Creating a TSK with Solid Black Bars in WM6? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Currently I am running Black 2.5, and would like to make my own TSK that is the same as WMBE.tsk except different backgrounds.
I opened WMBE.tsk in WinCE CAB Manager, then only replaced the GIF's with some simple ones I have made with the same name, saved the .tsk as WMBE-new.tsk, installed it on my device, AND I get my simple background with UGLY grey bars in WMBE-new.tsk. But if I load the original WMBE.tsk, I get nice solid black bars.
What is different between the original WMBE.tsk and an exact copy with different GIF's? When I compare the TSK's in CAB Manager, they are the same except for the GIF's. I also compared the complete copies of the registry with both TSK's loaded and the only difference was the name.
Yes, I know there are easier ways to get these images as my background, but I want it in a TSK and with solid black bars.

True, I have other TSK's that give Black Bars, but they do not have the background GIF's I made... just being picky.

Today theme weirdness

I've bought Juni's Black & White theme and I'm having trouble with the Today theme. If I use the .tsk file from the root of the QVGA area it doesn't display, I just get the Windows default background. If I use the non-extended .tsk then the background displays. I've tried some of the other themes from his site (Gnome V2) and they don't display either.
Is this something strange about WM5 or am I doing something wrong?
Some tsk files have extra information for WM5, hence some may work and some may not work, depending on the theme generator used. Not your fault.

Black Glass Bars in WM6??

Alright.. I have been playing with themes once again and thought someone here may be able to answer some questions for me.. Here's what I've got so far..
I have noticed black themes in WM6 acting a bit odd in WM6 (remaining flat without the new WM6 glass effect) Attached image below..
I recently put Tweaks2k2 back on my device and was playing with the WM5 colors.. I placed the slider on Black and boom.. Sweet black bars..
I also went back to the color key in the reg and noticed that nothing had changed.. BaseHue value still remained at 443 = Purple and all other values were still unaffected by all changes. Color or grayscale..
So I guess my question is what values is Tweaks2k2 changing to make these black bars.. I would like to make some new themes..
Any thoughts?
It is obviously a config issue. You can't have some colours glassy and some other not. For example, I had this cool Blue theme. Both top and bottom where glassy, however after upgrading to LVSW's newest ROM all of the sudden the top bar is flat while the bottom one is glossy still.
Damn.
With every WM6 Flavor I've been able to achieve this by changing the hklm\software\microsoft\color\basehue value to 160.
I generally use the Guava Bubbles theme then change the basehue reg key, red background and black glassy bars, I think it looks pretty spiffy.
Hi, I dont know if you seen my thread on the true glossyblack in the reg hermes forum, but I was lookin how to achieve the glossy black.
You say you wanna make some new themes, what theme making software do you have? I have thememakerx nad thememker by mcdeb though Im not able to use them if you're interested, pm me(to Jakaroe808 only).
I haven't a clue what sets the glossy, if you take apart a mono black theme, and read the .ini in it, you should be able to get the values from there on the colors, but I dont know what is settin or removing the glossy, I was thinkin it was a setting in the .ini too for the glossy since some other themes lose the gloss too, but too many work on wm6 with gloss for it to be a setting in the .ini, I think.
Like I said, I haven't a clue, its all speculation, and Im not sure if either of those theme apps will directly modify the theme .ini or read it.
excuse my babbling, I do tend to run on

Edited:: you are correct, I was going by the screenshots, and it looked darker to me, but after instaling tweaks2k2 I see it does just set it to 160.
Maybe Im just overly picky, and it may not even be possible, but there is still a slight gray hue in the middle of the black bar, and it can be seen even more evident when for example one of the black glossy dialers is being used.
Thing is still, is not making it a true true black with the gloss, UItweaker sets em to solid black like the solid black themes have been, and it goes flat too.
Thanks much.. I have not tried using the 160 value but I guess that is all I need to know.. I was just confused because I had the black bars but the basehue value still remained 443.. Thanks..
I also use Thememaker X and then ThemeGenCE along with WinCE CabManager.
I have never used thememaker by mcdeb but it looks like a nice app..
another quick question.. OK the 160 value works although if I load the value into a tsk (manually in Cab manager) it gets rejected.. If I switch to the new theme the bars go black for a second and then gray.. If I check the reg the value is 123.. ??? why would the device reject the value?
Nevermind.
Well.. No.. But it looks like you have a nice WA setup there.. I was referring to the default WM6 interface themes..

I decided to play with ThemeGenCE a bit and managed to make glassy black bars etc. I did, however, have to set the BaseHue to 160 in the registry. I kinda messed with the wmbe.tsk as a base so I won't post it since it belongs to someone else.

I have wondered about this too.
I like a theme in WM5 called Cyclic Black Bars (I think it was part of Molski's ROM package for Wizard) - very shiny black bars - when I install it in WM6 either on Wizard or my Tilt, it's shiny black bars alright, but no 3-D effect. When I look at that Registry value hklm\software\microsoft\color\basehue it is 123 as you noticed above.
I tried editing this theme in ThemeGenCE. I have not been successful in modifying it so the bars have 3-D. Maybe you would have more success as you are more experienced by far - I'm just starting to play with this.
I know this thread was real old so I don't know if any of you all will notice this - hope so.

