
So aswell as the corner dent, the silvery bit started to peel away. Funnily, every other part of the phone is still in perfect condition.
I doubt any personal buyer would be interested so i think im just gonna give it to Envirophone or other.
Better than other situations where i could've lost it or internally detsroyed..

You might be surprised!! Put a post up in the marketplace section, you might just find an interested party
Why not get another one and save this one for parts. That way when you drop the new one and scratch the back cover you can already have a replacement.

Aria Screen/ Digitizer

It's a new record for me... I had my new Aria/Liberty/Intruder all set up and inside of three days dropped and T-boned the screen
Anyone have ideas on where to find parts for a Aria? I understand HTC is notoriously slow about releasing aftermarket parts. The repair guy I took my phone to encouraged me to help him find the part.
Many thanks-

I used to order all my blackberry parts from here. Very good reveiws. There across the seas but shipping is usually quick and even faster if you bump it up.http://cnn.cn/shop/htc-aria-c-277_1068.html
Thanks Kudvu002! You saved the day!
I found one on ebay, but the shipping's not as quick.
Have you tried taking it apart yet? I'm trying to get a little insight on the disassembly. It seems like you can pop off the top yellow cover but I wasn't able to get it off and didn't want to force it.
anyone knows where to buy the digitizer for the Aria? cnn.cn shows the digitizer in stock,, but when you go to checkout it says it is not....
Ordered mine about a week ago but it says it was shipped, now I just gotta get it apart!

digitizer replaced
So I followed the tutorial found on android forums, it was relatively easy, i forgot to take pictures of the steps but i can write a tutorial if anyone wants it, because the tutorial on A.F. is a little vague. But I have found a solution to the cracked screen problem, I went to Best Buy to see if they had the Zagg shield (which they do, it's for the Intruder/Aria/Liberty) but they also had a new case which looks a little more resilient against dropping. The case is made by Superior Communications (BB item number 35307BBR) and is pretty rugged looking, anyways let me know if you want a tutorial written up, i will try to get some pics to do it with.
so I'm about to replace mine.. any tutorial with pics available?

Yes they are.. and they are not original part... there are some differences... and after the installation you will have the light that turns on the -home- menu-back-search buttons to filter into the screen. I finished up adding the insurance and getting a brand new for $50.00 and sold the old one for 200

I can have a tutorial up by tomorrow, unfortunately with pics of the full install but close enough to get you there. The screen I bought was an HTC oem screen and ATT branded, there aren't any that aren't branded so far. Lemme get the tutorial together and ill post it tomorrow.

I've seen this phone shown off a few times withut the AT&T branding and with just the HTC logo at the top/middle and would prefer that digitizer.
(and no I wasn't mistaking the HD Mini for the Aria lol) Wonder how long before those are available. Probably will have to wait until another carrier gets the phone IF anyone else decides to even pick it up.
The button light issue is quite a drag tho. Sucks. You could try to add some sort of tiny strip above the capacitive buttons area to shield the light from leaking into the viewable screen area.
here is a good video showing a Disassembly of the phone, it might help.

ok, to anyone who tries this BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU PULL THE RIBBON OUT
I pulled too hard and like an asshole I broke the "plug" piece off of the ribbon and it's stuck in the "socket"
looks like it's time to try and scam AT&T again

EVO original shell pieces

With the release of the Best Buy exclusive White Evo.... I'm feeling kinda bummed since I just bought mine 2 weeks ago...
Does anybody know where to find original/oem/factory shell pieces, particularly the rear bezel and the battery compartment cover. I want to repaint them white or if possible, the white versions of said pieces.
Also information might be useful to DIYers?

Pretty sure its just a white battery cover on the white ones. Which you will be able to purchase.
its more than just the battery cover.
The white 4G as far as I can tell has 2 different pieces from the original black, consisting of the battery cover and the outer rear bezel. The rubberized matte sections essentially.
The battery cover is one piece, lower frame is second piece, just the shell though, transplanting the wiring, subframes, and kickstand should be relatively easy going by the teardown images on ifixit.
I wonder if you can get the battery cover and the rear half of the phone. The back half is what houses the camera lens as well as the kickstand, so having a replacement would be nice.
I wouldn't mind another battery cover if anyone finds how where to get them. I'm sure Sprint repair stores will eventually get them in, but no idea how long that is going to take.
One to mess up, perhaps put a logo on, or the disc from those low profile car mounts, would be nice to have. They're quick and easy to pop on/off too, and it's only a matter of time before that wears out given that I replace my batteries rather than recharge them in my phone.
Edit:
I emailed HTC, lets see if they respond..
I got a response, here it is:

Found them on ebay listed as "OEM Housing"... Might order one or two and try to see how they hold up being sanded and repainted.
I found an OEM battery cover on ebay, but they want $30 for it. A little steep in my opinion.

I also found the OEM back chassis and battery cover.

Doesn't look like it includes a new lens cover, so the lens cover may be built into the camera. That means no replacing it.
In the second listing they illustrate that it's from Samsung, so they are the actual OEM and HTC purchased the parts/phone from them. I wonder if we'll have better luck purchasing from Samsung or an authorized reseller..

Close but the branding is different. No HTC on the back cover and it says "with Google" instead of "Sprint 4G" near the bottom.
No big deal I just wonder if these are real OEM parts or if they are about to get ripped for copyright infringement...

Yeah, the first one says it's OEM and from Samsung, the second just says that it's "HTC EVO Compatible" so it's not OEM, and probably a knockoff. Especially since he's in China. We should start seeing them cheaper soon then.

Notably, I've found a few wholesale retailers for back housings that have the HTC logo on it but no chrome badging, this is perfectly flat however which means to me, an easier painting process.
Personally I don't care
I just dropped my brand new EVO today, ON THE CONCRETE!!!!!!!!
Well, the only portion that took damage externally, to my knowledge in other words, is the front bevel. I really do not like the blemishes so I went ahead and paid for the $55 set. There was a cheaper $40 option but I didn't see that till after purchasing the $55 set. If everything is legit, considering not just getting the parts I want to replace but also some of the tools needed to do the job, $55 was ok with me.
I'll keep you guys updated. Should be here next week or two. We'll see.
