WM6 Running on HTC!

Has anyone figured it out? What would it take to get WM6 running on our HTC's? Is it just a mater of getting the OS from Microsoft and upgrade or is it a custom rom specifically made for our Hermes?

The title of this thread is VERY misleading. I was almost excited!

There is a photo on the official WM6 page from Microsoft with Crossbow running on what looks to be a Tytn.

Here is an article with a couple videos of Windows Mobile 6. One video shows Windows Mobile 6 in action and the other shows different devices with Windows Mobile 6 installed. Three of the devices are from HTC. They highlight a HTC Typhoon, a HTC Excalibur, and what looks like an HTC Herald. I just hope that the Windows Mobile 6 version has 3G.

lol So i see i got all of your attention, i guess its misleading because there's no "?" at the end and thats the whole point of my topic
But the fact of the matter is still not answered, i know there's lots of topics on WM6 but nothing as far as our Hermes so now that i got your attention can we put our head together and figure something out because if we wait for HTC to come up with something our phones most likely die out before we can get anything out of them.....

Be careful what you wish for. My old Dell Axim X50v came with Windows Mobile 2003SE on it.. everybody clammored for WM5 once it came out. Once we got the upgrade, it was a terrible upgrade with the MS BT stack, and a bunch of apps that previously worked, that now didn't... a LOT of the aximsite members went back to 2003SE.
By the way, the stickied thread about cooked ROMs has a large amount of discussion about WM6 (crossbow) already.

I just watched the whole video and i was drooling over my screen That is in fact an HTC so the title is not misleading after all

Bimboy i am aware of the x50's and those upgrades, i owned one before i got the x51v and i am a member of aximsite as well but if you did some reading in to that x50 problem you would have noticed that they cant compare the x50 upgrade to WM5 as what would it take to update the x51v to WM6 as is not the same comparison and OS systems.... and WM5 is not much different then WM6 as what Mobile 2003 was to WM5.....
Also in the end read on how many guys are still enjoying their x50's with WM5 on them as well...So i think the HTC is very likely able to handled WM6 in the end.

Windows Mobile 6

I bought an unlocked HTC branded TyTN. It is a great device. It runs Window Mobile 5. I see possibilities from wireless carriers of an upgrade to WM6. Has anyone heard about an upgrade for those in my situation? I would love to get rid of the small bugs and have the new WM6 functionalities.
I have heard all of the ROMs had to be removed. Are there any (legal) prospects of being able to upgrade to WM6 for any Hermes variant?

Wow I got in at #1 on the useless post

The screen capture utility incorporated in 1.2 blew monkey nuts, so I installed vSnap. Comes with a timer, and very user-friendly interface. Everything else is great in 1.2 so I'm wondering if upgrading to 2.0 is really necessary right now. I started desgining a Wisbar theme to go with this ROM, so hopefully I can work on it as long as I can convince myself to hold off on 2.0 for a few days.

I posted similar feelings months ago on the Wizard Forums with no real response.
I mean, nothing personal folks, but who really cares that you're looking forward to this release or that release and your download is at 39 percent and you're just so happy and your daughter's been asked to the prom and your step-on dawg just had puppies...
I have noticed that there seems to be a smarter and somewhat nicer class of folks here than on the Wizard forums but then agian I just got here a while ago and am still reading the WIKI here and doing my best not to ask stupid questions as the majority of my posts have been answering the same elsewhere.
As an aside.... kudos to all the chefs here! I really love my Hermes and am looking forward to contributing my two cents worth here.

My post count doesn't reflect the research that I've put in here, but geezus, the questions that come out.....
One of my favorites was the guy who asked about his i-Mate SPL in the Hermes forum.
Word of advice to all posters: Think before you post. Your intelligence quotient (IQ for short) depends on it.

I agree with Eagle 1, it is difficult to browse through 30pages, looking for the possible solution with certain issues.... this thread is more like it...

