Hi!
I have a Dell Axim x50v (VGA device) running WM5 AKU 2.3, and would really want to have HTML support for email, since WM5 email client doesn't support it. I don't want to download any extra third-party application like Flexmail, but rather would like to know if there is some kind of a plugin for this native email client that allows HTML support.... I heard of WM6 and it's richer email client. Is there any way you can install WM6 email client on a windows mobile 5 device like mine? If not, is there any WM6 ROM that will work on my PDA? (Other things like viewing Internet Explorer Mobile in high resolution mode, or the new "calendar ribbon" would also be a worthy upgrade.)
.... There is a very slight chance that Dell will release an official WM6 upgrade considering how old my model is.... (it came out in 2004, being replaced by x51 models in late 2005).
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
For what I have read, you are basically out of luck.
You can't rip the email client out of WM6 since it seems to be very much incorporated within the OS. If you want to enjoy the WM6 email client you have to upgrade.
As far as if there is a WM6 I am not sure and since you have reached a HTC forum, well, have you tried a Dell site?

Quoted for the truth.
Outlook (PIM) depends on Shell, Shell depends on Coredll, Coredll depends on kernel. Bummer.
Like I said, there is no chance that Dell will be releasing WM6 upgrade for its handhelds, so visiting "aximsite" wasn't very usefull for me right now.
When you guys mentioned that the WM6 email client is very much incorporated with the OS, does the same apply with the Internet Explorer Mobile that now supports high resolution, or the Microsoft "MarketPlace"?
Is there at least a third-party HTML support plugin for the native email client, or is Flexmail the only solution for viewing HTML-formatted emails? (I would really prefer a "free" third-party application.)

Try Qmail IMHO the best email program and what is more important free
http://q3.snak.org/download/ take most up to date compilation from Nightly build section and don't be afraid about japanese page Qmail is in english! At the bottom of download page you'll find openssl extension for secure connections.
I can't properly download this "Qmail" program. If I want to download and install it through activesync by first of all extracting the zip file from the nightly build and then running the exe file, it eventually says "not a valid Win32 application" or something like that. In fact, i can't stand that official japanese website, cause i get that same message for anything i try to download from there.
Actually, i got a chance to see how Qmail works (looks pretty nice - it supports HTML, right?), but not necessary to use it. Instead of running it on a PC, i copied right away that zip file to my device, and installed Total Commander on my PPC. However, I had to extract each component for Qmail separately using the Total Commander. Really a disasterous download, if not even. It ended up opening the program, but never really saving it anywhere on my device. After a quick soft reset, there is no more trace of it.
So, SERIOUSLY, does anyone have an alternate cab or exe file of the latest nightly build for Qmail v3 that actually works, not links to that japanese website?
I think you don't get the idea of inslalling it it's not self installing program! unpack it on your desktop than move whole folder with all files (all dlls and q3u.exe) to some folder on your ppc, probably the best is storage card. You can copy files that way by opening activesync and than klicking on explore button there will be your ppc just like any other folder in normal desktop pc. Copy whole qmail folder to it and thats it, you can start qmail using totalcommander on ppc or later create some shortcut to program on today or in programs.
here is packed folder "Qmail" with all needed files unpack it on your desktop and copy unpacked folder with files to your ppc using activesync explore button! Sorry but I can't write it more simply This one works on my ppc as all other versions did!
http://przemek.nekla.pl/Qmail.rar
and one more thing here you can read somthing more about qmail and the power of this program! also how to set it up

Nice!!! I finally got Qmail installed on my device. Seems like it can do a lot more than just let you view HTML-formatted email. So, how well does it compete with the native WM6 email client?
Ohh, you guys never answered me about WM6 Internet Explorer. I find that IE that comes with WM5 takes very long time to open pages, or at least - fairly slow. (Doesn't work very well in the morning when you are in a rush, and don't want to wait for your PC to start up, and whenever it's ready to connect to the internet). Many WM6 reviews say that the WM6 IE is quite faster, supports AJAX, and especially more stable. (Don't know how to explain it to you, but when scrolling too fast the web pages, especially in landscape mode, at one point all the graphics and program icons become as if shattered with black, grey, green, red, ... lines -the images corrupted, that requires soft reset.) Not sure if this is an error, or if WM6 fixes it. That's why I was thinking of overwriting my current IEMobile with the Internet Explorer that comes with WM6. Or is it hard-coded, as well as WM6 email client, into the OS?
One last question. (sorry, if I'm bothering you guys too much.) Everyone knows that IEMobile of any kind does not allow multiple tabs. And i really would have preffered some kind of a plug-in, not a separate web browser, that allows it. I tried PIEPlus, but it also adds way too many features that I don't even need (i need a browser plugin that handles it as simple as possible) that only wastes more memory, and i think, slows down the IE even more. Any idea???
Ok, I know I was asking above lots of things. So, to make it easier:
1)Does anyone know how i can speed up my internet explorer mobile?,
2)And how i can fix that occasional screen error that occurs while browsing the internet that messes up my whole PDA?
So, um, can somebody help me?
Hello! Is anyone out there?
I was wondering if anyone has been able to use the Gmail java app on WM 6.1 on the excalibur? When I try to log in after I run it, there is some error, the applet closes and I get the message "This file cannot be viewed on this device".
Any ideas? I tried to install a newer Jbed+opera mini+gmail pack yesterday from one of the other forums, but it didn't work very well and had display problems compared to the Jbed version included in the 6.1 roms. Are the newer esmertec jbed versions better? I found several 2008 revisions on the forums, but can't tell if theyre for smartphone or just for WM pro.
Thanks in advance!
Why not just add your gmail account to your phone and skip the java app? It's unnecessary.
I have the same problem. Luckily Opera Mini works fine.

