Hi all
Well I finally managed to get an upgrade from my loved IIi to Exec.....
However how do I transfer my contacts from old phone to new 1...I tried beam, I tried synching but laptops outlook is dead (2007 thing!), Backup doesnt seem to exist in Exec..so cant back up and then restore
Any ideas???
cheers
George
What I did with my o2 to jasjar was copy my contacts to the sim card then took it out and trasfered to phone.
I dont think when a contact has multiple phone numbers it will copy those...it deffo wont copy all the address, contact grouping info
u can try
syncronizing yopur contacts alone to outlook and then making a new partnership with your new device
it copies everything

That's right. I'm afraid that AFAIK there is no other easy way to sync your contacts. I suspect that you would be better off fixing your install of Outlook.
use any bckup sw i.e. spb bckup, choose only databases and restore in exec and everythink is done. depends what U choose, if U choose email also, it will recreate Your email account settings(user name,pwd...) easier, faster ... than m$hit outlook

I have upgrade from an XDAI to an XDAII, I have trawled through this forum and cannot find the answer. Please put me out of my misery want to transfer the data stored on the XDAI to my XDAII what is the best way of doing it. Obviously you cant use backup and restore and I have tried copying and pasting the Db directory (not possible).
Any clues anyone, I would be very gratefull
what data because if it's just contacts and appointments and tasks and such tnen it activesync with outlook and will automaticly be transfered
programs you can reinstall using activesync 's addremove programs
It is contacts appointments etc.. but I cant use my contacts and appointments because I administrate about 20 of these XDA's so they only connect as guests. I dont want all of the appointments and contacts in my Outlook.
spirit backup or something i think let you choose what you will be backing up maybe if you can choose only those things you can restore it on the xda2 even though it came from xda1

You could just add a new user to windows and use that user's outlook for activesync to store the information in, then delete everything and move on to the next one.. Not ideal, but it should work.
Oh, if you make the user's profile mandatory (not sure if you can do that on a stand alone windows computer, but you can on a domain), all the settings (including outlook contents) should be lost when you log out. That should make things easier still. Just get the user's profile so far as to enable it to sync, make it mandatory, and then log in, sync, sync, log out, repeat.
Can you not just back up to an SD card those apps/data you want and then restore to the new advice. Not tried it, just a thought.

Hi all. I have an Artemis. I want to copy my phone contacts from Nokia E50 to it. I tried from nokia to send all contacts at once via bluetooth, but nothing. If i send contacts one by one, it works. The problem is that i have 600 contacts and probably i'll get old moving them one by one. Is there an automatic procedure?
Hi, I know how frustrated you would be at this moment but please avoid double postings.
Why don't you first sync your nokia with the pc using the nokia sync program, and then sync your Artemis with the same pc? That is the surest way to have the same set of info on both devices.
the problem is that i don't use outlook. i have it, but active sync does't syncronize my contacts. From nokia, I uploaded all contact to outlook, but i can't syncronyze the ppc

I think another way is to copy all contacts in E50 to SIM card and put it into your Artemis. Then you can use Artemis's SIM manager to copy all SIM contacts to your phone. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately the sim may be good only for 250 entries, with the entry name truncated to 13 characters

Chances are since he doesn't normally use Outlook, then it isn't check to synchronize with it in ActiveSync.
hello mate!
i had similar difficult this morning. Copying my 200+ contacts from O2 XDA Exec to Nokia 8800 Sirro.
This is how I worked it out. [Make sure, your phones are properly connected and synchronizing with PC properly before you go ahead with this].
First synchronize your XDA with outlook, making sure, that all your contacts are copied there. MS Activesync works just fine.
Next connect your Nokia phone to PC. Open up Nokia's Synchronization Software in PC Suite. Goes with the name of "Synchronize". Open it up, and follow the directions to Restore contacts from Outlook to your phone [follow directions: PC to Phone].
I successfully moved/copied my contacts and calendar reminders from XDA Exec to Nokia 8800.
One point to be noted. A couple of my contacts on XDA had Images embedded with them. [You know where u put your girlfriend's pics] When these contacts got restored, they still had images with them. But names changed to unnamed. Had to rename them once manually. I couldnt work out the reason for this, probably something that Outlooks does not support properly.
Hope this helps.
Hi there,
I have upgraded from WM5 to WM6 and I am running windows vista with windows mobile device center.
After the upgrade it has recognised my phone as a new device and therefore I cannot resync my contacts etc to it.
Can anyone help me as I have loads of contacts that I really can't afford to lose...
Thanks in advance
Im running vista and WMDC as well but whenever i flash even when it detects it as a new device it still syncs my contacts and everything else.
Do you have Outlook installed? Without outlook i believe it won't save any contact or calender info i may be wrong though...
yep have outlook 2007 installed
It isn't configured though - can anyone confirm if the above is true and whether it would need to be configured?

