I installed WM6 last night after CID unlocking my s620 hoping for the excitement that i had when had my HTC Wizard upgraded to PDA VIET's cooked ROM of WM6. I wasn't impressed enough to keep it, so i would like to highlight what i had found, which might repeat what others already know.
WM6 Beta Pros:
1. It is faster, it feels faster
2. New Microsoft Word, Excel edit capabilities
3. Press and hold the key and you will get the symbols instead of pushing the FN key to create !#$% symbols for example
4. All the other frills of WM6
WM6 Beta cons:
1. Because this is a T-Mobile ROM, and I am using it for Rogers, the additional customization for T-mobile is useless to me
2. The joggr has to be reset to use it as scroll instead of the volume function that the DASH uses - Reg edit will fix this
3. For some reason, as noted in another thread, the keyboard search from the home screen doesnt work right. Instead it acts like a phone keypad. For example searching for a name to call - key 2 acts like ABC insetead of E!!
4. SNAPIN issue - will send SMS messages to the UK, costs you international monies - fix is to delete the folder
5. Incompatibilities with Blackberry connect
I went back to WM5 and I will wait for a newer or cooked rom of this. ITs not worth it to me to flip to WM6. Being that i was using WM6 for a long time on my HTC wizard, this version of WM6 is way more inferior on the DASH/s620 than when it was put togetehr for the wizard.
My recommendation is to wait for another release.
While your PROS are legit, I have to disagree with your CONS.
All of the CONS you list are easily fixed with the exception of 3 and 5. Many don't use Blackberry and #3 is one small inconvenience for a leaked ROM IMHO. When you compare it to having Word, Excel, and Power Point, it's a good trade off. #4 is still not entirely fixed by deleting that folder. On Cingular I still get the junk text message when booting my phone. THIS is what ruined it for me. Since I don't know what's causing it, I don't fully trust it.
I also went back to WM5 to be fair. The s620 FW is stable as hell and very fast. I wouldn't use the standard T-Mobile WM6 ROM once it's released due to the crap they are putting on it. I'll wait for a generic like Dopod or HTC before I upgrade again.
Man I liked the native Word and Excel support. I can't wait...

To solve the blackberry connect problem check out this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294218&highlight=blackberry+connect
Actually you ahve very valid points, and i agree the stock 405.4 ROM on the S620 is super fast. This is the way i see it.
HTC Wizard
WM5 cooked rom to WM6 cooked rom ==> HUGE IMPROVEMENT
HTC S620
WM5 stock 405.4 rom to WM6 beta ==> Minimal improvement.
THis thread was just to warn that its not really worth a great deal to switch from an already great ROM.

nice summary. i'm going to wait for a nice cooked rom or offical one being installing it.
if it weren't for the SMS issue, I'd have stuck with it. I really liked the HTML email and the office apps.
But the official ROM is only a month or so away. If HTC releases this for the s620, it will be a great ROM...
I'm waiting for the official...

There are easy workarounds for the keypad, and Doc2Go doesn't allow you to edit Office docs (does it?).
of course it does. but office in wm6 does not allow to create new docs.

Yes, please, for the love of God tell us the workaround!
i believe the workaround is to hold down on the keypad and let it cycle through the letters. it really doesn't take very long to get to the letter you need.
not a big deal imo.
Docs To Go is laggy IMHO on my Dash running WM5.

This is not the workaround. For example, we don't want the "4/s" key to represent "I,H,G". This key should just represent "s". This is what a QWERTY keypad is meant for (among other things)!

I can almost guarantee this will be fixed in the final version. It appears to be an implementation issue. I bet you a reg edit will fix this.. Anybody know where to find the reg edit key?

I guess this may differ since you don't have T-Mobile, but that functionality already exists in my Dash, Windows Mobile 5. I bought it 3 days ago and saw that tip on a site. It definitely helps not having to press the Alt key.
hi guys,
today is the 3rd day since i posted the upgrade and we had 75 downloads within 70 hours and 36 people asked for the instruction.

