Hi,
As I'm sure you can all appreciate, I'm new to this and I was just wondering the various pros and cons to the XDA Live and Black v3 ROMS...
I've read countless pages on both ROMS but need some clarification on a few things... Which ROM is the most complete... as in which version has the most working software, I noticed some imporant features for both seem to have problems...
Black needs a bluetooth patch to work properly and Live doesnt have voice calling?!
So which is the most advanced out of the two?
i think is Black v3
dude, this is the SECOND thread you have made for complete n00b questions.
please READ, READ, READ first
when you are read to ask a question, SEARCH SEARCH SEARCH first
every ROM has its pros and cons, there is no "perfect" rom and there is no "imperfect" roms. read the wiki and you can learn without being lazy and starting new (and useless) threads.
black v3.1 is the newest build "released", but the best advice is to try either (or both) over afew days to see if they work for you.
Before you do though, please read Mr Vanx guide to upgrading, so that you don't brick your device.
Good luck & happy flashing.

I have to second this comment. While it's nice to have, don't try to get that "perfect" ROM. Read, read, read. We all do, no-one can claim his/her time is worth more than others because you have no idea who else is on the forum. If you think this is time consuming and want to help others, summarize them and update the WIKI!
If your goal is simply trying to get Hermes to be a productive machine, read the wiki, guide, thread. List down the pros/cons, select the one on top that fits your criteria, make your informed decision and move on.
If it meets most of your need, stick with it. If not, go to the next one.

hi
I tried looking around and really couldnt find any information for n00bs to help them cook there own roms.
could someone please advise me where this information is available or if someone can do a breif guide on what to do and how?
dont meen to ask TOO much but its really been buggin me.
Your pretty much going to have to read and search...
I have been trying to make my own for awhile and no luck until a couple nights ago I finally got something "cooking".
I found I ended up using two or three different programs to cook with since they all seem to do a little different.
Sorry I can't personally be of more help but you are going to have to search and read since no one will probably take the time to make it "super easy".
Bhups,
Start with the wiki. There are now a number of ROM kitchens that make cooking "relatively easy" to where we were a few months ago.
My suggestion would be to find the threads in the Development & Hacking forum and simply read through them to build up your knowledge base. This will take some time so be prepared.

Ummm ... you asked this very same question in this thread, and were given an answer (by me)
Why start a new thread with this, instead of reading answers to your last post on the issue?

Search the Wizard thread for Faria's Kitchen, it has lots of information about cooking a ROM. Just remember that most of things might be the same for Hermes, but you cant put a wizard ROM on hermes and vice versa. Good luck, keep searching and reading. Follow the link in my signature as needed.
cheers all...
pvs - i'm sorry, I think I missed that thread.
Been so fustrated tring to find places for tutorials I forgot what I posted where.
I thougt someone may have a dummies way of cookin roms ready so they can post it as a reply on a new topic and it can be eaiser for others to find this solution.
It obviously now seems like there is ALOT of reading to do on this, and in multiple places.
okidoki peeps..
me off to it.
Thanks again to all!
i was installing a rom and i had some error.
Now i couldnt install any rom.
what i should to do?
please someone help me :/
look
look around the forum for threads about this problem. and it would help if you knew your error so you could search for that particular one.
The first thing you should do is to learn how to take notes so that you can provide information for others to try to help you. I would NOT attempt flashing any more roms until you have mastered that first step. Please understand that your installation of some unknown rom, and then receiving some sort of error message probably isn't going to get many meaningful answers from forum members.
The second thing you should do is read the wiki, and the rules of posting on these forums. The rules will point out the necessity of providing details, as noted in the first step, above. The wiki might explain things you needed to watch out for before you took your first steps to upgrade (maybe too late for them now, but who knows?).
Anyway, good luck with your dilemma. Hopefully, somebody who's got a working crystal ball will be able to provide some further assistance.

Also, dont install roms with vista. It works for some and not for others.
I have used Vista to flash ROMs all the time and never have any problems.

