Hello,
I'm a newbie to this forum. Yes, before you all say anything I know they'r the same thing, packaged differently.
Since I'm in Canada, I'll be paying full price for either of those two, unlocked ofcourse. Was wondering if there are any pros/cons to either those two and which one would you all recommend?
Thanks
With Artemis you should have HTC patches and upgrades, with branded devices you may wait longer (for O2, Orange... software releases). HTC officially announced WM6 ROM for Artemis and help for other brands if they will decide to buy WM6 license, but you don't know if they will...
Will O2 be offering a WM6 upgrade? Someone just posted that O2 will not be offering an update. I'm wondering if I shud get O2 or not. I really like the Orbit, but now im confused.
O2 havo no plans to upgrade for now, but they don't say no for ever - so we don't really know...
I've ordered HTC P3300 only because everything seems confirmed for it, plus I'm getting it with all North American maps. Will let you guys know when I recieve it in a few days.

Hi All
I've been looking at getting a Qtek 9090 for a while now and I have seen lots of postings talking about the t-mobile mda iii supporting blackberry etc and maybe the odd posting where someone in the UK has got a xda2s or 9090 to do it using a particular rom.
Can anyone say that they have witnessed a 9090 with ANY rom on it that supports blackberry in the UK with Vodafone?
I'm really keen to get this going as it should be my ultimate device!
Thanks
Will.
Blackberry support has to be implemented at the provider end, as well as with the client software. Does Vodafone have Blackberrys?
Chris
Vodafone UK supports both Blackberry Internet Service (formerly Blackberry Web Client) and Blackberry Entreprise Server.
For BIS pricing Check Vodafone Blackberry Price Plan
As for the Blue Angel software, T-Mobile's Germany ROM supports the Blackberry Connect. Confirmation can be found here.
For a list of supported devices check Blackberry Connect. Scroll down to the paragraph that says Available Operating Systems and Devices.
Hope this helps.
I'm using Blackberry from T-Mobile UK. Using the ROM supplied by T-Mo UK Customer Services. It only works with their radio ROM, which means no radio upgrades possible. Push emails are great, but this version doesn't seem to be able to handle attachments (larger than a few kb).
Ok, thats all fine - we already have a vodafone BES server etc using standard blackberry handhelds and also nokia 6810 mobiles.
The real question though is - although t-mobile have got the MDA iii working with blackberry abroad (and with their radio rom) - is it possible to install their radio/roms etc onto the 9090 successfully?
I need to get the device (whatever I get) sim-free, and I am having trouble finding an mda iii sim-free in the uk...
Thanks
Will.
The T-Mobile ROM is available on this site:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_Upgrades
The BlueAngel is available SIM free from eXpansys.com and I got mine considerably cheaper from justtelecoms.com and it comes with the BB ROM already installed.
JT also do it on 1 year and 2 year contracts
Ok, thanks for that.
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=QTEK_9090 is what I've been looking at getting
Can I presume that it is perfectly possible to install the t-mobile roms onto a qtek 9090 and then unlock to any network (as I'd need to use my voda sim)
Thanks
Will.
I beleive the Q9090 from expansys is already unlocked and yes, you can install any rom.
The JustTelecomms option comes with the correct rom already installed and they will sell it sim free for £330 and unlock it for only £15 or you can use the free unlock tool available here on xda-developers.
Can we all assume it will work? Yes.
Can we guarantee it will work? No.
I have bought the XDA IIs on this assumption. Due to lack of time the device is still in its box.
In the meantime I am still using my Blackberry 7230 but soon I will get my hands dirty and start playing with the XDA. If you're willing to wait a week or two then I'll let you know of the results.
I called justmobile and they don't take credit cards!!
Any other suggestions?
Might be old news, but XDA Orbit has finally appeared on the O2 UK website
https://shop.o2.co.uk/ComingSoon
I'll certainly be looking to buy one!!
XDA Orbit
I spoke to O2 customer services at the end of last month and they told me that it would be available in November. I was a little skeptical and bought the P3300 from Expansys on O2 as they're not offering the Trion yet. From past experience I wouldn't count on it.
I should have waited for the o2 version, been a big fan since my EXEC. Although I was under the impression that o2's relationship with HTC ended along with i-mates. Very happy to see a HTC phone coming from o2, but I wonder will there be more to come?
Long live ASUS
I believe the HTC relationship has been closed off (with regard to new handsets).
Expect new handsets to come from ASUS (i.e. ZInc, Graphite, etc.) due in Jan.
Apparently someone in O2 Customer Service said that their spanky looking Artemis version was being released on the 27th of this month.
27th release date is correct.

Dude, Do ya know if this device is meant for the Asia market or not?
Coz I remembered here in Singapore, we had Dopod 818Pro instead of the Neo... which means to say only 1 brand will appear here, and that is Dopod.
Can only talk for UK, Germany, and Ireland, i suspect it will not be seen in Asia.

With reference to this Orbit review:
http://www.4winmobile.com/viewtopic.php?p=42938
There are 2 things that I'm puzzled:
1) Infrared Gate: IrDA 1.2, 115200bit/s (SIR/CIR)
I thought the Artemis doesn't have Irda? Is there a mistake in the review?
2) Bluetooth: Bluetooth 1.2
Pretty much everywhere else says its got BT2.0. This review mention that it has BT1.2.
WiFi support is present for both 802.11b and 802.11g connectivity, but unfortunately Bluetooth is still the older 1.2 specification and not the hoped for 2.0 which supports A2DP, etc.
That said Bluetooth connections to the Jabra BT500 headset have been clear and voice dialing is supported and works well.

