How to Install TomTom in SD Card - P3300, MDA Compact III General

Does anybody know how to do it?
Thanx in advance.

Search the threat at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285511

Don't understand what one thing as to do with the other. I want to know if it's possible to install the main tomtom program in the SD Card.

It's not related, but after quick search:
"I discovered another way to install TomTom and maps on SD partition(it works for me very well).
After partitioning I've three partitions \Storage Card \Storage Card2 and \Storage Card3.
I installed TT and map in main memory, then I moved directory \Program Files\Navigator to \Storage Card3\Program Files. Then I moved folder with map files to main directory of \Storage Card3\.
I leaved folder \My Documents\Tom Tom were it was.
Now I can run TT from SD."
And there is another advice in this threat...

Thx m8.
Cheers

SD storage : MOVE My documents ?

Hello,
I've bought a storage SD card.
I wish to move the "My documents" folder to this card.
I 've created a "My documents" folder on the SD card, and moved the files BUT the new folder does not replace the original one, and exploring My Pocket PC/My documents leads me to the empty old folder.
Is there a way to improve ?
More generally, what's the best practices when equiped with a SD Card ?
Thanks,
Jean-Jacques
You can create a shortcut on the root of your device's memory ( \ ) and make that shortcut point to "\Storage card\My Documents"
Most programs require you to point the path to your SD card yourself under options. i.e. Notes, you'll need to choose Tools>Options and pick "save to storage card". And in your storage card, make sure there's no file with name like ignore_my_doc or similar, or it will save to your SD's root instead of your 'my documents' folder.
How do you create the shortcut on \ to point to the storage card?
I have moved my documents to the storage card, but I still have an empty my documents on the \ .
Can't seem to figure out how to create the shortcut link.
In Notes, I have set it under options to point to the SD card.
Use Resco Explorer or Total Commander to create the shortcut.
Total Commander is great & its free. Get it from here (http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm)
Turns out I had Total Commander and just didn't know how to make a shortcut. Figured that out.
Now I have a file My Documents.lnk in \, and a My Documents on \ that is empty (I delete it and reboot and it keeps coming back), and a file called Old My Documents in \ that only has a dir called Templates in it. I can't delete the Old dir or the Template dir, no matter how I try. (I had renamed the orignal My Documents to Old My Documents after copying the folder to the storage card).
Is this making sense? Thanks for your help.
Using Total Commander, click on the folder you want to create the shortcut for, then from the File menu, choose >>>>> then Create shortcut.. It will ask you for the destination location of the shortcut. Click ok.
I really don't know what's that Old My Documents folder.
Anyone knows a solution for this plz ?
Maybe you need a registry hack.
Thanks, I did figure out how to make the shortcut, but I just can't get rid of the old docs directory and it keeps creating a new my docs dir at \.
And although there is a shortcut in \ to \Storage Card\My Documents, the Notes don't sync with the SD card.
I have changed the option in Notes to look at \Storage Card\My Documents
Very Weird.
The built-in notes program is very dummy!
I stopped using it; because I found a much better one : PhatPad
By the way, storing notes on the storage card is really risky!
Did you hear about the well know SD card wipe problem?
It happens to a lot of people here in this forum..!
I had experienced that SD issue...but it was always backed up so it was just a pain in the arse. Once I upgraded to 2003SE, knock on my wooden head, it hasn't happened again.
I'll try the subsitute program. Thanks...this is all very strange.
PhatPad is really the best notes program ever 8)
Same Question
* bump *
Sorry about that...but I would also like to move My Documents...I'd like to put mine in 'Storage' (the built in Storage on the BA)
I've tried exporting the reg and replacing \My Documents with \Storage\My Documents...and then reimporting.
Some things now save in \Storage\My Documents...but...
* I can't get rid of the templates folder
* My Documents keeps comming back!
I have moved My Documents to the SD card.
I made the registry change pointing it to the SD card as well.
But I still get the My Documents dir coming back to the Main Memory every reset.
After reading more on this, and seeing the risks involved, I am now rethinking whether moving the docs to the storage card is such a good idea.
Malicious Microsoft?
Given the ability of some people to easily hack our computers, the only safe way of having documents on our PCs would be to create them on removeable media while off-line and remove it before going on-line again. Does Microsoft have a vested interest in making it so hard for users to do this and so easy for people to hack its products?
It is not rocket science (or even computer science) to request insertion of a "Documents" SD card if not present. It could also optionally automatically eject the SD card when all files on it were closed.

is it possible to put the themes on storage card?

hi
is it possible to put the themes on storage card?
i am putting them on my documents this takes too much of my pda2k memory and when i remove them from my documents i can't find them in my today list so i can't choose any
thx for help
As far as I remember you can put them in the My Documents folder on the storage card.
i didn't find my documents file in storage card so i created it and copied all the themes in it but still i can't get them in my today list
any other solution
Try a soft reset. It should work. I've had mine (XDA IIs admittedly) running themes from both \Storage\My Documents and \Storage Card\My Documents
Try using TKCreater (free) from FunnySnake. It's basically a theme editor for ppc, so small and u can install it in storage card also. Open theme via the apps and press 'Activate'. Voila!

Word docs default save place

Does anyone know how to force Pocket Word to save new docs into \Storage Card\My Documents folder?
I can make Word save the files in Storage Cards using Options, but only in root folder, although there is a 'My Documents' folder created in the card.
Quite interestingly
1. I resolved it with Excel (since it has a registry key for 'save to' folder), but I cannot with Word and Notes (because they have'nt -- or I cannot find)
2. My previous PDA (Magician) did it without any problem.
Thank in advance for the solution or any hint.

Perhaps this will do:
Go to menu/file/save as
Then:
name, map, type, location (main memory or storagecard)
The map can be selected.

