After a rom upgrade, it never is wise to restore contacts etc from a backup. Synchronize a fresh set from your PC instead. I also use V1.1 and my contacts look fine.

activesync problem after upgrade to HELMI
Hi, should be nice if you can help me in this activesync problem after upgrade:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291917
It's related to my computer, because my jasjar syncronize perfectly in any other pc, do you know if there is a maximum number of devices connected to a pc and how to delete previous one?

works fine now,
for some reason, it doesn't like to restore SPB Backup PIM...
thanks man

Try not to RESTORE for the following reasons,
1. Some apps may not be usable and may hang the phone or may some applications not working.
2. Contacts data format of WM5 AKU2 and WM5 AKU3 onwards are of different format. Restore in WM6, you will not be able to read your contacts.
But once you go to WM6, you have nothing to lose, if restore not successful, just hard reset and do the install all again.
By the way, SBH restore has an option to restore items selectively, right?

Retrieving contacts from a CORRUPTED PIM.VOL

Hi there, before upgrading to WM6, i wanted to sync my universal with outlook to have all the contacts and calendar entries backed up. Active sync showedsuccessful sync, but contacts didnt sync at all. after trying few more times, i thought i leave it, just copy PIM.VOL to sd, as i usualy do, upgrade, and then replace the clea PIM with the backed up one.
the problem started, when my backed up PIM seem to shrink in size as soon as i restart the device. contacts dont open a all. i tried the same pim vol on another universal, and the same problem appears. i simply cant get my contacts back.
what do you think it can be, coz to me it looks like a corrupted PIM.
i was trying to find some kind of PIM editor to get my contacts back, but wth no luck.
is there anything i can do, has any one know the way?
Not sure what your problem is.
But AKU3+ onward to Crossbow PIM.VOL is different from AKU2 PIM.VOL in the data format.

Upgrade Guide -- WM5 to WM6 with Goodlink

Since folks have asked enough times ... below is a simple step-by-step to move over to WM6 and keep your Goodlink functioning:
Upgrade from WM5 to WM6 with Goodlink
Before you do anything, create a backup of your Goodlink application on your SD card (by going to the Goodlink Preferences and choosing "backup" from the list)
Save the backup to your SD card (create and remember a password)
Upgrade to WM6 [see the awesome guides by mrvanx]
Make sure everything is working (including your provider settings for internet connectivity)
Open the backup file that is on your SD Card (called "Restore Goodlink")
It takes a minute or two, will ask for your password, and then start running
You will see Goodlink connect to the net to download all your information
Upgrading from WM6 to WM6
If you are flashing (or re-flashing) a new version of WM6 ... and you already have WM6 on your device working with Goodlink, you do not need to re-create a backup file .. just always go back and restore Goodlink from the backup file you initially created when you upgraded from WM5.
That being said, it seems to work fine if you do re-create a backup file while running WM6 ... you can restore from your newly created backup file too.
Currently known Goodlink and WM6 integration issues
No full integration with the Dialer (choosing "contacts" will take you to outlook contacts, not goodlink contacts)
WM6 Word Completion does not work correctly within Goodlink
I have not been able to do a clean install of Goodlink on WM6 yet ... even using one of the BLACK Roms that has been hex-edited. I have tried a few times and had various issues. The "restore backup" option described above, however, always works fine.

Thanks very much for this wonderful concise how-to. I was afraid I would need to go to my IT admin the next time I flashed my device. I am running WM6 on a Wizard and wanted to relay my observations on the known issues :
1/ My contacts key has been mapped to Goodlink contacts and the click-to-dial feature within it also fires up the GL handler.
2/ When composing E-Mails I do get word completion
3/ I never had GL installed on WM5. Therefore mine is a clean install on WM6. Worked first time.
GL reports its version as v4.9.3.21_EN. Perhaps mine is newer than the OP

Help with contacts softkey on Black 2.0

Made a stupid mistake and deleted the contacts shortcut in my startup folder. I then loaded softkeys! I now have no way of going back to my contacts on the right softkey. I have looked throughout my windows folder for the pcontacts and I can't find it. I love Black 2.0 and won't go back! Don't want to have to reset for this stupid mistake. Can someone help or post their contacts shortcut here. Thanks!

You can create the link yourself with...
:MSCONTACTS?outres.dll,-10000
and then put the shortcut in any place.
Thanks for the reply....I am still in the dark about your answer....do you mean to place this in the registry or somewhere else. I hate to sound like such a noob.
I got it....thanks for the help! You guys are awesome
Contacts won't open!!
I recently upgraded to Black pro 2.0. I love it! However, I used spb backup 1.5.5 to backup my pim info (mainly contacts). Now, when I restore my pim I can no longer open contacts. I tried using the softkey, tried openning it using the phone utility. I tried going back to 2.11 ROM... but the problem persists. I even tried to use other backup programs but still come across the same problem. Other programs that use the contacts database (like Vbirthday) can't access the contacts either. I have Agendus installed and when I go to the contacts in the Agendus menu all my contacts are there, so I think this is a problem in the shell or maybe a registry fix would do the trick... I don't know. I appreciate any help.

Id strongly advise NOT to use spb backup....there are such differences in the new Black ROM that restoring a backup can cause allsorts of problems.
The BEST thing you can do is to get yourself signed up for an exchange account somewhere like mail2web....you get push email but more importantly for you the contacts are synced......so even after a hard reset all it takes is a quick sync and your contacts/calendar/tasks and emails are back in the device.