I flashed and the sucker's working nicely.
I had the initial cert error, but when I connected to my WMDC (Vista) and established a partnership, the cert issue disappeared. (cert was expired message).
WiFI works awesome. Will probably patch on the bubble fix.
Only complaint is Comm Manager not black. Not really a complaint. Really glad it isn't lime green anymore.
Excellent work, JJ. Who knows, Black may be the one and only.

walshieau is working on it at the moment, and if he gets it done we we release a cab.

Upgraded and it works well. My only question is whether anyone (on Telstra) has been able to get Foxtel/AFL etc working on this build? I know they recently released a ROM upgrade for WM5 but any luck with WM6 and Black V2.0?

Nice to have a stable WM 6.0 again (had XBow beta & RTM for a bit, till M$ took back their Wizard.... it's come a long way since then)
Also got VC 1.6 working with the "Jules" CAB.
Starting to load other shat on it, but staying away from Resco (not SuperCID, had issues with certs)

It is unclear whether your device is bricked or you can not upgrade it, please provide more details.
If your device is bricked (you can not boot to windows, you have no GSM error, you are stuck in tri-color screen(red, green, blue)) Pof runs a thread on bricked Hermes here. I suggest you ask here instead of WM6 forum. He has also posted how to unbrick most cases of bricking here. However I suggest you read the dead hermes? corrupted radio? Post comments here (first link I gave you) first. Good luck with your problem!

i would have shot em down n thworn hand grenades until the person was not only flamed but completely disentegrated...

Well I am (senior) n00b myself, I just read before asking and my english is on average level. But that does not give me right to flame somebody right away. Maybe after some time I will change to flame thrower too

I have been meaning to visit for a long time but the movie HOSTEL made me think twice.

I bricked mine for the first time the other day trying to put on my own splashscreen (boring original T-Mobile ones ;-) and it was sticking at the Tri-colour screen as well.
So, after 5 seconds of panic, I calmly re-flashed the 1.40 radio and it returned to normal service (after which I, vicariously, some would say) tried my splashscreen flash and that worked OK too
Panic not. Breathe. Flash Radio ROM. Breathe.
It'll probably then be OK

You can stay cool we only torture US tourists.... Women in that movie were Slovak (to get a picture..), beer is better here, than in Australia I think (if you like lagers - Budweiser (original Czech one), Pilsner would be your nirvana). Btw. movie was shot in Czech Republic - not even a square inch of Slovakia in it Hostel is IMO pretty weak movie, definitely there are many better horror movies out there (I personaly like the Grudge).

No official wm6 for the Trinity

You don't need a ROM from HTC. You can load the Dopod ROM to your device when it is released. If you need a French ROM, I'm sure that someone here will make one from the original Dopod D810 WM6 ROM.

i have an official email from Dopod Australia saying that they will be releasing a WM6 gps version soon (in the next couple of months).

Not quite the same getting your ROM from a company that re-badges these devices. I for one am way too lazy to change everything (boot splash etc) in the upcoming Dopod release to make it exactly like HTC.
I think a boycott of HTC phones is way overdue. Eten anyone?

Whilst I sympathise with you - judging by recent reviews I think you should be careful what you wish for...

it has been months. dopod aus never got the wm5 gps rom. i don't know why they are taking so long... probably because customer support doesn't make them money. even o2 was faster in releasing wm6 to atom life (and the support is crap, i've had 2 o2's)
by the time they release wm6 with gps rom, the d810, wm6 and even maybe gps will be obsolete, and we will all have a new device.

I know, but then... that's even more a reason to release it if one of your children companies is about to beat you to it.
Call me picky, but I want all the ROM version information/splash/logos etc all to be HTC.
HTC seems to have some automated response for my questions, even if you ask WHY the trinity ain't on the list of phones expecting an update, they send a link to the press release.
Growing a little tired of HTC lately, they're even removing the infrared port from their trinity-successor, Kaiser. What will I do with my $40 worth of TV remote software? Damn it!

I doubt if Kaiser will be released shortly - It has a Qualcomm chip in it, see http://www.boygeniusreport.com/gallery/handsets/htc-kaiser-unboxing/?pid=668#picture_nav
The US ITC has banned imports on phones with Qualcom chip with immediate effect. See http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/08/business/08phone-web.html