Yes, thanks, I know I can save the file everywhere I want. The question is about the DEFAULT save folder.
In case of Pocket Word (and Excel and Notes) the default folder is '\My Documents'. If you choose in Options Storage Card, the default folder changes to the ROOT folder of the card. But I would like to have '\Storage Card\My documents' as the defauld save folder.
Am I clear now?
Changing the default folder for saving Notes
I'm having this exact problem with the Notes program, and I found a registry entry that SHOULD fix it, but it doesn't.
When I select the option in the Notes program in WM 6.1 on my Touch to save files to my storage card, it saves them in the root folder of the storage card, which I definitely don't want. I want it to save by default in the My Documents folder on the storage card. What's strange is that the list of files that Notes shows when I open it up includes files saved in the \Storage Card\My Documents folder, I just can't get it to save there by default. So, I poked around in the registry and found the following key:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Notes\FileDest which was set to \Storage Card. I changed that to \Storage Card\My Documents and that should have done the trick. Unfortunately, that didn't work, even after a restart. Notes continues to save new files in the root directory of the storage card. In fact, it appears that the registry entry changed back to the root folder after the restart.
Anybody know why this registry change isn't doing what you would expect it to do, or how to get the change to stick through a restart?

For myself, I solved this issue the following way:
When you open the Notes program, in the upper left corner you'll see a drop-down menu to select different folders. Choose the folder you want (I chose /My Documents/Notes), and that's it! After choosing it, all the new notes that you make are saved in that folder.

Tomtom 6.02-7910 on Artemis

I just installed Tomtom 6.02-7910 on my Artemis. I have installed the program itself on the device and the maps on the storagecard in a map called TomTom.
This ain't working. I already found the following:
6.02 wants the maps in My Documents so you have to move the maps to a new folder \Storage Card\My Documents.
And you have to modify the registry key 'My Documents' in 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Explorer\Shell Folders'
and name it \Storage Card\My Documents.
Now I have downloaded a program called Mobile Registry Editor. When I'm looking in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Explorer\Shell Folders I do not see a registry key called 'My Documents'.
Can anyobody tell me what is meant with the instruction written above? I also have Total Commander. So a work around with Total Commander is also fine by me (if I understood correctly, editing the registry is also possible with Total Commander)
Your first mistake may be placing the map folders inside another folder on the storage card. Mine (v. 6.02) works with the maps in folders located in the root directory of the storage card. For example, I am using the North America map and it resides in a folder called "North_America-Map" in the root of my card. The extra level of folders you have may be hiding the map from tomtom's view.
Anyway, registry editing should not be necessary for you to get tomtom to work. That's way to many hoops to jump through for a top sat nav program!!
If you need any other help (if this works for you) feel free to PM me. I'll be glad to help any way I can.
There is already a 6.03 update released. Read it on a navigation forum.
Maybe a stupid question but where can I find this navigation forum????
edit:
Ow you said "a" navigation forum.
Already found it. Thnx!

Well I did that. I renamed the folder "Western_Europe-Map" but that ain't working. An older version of TomTom works the way I did (with the map TomTom) but this version doesn't.
So I think if I want it to work with 6.02-7910 I need to do the register editing.
edit:
Installed TomTom 6.03 Everything went well, until I had to register the TomTom map. Well now I'm back to an older version. 6.01 I think.

Relocation of Pocket IE cache to storage card

I am running the LVSW 3.30.2.1 version of WM6. The hack for WM5 in the wiki (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...ermes_Registry) does not work in this version. Does anyone know how to relocate the IE cache to a storage card in WM6?
Thanks!
try sktools or pocketmechenic. it works for universal running wm6
This hack from http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Registry (1/2 way down the page) does work for Hermes variants on WM5/WM6 such as Cingular/The New AT&T/AT&T 8525 (my backup phone) and Softbank X01HT (my primary phone) (I made a registry entry for it but of course, I use my login name such as \Storage Card\LoginName\Profiles\Temporary Internet Files, etc).:
PocketIE Cache in storage card
Create these folders:
\Storage Card\Pocket IE\Temporary Internet Files
\Storage Card\Pocket IE\Cookies
\Storage Card\Pocket IE\History
Add the following registry keys, string data type:
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders]
"Cache"="\Storage Card\Pocket IE\Temporary Internet Files"
"Cookies"="\Storage Card\Pocket IE\Cookies"
"History"="\Storage Card\Pocket IE\History"
You then would need to do soft-reset to get the new folders to work.

PIE on Storage Card
Custel's WM6 has HTCustom (and other's like Pimp My Black) have options to change the location of PIE cache to the MicroSD card.
Just run HTCustom
Select the Pocket IE tab
and choose SD Card (or Main Memory)
Save will SoftReset your device
Be careful with the D-Pad option on the same screen. Some people don't like the way that changes the behavior of PIE as well as message reading.

Thanks, crazynut. The trick is in the registry string. This ROM includes reg strings as in the wiki and your reply, with the default path "\windows\Profiles\guest\*" I verified that that is the location where the cache files were stored and then tried changing that to "storage card\Profiles\guest\*" and modifying folder names on the storage card to match followed with a soft reboot. It didn't work, either. Could you spell out what you did in more detail?

N00b download one of the tweak tools either pimp my black V2.0 or Htcusom 1.4 and it will set the reg for you and your done.... no reg hacks no nothing just some clicking on the screen...
It works as in the wiki. I am not sure what Registry Editor you are using. You should be able to use Total Commander or a similiar product. I think a lot of people like PHM Registry Editor. I use Kilmist Registry Editor since I got my company to pay for it.
That being said, AustinSync said in another post that you can use one of the tweaking tools to click the location to the storage card (my experiencde with doing that tells me that they just do not let you choose which folder on the storage card).
Good luck.
