How to extract the nb files from a cooked / shipped Rom with exe extension file name. Which tools should be use and where can get it?

I tried with WinRAR and it works. You just need to do right click on the exe file and extract it into particular folder on your drive.

When a new ROM is posted whether it be Qtek,I-mate etc is it possible to extract the OS part only? So that I can upgrade the operating system but leave the Radio & Extended ROM untouched??

Yes...Grab hold of WinRAR from http://www.rarlab.com/ for your desktop PC
Once installed, rename the Universal update file .exe to .rar
Now, double click to open the renamed file and it will be displayed in a WinRAR explorer window
Extract all files in \RUU_Tools\Universal\WWE and \OutputFile folders to a single folder on your desktop PC
Now on your desktop PC, delete all files ending in .nbf except nk.nbf
Now run the file named ROMUpgradeUt.exe, and only the OS will be upgraded.
Excellent - I knew it was one of the .nbf files.....

i have a htc Magician with WM2003 and I want to copy the miscres.96.dll file from the windows folder but I can't copy it because it's in the rom? How can i copy this file? Do I have to use a dumped rom? I want to edit the icons of MSN.

You can not just copy files from ROM.
You need to dump the ROM then extract the files. Search this forum for dump tools and instructions.

you are not supposed to extract the contents of the cab file that you downloaded, copy the cab file over to the phone and execute it from the phone

i would like to know if there is a way to extract files out of a nbh file.
i mean i would like to use some software of a rom i do not want to install complete.
i changed to htc p3300 rom for stability.
but i want to use some other software i do not easy find on the internet.
so extract of a modded rom to get cab or setup files would be nice.
Yes! You can extract files from a NBH file with cooking tools.
But is not as easy has it seems.
Look arround for cooking tools and you see that is not has easy has you could think...:d

i just bought HTC Touch HD. I download some app from here but is rar file not cab file. Anyone can teach me how to convert the rar to cab file or not? or teach me how to put the rar to my touch hd. A rar file is like a zip file, so you'll need to extract the cab from within it.
If you don't already have a rar-compatible piece of software on your PC, then WinRar and 7zip are your best bets.
If however you're looking to access the rar file on the phone itself, I'm not sure if that's possible. Sorry.