Change TF3D Tab color

I´ve modded my HD with nocurtains application and new Icons for the TF3D, however, the squares aroud the icons are still grey, is it possible to chande the color to match the theme?
If you mean like mine then I did it with the attached cab file (or at least I think it was that one that did it).
That´s it :d
How did you chenge the start icon? Have that CAB?
There's a thread about it here. I can't remember without looking but I seem to think the file also has various other icons altered. If you wanted a version with just the HTC logo altered I can do that for you? Or if you want the full coloured top bar I have a more recent version than in that thread that uses files just from the HD when possible.
I already have the colored topbar, but if you can post your version of the colored topbar with the icon changed it would be nice, can you also change the start to "iniciar" ?
Then can you post the cab for changing only the logo?
Sorry about the delay I got a bit sidetracked yesterday.
I've attached two cab files. One replaces the Start icon only (all the other icons are untouched). The other is one I created using just files from the Touch HD when possible (the other version knocking about seemed to use some differing files from the Diamond and also had two 80% battery indicators but no 79% which I've fixed). You need to install SDKCert.cab if you've not already got it. I've changed the word start to "iniciar" with a lowercase I. If you want it with a capital I let me know. I've been using the second one on my phone for a week or so but with Touch HD with no issues but other than me it's completely untested.
Also, the modified files are from a WWE ROM using English. I believe other locales use different files.
this thread will be moved to the theme , software and application section
It looks amazing
Please, send me the cab with Capital "I"
Can you explain me how do you make this cab files? To complicated for a noob?
Here's the same cab with full colour icons, HTC start icon and a capital I in Iniciar. You need to install SDKCert.cab if you've not already got it.
To create the top bar took a bit of figuring out at first but once I'd got my head around it it's fairly easy. All the guides are on the forums somewhere. I'll have a look to see if I can find the ones I used.
Once the files are modified creating the actual cab file to install them is very simple thanks to an excellent program called Quickcab that is also on the forums. You tell it which files you want copying to the phone and where you want them, create any registry keys that may need altering (this top bar has one key that changes the amount of battery statuses to 101). You then give it a description for Remove Programs and a file name and click create.
Hi friend! I liked your botton icons. Where can I pick this theme up? Does it include Stocks icon?
Thanks
It's from an excellent Diamond theme by DjOuBhAa called Simply Black. When the Touch HD first came out someone adapted the full theme but I only wanted the bottom icons so I took out the manilla files for the icons and made my own cab file. Unfortunately it doesn't include a Stocks tab icon (the original didn't either).
I've attached the cab I used as well as No Curtains to remove the top and bottom curtains and Pamas Transparant Slider to give a transparent slider and remove the background on the icons not currently highlighted.
It also looks very good on a lighter background
Hello, in the transparent slider i see an whit symbol only over the indizies-tab.
All others are ok. Can you help, that all tabs are blank, when sliding?
Thanks
Manfred
Thanks a lot for the icons and all the work you had.
There is only one other thing I would want it to change if possible, the battery icon, I saw one that looks better in my opinion, it´s somewhere around xda, but can´t find the link, please see post #2202 in the following link.

I've just double checked my Remove Programs and also my Cab folder and they're definitely the two I installed (apart from the actual icons) to get my slider as it is. The only thing I can guess at is if the order you install them in could make a difference? Maybe try them the other way around?

I think what you guys need is this editor. It's simple to use. Just install in storage card and use it to make your top, bottom or curtain fully transparent.
P/S: I install to Device because I have to re-install it whenever I upgrade or Hard reset. Dont know why.

You need to install Dusk 6.5 Theme.zip as well.
Unzip the file and add the contents to \My Documents\Themes\Dusk (make sure it reads this way only - no lower level or will not work) and then go to Today settings and select one of the themes. It works well on R9 (no issues with Manila 2.1). Do not change the background picture however to those included in the theme as this causes these black bars to be duplicated.
There are some added benefits of this theme, it changes the scroll bars to a nice glossy black and changes the highlights in most screens from that terrible green which makes it impossible to read the contents to a nice deep black.

You can try with nuenobar1.3 or 2.0, it depends on your ROM I think. For me (TouchHD and WM6.5 ROM) it doesn't work... Maybe you can have more chance.

this can be a somewhat tedious task, but.... i copied all png, jpg and bmp files from the windows directory to my laptop and (using Corel) changed the color of each "green-colored" file until i completed them all. once done, i created a cab file that allowed me to install/uninstall for future ROMs. don't know if there's an easier way.
Any chance of that CAB?
Thanks
I would like the cab aswell =)
Thanks
Or you can all install that ROM and be done with it! LOL
Actually I'm pretty satisfied with Dutty's Wm6.5 R12 rom, but I would like to make those highlights blue.
A copy of that cab would be very usefull, allow us to know which files it is and easily change to whatever colour we want.
UITweak enables these to be changed on 6.1, but I do not know if it works on 6.5.
Im running the Energy Rom and it works great, however i wanted to try other roms, but non have the blue