Have to agree, unless you mean using the gmail layout as homepage, to which i don't think works on Mobile devices?
I have been using gmail with the phone's built in email system, which has been OK, except that I cant seem to send any emails through gmail's smtp server. I wanted to switch to the java app because one of the local cell phone providers has a cheap unlimited on device browsing option that doesn't work with the phone's email system but apparently does with the java gmail app. Looks like I'm stuck with opera mini then! Thanks!
I would go to your Gmail account and enable IMAP, then use that on the Excalibur's standard email account handler. IMAP is far superior to POP/SMTP especially when you check mail from multiple locations- any deletions (or even marking something read) are passed up to the server so you only manage your emails once.
There are tutorials on Gmail's site that detail getting IMAP enabled, and also how to configure your typical mobile phone to use the IMAP settings. It was easy for me.
I think the gmail java app works by IMAP also. At least that was my experience with gmail mobile on a blackberry.
I am having the same problem as the initial post. has anyone figured this out? please don't tell me to use wm's native email client. I know I can do that. i need to use gmail's java midlet. i have tried installing other midlet managers but they don't work either. is there a way to uninstall the dash's native gui java midlet manager?

look in the Kaiser tread, I do not have a Rhodium just yet (doubts about Rhodium vs Iphone (new one to be launched in july). You can edit a file so that the list is updated, don't know the precious way because i just use the nearest town available)

I know with my sync relations I have to edit them using ActiveSync and mobile device center. You can create fav's on you're phone as well right? test some and see in which folder the sync places them.

all i want to do is add my town is it really that hard with WM
i didnt find it too much of a problem adding my town.
not quite sure i did it that same way, i imported a particular file to my pc, changed the name and accuweather code of a town i wouldnt use and sent it back using total commander. took quite a while to actually find my towns accu code on the internet, but once i did it wasnt too much hassle to do. the town appears as a new selectable in the same way as the others.
followed a guide that i found on here.

Forgot to add the link?
the file you guys are looking for is 2330fc3c_manila
Using Total Commander. copy this file from the \windows directory to a storage card. from the storage card, uncheck the read-only attribute. and then copy it back to the windows folder. then you should be able to use v1.2 of weather database editor to add your town. *dont* use the link someone else provided above. that contained a guide that was intended for the Touch Diamond. which uses a older version of touchflo3d / manila. it will not work on rhodium. this method worked sucessfully on my Xperia. which is using a custom ROM with Rhodium Manilla.

thanks which version of TC do we need
also found this using slq
will this way work ,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3855860
im using ver 2.51 of TC for pocketpc here.
as for the SQL Administrator method. i tried it going back some time ago and it did work, but it was on a earlier cooked ROM and i don't recall what version of manilla it had. it might have been the one from Topaz (Touch Diamond 2) but anyways, imo the directions i listed is easier than using SQL Admin and can vouch it works for the Rhodium manilla.

what i did was gooogled for the total commander .cab downloaded and copied it to the device, looked it up using File Explorer and installed.
you can download the .cab file here - http://ghisler.fileburst.com/ce/tcmdpocketarm.cab
anyway, time i went and got ready for work. let me know how you go and i'll check back when i get home.
did as you said but the file already has read only unticked
has anyone managed to mod the weather locations on the TP2 if so how did you do it?
thanks for any help
since getting my TP2 I haven't really changed any settings - mainly because I'm totally clueless about installing new applications and stuff.
I was just wondering what suggestions people would have for a new TP2 user who wishes to get the most out of his new toy?!
I would like to watch films on it, play games on it and listen to music on it. I have heard that coreplayer is good for watching movies but dunno how to go about installing it?! (thats how useless I am!).
Is there a central resource that i should be going to to find applications that are compatible with the TP2, and does anyone have any suggestions for decent applications that I should install, that are recommended and people feel improve the phone?
Also, from what I can tell, I cant just download and install a theme and pick it from a list on the phone? is this correct?
I'd eventually like to get a decent navigation program and some games installed.
I know this sounds like a pretty random post, but i've been reading some posts on here and am confused by how things are installed, and what a CAB is?!
(I also notice that I cannot get this site to load properly on my phone - it just displays a load of random characters? I am using opera, would IE solve this?)
I have an ipod touch and installing stuff on it via itunes is obviously a breeze, so is it as easy on this phone?
thanks for your time
Q99
It's all on the wiki or other posts around here ...
CAB: Install from the phone. Either mail it to yourself and download it from your mobile mail, use your USB-cable or bluetooth it or whatever.
EXE: Install it from the PC with the phone attached in ActiveSync mode.
For all the programs. Sorry, just read. I don't think anyone is going to make a list for you, Then again, everyone has different opinions ...
I can read the xda-site perfectly on my TP2. Same on my TP btw.
CAB is just an extension. Like a word document is: paper.doc
A program for you mobile can be: game.cab
A cab file is always an installation file. running this file, installs something on your pocket pc. So you have to run the file on your pocketpc.
As explained above, .exe extensions are programs ran in windows.
If you have a USB cradle the easiest way is to connect it with your pc and make a connection between those 2. Opening devicecentre (or something similar in some other language) en the connecting your TP2 to you pc will result in a popup asking if you want to set the synchornisation settings. Doing so is creating a link between your phone and your pc that will be remembered. So next time you connect, your pc recognises you mobile phone. When you have done this you have several options in the device center.
To move CAB files to your pocket pc you click on the explorer icon (bar) and it opens up your TP2's storage. After copying the file you execute it from your phone.
For installing .exe files, you also start windows mobile devicecentre and make sure they are connected. Then you run the installer from your pc. at some point the installation on the pc says it's done. Look at your phone and it asks permission to install this particular piece of software.

