xda IIs ram/rom issues? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Hey, just bought an XDA IIs.......nice machine.. now the official specs are 128mb sdram and 96 rom, but when I go into the hardward device infomation, it says 128mb ram and 32mb flash.
So I'm wonderin'.. is that correct? or is there 64mb of flashROM missing? or does it not show up because it's being used and inaccessable?
As i said, I just bought this and I'm not sure if it working entirely correctly.
Thanks for a prompt reply, I'll have to send it back soon.

No one got an answer to this?
I wouldn't have though it was that difficult.

the missing 64M is for ramdisk...
use repartition tool

ok, I've the solution, strange, but thrue.
I buyed yesterday a beautyfull, new minisd "4Gb", mounted it, and I discovered that if I run mtty with the 4Gb minisd into device, all blocks are bad
the rom wasn't updated into device if I flash one...
without minisd mtty give me all blocks ok, and flashing other rom, it will be uploaded into device...
ok, this is my cas, good also if someone have same problem, but my question now is, why with last 2Gb minisd this problem didn't present???
I flashed hundreds of rom with minisd iside and all ok...
my my new good, beautifull minisd 4Gb I spent a lot of time today to understand why all block were bad, this is the answer...
bye!
but the question still rests... why whit 2Gb sd all is ok, and with the 4Gb one not?!?!?!?
could this be part of the problem with ppl not being able to flash new radios to their device?
*sorry double post*
4Gb SD card MUST be a SDHC card, and these run on FAT32.... i think that might cause all problems...

It didn't surprise me. To read files from the SD card, you need a hardware "driver" to communicate to the hardware and to understand the layout of the card, both physically - the SD/SDHC format; and logically, the file system on the card.
Remember, there is a distinction between the OS and the firmware - what an OS can do DOESN'T necessary mean that what a firmware can do, vice versa. Think it as the BIOS of your computer against your installed OS.
In this case, your WM6 can read SDHC because there's a SDHC driver in the OS. When you are doing an flash, all the vital functions that are needed are provided by SPL. If the SPL don't have the necessary "driver" - to read the SDHC, it will naturally bails out of the operations.
It's by design and is more or less expected. Period. Unless HTC is going to "update" their SPL to support SDHC as well, but who knows.

ok, good answer!!
I know now...
I suffered the problem of bad blocks you mention with a defective 4GB mini SD (TopRam) and reported it in Pof's thread (unlock) two months ago. I was about throwing one SPV M700 out of the window. Hopefully, I removed the card at the last minute. The result was the same as you describe: no way to flash a new ROM. Partial flash seemed to work but then I realized the previous version was still there. Wen trying to flash the OS section in the rom, the Trini faded off.
I have had recently had another problem trying to update Radio Rom with no success (no mini SD and no SIM this time). I had Olipro's Spl v1.3. I installed Olipr's Spl v1.2 back (with SSPL) and could upgrade the Radio Rom.

I can confirm this.
My touchpad did not response correct so i decide to go back to the offical HTC ROM. The flashprocess finished at 100% with no error. After a reboot i can see that he radio was not updated.
After i go back to Hard-Spl 1.20 the radio rom i can flash the radio and the trinity accept it.

used the above link to successfully upgrade JAMA from WM5 to WM6!
u can get the rom i used here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/113047805/JAMA_8050_WWE_RUS_WM6.rar
The procedure is simple...
1. Format a memory card (micro sd) using FAT 16, use a card of 512 mb or less and atleast 64 mb since JAMA duznt support 1 Gb cards....
2. Extract the contents of the above mentioned rom to the memory card
3. Remove the simcard, insert the memory card back and then insert the battery
4. It will automatically upgrade, it will take sometime so relax
MAKE SURE TO BACKUP ANY IMPORTANT DATA!
and yes wm6 works and feels far better than the preinstalled wm5 so go ahead!
and yes,,,, you can download the HTC home plugin, the iphone transfomation pack called ifonz, and other handy softwares for JAMA from
www.freeware-pocketpc.com
have fun!

hi sir help me can you give me other link i have problem the link i can not download the file help me sir
boot hangs when sd inserted
Hi. The link works fine but the described upgrade procedure does not work on my imate jama. the device simply hangs on the blue imate screen at startup, whenever an microsd is in there, whether its 512MB or 2GB, whether the update files on there or not, no difference. it just displays the number
7100031.2.3.P30
f754
and there it hangs and nothing happens untill the battery is removed.
Is there any other way to upgrade the ROM ? i have tried google, but only found this page, the deleted imate support forums (thank you imate for your non-support) and some hongkong forums but i dont understand chinese
PS i uploaded the file to another place hope this works for the guy who could not download: http://savefile.com/files/2015033
==UPDATE==
I managed to get my device updated I found some helpful information with google translate on this chinese website: http://www.529buy.com/module/news/nview.php?aid=2028
There is a program called DNW.exe ( http://rapidshare.com/files/202076927/DNW.rar.html ) which i used as described on the chinese website,
but using the bootload.nb0 and FLASH.bin from JAMA_8050_WWE_RUS_WM6.rar (i didnt try the images on the chinese website, i guess they are chinese only). That worked fine up to the line saying "Update OS..." there it hanged and after quite a while i removed the battery and inserted the microsd, reinserted the battery and the boot screen (which displayed a different number now) came up... Checking version ... now the upgrade proceeded as expected and i end up with WM6

Maximum Storage Card Capacity in O2 Orbit ?

