A Wm6 Ipl/spl Q - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

I would like to know the IPL/SPL versions/fingerprint that were leaked with the original WM6 ROM, I have noted some strange low level behavior with WM6, though I know that RTM builds are early and it will be long before release of the official carrier update that includes WM6. I would like to know if some of the problems in WM6 could potentially be involved in layers beneath it.

WM6 upgrade for EU at september (maybe)

Looks like HTC's word means nothing (like when we were waiting for SD corruption patch). Read this:
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/07/07/htc-europe-wm6-upgrade-dates-being-pushed-back/
Typical....
But if you think about it, they have a lot of languages and regional settings to release...so its kind of understandable. I would be happy running WM5 if they had a device the size of the P3300 with UMTS and GPS.
No worries because on HTC Asia-English site it says they will release a DoPod WM6 on July 13th. I am sure that is all people like Tom or BePe will need to get a good, solid/stable WM6 ROM that everyone can use and modify to their liking.

WM6 AKU Versions

I'm considering upgrading my Orbit to WM6, but before i do, i'm curious as to the differences between the versions of WM6 available.
The HTC and most (all?) of the cooked ROMs are version 3.7, but the official O2 German and UK WM6 release is 3.4.
Are there any significant differences between the versions?
Thanks,
Owen
I have tried them all - 3.4 3.5 and 3.7 - they are all the same wm6 build 5.2.1238 (build 177745.0.2.3) so essentially the same os (diff dates but thats the providers date) - all seem to run at the same speed and slight difference in which apps they have. The 3.5 and 3.7 are green yuk! I used 3.7 to cook my rom purely because people look at numbers.
I hav noticed WM6 loads little bit faster than WM5. WM6 come with more friendly interface for most applications.

Windows Mobile 6 Axim Upgrade Questions

Hello
About 6 days ago i found out that there was a WM6 version out for Axim x51v, called Football Edition. I downloaded A03 RTM edition and the upgrade went fine but now i feel that this version is very slow. A big difference is that when i open Contacts i can see how it reads a contact and adds it to the list, it takes about 3 secounds and in WM5 it took 0 secounds!
Now im am confused about this becouse many people says WM6 is faster, i dont expect any super system now but at least it would run as WM5 did. I heard people talking about A17 but whats that?? there is only A03 out from football? Is this version i got the latest and is there any other/better roms out there??
Please help me becouse im a bit sad about this.
A17 is a custom WM5 ROM from Football that includes Microsoft updates that Dell never made available.
M17 is a modified version of A17 and can be found over on aximsite.
It is a little more polished.
A03 RTM from Football is the latest WM6 ROM but it still needs a little tweaking by the end-user.
Mostly regarding WiFi issues.
All details are in the full thread.
As for overall speed issues -- it is possible that different Axim hardware revisions (I think there were at least three) react differently.
For me, there is no noticeable lag and the additional features outweigh any other issues but that's up to each individual.
Restoring a past backup onto a new ROM can also affect performance and is a definite no-no, so if you happened to do that you should try a reflash.
Thanks for clearing it up for me
I did not restore any previous backup extept only som files but no registry or database stuff. "A03 RTM from Football is the latest WM6 ROM but it still needs a little tweaking by the end-user." does end-user means me? in that case is there any fix/update i should apply. I saw that there was some fixes on the download thread but i got no hardware problems, my bluetooth and wireless works fine.
I was wondering about something, the drivers should be the same as in WM5 as for WM6? shouldnt it be OK to just take thoose?
Yes, that end-user means you and me
My experience with WM6 A03 (footballs) is just the opposite. I have over 4500 appointments (most with notes added to the appointment) in my X51V going back to the 1990's. Prior to WM6 A03 my X51V would hesitate big time when ever I tried to move backwards or forwards within the calender application. With WM6 A03 there is zero hesitation. In addition all of my other applications (excel, word, bible, movies, pictures, pdf, music, etc) have a hugh speed increase. This general increase in speed however is not reflected with a CPU speed of 'Auto' as my daily standard nor any reduction in battery usage. In fact my gut feel (not tested though) is I have improved battery usage with WM6 A03.

