There are so many nice themes out there, but after any applied theme, the screen of the phone application, so the call progress and part of the dialpad screen remains green - default HTC theme.
My phone is CID unlocked.
Any idea?
Ok, its easy: with a File Explorer open "Windows" folder and change the file "HTC_CallProgressBkg_320x186.bmp" for another that you like.
fer...
thanks fer, but I didn't find any theme which would have this image I could replace.
The only one I have is the reincarnation of the default green HTC theme, but in blue color (downloaded from this forum). This theme does have the file you mention. I moved the default green bmp, renamed the blue bmp so that the name is like the original file and it still doesn't work.
Even after I removed the green background image, it still appears when releasing the phone application. I cannot understand that
Just take an example with the very nice attached skin here.
changing HTC_CallProgressBkg_320x186

yes man, just run the CID unlock over your excalibur. (should be the right one application attached)
but it will not help you. this is what I wrote and nobody is answering me....even when you overwrite/remove/rename or whatever the original image, it will remain green.

uhm, your sure thats CID unlock and not app unlock. You're gonna have a bunch of people trying to save $40 then complaining that they cant flash their rom now.
actually I did pay the $40 for imei-check and the only thing i cannot change is the green screen
one more question please, i downloaded the files , put it on my storage card but wasnt able to run it any advice how do you do so

I got some pretty sweet splash screens I want to use instead of the default T-Mobile ones. How do I go about editing these? I tried to search the forum before I posted this, but couldn't find anything.
I think the initial boot splashscreens are integrated in ROM, so you'd need to edit the ROM image before reflashing. I think there maybe tools around to help you with doing this, but am not sure.
I'm referring to the screens while the phone is on. Exclamation, info, call, text. All those screens.
All the images like question mark, info, etc.. are in \windows\ dir, just sort everything by type and look for gif's. You can then replace them with your images as long as name and dimensions are the same.
BTW you can change the startup/shutdown splash screens as well, same way, by overwriting those in ROM, without any flashing.
Anyone know the file name of the incall screen? The one I got to replace it is just call.gif and there isn't one in my windows dir.
I overwrote all the splashscreens but they haven't changed on my device. I even did a soft reset after i replaced them and nothing! If I check in my Windows dir they're the ones I just put on there, so why aren't they showing up on the phone?
I've just flashed the O2 premium v2.0 rom to my artemis, and I love it, but I really dont like the animated splash screen.
I tried using the latest version of SplashScreen.exe to customise it, but at the three colour boot screen, the utility fails saying it cant connect to the device. This must be specific to SplashScreen.exe as other utilities flash the phone fine.
So, without that tool, how can I customise the animated start screen, as the \windows folder doesnt allow me to make changes to the files there. Alternatively, if someone can post a utility to flash to a different HTC animated logo that would be great. I'm sure in the past I've seen a very small HTC animated logo on a black background - if anyone has that ready to go with an installer, I'd be appreciative!
Thanks.

just replace the animated.gif in windows folder on your device...
jvc
I tried doing that, but I cant delete the original file - any ideas?
Thanks.
Startup Sound
just overwrite the existing one with your one and you're done.
BTW:
Anyone knows how to get the startup sound working with our Artemis ?
On my Hermes it's working perfect. When i set exactly the same values in HKLM\Software\HTC\StartupAnimation
- volumn and wavFile - as my Hermes and point to my soundfile (it's a wav my windows folder) - nothing happens.
As above, I cant delete the file in the windows folder, so I cant overwrite it either.
Anyway, to work around it, I just copied a .gif file into the windows folder (called it animated2.gif) and edited the registry setting to point to that file, and it fixed it. Bit of a clunky way to do it, but it works!

That was the tool I was referring to, but when I get to the three colour boot screen, it fails to connect to my device Other flashing tools work fine, so it's something specific to this tool...

With the normal Microsoft tools it is not possible to overwrite the ROM files. But e.g. Total Commander can overwrite those files.
jvc.