Thanks for the reply! But I was actually hoping for a way to restore my contacts from my storage card, since I have over 300 contacts it would take me too long to type it all back again. There must be a way to fix this problem. Well... I'll keep trying to find an answer; thanks anyway.

Take the plunge dude once your info is in exchange it is automatically updated if you add or remove a contact etc.....SUCH A SERIOUS TIMESAVER.
and doesnt rely on SD cards or anything else.

Can you export with Agendus and then HR and import?
I'm saying cause seems that restore with SPB Backup dosn't work with contacts in the way it must to do. I try to use in the past, and finally take all my critical information to an exchange server activesync.

Before I upgraded to Black Pro 2.0, SPB backup would work fine even with contacts. I never had any problems with WM5 1.35 ROM. What do you mean by HR? (sorry if this is a stupid question).

HR = Hard Reset
when you say you never had any problem, means that you tested to restore the same backaup before, and this same backup now in Black 2.0 dosn't work?
Or you are trying to restore diferents backups?

Same backup. Won't work in Black 2.0. I did what you suggested (exported a contact from Agendus to my storage card in csv format), HR but can't (don't kknow how to) import it neither with contact nor with Agendus.
Maybe I should just downgrade to WM5 1.35 again. Could anyone tell me how? I tried running the upgrading utility for 1.35 ROM but it doesn't recognize the usb connection. I thought it might be a problem with the SPL 1.40 Olipro and changed to 1.10 Oli... still the same problem. I tried changing it to 1.10 MGF but mtty won't recognize the usb connection either. It's not a problem with my usb port because everything else works fine, including the phone syncronization. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks mrvanx! I'll try it later. But first, one last attempt to solve the problem... maybe the culprit is not Black 2.0 but radio 1.38.

I was wondering why people advise an exchange account instead of simply syncing with outlook. I use outlook to sync contacts and appointments and it works well as a backup... After my Black VI upgrade simply connect and sync. So am i missing something ?

I think you can Import your exported CSV into Outlook, and then sync with TyTN trought ActiveSync.

There are same advantages doing with exchange (like i see):
First of all, you can sync in any place, trought GPRS or 3G, so you dosn't need be connected to your PC to restore your information.
Second, the servers normally has their backup policy, so your information is more secure.
Thirt, every time you change one elemment in contacts or calendar, this change sync on the fly to server, so your information is the same in server and in ppc everytime.
After three years of use, this is the most secure method i find to take this information secure and avaylable.

Thanks for the tips. I went back to WM5 1.35, restored my info with SPB backup and it worked. So I syncronized with Outlook, went back to Black 2.0 and syncronized again... contacts and tasks back to my device and working fine. Now I'll see about this exchange mail. By the way... which is the best one? P.S.: could this problem I had be something of interest to Jasjamming? Since Black is his ROM and had some compatibility issues with various backup programs... maybe he would like to have a look at it. Thanks again.

Contacts is shutting down automatically after Spb backup recovery

Hi,
I just flashed my Hermes to the Dopod WM6 ROM and performed an Spb backup recovery. Now my contacts do show up in the phone app, but my contacts app is shutting down immediatly after I start it up!
Anyone a solution?
Same Problem with contacts after SPB Backup!
I get the exact some problem... I don't know how to fix it, I can't even add contacts! I like new friends but not I can't even use my cool phone to get numbers anymore! Can anyone help me?
Solution to this problem!!!
Hey,
I've found a solution. The problem is that WM6 uses a completely different format to store contacts because of the tight messenger integration.
You can do 2 things to get your old contacts from your spb backup on your wm6 device:
1.) If you've got a second wm5 running device, load the spb backup on that device and sent them over to your wm6 running device through bluetooth or IR.
2.) Haven't got a spare wm5 device? Download the wm5 SDK including the wm5 emulator from Microsoft. Install the package on your desktop, reset your computer and run the emulator. You've now got WM5 running on your desktop pc! You can install cabs and also the spb recovery cab works fine. All your contacts will show up in the emulators contacts app. You can now manually copy the contacts to your wm6 phone (lotsa work!!! The way I did it...) or make a wm6 compatible backup on the emulator on your desktop and run it on your wm6 device. Sorry, but I can't advise you about which program you should use for that, but I know they exist!
Good luck!
Rahza
Yeah, SBP doesn't play nice between rom changes...
Another option is this:
Download PIM backup from here. See attached.
Reflash your old rom, use SPB backup to get it back to the way it was.
Install PIM backup to your old rom, and backup.
Flash new rom, reinstall PIM backup, then restore.
Worked for me!

HTC P3300 WM6 - Problems with adding contacts

Hey guys,
I flashed my HTC P3300 yesterday with the Dopod P800W official WM6 firmware. All went well, and apparently everything was working fine.
I was trying to add some contacts today, and couldn't. It says that "an unexpected error has occurred in this program". Anyone else experiencing this problem ? Doesn't matter if I choose Outlook contact, or Windows Live.
I can edit and copy my existing contacts with no problems whatsoever.
Just can't add any new contacts... =|
Thanks in advance
Nobody experiencing the same issues ?
No problem here...
Hi.
I Run the same ROM as you on my HTC P3300. And i do not have any problem adding contacts??
Maybe you should try to flash it again??
If you restored a backup of the contacts database from WM5, then this is probably whats causing the errors. The databases aren't exactly the same format. I had the same problem, so I scrapped my calendar entries and exported all my contacts to the sim and hard resetted.
Alternatively, sync with Outlook, hard reset and sync again.