Return to the original WM6 ROM

After using for some months the last cooked roms (MARY, SCHAP's 4.30, FAMAN, etc.), which are beautiful and has lots of enhancements (including lots of space for super clean ones), I am tired to find so much bugs that make it impossible to have all functions working well continuously.
The one I have now, schap's 4.30, has serious problems with bluetooth and connections (wifi settings dissappearing, A2DP continuously stopping, etc).
So I thing I will go back to the original HTC WM6 rom.
Does anybody know if there has been any newer realease after the beginning of August, were it was first released in Asia?
[in Europe it has never been released].
Thanks!
To me all the cooked roms a worth it.The HTC branded are lousy, overloaded, slower, locked, their dialpad sucks plus after spending all this money HTC doesn't even take care of its european and american customers just by releasing a new rom and on top of all these issues wifi for me was something almost imposible ( it didnĀ“t work with wm5,with the Dopod wm6 roms hardly worked and with the cooked ones wifi is not a problem anymore.
A2DP is kinna buggy I agree but they make it work with some other patches as for the disappearing wifi,I believe that's a wm6 issue.
P.S-You might be tired of bugs, but be nicer and smoother when you say you are tired of finding bugs,we got every rom for free with their effort and time.
I made the decision to go back to WM5 in december.
I was using FAMAN's release since june and as I'm using SPB mobile shell I found HTC HOME useless.
First imprssion with this return in WM5 was really good especially concerning reactivity. The problem with WM5 is SDHC support. I'm using 2Go mini SD and got corruptions and many problems with WM5.
Then came SCHAP's 4.30 and I must say that I'm completely satisfied with this ROM. The only annoying poit is thas latest french release has a bug with ringtones but the first version tweaked vithout video calls is really fantastic.
So think about it before downgrading.

WM6 vs WM5 performance comparison

Is the original WM6 for Artemis more responsive in general use than the WM5 version? I'm also interested if the cooked ROM's (Touch 4.02 for example) have any speed advantages when running TomTom. In my WM5 TomTom is quite slow. Can anyone comment on the performance of TomTom using different ROM's? Is there any visual difference?
About battery life, I've read a lot about some experiencing power drain but others getting even better battery performance with the same ROM. Is it even possible to say whether WM6 increased battery life vs WM5 or not? Please post your experiences, as I am trying to decide to upgrade or not to, because it is a small risk aswell.
in general: DUMP WM5 !
Advantages ( amongst others) of WM6:
- no data loss when out-off battery !!!!
- tomtom and other apps run more smoothly/quickly (subjectively)
The battery-drain for sure is a concerning matter, due to being based on gsm polling problems on certaain machines/radio versions!
he last tested and afaik original artemis radio rom is version 02.98.90.

totally agree and i suggest go forward to WM 6.1
WM5 is only history

wm5 is faster in my opinion that wm6 and wm6 totally kills your battery time which is a big nusience..
also wm6 seems more complicated with the simple phone functions....
I have tried some of the cooked rom's and have so many problem with the screen auto rolling when I don't want it to and sometimes I will click on "ok" and it doesn't seem to register for 3-4 seconds....
in general for phone and email use I am going back to wm5 to get back the battery time and general usability of the phone itself...
with wm5 I hardley ever ran out of battery time however with wm6 there has been a few occassions where I have not had a chance to charge the phone in one or two days and it has gone flat when I really needed it... simple things like this make the upgrade not worthwhile IMO, even if there are better features and nicer look in wm6..
Still confused what to do then with my xda orbit!
Just found this thread.
Mixed advice it would seem.
I've just bought an XDA ORBIT. It's still got Windows Mobile 5 and has TOMTOM 6 installed.
I still don't know whether I should UPGRADING TO WINDOWS 6.0 OR NOT?
Some say TomTom6 runs better on Windows 5, some disagree.
I also have copilot 6.0 discs which I could use instead. Anyone have a preference between Tomtom6 and Copilot 6 on the xda orbit?
Thanks in advance,
Matt.
I strongly reccomend skipping WM6.0 and going streight to WM6.1, and go for the "Touch 4.01" rom. I'd personally reccomend the vanilla one, as it's the fastest, and most of the installed stuff will be useless on the bulkier roms.
TomTom 6 runs very well on WM6.1, better than I remember on 5.0, however, i'm using a much later version I got from an unmentionable place. Takes only 3-4s to load from the today screen.
As for the data loss with WM5, that's actually a bit of a fib. Non-volatile storage was introduced with WM5, and enhanced for WM6. It was WM2003/SE when there were issues with volatile storage, and the in-ability to actually turn a device off.
Hope this helps

Latest official o2 wm6 rom is shipping with radio version 3.06.90, which I found very good.
Wish there was stand alone install for this one, so I could use it with touch 4.02.
