May sound dumb to some of you but i do not understand on how to install a patch please help have searched thank you

Seriously, what "patch" are you referring to? A .CAB file, a .ZIP file, a .REG file??? If you tell us what you want to do....i.e. what you want to install, then we can help you....

i have schaps 4.30 and he put up a patch but its in rar form but i cant unzip on my phone for some reason and if i try unzip before i put it on i dont know where to put it either way heres there forum its on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355774

I don't see a RAR file in that thread, all the attachments seem to be .CAB files, but hey, maybe I just wasn't looking hard enough!!! Anyway.......
To unpack RAR files, you can use WinRAR (http://www.rarlabs.com/rar/wrar371.exe) on your PC to extract the contents of the RAR archive. Unpack them to any folder on your PC (e.g. C:\TEMP) and then use ActiveSync's Explore button to find the file on your PC and then copy the file across to your phone (e.g. My Documents or Storage Card).
It's quite likely that the RAR file only contains a CAB file which you can then open on your phone - use File Explorer to find the CAB file, then tap on it to install it.
You should follow any specific instructions in Schap's thread when installing the CAB file, but in any event it's probably a good idea to soft reset your phone after you've installed something.

I need to install some files on my XDA ii and all of these are CAB files. I have read a number of posts which indicate I should put it onto my mobile and then install. So I have tried the following...
I download the file (for this example ArcSoft_MMS_Composer is what I'm trying to use) and extract it to my desktop (instead of copying it).
Then whether I put I try to use it from the desktop OR put it directly onto my mobile there is no exe file. When I click setup it just shows a page of html.
PLEASE PLEASE tell me how to install these CAB files? All i get is xml files which show html. Do I need to use a program? if so which? Or is it something else I'm not doing...
Im using windows vista, my mobile is xda ii and it has a wm6.1 rom.

Just click on the cab file to install. You must put the cab on your device. there is no exe inside the cab file. The cab will look like a zip or rar file but it is not - it is a cab. once on your device just click and follow instructions.

you shoudn't extract the file
copy the .cab file to your XDA ii then use the file explorer to open it
and follow the instructions

i just bought HTC Touch HD. I download some app from here but is rar file not cab file. Anyone can teach me how to convert the rar to cab file or not? or teach me how to put the rar to my touch hd. One more Question i cannot connect to youtube when i click the icon is loading after few second is show connection fails. Can anyone help me!!!!!!!!!!!!

A rar file is like a zip file, so you'll need to extract the cab from within it.
If you don't already have a rar-compatible piece of software on your PC, then WinRar and 7zip are your best bets.
If however you're looking to access the rar file on the phone itself, I'm not sure if that's possible. Sorry.

Ya i know. i have the winrar software but when i unzip it. it come out a folder and alot of file inside.

From where can i get the new cookies home tab?? i downloaded it but there is no .cab file in it exept for a xml and other type of files after extracting.....
Please someone tell me how to get it??

the file you downloaded was a CAB. which includes xml and other installation files
you should not extract it in your pc. just copy it to your phone and run it

problem - .CAB become XML DUCUMENT

hi,
I tried to search about my issue , but no use at all.
at first of all i would like to mention that I`m a newbie (very newbie) so please try to help me with my problem.
my problem is that when i unzip any .cab file , i got the setup file in it as XML document , and when i transfer it to my storage card , it`s turn (the setup file) to a web page , so when i click it to setup the program , an opera page opened immediately with a browser address ( file:// localhost/storage%20card/core%20player/_SETUP.XML) in other programs it might be _setup.cab.xml at the end.
so can any one help me what to do to solve this problem , and can install a program in my mobi windows.

YOU install the .cab file ,don't extract the contents of it!
