Hi everyone,
I've recently upgraded my Rom to Helmi_c(V1.1) - which is really nifty by the way helmi . Everything's been spot on until this morning when I noticed that I couldn't open 'Contacts' on my phone, when I select it, it seems to open for a split second (The word Contacts appears in the title bar) before it closes and I'm back at the Today menu. Obviously this is a bit of a pain, does anyone have any ideas how this can be fixed or should I just reflash and start again?
Ah well, I just bit the bullet and re-flashed the device with the same rom and all is working now! I wonder what happened?
Possibly some software conflict, preventing contacts from opening.
You should have tried "Add Receipient" from Messaging and check if you were able to bring up the contacts list.
ok, I'm having the exact same problem. On a Apache, right after upgrading to aku 3.5
Didn't work. Any other suggestions ?

Hey everyone,
Can anyone tell me if they've experienced this problem too please. I keep losing one particular contact on my HTC Desire. Once I've saved the contact to the phone, it could be there for a day or for 5 days before the cantact is deleted on its own accord!
Any ideas???
Many thanks.
does the record contain special characters? google sync doesn't seem to be able to handle these

Nope, nothing mate, just a plain old name and a phone number.
When you save it, try saving it as a google contact, then sync it. I had that problem till I did this.

I was set in Google Contact and my Contact still deleted from my Contact
How to fix it?
Try adding it on your PC (in Gmail, via browser). I know it's not really a fix, nor it helps you understand what's going on, or prevent it happen with another contact but ... it's worth trying.
Its actually losing any new contact now. I saved a new one last Saturday, and now its "lost" it already! :-(
I had this problem on stock orange Rom.
Have had no problems since I rooted.
Guys, it seems to happen to any new contact. Any idea why this is happening? I'm not even close to the maximum number of contacts.
Anyone else have this issue too?
I had this issue with my Hero, that it would delete the second phone number I added to a contact, everytime I synced.
I got around this by changing the sync options to "replace item on PC" in the conflicts section, and it worked.
It seems for some reason the sync kept thinking the new data in the phone somehow is the older one or someting.
Give it a go and tell us what happened.
But this isn't even happening when I sync mate! :-( It just doing it randomly, any new contact I add.
Guys, was just checking System Updates on my phone, and Software 1.21.405.2 was available. I've just downloaded and installed it, was looking through me phone including my messages and noticed its added one of my missing contacts!!! :-D Hopefully was bug has been fixed!!!
I had a similar issue a few days ago - I added a couple of contacts to one of the default 'Groups' (Family, Friends etc).
Once added they disappeared from my contacts list on the handset. I moved over to the 'Call History' panel and found them, and switched the group option back off. But they were still not showing in my contacts. I thought they'd been deleted.
I jumped into G-Mail Contacts on the PC and found that they were still in the 'All Contacts' list, but had been taken out of the 'My Contacts' list.
By selecting each contact, and clicking the large 'Move To My Contacts' button on the top bar, they instantly reappeared back on the phone again.
Hope this makes sense and stops anyone wasting time trying putting the contact info back in again.
All this happened before the latest 1.21.405.2 - maybe this has been fixed though.

This is why I suggested adding a contact in Gmail. If you have problems with Google apps (gmail, contacts, calendar) it's allways good to check with the mothership (Google) to see what's going on.

I understand what your saying mate, but I'm a bit of a tart, I'd want all my contacts the same and be on the phone, not as SIM, Google, etc... I know what your saying is an easy fix, but it shouldn't be like that, the phone should bloody manage something simple as remembering a phone number! lol.
Anyways, fixed now, job done.
Yes I have the same problem. I hardly ever sync my phone because I have a Mac. Today my contact of my husband just disappeared, this contact I use the most, has the most details within it.
I know that the new download may fix this, but I use Skype on 3 and I do not know if skype will work after the upgrage. I use Skype to contact my family in South Africa.
The facebook pictures for my contacts used to show up on the stock messaging app, but after restoring a nandroid it doesn't anymore. This is also the case with other messaging apps, so I don't think it's related to the app.
Is there any way I can make messaging apps show contact pictures again? (the contact pictures are still there btw - checked the dialer)
Have you checked if your FB account is still linked and set to sync? If yes, try removing & re-adding it. If all else fails, try linking contacts manually.
I'm not sure about the stock app, but is there a part in the menu that you need to tick to show contact pics?
You could also check your accounts and make sure that the facebook sync is turned on etc. I'm just throwing ideas out by the way, I'm not really sure lol.
Edit: beaten to it by John!

