Advice on WM5 rom and AKUs.. - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

Hi All,
I have been in and out of this forum for sometime and don't consider myself a newbie with doing upgrades etc but I have missed alot of discussions on rom versions and fixes that arise when reading through very long posts.
To this end, could people advise me with the following as I want to use the latest aku for wm5 (tried helmi's crossbow but had freezes though believe this because should use radio 1.13 not higher) that i can to get a reliable jasjar phone but some of the features that AKUs give:
1- tried helmi's aku3.5 v1.31 vanilla and although good, i lost phone abilities after soft-reset and one usage of dialling/sms sending. Perhaps i should use radio 1.13? Anyway, not keen on this rom as when i type a contact using dial-pad no names appear
2- so shall i use Jwrightmcps aku3.2 which comes with radio 1.13.. is it fully functional? I think i have sussed that everything works with aku3.2 but higher than that and some things "break"
3- or helmi aku3.3 v1.2, but which radio should i use for this?
Appreciate responses for all those who have used these roms and been following the threads while I have been away. :-D

use helmi aku3.3 v1.2 and radio 1.13
-just like having crossbow with video calling
-take my advise.. it's the best.

thanx for reply. I had just done that before noticing your post. I noticed though that there wasn't any extended rom (mine is empty still from helmi aku3.5 1.3.1) so thought this might be vanilla rom? Phone is tad sluggish now in comparison but seems to function in all areas. Has VJbigphone been implemented into systray for easy access if i used hi-res? reason i ask is that the hi-res tool doesn't seem to be on the phone so i'm guessing its optional..

my mistake.. found OzVga in the extras folder..

1.40 ROM for XDAIIs

Does anybody have a copy that I can have which involves not messing with and that I can flash to my XDAIIs with no country error and no o2 stuff on it so it looks like the i-mate :?:

Dude do what this say's.
I've just done it: UK XDA IIs, on Orange network, running i-mate 1.40 ROM.
Slightly going OT...
I am quite keen to do the upgrade from my standard O2 XDA2s 1.31.00 WWE ROM, but I am a little unsure on what 1.40 ROM to download from WIKI. I think I need:
i-mate 1.40.176
I know my device is a Blue Angel, Rom as above, extended ROM as 1.31.139 WWE
Can anyone confirm the correct download please?
Also, has anyone had any problems installing on XDA's the same as mine?
I have read the install tutorial, but would like to get an idea of if I am going to run into problems.
Oh, one more thing... What advantage does ROM 1.40 have over my existing ROM apart from bug fixes (oh please! daily lockups!!!)?
Many, many thanks.
O2 XDAIIs Upgrade
I used the i-mate 1.40.176 upgrade for my O2 XDAIIs. All in all its pretty stable, with only the Bluetooth stability (memory issues and BT Manager & Settings "disappearing") as the main issue. Much better than the O2 1.31 ROM (will they ever get that 1.40 update out...!?) You will need to use the "MAUpgrade" rather than "BAUpgrade" utility, as the 1.40.176 ROM was built for the i-mate rather than the xda2s.
One problem I did have with this ROM at the start, was that GPRS would not stay connected. This seems to be a sporadic problem among those that upgrade, but if you experience it after upgrading to this ROM, you can correct the problem by replacing the "CallerID" cab in the extended ROM with the older version (1.17) This version of the file is available on wiki also. This will involved unhiding and unlocking the Extended ROM and replacing the file. Look at the wiki instructions under Blue Angel for "Cooking Your First Extended ROM" That said, you may not experience this problem, so upgrade the ROM first and see how it goes.
All in all a much better ROM. I am trying the new O2 Asia WWE ROM with a modified extended ROM and this is also pretty good. Slighty better Wi Fi switch on and off in my opinion. This one is on wiki also, but you will probably need to "cook" the extended ROM here a bit more than the 1.40.176 version.
Hope this helps
Chris
Anybody tried the imate 1.40 rom on O2 XDA IIs purchased from Singapore?
I am facing problems to using any 'Today Plug-ins' like IP Dashboard, O2 Plus beta, Lexisgoo English dictionary etc. The problem is after say 30 minutes or after more, my keyboard input will only be selectable, cannot select CE-Star chinese keyboard or Intellipad.
What do I have on my O2 XDA IIs?
1. CE-Star
2. Intellipad and Intellidialler
3. Lexisgoo English dictionary
4. SKTools
5. Sprite backup standard
6. Cal89A calculator
7. MDict 1.21
and many more.
Please help anyone.
Thanks.
my exerience with this device and all the ROMS has been that the fewer Today plugins you have the better. SPB Pocket Plus V2.5 caused a lot of lock ups. Not sure about new version 3.0 Seems multiple Today plug ins cause conflicts. Hard to pinpoint all the interactions and what affects what... Not much help I am afraid :-[ I would just try to keep them to a minimum.
Regards
chris
You said it man!
I'm down to zero 'Today Plug-ins' now and it seems to keep my IIs from needing to 'soft reset'.
Any others from Singapore who had used the Imate 1.40 rom?
Two major problems that I am facing with 1.40 ROM include:
1. wifi can't be connected after disconnecting GPRS.
2. bluetooth problem (memory error) or storage card disappear after disconnecting BT.
Anybody experience these?
Cheers,