What type of file are you trying to change? There is a filechanger in my signature below for homescreen cpr file and bronzeres.dll files for the 6.1 sliding panels.
its a dla file. ive installed the zips you have in your sig plus the cab...when i get to the file thru file changer it says no file selected....any ideas?

when you get to the file you want, move to right side of explorer window, you need to have at least 2 files to choose from. Move to the file you want and push Ok on left soft key. If its the first in list, move down to second one and then back to first. For some reason, the file explorer in mortscript will not let you select the first file until you move to another one and back to it, thats why you will need at least 2 dla to choose from. IF you only have one, then that is why it tells you "no file selected". I don't know why its like this, but pocket notepad reacts the same way with its explorer too.
hey showaco, thanks for the response and great work....kudos!
I am playing around with this myself now... And somehow I got the glowing yellow panels working.
So, what if I ever want to go back to the original ones? Thank you.

Just use the original panel that i attached towards the end of the .cpr .dll changer thread.
Hey all,
I had a hard time deciding whether this was worth a topic or not, but it might come in handy for some of you, so here it is...
All one needs is a developer (or student, or chevron) unlocked device and at least one app slot available.
Now if you deploy this xap (based on Heatcliff's Nokia Interop Unlock test) it will remove the splashscreen of whatsapp (that ugly green thing).
The app called Nokia Interop Unlock test or something like that can be removed directly after having it deployed to your device.
Credits where its due, thank Heatcliff for discovering this method.
THIS IS PURE COSMETIC, IT WILL GET RID OF THE UGLY GREEN/BLUE SPLASH SCREEN
UPDATE v2:
This version replaces the original splash screen with a corrupted file, a blanco textfile renamed to a jpg. This seems to work fine and will probably also work on the white theme
EDIT: This will naturally work with other apps also if one replaces the the GUID in the "../../" folder in the xap itself.
EDIT2: For dark themes only. If you rock a white theme, you will need to open the image inside the "../../guid/Install/" folder in the xap for a white image. Version 2 will probably work on the white theme also.
works fine on my lumia 800!
thanks.
Will the splashscreen be restored with an update of WhatsApp?
Yes, an update will probably restore it. Deleting and re-installing htis app will remove it again, though. You should probably delete the app after installing anyhow; unless you're interop-unlocked it will use up one of your unsigned app slots until deleted. The change it amkes won't be reverted upon deletion, though.
I have not had an update of whatsapp yet to confirm. But like GDTD said, I do indeed suspect that the update will also overwrite the splash screens so yes one will need to redeploy this after an update.
IS this purely cosmetic or does it improve app start up speed?
Purely cosmetic. It doesn't remove the splash screen at all, it just replaces it with a blank image.
As expected it does not survive an update.
I will look into the possibility of replacing it with a blanco image, because now its just a black image (its a jpeg). No image at all would be better as that will work on both themes. Unfortunately heatcliffs method does not allow deleting files (duh). So that wont be very straight forward. I will try a corrupted file maybe that will work
Ok my test with a corrupted file was succesfull, I've updated the first post with a version 2. This should work on both themes as it just replaced the jpg splash screen image with an empty jpg file.
Also it does not show a splash screen at all now so it looks like it boots up a tad quicker
Hi, anyone knows someway to change the picture on start screen ? i save the imageres.dll to pendrive and open on my pc with resource hacker but i dont know what to do...i cant find any black theme.....

I downloade the program ModernBack_changer_2.8 on this forum, choose a new image, and click on patch, so the program create a folder with name patch, in this folder contais pictures with name of resorces, i simple open the dll on resorce hacker, and manually change the resorce with the new one, after that i overwrite the dll on my surface, reboot and its ready!
Seems so 'simple' it's strange that no one did yet a program that do all these things

How exactly did you do as the program ModernBack_changer is not compatible with RT ?
You'll only be able to do a memory patch to change the image. Hacking imageres.dll would invalidate the signature on it and cause it not to load next time you rebooted, which would likely break Explorer and Metro (meaning don't do it).
I had came across a tool to do this on W8 a while ago, but I don't remember what it was called. Just be careful, don't use any tool that wants to edit any system .dll directly.
Edit: Ignore this post, I was apparently mistaken.

Most standard codesigning approaches only sign the code section and not the resource fork, which given this result is what I'm expecting may be happening (I've not actually checked out how codesign is implemented).
I assumed that code signing checked the entire files, I seem to have been misinformed. Ignore my previous post.
I've done a little research into Authenticode signing. There are parts of the file that aren't checked. Typically they do not include things like the string tables (that is, those are checked) but image content might not be.