Ah, I didn't try the obvious one. The account was still linked and was set to sync, but I deleted and re-added my facebook account and now it's working.
Thanks for the help guys . I should have tried this before posting a new thread here, my bad!

I thought this was going to be a more serious problem but all I had to do was re add my facebook account thanks for the help!
thank you so much. I was searching for a while, but turns out to be a simple fix.
i had the same problem and i have managed to fix it by this way, thanks.
however i have another similar issue which i couldn't fix until now. even if sender's facebook or profile picture seems, my own picture doesn't seem at the conversation.
is there anyone who managed to overcome this problem??
I'm having this "odd" problem too.. however I do have facebook sync-ed (similar to leventmann i guess)
The problem appears to be that the messaging app thinks the contact comes from the SIM (thus lack of profile pics).
Short of deleting the contact form SIM, i've managed to 'trick' the phone into using the facebook/google contact by fiddling around with area codes.
However, whenever I have the contact pic, I then get this "ugly" extra (M <mobile numb>) appended to the name:
ie.
John Doe (M 1234567890): blah blah blah

Which I guess is 'ok', but it just takes up so much space in the message itself (even more so with the new Sense 3.0 messages having an iPhone-like look with messages being left/right speech bubbles)
At first I thought it was because the contact had 2 mobiles associated with the account, so removed (unlinked) one of the mobiles, but problem still exists.
Any ideas on how to keep the contact pic but remove (M xxxxx) ?
Also, is there a way to get the original htc messaging style back? (Sort of like the one you see if you go to "Persons -> <contact> -> Messages"; a basic list of the messages where sender/recipient avatars are on the left...)
I've got a bunch of my contacts "linked" to their FB accounts, but for some reason their pics are all pixelated, I'm currently using RCMix's ROM.
When I was using SGBS ROM the pics weren't all pixelated.. anyone else have this problem?
I don't think it's specific to the ROMs mind you.
hmm, no dno't have problems with pixulated FB pics, when I do manage to get the to display they display fine.
Small update...I've noticed something that may be part of the cause of my problems... in the "People" application the SIM numbers/contacts are not shown (I chose to not view them). However, when I open 'Phone' (to dial someone) I see the SIM numbers/contacts!!!
I vaguely remember seeing this in another thread (shall go digging for it later) but wondering if anyone reading this thread knows how to fix it?
Thanks!

I have changed my ROM from Starburst Froyo to Cool VisionS and i can see my own profile picture now after creating a Google profile with picture.
However now i have this problem above. Pictures are pixelated and i am not sure if it is because of ROM. Another suspicious point is : Before i had "Facebook for HTC Sense" in the settings for syncronization but now in this ROM i have only "Facebook" to syncronize. Do you think it can be related to one of these reasons?
Yes, i found the solution for pixelation problem (at least for my situation)
When i tried to add account for syncronization (under settings - accounts&syncronization) i noticed that there is also "Facebook for HTC Sense" which requires another login process.
Use this account for syncronization and remove simply "Facebook".
It fixed pixelation problem
That did indeed fix the pixelated picture problem for me as well.
The pictures for my contacts in the messaging app are missing though, aside from the few that I have setup to use a picture on my SD card.
have you ever done "fix permissions" from CWM?
permissions's related problem.