2. sheeeng: thanks for posting your result on the forum and offering an alternative download link for people who can't access rapidshare, appriciated it
3. aeropic: glad to hear your 2003 french rom flew to english, i will try to see if i can get a french version for you if you still wish and when i got time
4. bowmoreinfrontofafire: glad to hear your bricked ipaq came alive again, enjoy it
5. LuteK II: hope you have sorted out all the mess between tommy_adsl's rom and mine
for those who haven't share your experience with others, please do so if you have time
for those who just joined the forum and got my instructions, please stay here as long as you can, this is a great place
for those who got my instructions before yesterday that has a page link to ebay:

i was shocked yesterday when i noticed that all the screenshots were updated from PDAViet's 18533 rom to, what a familiar look&feel!
i can't simply judge from that changes but, don't think i am a jerk, here were the actions i took:
1. i killed the download link
2. i posted my ebay item, sell it for 1.99
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250232653715
i am not going to make a fortune of that, actualy i pull out of my own pocket to cover all the fees in order to list it. i just hate thieves.
for those who still have problem upgrading your ipaq, email me and i will try to help out
for those who are unlucky and can't get the file before i shut it down, please view my ebay item, if you like, it costs you only 2 bulks.
for those who successfully upgraded, i appreciate it if you keep your copy for your personally use only
and again my thanks go to all and this is a great community!

Hi Guys,
Thanks to this forum and I have learnt lots of stuff. After taking knowledges from people on this site and a few days hard work, I think it's time for me to give something back to the community. This is my first contribution so I hope some of you will like my work.
Attached is the link to the WM6 ROM update I created for iPAQ HX2000 PDAs. I have my two hx2495b upgraded and everything works great: outlook, office, windows live, wireless, bluetooth, ... you name it, no power drain problem, no soft reset, fast, reliable, I really love my work.
I don't have any other hx2000 series model to try but I certainly confident that it will work with all models in the series. Here are some screen shots FYI.
Please don't flash your ROM using the file downloaded directly, you could brick your device and I am not responsible for that.
Please message me and I will send you detail instructions on how to install it. I will honor every single request. please allow at least 1 min, at most a day to get my response.
!!!WARNING!!! if you are a junior member and this is your first time flashing your rom, please let me know and I will give you instructions as more detailed as possible.
Also please do not waste other people's time by pm them and asking for the instructions. instead, you can use your time walking through this and other threats and topics. you really can learn lot of stuff here, you can transform yourself from an always "eating out" person to a DIY cooking chef like me.
So far we have quite a few people successfully flash their rom, the devices range from low end 2110 to high end 2790, the original rom versions include 2003 to 6. this is very encouraging.
There do have some hiccups though, here are my suggestions:
1. if you see a symptom where when you close a program and you see some "artifacts" on the Today screen, this most likely is because that when the rom was cooked, the registry settings for today's items were not cleaned up, so to quickly fix this just enable/disable some items or reorder them through today's setting
2. if you successfully flashed the rom but your device doesn't start, simply remove your CF card and reboot again.
hope you who successfully upgraded your rom will share some experience here.
Enjoy it!

After looking at it I don't think my guess is correct. It is a smaller than my Hermes 6.1 .nbf.
As soon as we hear from samz on how to install it I will give it a go on my 2410. I have WM6.0 on it now and I am getting some random battery drainage that hopefully this rom will take care of.
So we are waiting for Samz's instruction....
It appears that this is some sort of self extracting file. When trying to open with WinRar it ask for password...I say this is little fishy to me.
Flashing right now, will let you all know how it goes
Upgraded, flash went well. Including some screenies..
Good job samz, a very nice and flawless flash!
Feels nice and fast. I will play around with it for a few days and see if I find anything.
Might be time for me to pony up and buy a newer PDA though. It's a bummer that I only have ~12 megs of storage on the PDA but that has been about the same each upgrade since WM5.
Is the HP ProtectTools by Credant still available?

asbestos,
I'm thrilled that the 6.1 ROM is finally fixed & running!
Thanks to samz & all predecessors!
Am curious to know if the HP ProtectTools by Credant is still available in this ROM or as a separate installable cab file?
I need this application as a requirement for my work.
Also, it would be helpful to list what other 3rd party apps are included in this ROM.
Many users have been requesting for a 'lite' version of the ROM to maximize ROM space for persistent storage.
Thanks!

Hp protect is there and it works just fine. This is a pretty light ROM. It looks like samz replaced the usual calendar with 1-cacl lite, there is the normal wm5 explorer (which I replaced right off).
There is no java support. In fact all of the usual jre's do not work as far as I know on the wm5/wm6/wm6.1 other than IBM's J9 (cab included in this post).
Here is the base rom programs:
Games:
Bubble maker
Solitaire
Apps:
Activesync
1-calc lite
File Explorer
iTask
Notes
Pictures & Videos
Search
Task Manager
Tasks
Windows Media
I do not have a "B" revision device. If you do, you most likely have much more rom storage than I do. I started off with about 14 megs which has been pretty much the standard since the old school WM5 update years ago.
I did not need to shuffle ROM's around to do this update. It is probably the easiest upgrade I have ever done on this device other than the OEM releases.
If you want to update to it just follow the directions and PM samz for the directions.
Again, thanks samz for a great ROM. I will be testing it today with my usual routine and see how it goes!

