Hi All,
I am thinking of purchasing an XDAII for use with a Vodafone sim. Having read some of the more recent postings, I am somewhat nervous about performing an unlock operation.....is it easy and idiot-proof?
I look forward to receiving some words to the wise, of encouragement, and for the technically not-that-savvy.
Best regards,
Jules
The xda2 unlock is very safe because it doesnt write anything to the phone, it extracts the code and you enter it as you would if given it by your own service provider.

Actually this is not completely true. There are two versions for unlocking an XDA 2. Unfortunately named the same (xda2unlock.exe), but they can be found in two separate threads in this subforum. Read the first post carefully. The latest version is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=6963
The newer version writes a lock 00000000 to the phone and then unlocks it. However, this process is still quite secure. I have had no report of a phone not working due to unlocking. All problems were in the end related to SIM cards not working (old or blocked) or the phone itself being blocked (insurance claim). One problem that still remains is that Orange phones do not seem to unlock (but the phone remains working normally). That is being worked on.
Don't worry about it, I did the same thing...
Bought XDAII from BT with their sim, hoping to be able to unlock it to use my company Voda sim. I was concerened that if it didn't work I would be left with a unit and phone contract i couldn't really use.
I took the chance anyway. It took me approx 3 minutes to unlock the unit and get my voda sim running. The unlock rogram worked perfect first time!

Is there a way to unlock a Tmobile simlock on an xda 2 ???
XDA II
ROM Ver 1.60.00WWE
ROM Date 12/03/03
Radio Ver 1.10.00
protocol Ver 1337.18
ExtRom Ver 1.60.50
Can anyone help please - I purchased a XDA II from MRT - Murphys Respectable Traders! as few weeks ago and only an 02 SIM worked.
I use T-Mobile and with the help of xda2unlock, managed to use Tmobile for 2 weeks then it stopped in/out going calls. The Sim still works in other phones though.
Is there a way to fix this ?[/b]
That doesn't sound like a SIM lock issue. Never heard of a SIM lock coming back later, and you should get an error message if it is locked, not just a call failure. You should probably post a new thread with details on your problem.
Guys, Appolgies if this is seen as a thread hi-jack, not my intention.
I have XDA II with the device information
ROM version 1.60.00WWE
ROM Date 12/03/03
Radio Version 1.10.00
Protocol Version 1337.18
ExtROM Version 1.60.50
I have run the XDA II unlock exe version 2.2 and then run the unlock program on the device, it says it's unlocked, The thing is I can't get a signal from Virgin Mobile, it works fine using my o2 sim card from other XDA II, has anybody successfully unlocked and used the XDA II on the virgin network, the sim is a Pay and you Go.
Any help and advice much apreciated.
Excuse me for being a bit of a newbie, but I am going over to the UK next week and I want to get an XDA II from O2 and then use it while in the UK (where I will be off and on over the next year or two a fair amount), but I also want to be able to bring it back to Canada (Calgary) and then get a Rogers Sim card and have a local number in Calgary as well as the one in the UK, and just switch Sim cards as I travel. From what I understand, this is possible using the unlock software posted on this forum, but I just wanted to clarify that I am correct in my assumption and that I will have full functionality of the XDA II in Canada (providing I pay for the services I am looking for, through Rogers). I have never had a GSM phone before (always CDMA thru Telus) and so I am not really familliar with it all - sorry. Also, can I just go into any Rogers reseller and purchase a Sim card (with the local number on it) and the services I want and then just pop it in? Are they all standard or are there any differnces between the Sim cards in the UK and Canada? (again - please excuse my ignorance when it comes to this technology!). Thanks in advance for your help!
Hi,
You have to unlock the XDA2 with the software on this forum
You wont lose any functionality
All gsm sims are the same (within scope of this thread)
Keep in mind that the XDA2 Software is customized for O2, ie. GPRS, SMSC, Voicemail and what have you got settings will stay those of O2.
You wil have to change those manually when going from one sim to another.
You might want to look at a dual sim adapter. This is a device you put into the sim holder and that can contain 2 sims itself. By switching off an in the XDA2 radio (=phone) you change sim. Advantage is you wont have to open the device every now and then.
I can recommend a dual dim adapter by the name of 'king of double card'. You will need type MAI-E. They are sold on eBay for approx GBP 6 by a guy called saintjoy0_3.
Hi all,
this is my first posting here.
I have recently bought an unlocked TMobile MDA II off of ebay. The phone arrived and I thought if I insert my Rogers sim card it should work. Proven to be wrong, after inserting the simcard, whatever I do, it would not register with network. It shows me "No Service". If I run sim manager application, it shows me all the contacts information stored in it. Called few telephone techies, and they all said, it may not be an locking issue. Some thing else. One suggested that it could be radio band issue. T Mobile 1800 vs
Rogers 900/1800. Dont know what to check, or what to do. Would appreciate if some one could help.
Thanks
Pat
HI
Can a O2 xda be unlocked to use it on 3 network. THe dealer told me that the phone is unlocked, but when I used my 3 network SIM its not taking it...
any similar experiences.......
cheers
it should work, for phone calls and text at least. O2 dont lock their phones. My XDA graphite works happily on 3, except for MMS. Getting reception is another question. Its fine in London, but not so good in other parts of the UK.
Hi,
I have bought HTC Desire (New) from eBay and seller said that he got it from T-Mobile and he don't know if it is unlocked or not. The thing is that from all topics I went throught it always says that if my phone is locked and I put different sim there then I will be prompted at boot to put code. I have tried with different sims (Vodafone, o2) but I have no such code input. Now I am using T-Mobile some cheap card and everything works but when using another card it gives me LIMITED Service Warning and no signal. It cannot register to any network as well. Any ideas if I should go and try to unlock it via some codes or it is unlocked already but I have to rebrand it?
Thank You,
Golotap
I was at Police/Vodafone/T-Mobile/T-Mobile/Another T-Mobile and everyone says this phone has been blacklisted in UK this is why it has such problem ._. so now I am just sending it back to Ebay seller.
Thank You,
Golotap
The amount of people buying from eBay and having problems is unreal. Go buy it from a retailer sicne your guaranteed it actually works.
The problem is money, normal phones are just too expensive for me so many people are just going to eBay.