I had used the Imate rom before but, there has been many casses of terrible lag. When i updated to 1.40 and radio to 1.13 wooo... just very very fast...
Installing the latest Pocketplus with my 1.40 ROM makes my device hard-reset itself.
I need a way of getting IE to be able to save pictures. Anyone know of an alternative way to do this?
I have no problem with pocketplus 3.0.
Which version you are using?
1.40 ROM has serius today screen problems with me too (That's why I still use 1.31).

Help a Noob

Hello there, yes... I'm a n00b when it comes to ROM upgrades.
I'm relatively experienced when it comes to computers and PDA's, but browsing through this forum, I have to admin, I'm lost...
I have an Orange M5000, locked to Orange (I think). Can anyone give me some simple steps of what I should do to upgrade to the latest and fastest ROM version? (I'm currently on 1.30.90 - R1.09.00).
Help would be much appreciated.
**EDIT** Okay, so the instructions are these ones right -
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...tion On How To Upgrade with Bootloader method
But what ROM should I be using? Thanks.
You might want to try the link at
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Upgrades
at Orange UK for the proper way of upgrading to the official ROM, which is an EXE file. That's the easiest.
If you want to get going with the newest ROM's (and are prepared to take the associated risks!) then my recommendation for the process you should follow is this...
First, download the tool at: http://www.buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=100&func=fileinfo&id=288
Follow the instructions in the .rar file. This will SIM unlock your M5000 so that you can use any SIM card in it, but also makes your M5000 "SuperCID" - Meaning that you can upgrade to ANY HTC Universal ROM (QTek, O2, imate, etc, etc) without all the hassle!
Then:
1) Download whichever ROM you're interested in
2) Put your M5000 in bootloader mode (by holding the Backlight and Power buttons while poking the reset button).
3) Connect your USB cable to your phone and PC
4) From your downloaded (and extracted) ROM archive you need to run "MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe" or "ROMUpgradeUt.exe" - whichever was included - it won't matter because your device is "SuperCID" so you wont get any of the Country or Device errors that people often complain about.
Wait for 5 minutes while it all ticks along, do a hard reset, and you're all done!
You may find that your device still installs a load of unneeded cab files after the initial setup. This is because of the "Extended Rom" area where manufacturers put all of their own modifications.
You can use the tool found here: http://www.buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=100&func=fileinfo&id=205 to unlock the "Extended ROM" and the cab files found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=985428&postcount=373 to make it visible within File Explorer.
Then you can delete any (or every) file that's in there. I'd strongly recommend deleting everything if you'll be trying out an AKU3.X or WM6 ROM.
Okay, but I think Orange are a bit behind things...
I was about to try 2.04 PDAVIET UNI PRO. Is this a bad idea for me?
**EDIT** To the second reply, thanks, I'll give that a go
Basically, don't try using any Crossbow ROMs if you need your device for anything important. They're far too flakey at the moment (even the half decent ones).
Go for an AKU3.3 ROM for stability and speed (or possibly AKU3.5 - though they're a little bit buggier).
Crossbow ROMs will get better. Come back for that in a month or two (or three....four.....)
I wouldn't say I do use it for anything important... 1 or 2 calls a day (not business) SatNav once or twice a month. The calendar and ListPro are probably the most used things on my PDA...
Speed is what's annoying me at the moment though. It takes so long to redraw the screen when I spin it for example.
Where can I find an AKU3.3 download then?
Sorry, work tore me away from the forum for a while...
Go here: ftp://xda:[email protected]/Universal/Cooked_ROMs/
There are four folders in there where you'll find a mixture of AKU3.2, 3.3, and 3.5 ROMs by Helmi, Ivan, JWright, and Indra. Personally, I like stripped down ROM's so my own favourite is Helmi's V1.3.1 ROM.
There are plenty of other opinions if you look at the related threads though...
Helmi: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284887
Indra: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285488
Ivan: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=287270
JWright: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279258
If you have a look at the first (and possibly second) post in each of those threads, you can see what's in the ROM and what isn't. Take your pick. As far as speed goes, you will find all of them are noticably faster than any of the official Orange ROMs.
I've actually successfully installed WM6. It's a lot quicker than WM5, so I'm happy
Yep, WM6 is a lot faster than the official WM5 ROM's.
The WM5 "AKU3.X" ROM's are even faster though and - for now at least - generally less buggy...
Looking at how you say you use your phone, you shouldn't find too much to worry about with WM6 - even this early on (and it looks nicer!).
Glad it went ok for you!
Sub69, Thanks, thanks, thanks!!! My problem was solved with the backlight + power + hard reset... A million thanks friend.
Looking to become a regular member here. With a little time hope I can contribute something meaningful as well