Yes. It will resync your Outlook contacts. Just make the new partnership and voila! I have deleted and repartnered my device many many times. Ever so often I backup my Outlook contacts to a CSV or XLS file.
My suggestion to you is open Outlook and export your contacts to a CSV or XLS file.
Then make your partnership!

i have all my contacts in MS Outlook 2003... The sync with ActiveSync worked nice.... but if i now delet the relationship on my device in AS it deletes all my contacts on the phone because they belong to the partnership... is there any way to delete the partnership and keep the contacts?
If you've sync'd with Outlook already then your contacts will be safe on your PC. Let Activesync delete them from your PPC and then establish new partnership and download them back to the PPC.
I only noticed this happening on my O2 XDA Orbit recently. Not sure why but my contacts are all there thankfully.

thats impossible... when you delete the partnership it does not delete the Emails, Contacts or Tasks etc...
When you delete partnership it will ask you to delete synced FILES, but does NOT touch Outlook data.
i tried it again.... here is the procedure
No contacts on Phone
all contacts in outlook on PC
no partnerships on pc or artemis
create partnership...
sync contacts...
contacts now in outloo on pc AND on artemis...
delete the partnership in active sync ON THE PHONE...
all contacts are deleted from the device but remain in outlook
i want the following
sync the contacts and then delete the partnership on the device.. result should be that the contacts "belong" to the phone..
I did just this a few days ago, synced, deleted the Partnership and kept the contacts. Like Radek Hulán said, it asked me whether to delete synced files, i tipped Yes, the device worked a few seconds and then the partnership was gone, leaving the contacts and everything on the device.
Try Syncing the device, then disconnect the Phone from your PC and delete the Partnership on the Phone itself (For me it sounded like you deleted the partnership through your PC on your PPC) and if that doesn't help, do the Microsoft Trick: Just try it over and over again, with the same routine, after a few times it will work, it's always been like that
I have a T-Mobile Dash and am connecting it to several Windows XP machines using ActiveSync 4.5. I haven't been able to test this with an older version of ActiveSync because not one of the machines will let me fully uninstall 4.5 and install an older copy. The older install always insists that I have to install 4.5 even if I already have.
My problem is this: Any time I try to delete a relationship between a PC and my smartphone, Activesync deletes every one of my contacts off the phone.
Ideally, I would be able to sever the relationship between a computer and my PDA and keep all my contacts on my PDA. Near as I can tell, this is impossible. And it's apparently that way intentionally, though I can't for the life of me guess why. My contacts are being held hostage by my work laptop and nothing I can do can separate them from it.
It does not matter if I uncheck Contacts in the checkboxes of things to delete, it still deletes all contacts when any relationship is deleted.
The contact are still safe on the computer, but I simply *cannot* delete a relationship without losing all my contacts.
If I disconnect the phone from the PC and go into ActiveSync, only the following menu options are supported:
1. Options
2. Schedule (grayed out)
3. Status
4. Add Server Source
5. Connections
6. Connect via Bluetooth
None of the above options allow me to delete a relationship specifically. Just choose what items I plan on syncing or what connection (USB/IR/Bluetooth) I might want to connect with.
If I choose 1. Options, I'm presented with the checkboxes to select what things I want to sync with my PC.
[X] Contacts
[_] Calendar
[_] E-mail
[_] Tasks
[_] Favorites (grayed out)
[_] Files (grayed out)
[_] Media (grayed out)
If I uncheck "Contacts" and click "Done" I'm presented with this <sarcasm>wonderful</sarcasm> dialog box:
"To proceed, ActiveSync must remove all Contacts synchronized to your device using ActiveSync. Select OK to continue"
My question is **WHY??** WHY can I not sever the connection between the computer and my contacts??? Who programmed this abomination that thought that permanently tying them together irrevokably was a GOOD idea?
Hi all,
I had the same problem and found a workaround. ActiveSync will delete those contacts/... only if they belong to only one relationship and if you try to delete this particular relationship. So, what is the solution? Assign your contacts to two sync relationships! If you delete either of them, the contacts will not be touched.
In my case, there was a sync relationship to mail2web.com for push email and another relationship to the PC for contacts. After reinstalling the PC's OS I needed to delete the old relationship. I was able to preserve the contacts by syncing them first to mail2web.com.
Good luck!
Regards,
Michael
PS: I have to add that it is very useful to have a functional backup program for your mobile phone. Sprite Backup works very nicely for me.
ActiveSync BOOSTER
Is there a way to boost up speed of Sync
Is there a any software or Cab file for it ?
Also want to know after we sync Phone
It keeps repeating to sync, is there a way to stop it ?
With removing the phone
Please Help
I have the same problem with my HTC Diamond (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=437729). BUT unlikely I can´t get my contacts by new relationship to my phone back now. ;o(
the default setting for my Active Sync is "replace items on phone". So when I initially setup my Orbit, all the data on my PDA are being wiped out, including the contact.