I have exactly same problem. Any ideas how to fix this?
I've tried to save my own number to contacts and linked it to my own facebook, but the pic just wont show up? I'm using CM-3.7 rom.
I am experiencing the same issue under stock 2.3.3, from time to time (in a SMS thread, my contact's picture is shown as default). The only solution i've found for this is to open my contact's details and re-add my custom picture.
I can't even find my own contact profile from the phone? Is this someting to do with CM-3.7 ROM or am I just blind? In the stock ROM, it was first at the contactbook, but after I installed the ROM I haven't seen it anymore.
I recently installed the energy rom on my evo (the version dated from 23Nov). When I go into the "customize quick settings" menu (under energy tweaks->notification menu options), it gives an error message and goes back to the energy tweaks menu. Please see attached image. It basically closes unexpectedly and I never get to change any of the quick settings. I was wondering if this is a known issue or not? I did a search and found nothing on this forum (or google for that matter).
I also had problems with restoring my mail settings with titanium backup, but I would bet you guys tell me that is a non-related problem and go pick a fight with the tb guys. Basically, after restoring stored mails and mail settings, the mail application fails to load (closing unexpectedly), giving a similar error as the one from above. I had to basically just restore only bookmarks and sms/mms messages and redo the mail settings myself.
Can anyone help with this? Or maybe the developer of energy rom can fix this and implement in the next release.
I would have posted this in the energy rom thread, but there is this gay rule about needing 10 posts. So, I guess I will wait till I get 10 posts.

I had the same type of problem. (HTC process stopped.) I think it has something to to with the semitransparent drop downs. I had to put them back to the original settings, and it has been fine since. By the way, this is by far the best ROM that I have flashed.
I recently rooted and am using the Clutch ROM which has been working great for the most part.
My issue is:
When I go to the 'messages' app, which still seems to be stock HTC, and type in the 'to:' field to select a name, no filtered contact list pops up so I have to click on the person icon and select a contact from the whole list
Notes:
I noticed that on my un-rooted phone, there were two message apps (or at least icons). Similarly, I had a Facebook app and a Facebook for HTC app which did completely different things (the facebook for htc app worked entirely on syncing the phone with contacts/calendars/etc...) and I thought that maybe the second message app somehow synced everything properly however I may be mistaken.
Does anyone know anything about this? I appreciate, in advance, any help from you guys.
Thanks,
Jon
Context:
Verizon Galaxy Nexus, Stock ROM, Android 4.1.1.
When I check in Settings...Accounts...Google...
It shows a Sync Error for my account. At the bottom of the screen it says:
Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly.
If I then click on my [email protected]
All of the entries are checked and properly synced, and up to date, except Contacts. It says 'Last Synced 4/20/2012..."
Despite this, Contact additions or edits that I make on my phone do in fact get synced to my other devices. And Contact additions or edits that I make elsewhere do get synced to my phone.
So, this appears to be a faulty error message. Since everything is working right, I'm reluctant to do anything major to try and clear the message, for fear of actually creating a functional problem. And yet, it bugs me that it's there.
One of the frequently suggested solutions is to go to Settings...Apps...Contacts Storage...
And once there, hit "Clear Data".
So my question is what exactly happens when "Clear Data" is hit? I want to eliminate the potential for inadvertently deleting my contacts overall, don't want to create new problems, etc., so would like a little more information about what this does or doesn't do.
And, if someone has any insight on another way to get rid of this message, that would be appreciated as well.
Thanks!
Anybody have any information here??
Thanks.
Try this
Hi, i face the same problem. After few hrs search in Internet, I found a way to solve it, so far it works.
Go to Google Play and install this apps: Contacts Sync Fix
Run the apps
Go to setting, open Google account and try to sync again.
It should be OK then.
Hope it helps.

Very interesting! Looks like it just came out this month. This is an incredibly common problem, if you read Google's "support" forums, which I find hard to believe how this is such a core function of the whole Google enterprise.
I wonder what this App is doing behind the scenes, or actually how it does it. All of the reviews so far are very positive, although there are only 11 of them at this time. I'll probably monitor this for a bit, and then try it out.
Thanks!
I exchanged a quick email with the Author, and went ahead and installed and ran the Contacts Sync Fix App. It identified a single problem, fixed it, and my error message is now gone, and sync continues to work fine. I went ahead and bought the ad-free version for $.99 - I have no idea if a problem will recur in the future, but I'll now be able to fix it. And besides, he fixed something Google has been unable or unwilling to do!
This solved my same problem