Unclear how to install this one. Build_copy.txt has instructions where to copy files from certain folders from the zip archive, but zip archive you uploaded does not have any folder structure, so its just a bunch of files, i can only guess which files to copy...
Code:
a. Copy \Bin\*.* to \Windows
b. Copy \Media\Canned text\*.* to \Program Files\SoftBankMail
c. Copy \Media\Pictures\*.* to \My Documents\My Pictures
d. Copy \Media\Sounds\*.* to \My Documents\

it's from the x04ht dump. the program is resolution-independent except ArcMSGRes.dll. i simply unpacked all the images and icons in ArcMSGRes.dll, made the image size of them half and repacked them into ArcMSGRes.dll. as for emoji, i did not test it since i don't use it...

it's a package for cooking, not for installing as it is. i am sure someone can make a cab out of it. i did not write Build_copy.txt. it was included in the diamond dumped package from the beginning.
there is one thing i don't understand yet. s!mail is integrated as sms in diamond, not as email. i haven't found which part of the dumped rom does the job. so, if you cook it in your rom, it is regarded as an email account...
For cooking? I thought someone made this for testing on other devices, before real cab is made. Maybe we should ask someone with X04HT (or X05HT?) what files are in these folders mentioned in Build_copy.txt in order to make cab. On the other hand, there is one or two xml files in the ZIP, and from there one could get a clue where to put the files and what are required registry settings...
Other interesting stuff, this seems to be Arcsoft MMS client modified for SoftBank... Would like to try this on english ROM as soon as i find some time. Also, i plan to get X05HT soon, wondering if they packed the same thing there as well.

1) no. Emoji seems to be supported by an extention program, which i have not found yet.
2) yes, but opensoftbank connection will be used.
3) i don't know. what i am trying to do is making a hermes rom like opal. i simply want to share my findings with other qvga device users.
by the way, i found it will insert sms/s!mail options in dialpad, which could mess up your dialpad menu unless you use appropriate dialpad...

Yeah, but that sending MMS to a phone number is a big deal, for me at least. Almost everyone I know using Softbank uses MMS-by-number and as things are now it is a hassle to reply to them.
Just to let people know that the Softbank mail setup under Arcsoft blows mmslite out of the water (and absolutely murders the old Softbank mail app). I too am therefore hoping that a cab will be released soon..... looking forward to trying it on my x05ht as well, with an English rom. Now, only if the emoji problem could be solved...
To Zgembo: Only advantage of X05ht over the x01ht is the screen resolution. As it is the stock Softbank rom generally sucks; it just seems a lot slower than the old x01ht, although it can be tweaked a little (not much though). Really, this is more due to crippled drivers it seems; so blame it on htc. See here before deciding whether to upgrade. Note: the Diamond and Touch Pro HD also suffer from the same problems.

yep, that was one of mmslite's weaknesses. I also hated having to copy the senders number from mmslite and then paste into the sms app to send a reply..... :-(

Yeah, but there are no graphics drivers for it, so it is more like using windows in safe mode. Does not matter which rom you use. Who knows if this will ever be fixed or not? (I am pissed off, because even flashed roms are slower than my Hermes was; GPS doesn't lock properly, music skips, etc).

you cannot install "this" package on any vga devices since i changed the resolution of all the images. just use the same package retrieved from x04ht/x05ht. for english roms, just make *.0409.mui's for the apps. shouldn't be much difficult since i have been making tons of *.0411.mui's to make full-japanese wm6.1 roms for my x01ht and polaris.
as for emoji, this "app" supports it on x04ht/x05ht. this "package" does not since the emoji function is supported by something else than the package.
I look forward to updates on this thread...
In the meantime, for those who want to send MMS by a softbank number there is an easier way to do it. Save the message you are writing into the Drafts folder, navigate to the folder, then move the message to the Outbox. It will send automatically (at least does on build 303 JP).
If anyone is skilled in writing mortscript it could be convenient here

Cool workaround. Worked for me, but is still a pain in the ass and shouldn't be necessary in a perfect world. Still, cool workaround.