LB, have ya tried A2DP on this device yet?
Thanks!
MasK,
Yes I have but only with the Samsung SBH 170 headset and it appears to work OK if a little limited in range.

launch date
I think this is always the same with a new hardset from O2 but i've just got off the phone with o2 select support and they reckon it's not out till after Christmas :-(
The O2 website is saying its this month.
https://shop.o2.co.uk/ComingSoon
Worth noting though that different service providers within O2 will choose to stock it at different times, so maybe Select are next year.
the O2 Orbit would most probably be released in other parts of the world except asia coz its released bt Dopod instead
LB,
I know this sounds crazy.. but does the device have glabal warranty?
Secondly, do ya think it's available in the Netherlands? It does seem better looking and more sophisticated compared to the stock Artemis, and I'm wondering what my chances are in getting that into Asia. Thanks!
MasK,
The warranty will be valid if purchased from O2, i guess you are asking whether you can get it repaired if you take it outside the UK? I am not aware of any plans to sell the device in the Netherlands, alough it will be available in Germany.
Cheers

So if O2 don't release on the 27th (this month), the same way I've moved last year from Orange I can move this year to T-Mobile which have the MDA III.
Didn't quite like the phone signal on the Exec anyway...but if they do release...and they have a similar price as T-Mobile, then it isn't worth the hassle. Can't wait till after Christmas...can you?
Well.. It's not abt waiting. In fact, I'm quite confident the new HTC devices (at least the Artemis) is gonna be released by end of this month during an IT exhibition. The thing is, the Orbit looks nicer than the original Artemis. It'll be real nice to have one here for the sake of uniqueness
Well, I in fact like the original as it's a bit...square.

Hmm.. yeah.. I do like squary designs.
It just seems that the Orbit has a better colour combination (something the Atom should have int he first place, instead of making it all black!)
Anyways, design-wise.. the Artemis is definitely better than the trinity, imho. At least they got out of the magician/prophet form factor.

Hi everyone!
I've just had my O2 customer services representative on the phone to confirm that next week I will have the XDA Orbit delivered to my office, so it seems that this time they have done they homework...
Can't wait to play with it!
Hi guys, great forum. I have a v1605 on contract with Vodafone UK and I am told that it belongs to Hermes / TyTn family from HTC.
I wanted to know if there was a WM6 upgrade for this model as the guys at HTC Europe were not ready to talk about any network centric phones though their own upgrade is coming around end-July.
Actually I wanted to upgrade my handset to the successor of TyTn which I believe is Kaiser, but nobody at Vodafone is ready to talk about it.
Any help in this area will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi by any chance did you manage to local and install WM6 on your V1605 as I'm trying to find a ROM upgrade of WM6 but no luck. Can any help me with this...?
Hello,
I have an MDA Vario II on T-Mobile UK which I bought less than one month ago. I can see that HTC have released an official WM6 upgrade for the phone but I cannot find an official upgrade on T-Mobiles UK site.
Can I use the official HTC WM6 ROM Update Utility and get my phone to WM6? If so when I boot my phone up into WM6 for the first time what must I do to get my GPRS settings etc. back on? Just use the online T-Mobile service which send s them?
I know it sounds like a n00bish question, but I've just got this phone and don't fancy bricking it just yet!
Any links to additional downloads, resources etc. would be well received.
Thanks everyone
Anyone able offer advice? I've done a lot of reading about this on the XDA-Developers site but I'm still in the dark about whether or not something might refuse to work after flashing or how to best avoid the dreaded bricking.
Thanks again
Ok, so I know the obvious differences in that the O2 & T-mobile require you to sign up to contract and dump a load of their own branded software on the phone, but is that all there is when it comes down to it?
I used the Vario 2 for ages but jacked it in a few months back because I got fed up with it's clunkiness. Only now I need something to take it's place. Obviously I'm posting here so I'm looking at the HTC P3300 (or a contract one). Problem is I've still got 4-months left on my curent contract so I have to buy off-contract so to speak.
So back to the original question, given the HTC P3300 is roughly £100 more to buy compared to T-mobile / O2 realeases (roughly £200 on Eay) which is the better option? Frankly, I'm tempted to stump up the extra because I thought the Vario 2 I had previously was pretty dam slow with all the T-mobile stuff on it but then I'm as well versed in the ins and outs as some of you guys are so what do ya think?
T-Mobile has no WLAN.
And at least for HTC there are two packages, one with TomTom + Maps for Western Europe, car holder & charger and one without.
I believe O2 Germany had the big package, but I'm not sure.

No wifi? I hadn't realised that! Seems a bit like a no brainer then
Actually, come to think of it, I am correct in my understanding that I can just plug my T-Mobile sim into this and as long as I configure appropiately I should be able to get it to work?
if you use a non-simlocked device this is correct.
There is the question of styling, which is of course personal. However, I think the Orbit is much prettier which is why I got one. Everyone to their own, tho'

Yes, this is true and I agree but then I think I'd feel a bit of a twit using the O2 model on a T-mobile contract
O2UK ones are unlocked.
You could buy it from eBay or get it on contract from O2, CID unlock it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=308242) and then flash any ROM you wanted from the collection on this site or elsewhere.
