My brothers Universal (i-mate jasjar) was hijacked from him a while ago...
And he asked me if the hijackers can see his personal information after it has been locked?
I told him I have no idea...
does the device boot normaly and just the phone doesn't work?
or does it not allow you to access the phone at all?
Quite an interresting thread.. I have allways been wondering the same thing !
all u gotta do is use one of the free avaiable tools to change the imei and that person can see what ever is on the phone as long as they dont reset it.
An IMEI lock will just stop the phone part from working. It won't do anything to the PDA side of the device.

So there is nothing you can do (without having software pre-installed) that will make it difficult to access the device's content?
thats why people put passwords on their devices
if there is password on it they cant access the info
they cant get any info on it unless they hardreset and delete the chipondisk
in which case there is no info to get

Here is something that might be remotely interesting for the future:
WM 5 devices have a built in remote hard reset option. Unfortunately to use it you need to:
a) Have built in push mail turned on
b) Have administrative privileges on the server your device connects to.
I never actually tested this my self, but M$ has a very funny clip about this on theire site somewhere.

I have an XDA 2 which I haven't used for some time now. I was just about to sell it but wanted to copy some more or less important files (mostly selfmade pictures and some sent messages) from the device before I hard-reset it.
Unfortunately I enabled the security code feature some months ago. Which doesn't mean the SIM pin but the 4 digit security code which the device then asks for every time you switch it on. And of course I forgot that code after that long time.
I know that I can hard-reset the device, and I will to that anyway in preparation for the sale. But as said, I'd like to have these old files before I do that.
An ActiveSync connection does not help because ActiveSync asks for this code as well before it would let me access the device.
Is there a tool available that reads out or clears this code somehow? Something like the ShowPin tool for the SIM PIN? Or do I have to forget about my files?
No one any idea about that?
not that i know of would not be much of a security code if you could bypass it though....

Well, the same would be true for a Simlock code, however it's pretty easy to retrieve/remove it...
Do you have a backup of the device on the PC (via ActiveSync)? If so, I believe that it disables the PIN when it restores - At least Sprite does and Ithink I recall AS doing it too. Alternatively you could extract the files from the backup directly with the STG viewer?
I put the cab on my MDA Compact and installed it.
Using File Explorer I can see a folder in Program Files and an Icon in the Programs window.
This has the four Icons, Hide, Lock, Unhide and Unlock!
My extended-rom folder is visable in File Explorer so I tokk it that I didn't have to 'Unhide' it.
So pressed the unlock icon and got a window with debug and ok in the title and Error: I click ok.
1.When I get back to my desktop I have another debug, etc window with following FL_IOCTL_BDTL_HW_PROTECTION. I click ok.
2.The next debug window says The Parameter is incorrect. I click ok again.
3. The next says extrom unlocked. I click ok.
I am taken back to '1' and go through 2 and 3 again. The windows go away.
I soft reset the MDA, by using the stylus underneath it.
I go back to file explorer and into the extended_rom folder and try deleting the TMO_Wallpaper and am told access is denied!
Not sure what else to try, but guess the unlock didn't work or I have missed something. Please be kind, if you reply.

Hi,
I am not sure if it works for you to,
I have had the same problem, FL_IOCTL_BDTL_HW_PROTECTION on my screen. Device didnt unlock either.
Tried to do it in any possible way,
even on the fora over here.
But the one wich i skipped, or didn't found was the correct one for me,
Personal i Think my Windows Screwed the files up, but thats F%CK*#G WINLOOS.
So i went to the ftp part of this site, and just downloaded the unlock tool again,
Just did an hardboot of the device, installed the fresh download i obtained.
First unhided it, than reset, followed by unlock, and guess what it said?!?
Rom was unlocked.
So not an single error in my case, hopes it will work for u to.
It is not always your mda who fails, your pc can do this much better.

How do I get to the FTP site, please?
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_FTP_Site
Ok I think i have got to the ftp site, I say I think because when I clicked on the link it took me stright there, it didn't ask me for a username or password :?:
Anyway I searched all what I thought were the relevant folders and some that weren't and couldn't find the file
Can anyone help?
your device is called magician as codename
try looking in the sub dirs under there
I don't want to appear rude, but I have searched all the folders, etc!
I've got very bad problem. I've set password on Windows Mobile 6.5 in my MDA III. And someday it happened... I couldn't turn on the phone mode so I've used soft reset option in xcpuscalar mounted on device. At start it asked me for the password. I'm 100% sure I've typed the correct password (even compared with password I wrote in my notes) and it says that's "The password you typed is incorrect".
I tried several times and nothing. I tried even to hard reset (Power button + reset button), but it seems it does only soft reset (so I don't know how to hard reset it at all). I've tried to discharge backup battery, even took it of. Nothing helps. Please help me with this.
I want to hard reset, but I don't know how? The procedure has changed since WM 6.5? Or help me with solving problem otherwise.
Sorry for my bad english.
the password bug is long since known. that's why it is generally better not to set one on a cooked rom. as far as i know there is no way to reset the password, so i would advise you to hard reset.
that is indeed done differently in wm6.5 than in wm2003
you have to press power +reset and then immediately press camera+record.
a menu should appear.
using the camera and record buttons you set the menu entries from "NO", "NO", "YES" to "YES", "YES", "NO" and press the mail button to confirm, after a little while the device restarts and is hard resetted.
Have the same problem, company policy is enforcing password security....
No chance to cheat that bug? Or any rom without that secured evaluation mode available ?
Thanks and best regards,
Muskote
WM 6.5 lock issue
I have the same issue on my HTC Vogue phone, I haven't hard reset it because I can still answer calls, and I would like to synchronize 1 last time before I hard reset and have to reinstall all my apps. Anybody have a way of bypassing this feature? An NV item to change maybe? I can mtty when I boot into bootloader screen and "rtask c" to get into diag mode and access CDMA section of phone, anything I can do from there? The lock on CDMA is not the same of the WM 6.5