No there isn't a App store like the Ipod , which means we don't have to suffer itunes \o/
Look around on here in the Rhodium Themes & apps section, also look in the Blackstone, Topaz and Sony Ericsson X1 sections. Most programs that run on those devices will work on the TP2

It depends which version of the phone you have. The branded versions may take a bit of work but the unbranded ones should be able to use any themes designed for this device/screen resolution

A windows phone is not as easy as an iphone to install stuff, but it is not too difficult, if I can figure it out anyone can! But your TP2 will do more than an iphone and is a better device so its worth persevering with
Hi,
I've been trying for quite a while to get a Java emulator working with android but couldn't. I use my phone mostly for chatting, the app I use is called MXit and you do get an android version but it sucks. Java is much faster, better and more reliable. I've tried several Jbed's and none worked. All force close nearly instantly. I want v5.9.8 specifically, the site is m.mxit.com or www.mxit.com.
System and Data is installed to nand and I'm using the Scoot CyanogenMod 7.1.0 RLS3 (Gingerbread 2.3.5) [07/08/11] build.
I've attached the jar that I'd like to run..
I've tried online converters, no luck.
If someone manages to find a way, I'll appreciate it LOADS.
Thanks,
Monk
Mxit at its best blows, but if you really do need to run mxit, try using an IM application that supports xamp/jabber as a protocol. Mxit uses the protocol and you can use that to chat on mxit instead

Hey,
Uhm, MXit v6 and up sucks at it's best. That's v6 for java, the entire style ain't very good, but the version I have there which is v5.9.8 is actually one of the most efficient mobile IM's that I've found. You can easily manage 7+ fast moving conversations at a time. Since I have a lot to do with chat zones, I need speed in switching places since I can be in 4 rooms at once and still be chatting with a couple of friends at once. The new MXit doesn't support tabs which slows texting down a LOT. And well, that's why I'm looking for a way to run it... Otherwise, I must face my fear and go back to the dreaded WM...
Any idea what IM's I might be able to use? I have Whatsapp and am able to get Ebuddy etc. but which one would be able to do it?
Edit:
I FINALLY got Jbed running.
Steps:
Download Jbed.zip
Download This
Read This
Do what is said, run cmd and enter these commands:
>cd c:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools
>adb.exe
>adb remount
>adb push (where-ever you had it eg. c:\Jbed\system\app\Jbed.apk) /system/app/Jbed.apk ---- and so on with every file and NOTE THE slashes, system dir must be forward.
>adb install (where-ever you have the apk)
And then it worked
Well, nearly. MXit installed, but can't connect to the network, so while its doing its first run, it says "Installing" and then drops out to another screen telling me about connection problems... Gonna try sort this out now.
P.S I will host these files on my own server if it's needed...
Regards,
Monk
I was wondering if you decided to stick to the java version. I installed the android version and it blows the java one out the water. Built in push notifications are just brilliant, you receive message notifications even when not logged in!

LoL, uuuhm, well, since this post I've been to 3 different WM6 roms, because well, I needed MXit and tabs and so on but now, I got fed up with WM again and have gone to Droid again, which is awesome. But yes, I'm now on MXit for Android because well, I'm not that active on MXit anymore. I have a feeling that soon I will be and then I'm gonna be looking for Java emulators again (and probably come read my own instructions here to get it to install ) and then maybe get fed up with no tabs again. Well, whatever I do, I'm never happy with it. I just wish I could have the best of both worlds.....
Yes! Indeed, the statusbar updates and offline msg alerts are AWESOME though. and right now, I have Whatsapp, Ebuddy, PingChat, FacebookChat, and MXit installed on my phone and still attempting to get a ported version of BBM (with very little luck) so yeah. Droid FTW! MXit without tabs FTL! still.
how did you make your mxit work??
my mxit is always crashing just like the jbed and wont even open. what do i do??