Alright guys...
I sorta figured a way around all this. So if you've gone and sync'd your device to your PC, not knowing that your data will dissapear from your device if you delete the partnership... The simplest way is to get a backup software, such as SPB Backup or Sprite Backup and back up only your PIM info (contacts, calendars, etc.). Next delete the partnership you don't want to have anymore. What I did with mine was I deleted ALL partnerships I had (Exchange and PC), and so I had nothing on there. Then restore the PIM file back and you should have all your contacts and calendar info, only but you don't have any partnerships. You can now re-setup partnerships with different sources, just make sure you uncheck the stuff u don't want sync'd I hope that helps.
I don't know if this is help to anyone but this is not an ActiveSync problem at all, it is WM6.1 problem.
You ask how do I know that for sure, I'll explain...
I used to have a WM5 phone until I replaced it few days ago with a WM6.1 phone (HTC Jade)
The ActiveSync I use on my Windows XP PC is 4.5 and I have not changed it with the new phone.
Before, with my WM5 phone I used to Sync my contacts with my phone and then delete the partnership with my phone every time, then create a new partnership each time I reconnect. Maybe you think its strange but this how I used to do it.
My phone contacts were never deleted, EVER EVER EVER on the coarse of 2 years.
Now Yesterday I connected my new mobile WM6.1 for the first time to add my Outlook contacts to it, disconnected and did what I always do which is delete the partnership with my phone. I later reconnected the phone to install an application and then BAM all my contacts are GONE.
So you see the ActiveSync 4.5 app is the same but with WM6.1 it behaved differently which definitely means this a bug or by design in WM6.1 ONLY and not older windows mobile versions.
It also have nothing to do with Windows Vista like someone previously said because my pc OS is Windows XP SP2.
Its another Microsoft mess that we have to fix or live with.
I wonder when are they going to take their work seriously?
Can anyone come up with a tweak or registry fix in WM6.1 to fix it?
Solution that worked for me
I think I figured out a good solution - wored for me.
Go to your My Device Root folder in the File Manager. Copy the pim file, then paste it in another folder on the device to back it up.
Go to Active Sync - delete the relationship.
Now for the scary part - go to your Contacts and they are all gone.
Go back to you My Device root, rename your pim file to something like pimOLD. Then go get your backed up copy, and paste it back into your default My Device folder.
Scary again, go to Contacts, they are all gone. Now the act of desperation - I did a hard boot (removed the battery) - restarted the device. Device now see's your new PIM, contacts are all back - yet no Active Sync relationship. YEA! MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.
So I downloaded wm6.0, 6.1, 6.5 and 5.0 simulators from Microsoft. I tested deleting partnership with each of those (On Windows Mobile itself). So it seems that 6.0 and 6.1 have this problem and delete your personal information when u delete the partnership. 5.0 and 6.5 did NOT delete the contacts/calendars/tasks upon deleting the partnership.
At this point backing up your /PIM.VOL file is the best way of backing up your data if you have to delete partnership.
Also pim backup is a nice freeware that accomplishes the same thing.
Unfortunately I do not have a windows mobile device now but when I had my Tilt, I remember deleting the partnership so many times and I never had this problem.
Wonder if it's related to the build of Windows Mobile.

Like many who probably frequent this board I like to experiment with my device and will wipe my PPC every couple of weeks. I also have been syncing with Exchange through ActiveSync but was looking for a way to severe that Exchange sync relationship without loosing all of my 300+ contacts on the device. I was also looking for a way to backup those contacts to another source so I wasn't locked down to an Exchange sync via ActiveSync to get them back again.
I recently discovered the Microsoft MyPhone application which will let you back up your data to their server. Unforunately it will not backup data that is currently being synced with Exchange.
Using the method suggested by mkrumpe about manually backing up and replacing the PIM file I was able to break my relationship with the Exchange server and then recover my PIM data. Once I did that I was then able to back up my data with Microsoft MyPhone since it no longer picked up the Exchange sync relationship.
I thought this same info and process might benefit others as well who want to break a sync with Exchange, recover their previously synched data and find another non-exchange method to back up this data.
Now I have a way to backup my contacts without having to use Exchange and I was able to keep all 300+ contacts even though I deleted the Exchange sync relationship and may not go back to synching with Exchange (do to upcoming policy changes at my company)

Always do a Sprite Backup
Hi there, i upgraded my artemis yesterday and for some reason i was missing one contact i had to call today, the thing is that when i want to add the contact, so i open pocketCM new contact, i put the name, the file as and the number and when i click ok it gives me an error which states
"ERROR"
"An Unexpected error has ocurred in this program"
My only way out is by clicking ok and canceling the contact... is there anyone else experiencing this? how can i solve it?!?!
Thanks to all and specially to TOM.
Noone can help me?
Did you upgrade from WM5 to this ROM, and if so, did you use something like SPB Backup for your contacts, and restore to WM6? If you did, your contacts database will be broken on WM6, which may cause this...

I upgraded from wm5 to wm6 bb 4.0. i couldnt add contacts there either, i was hoping it was a bug... so what can i do? extract the contacs and put them one by one?
I'm sure there's probably many ways to recover from this, but I used a copy of Outlook. I restored my contacts to the phone with SPB backup, then using active sync, synced them to Outlook. Once done, I did a hard reset on my phone to fix the contacts database, then again using active sync, copied the contacts back from Outlook.
As I say, probably just one of many ways of doing it, but worked for me.
Good luck!