Where to get Radio 1.15 from?

Hi, I've been trying to get hold of a more recent version of the radio ROM for my Universal (Orange-branded SPV M5000), and since my network provider's ROM update doesn't patch up to the latest version I resorted to the links on these forums. However, all the links to version 1.15 of the Radio ROM on the xda-developers ftp server seem to be dead, and in fact just trying to connect to the server root using the links in the wiki brings up a "the server is unreachable" error. I don't know if the server is temporarily down or whether the admins of this site have been forced to take down all links to it.
I have, however, managed to download one of the cooked WM6 ROMs linked to from these forums but hosted on other ftp sites. The one I picked is the L26 WM6 Pro V7 Videocall 2 ROM, which, in its release notes, says that the radio ROM included is 1.15. My question is, can I take the radio_.nbf file from that ROM and flash my device with it, or is that a specifically-WM6 version of the radio ROM which won't work on my WM5 Universal unless I flash it to WM6?
SEARCH for DARKFORCE ROM under windows mobile 6. You should find it included in the package.
---
Is the version of the 1.15 radio ROM included in the Darkforce package any different than the version included in Laurentius26's package? They're both WM6 packages - my question was whether the radio ROMs included in the would work the same with WM5 (I don't want to upgrade the WM6 as I lots of people seem to be having stability problems with it from what I'm reading on here, and I don't need any of the extra functions in 6).
Also, the bug that Bluetooth switches itself off under the 1.15 radio ROM that some people have reported: does it occur under WM5 or just under WM6?

I am not familiar with what kind of RADIO version Leo's ROM contains. I tried his a long time ago, so I forgot. But DarkForce ROM was the first one to release on this site version 1.15.00. It was the source of every Radio version 1.15.00 that you see out here.
The BT problem is in the CE ROM. The Radio ROM has nothing to do with that.
I suggest you read on how to upgrade just the radio part before pursuing anything else. You might end up upgrading everything and that is EQUAL TO A HARD RESET.
BACKUP first is the RULE!!!!
---
Yep, thanks, so I take it that since his is the source it WILL work on WM5 as well? Don't worry, I already read the relevant page on the wiki about how to upgrade the radio without flashing the whole thing! I just wanted to make sure all these WM6 radio ROMS will work on WM5 before doing anything!
Yes it works under WM5. You can update just the radio rom without a hard reset. You will find a guide somewhere here in the forums or in the wiki. I would have to search myself.

Flashing i-mate with HTC FW?