They enforce password security but let you flash the device with a ROM of obscure to unknown origin?
Dirk
spades you nailed it again, exactly what i was thinking, plus there is still nothing new to say, that i didn't write in my other posts, and also, this is the blueangel section, not the vogue's we are 99% dealing with gsm devices here, nearly no cdma.
sorry can't help you.
Same problem here...
I'm facing the same problem...
My phone is HTC Himalaya (XDA II) with WM6.5
I cant enter my phone. it keep asking password altough i entered the correct password.
And it doesnt confirm anything, like ur password is wrong.
the button is pressed but nothing happends.
My contact and my task are synced with exchange server, but i hav plenty important SMS in that phone...
Is anything i can do except hard reset the device?
Btw, i still can receive any call.
Last nite this phone is OKAY, the problem appeared in the morning.
Micro**ft let me down again.
Anyone please help me!!!
as probably you are aware of the fact that this is not the himalaya section (which doesn't matter as this is a general wm problem), and since you posted in an older thread (which i assume, you read before) the only thing i can tell you is,
there are no new known ways around that problem but to hard reset or re-flash. i understand that people want to protect their phones, the password just does not work (yet)!
but to get to your real problem, i have never set a password and do not know if you can still sync the device w/o entering the password, but there is a neat little program called -=Windows Mobile SMS Sync 1.3=-. try that to back up your sms, but i don't know, whether you'd be able to restore them to the device. -=spb backup=- or -=DotFred's pim backup=- are programs for the ppc that are also able to back up and also restore sms, but you probably can't run programs, when you can't get past the password screen.
i hope any of this works for you, and i hope you learned your lesson, not to set a password in a cooked rom
can someone please assist me with a possible stupid question?
i want to know if getting an unlock code say from tmobile would work on just the phones i have or for anyone in general within that network?

usually phones are locked by imei no. so will work only for that phone
if you try this on other phones is to get an error message only -so will not hurt to try but no results also if you try 3-5 times an unlock code phone is hard locked - only service tools(/unlock box/dongle) can reflash /unlock it
stupid noob question
u said unlock box/dondle? what are those? service tools.
so i guess my question is this. is the unlock code somewhere on the phone is there a way or person who can help me find it without going through tmobile

it's hard-coded in radio firmware you can't find it so easy also it depends of your phone model i.e. look here to see how to unlock a galaxy i-9000 phone

as I said you will not solve that problem...
to make Garminfone to work on PC install Android SDK and phone drivers (from CD or Garmin site or just install sync software and you get it) after installing SDK and drivers you should get ADB interface working check this by running adb check from console (cmd.exe) don't forget to add adb location to system path or just enter adb.exe folder before usually the folder is ~\android-sdk\platform-tools\
now check your ADB interface is working open cmd.exe in adb.exe folder then
Code:
adb devices
if you don't get this your phone will not work with PC
don't forget to activate usb debugging on phone
Hey,
I've got a friend that has a s8500, the screen broke and i changed it. By the time i gave it back to him he had forgotten the Phone Securty code he had setup. The only thing i want is a way to recover the data before the reset.
Is there any way to achieve that? Or is there any way to reset/get the code ? I've been looking into the FLOCK thread but im afraid it will lose the data after the flash.
We also contacted Samsung and they said the only way to reset that code is with a hard reset which will make the data being lost.
Can i in recovery/download mode get the data? The most important thing is the contacts/photos.
Thanks in advance.

No idea about the FLOCK thing, i think it's to unlock SIM-LOCK or freeze and not the phone.
The photo are recoverable with android, not sure about the contact (i don't know where they are stored in bada).
In short, you need to boot an android recovery (see the android dev on bada section, i can also provide more detailled instructions), mount bada user partition and then copy paste what's inside on SDcard.
It need an sdcard, a SD fota, multiloader an android kernel and adb (android debug bridge, free software anywhere on the net).
No data will be lost if you do it (if you are on bada 2, else i don't know, and phone will still be locked).

Thank you, i had forgotten that i could just boot a costum recovery. Need to do some research on the contacts location tho since it's really the most important data i need to recover. Thank you again.