You my friend, are in the SOME category. Congrats!!
YOU WIN THE GRAND PRIZE OF BEING AWESOME!!
lol winner
I have been looking through this forum and havent come across exactly how to install a new ROM on my t-mo dash... So I am sorry if these are dumb questions... But I do have a touch pro 2 and they explained to me how to install a new ROM on it. Is it the same concept for the Dash? Do I have to flash it with an SPL? If someone could explain all this to me it would be appreciated, or if you could direct me to a part of the forum that will assist me. I want to change the ROM on my dash for practice before I do my TP2...
I'll explain the forum has a sticky & the top take your time to read........... Does say read before posting so as to stop ?'s that are already answered........
The choice if HSPL is yours most people don't but is available in sticky, the noobs guide to flashing is there too.
Good luck.

I couldn't have said it better myself
i download sense rom but i cant upgrdae in my diamond, hepl please how can i do it
Try to read the wiki-pages and the sticky threads on top of this sub-forum to learn how to upgrade your ROM.
Make sure you understand the steps clearly otherwise you may brick you phone.
People should look and search for the answers by themselves first (because most of the questions had been asked before many times), that's the reason nobody bother to answer you ...
Good luck!
BTW, it is also not good to open new threads for the same questions:

MOD EDIT: BEFORE POSTING ANY THREAD IN THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:
If you have developed a ROM, or are working with others to do so, the development forum is somewhere to discuss and share ideas, post useful feedback and logs or crash dumps, and to discuss a common goal developers are trying to achieve.
It is NOT the place to post your question because it gets higher traffic, or because more experienced users frequent it. Doing this just annoys those who are working on the device, and drives them away. Developers don't want to wade through 20 threads of "Help me urgently" to find their threads for porting and fixing camera issues etc. Similarly, if a thread is designated as discussion for developers say, porting a camera fix, please do not post in there asking "When will it be ready?", "Can I flash this yet?" etc. This is both completely disrespectful to those working on the project (you evidently haven't read the important posts in the thread), and also is making it harder for developers to find comments from other developers or testers when required.
Similarly, don't make loads of "Thanks for your work here" posts in an active development thread. It's just as annoying to developers as asking when something will be ready. If a ROM is complete, then go ahead and thank the developer if you wish, but don't go into threads for devs only, and interrupt it to post "thanks". It's basically spamming, and is treated as such.
If you are posting in development, you should have read every sticky and notice there, and should be actively developing or helping in the development of something. Developing isn't installing a ROM, or using a tweak, it's creating a ROM or other hack or tweak. If you haven't read for several days before starting out on XDA, you are likely about to ask something already solved. I registered on XDA when I first wanted to post, and that was to join in a discussion on something. Sure, join up and ask a question, but read the information available in General and Q&A first, as your question will have been asked before. Search is your friend here, become familiar with it.
Regarding when to post in development if you are not actually developing something, there is one occasion where it's acceptable. If you find a leak of a new ROM, which isn't already posted, and you verify it's legitimacy via either running it, or based on the source you obtained it from, then this is assisting in development, and should be posted in development. If you want to ask when a leak will be available use search first, then if not already in discussion, open a thread in general or Q&A.
If you have a problem flashing a ROM, this is NOT related to development. It's up to you to determine if it is specific to a particular ROM, and post useful information in that developer's existing thread for the ROM. If it happens on more than one ROM, and isn't a known issue (remember you should read several times more words than you post), then find out what you are doing wrong. Check guides written by others, try to repeat the problem and see if it happens every time. Something needs to be reproducible to be fixed effectively.
Once you have identified what you need help with go to the device Q&A forum (general if device lacks one), and make a clear, informative thread that explains the issue, and what you have tried doing to fix it. Did you re-download the ROM? Did you ask a friend to flash it for you, to reduce chance of user error? What steps (exactly) did you follow? What errors did you see (exact wording)? Did you double check all the steps? Did you do a wipe or hard reset?
If you make a clear, concise, yet detailed post, you will find help forthcoming, and should get the problem sorted very quickly. If someone suggests you try something, report back on what happened, did it work etc. Then, next time someone has this issue and searches, they will find this and have a verified and tested solution.
So remember... before you start a thread in development, ask yourself what you are developing. If you can't answer, then stop, step away from the post button, and think about where you are posting. Would it be better in General or Q&A, or is some more time with your best friend, search, required?