Hey there,
I got a softbank X05HT from Japan, had to unlock it so it would work in Australia, HardSPL'd it, flashed a new ROM now I was looking for the Softbank ROM again so my girlfriend can use Japanese on it - can anyone direct me to the standard ROM for Softbank please?
EDIT: Actually, I'f prefer it to be in English so I can try to fix it when it has a cow from time to time... but she has many friends back home she's more inclined to keep in touch with... I've got NTAF's ROM and installed the Jap cab... but too hard to work it... probably rather have original ROM and add and English cab to it.. ta
I am buying a T-Mobile dash off ebay that has been flashed with Windows Mobile 6.1 from this forum. I use Myfaves to keep my cell bill low and I guess the version of 6.1 on this phone doesn't have it. Is there a version of WM6.1 that has myfaves that I can get a hold of or am I just going to have to downgrade it to WM6.0. Thanks for your help.

which goes to a non-working "solution" and a dead-link.
joshua couple things to know about myfavs u do not have to have the user interface for myfavs on your phone to be able to get the calls to those numbers free. those can be managed from the tmo site and as long as they are entered when the number is called or they call you it is free. secoundly the user interface is really just a fancy speed dial for those contacts anyhow and there are a few roms and apps that can duplicate what the myfavs UI does. Good luck.

Another solution is just to make a panel with my faves no.'s
As someone noted above, you don't need to have the myFaves interface on your phone in order to use it. I have 3 phones under my T-Mobile Account, and only my son's has the phone interface. You only need to make sure that it shows your selected myFave numbers on your account at http://mytmobile.com . This is where you can manage your myFave contacts instead of through your phone as well.
Thank you,
Tim

Yes, but it's not T-Mo's MyFaves application. It's just a panel where you can put ANY of your contacts as a "Fav".
As others have said... you don't need a MyFaves app on your phone to make free calls to the numbers you've selected as your Faves.

I was searching for this solution a while back. Just follow this link and install. Go to the TMO website and update your Faves and push back to your phone. As others have noted... the app is just a fancy speed dialer. Goodluck!
Can anyone do it?! Is there an easy way to do it?! WM can live up to iPhone and iTouch, we just need to steal all their apps, so, can anyone do it and develop a program in which we open the App in it's iTouch state (don't know what it's called :S) and is converted to a .Cab file?!
You wish!!!
no problem! there's a new hack coming with WM 6.5
In registry search key "HKLM\Security\Microsoft\Shell\Emulation" or create if it doesn't exist and set value "MacOSNative" to "1"
Softreset
Then you'll see a new shortcut in start menu

Careful...that only works if you don't also have "HKLM\Security\Microsoft\Shell\Emulation\BlackberryAppSupport" set to 1.

Careful yet again, you'll have to delete System32 on your computer first.

nah! don't make him harm his system!
But I forgot to mention you also need to install the newest HardSPL for your device. But keep in mind you have to power off at roughly 90% unless you want to have the Apple restrictions on your WM phone! Yes, I'm sure, this one and the two registry keys and the appstore is yours!
I think I can smell something here...
Haha, try to find that entry
as an advice , do not do it .. don't mess with ur registry.
man , there r hundreds of apps for ur phone .
I doubt that would be possible. I believe I read somewhere that all iPhone apps make an API call to Apple's servers which verifies the serial numbers of a few arbitrary hardware components in a given device by running them through an algorithm.
If the validation fails, your location is immediately calculated, Apple locates their closest fanboy in your vicinity (aka sleeper drone) and causes his iWhatever to play a sound which sets off the "iPuppet" mode and gives Steve Jobs the direct control of the fanboy.
It is only a matter of time then until Steve Jobs finds you, tranquilizes you and forces you to watch nonstop Apple commercials until you become an Apple fanboy yourself.
lol.. funny topic...
Maybe you can reverse engineer that algorithm and control the iPuppets yourself...
If sarcasm was a currency around here....
Hopefully HTC will assassinate Apple by sending ninjas. If this wont happen you can always run iPhone apps on WM after stealing an iPhone from a friend and taping it to your windows mobile device.

remember the TV spot when they shaked one iphone and transfered some data to another one (was it a picture?)
Whatever it was... I took the chance and wrote the "Shake intercepter". At the moment when the guy is starting to shake his phone my spy app is hooking into the iphone's system and steal all apps from it. And to make it a bit more usable it's also packaging it up into a cab like requested in 1st post (no HardSPL needed!!!) and it's also possible to directly create a OEM folder for our kitchens. It took me a LOT OF nerves to figure that out but I'm glad it's finally working! Some more testing and I'll upload a beta
+1
worked for me...thx for the suggestions guys, keep'em coming!
Edit: o yea, forgot to say i'm on nrg's latest 2.5 rom.