I have an O2 XDA orbit and used to have a 2GB SD card i it which worked fine but I have lost it. I am not looking to buy a new one and the prices have dropped so was thinking about getting a 4 or 8GB card but was wondering if my phone would be able to handle it.
Does anyone know if there is a maximum SD card size we can use in our O2 orbits?
Thanks for your time,
memory
hi,
it supports 4 gb as i have used the same with a 4 gb
a friend of mine uses 8gb, there is a "patch" for it somewhere; dont know the link atm
Obviously the one named wm6 is for wm6, the other is for wm5 (although I think they both work for wm5)
Maximum Storage Card Capacity in O2 Orbit
Hi,
inside my Orbit, a 8GB SHDC card is working. I use the Artemis Touch 4.02 WM6.1 ROM --> the SDHC support is already implemented in this ROM --> no patch needed .
Kind regards,
hqqh
Thanks everyone. I ahve the touch 4.01 so does that have the patch ?

Yes it does.
I just put a new Sandisk 8gb micro sd in my Orbit (using Artemis Touch 4.02 WM6.1 ROM) Works fine, shows as 8gb in Total Commander, but on my today screen (if I'm reading it right) it's indicating it's only 3686mb?
Have you formatted your micro sd card yet? If you decide to make sure you format it with fat32 selected.

No. I tried format from my pc card reader but it won't detect it. I didn't try to format in the Orbit (couldn't find the option) I found another screen (storage memory or some such) where it showed as 8gb, just not the today screen.
the micro sd 4g card doesnt work on xda orbit arte 200 wm 5 regardless if its formated to FAT or FAT 32, however 2g works fine. I suppose this is the reason that on websites its written " expandable memory slot" and the value aint mentioned. If theres any way to 'patch ' it to make 4g work on wm5, i'd be curious 2 know.
btw, has any one managed to use the internet via wi fi on xda orbit arte 200 WM5. what has to b done??? mine connects to the wifi, but is unable to browse the internet for an unknown reason.
have you downloaded the sdhc.cab update here on xda???
Will allow upto 8gig(what I use in my partners orbit) may even allow larger but never tried...just do a search...
It works on ALL PPCc and wm based devices...
I use it in my i-mate pda-n (8gig card) and Orbit (standard rom which is partners) but also try a newer rom with 6.5 as is included...
I use sandisk SDHC 8GB more than 2 years and it work perfect , i have wm6.5.
cheers
32 GB MicroSDCard working without problems for a long time. Prerequisite is the sdhc.cab patch for original roms, in current roms it is mostly included.
Regards!
Steve
Can any1 having like for wm 6.5 for o2 xda orbit

HELP! micro SDCH does not work!

Hi there.
I'm having a very strange problem and could not solve it so far.
I have a T-mobile MDA III. When I wanted to install a new 4GB micro SDHC, I downloaded the patch, ran it on my MDA, rebooted, inserted the memory and it all worked perfectly.
Then I got an HTC P3300 (for spare) and wanted to do the same. Installed the patch, rebooted, inserted the memory... but the phone does not recognise it.
I than ran the "go back", rebooted, inserted the old 2GB memory but now the phone no longer recognises it.
So, the MDA works ok with 4GB memory.
P3300 does not recognise 4GB memory and after "going back" does not recognise 2GB memory.
Without memory the P3300 is pretty much useless.
Can anyone please shed some light on this, please....
Thanks.

This is precisely where I got the .cab's.
And in my MDA everything works fine.
On the P3300 the 4GB memory is not recognised.
And after installing 'back2original', no memory at all is reconised, not even the 2 GB microSD (not SDHC) that I used before.
One more detail:
on MDA I have WM6
on P3300 I have WM5
Is there something specific to WM5 to teawk about?
Thanks.

Have you tried reading the card on the PC? See how it's partitioned and what kind of partition it is. Usually, you should use FAT.
I had this issue before (on my Polaris) and a format helped.

The microSDHC was (is) formated FAT32 with only one partition. On the PC it worked fine.
Anyway, I flashed a ROM (could not find HTC original WM6 though...), applied the patch and now the 4Gb micro SDHC is working.
Still, I could not explain why, in the first try, the old 2Gb microSD stopped working.
I recon it's working now?

[Q] HTC Desire Disk Space HELP!

Hi Peeps
I've been a big fan of reading these pages (I have a Moto Milestone/Droid too) and was wondering if you could please possibly help.
I have just been given a UK HTC Desire, running 2.2
One of my apps/widgets, Mini Info, tells me that the on board Disk Space is just 147 MB
I have read everywhere that the Disk Space should be around 512-576 MB so am totally puzzled.
The device is brand new, I only received it yesterday.
Any ideas where the missing disk space is folks?
Thanks so much for your help and for reading this. x
As I understand it the free space is whats left after all the Operating System, Boot Sector and Radio is written to the memory. 150Mb is about right and you will soon use it unless you flash Froyo and move your apps to the SD Card.

hello, from what I know, 512 mb is ROM and 576 mb is RAM. You can not use this as it is used for your phone to run smoothle, just like RAM and ROM in you pc, although they are much higher (1gb to 4gb+)
hope this helps, by the way, all phone specks are on hTc website...

If you want a total backup and dont care about warranty then you root otherwise there is little point tbh.
you are already running froyo (2.2 as say) you can move apps that you install to the sd card as long as the app supports it.
also if you are running froyo OTA you cannot root your phone yet. there isn't a way that you can easily root it. the only way is to downgrade (search forum) or wait till someone finds an easier way to root it.
Just move some applications to the SD card and you will get some more space.