I was just curious about something. Would it be possible for me to flash my i-mate JASJAM with the FW of an HTC TyTn or Dopod 838Pro? After all they are all Hermes PPC's right? Or is that not how it works?
Main reason's that I wanna "upgrade" to an official (not home-made/cooked) WM6 but i-mate haven't released one yet, doesn't look like they're gonna any time soon, and i'm sick of waiting.
Thanks.
I flashed my JasJam with Schap's 3.60 and then added the telstra roms back in (They're here in the forum somewhere). Because the phone has a 4 second+ delay sometimes in waking up, I configured my "autoforward to voicemail on busy" to be 25 seconds instead of the default 15 so that I wouldn't miss calls. Got a bunch of other stuff in it and it's mostly stable. Still forum-foraging for tips and tweaks to make it solid, but I can live with it's quirks.
This thing is, I wanted to run Skype off my JasJam, but apparently it's not available for JasJam's but it is available for the Dopod 838Pro. Both being Hermes PPC's I just got it, so when i downloaded and installed it, it installed and ran fine until i tried to make a call and that was when it just crashed. Now Skype is an application, so i was willing to take the risk, but with firmware, i'm not too comfortable being that experiemental. Plus, despite my technical background, when it comes to PPC's i am quite a newbie, so any comments are welcome.
if u want, u can flash any rom, but follow ALL instructions, read lots n lots, and take responsibility for your own actions or in action as the case amybe.
I have jasjam, ran a variety of cooked, ran htc dopod 838pro, and now using TNT 2.
HTC 838pro was most stable n best, but not fastest nor most functional.

Correct if im wrong, but u must be superCID or CID unlocked to flash ANY rom. Otherwise u can only flash ones for your carrier (i.e. at&t).
In this case just install Hardspl v7 and you'll be superCID and ready to go.
All of this is sort of true:
1. You do not have to be SuperCID if you use Olipro's Custom RUUWrapper. It bypasses CID check.
2 BUT, most importantly, if running Skype is all that you really want to do, your problem is not with the phone ROM, it is with the Skype version. It is a known problem. You need to run an older beta for it to work. Get version 2.2.0.20 and it should work. Seach around this forum, it is in here somewhere - that is how I got it.

SPV M700 Newer Rom

Hi all,
I have the SPV M700 its getting abit old now. I was wondering which newest Rom I can use.
I've got 1.25.000.TE
With Radio version 1.30.00.01
Rom Date: 02/14/07
My GPS is still slow and I hope I can upgrade it and upgrade windows.
new isn't always best
use the search button and start reading
this is the best way to find out
good luck
Tried it
Hi mate,
I've tired it, getting lost. Been away for a whole year :'( went dumb :'(
You could try ADW or NiAx or PDAVIET roms - I've used all three and had good GPS performance. Make sure you upgrade your radio rom too. Your radio rom manages GPS, GSM, WiFi BT etc. and to impact GPS performance you should try different ROM / radio ROM combinations.
IMHO the same radio ROM does not give the same performance with different OS ROMs.
I'm currently using NiAx latest ROM and radio 1.50.08.11 and am hapy with overall and GPS performance (iGo an Tomtom)

If you're looking for a good, stable super lite ROM, I recommend:
Mary v3.7 SL with Radio Version: 1.50.08.11. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369917
I use it with various Spb software (not freeware but well worth buying) including spb mobile shell 2.0 that has a smart scroll feature which I find is far better than TouchFlo. http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/mobileshell/?en
I have had no problems EXCEPT once in a blue moon your device code changes after a soft reset. However, after another soft reset it changes back again, so no problem.
Tomtom works great with it too.
The only competition I see for it is FInixNOver 3.4/3.4Light http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396075
He used Mary's ROM as a base and in doing so has included a fix for the device code change.
Every day I think about changing from Mary to his ROM, but so far I've avoided it as I am so happy with my pda at the moment and worry about a week of nights trying to fix it if something went wrong! He seems to be one of the most respected chefs out there and has a solution for everyone who has an issue. Plus a lot of other clued up people in here have his ROM, which is always a good sign!
A real useful page on all new Roms and Radios is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1951469&postcount=3
Hope this helps, let me know what you end up flashing to!
Mattster.
