is it possible to set some mp3 tone from the sd card, for sms incoming tone?
The most common way is to make a wav file from the mp3 file and put it in your windows directory.
With the PDAMobiz rom it's also possible to use mp3 files from the storage card.

Hey guys, does anyone know how to set the sms into my own sounds for P3300? I try many times but still do not know how to save the file under which directory.....help please...
you have to change the extension of the file and then should put in windows folder to access that file for sms
Thanks for replying, dude.
What should I change on the extention if it is a MP3 format? And where should I copy to?
Thanks.....
SMS tones need to have a .wav extension if I remember correctly, and placed directly in the windows folder.

Ok, so I have a sound I want to hear when an sms message arrives, and I converted it to *.wav and put it in the Windows directory. How do I replace this sound with the original sms sound?
edit:
I think I already know. Once you've put in the windows folder it automaticly is shown in the list where you can change you ringtone sound, incoming mail sound, etc.
Maybe this is a better way
Just install this application and you have done it

Just transfer the desired files from your PC to your device via ActiveSync. Place the files in the 'My Documents' folder.
Go to Start -> Settings -> Sounds. Then just change your ringtone and SMS message sounds to your newly acquired sounds.
or you can make a folder on your storage card for you ringtones and name it My Ringtones.

Thats what I did and it works like a charm...
for some reason i've never been able to change my sms ringtone to one that i've put in the phone. is there anyway to fix that?
For SMS, ringtones have to be in the Sounds folder. Not in your My ringtones folder.

...which is why I stated to place all tones in the 'My Documents' folder.
...but like mikey said. unless you intend on placing your ringtones (or any tones for that matter) on your SD card. the "\application data\sounds" folder is the best place to put any tones.... whether it be for notifications, ringtones, or sms tones
How do you change "new txt message" sound?
How do you change "new txt message" sound?
Tried moving it to the my documents folder with the ringtones and windows system folder, but the file wasn't recognized. Tried mp3, wav and wma formats.
Like to change the new txt message sound to something else, but not sure how to get it recognized.
thanks.

Just a little bit down the thread.
Found it and uploaded some new sounds. Thanks!
Hi.
I've copied a few small mp3 files to the folder 'ringtones' (which was present in the root folder out of the box). Unfortunately these songs do no appear in the list of ring tones when I choose to change it in the settings.
If I select "add" a list of songs on the phone is displayed, but only those who are stored in the music folder.
I'd rather not have the ring tones stored in the music folder, any suggestions on how to find them when choosing ring tones?
All the mp3-files have worked flawlessly on other android systems (all non ICS).

PS: I've also put a m4a file in the notifications folder. This one shows up as expected under the list of available notification sounds.
Strange, MP3s work fine on my ICS-running Sensation - and I put them in the same folder on my SD card...perhaps they have to be m4a now??
Got it working now.
There was a .nomedia file in that folder avoiding it to get parsed by the music applicaiton on my Desire. I tried to remove it, but that was apparently not sufficient.
I had to connect to the PC, remove all files, disconnect the phone to force update of "sd card" contents, and then connect again to copy back the same files.

Ballache!! But at least we know what to check now! Good find
Install something like Tone Picker.
Dear Members XDA,
I tried to change call ringtones but always fail. I tried to Created Ringtones folder in internal storage and copied my own. .mp3 file and from ringtones settings but always fail. The message is "Unable to set as a ringtones".
Has anyone tried to replace it and succeeded?
I Created Ringtones folder in internal storage and copied my own. .mp3 file and from ringtones settings I was able to set the same ringtone for both sim1 and sim2.
Even I have changed notification tune to some .ogg file (sony xperia notification sounds).
It is working so far.
Setting custom ringtones/notifications works with .mp3 (and .midi) files for me too.
