Hi,
Since restoring my device using SPB Backup, I have two copies of each directory (Drafts,Inbox,Outbox,Sent Items) under Text Messages. Only one is used, but it looks messy. Anyone know how to remove the duplicate and unused folders? Manage Folders won't let me do it
Cheers,
Neil
try a hard reset and try restoring again to see if the same will recur, otherwise do a selective restore but of course you may loose your msgs.

Hi There, anybody knows what is the folder (using resco explorer)for the sms draft ?
I have a nasty bug where whenever I create a draft it is not accessible eventhough it says there is some messages on the draft folder.
I can't even delete them.
cheers.
As far as I know SMS messages are stored as files at :
\windows\messaging\*.mpb
nope, still no luck, deleted all the files on the messaging folder. still have the sms draft folder saying there is files on it.
Did you then do a soft reset ?
poutlook.exe is a background process that runs all the time.
You may need to reset your pocketpc to clkear the error.
are you saying I need to do a hard reset and reinstall from scratch ? cause I have a back up in sprite but even if I uncheck the message folder for a restore, it still giving me that crap.
No no...not HARD reset...SOFT reset...poke your stylus in the little hole on the bottom of the unit.
If that doesn't work then I have to assume that some database file (like the pocket version of an outlook pst file) has got itself out of sync.
yeah soft reset didn't resolve anything, I will hard reset later on, not this week anyway. already spent too much quality time with my Xda ( according to my girlfriend)
Same problem - items missing in folders
No items that get sent to my drafts or deleted items are visible once I open the folders. This sure is a large bug IMO. It seemed to happed after a backup from Sprite due to an unintentional hard reset (battery fell out and caused a hard reset)
Use Sprite Backup to backup everything but the offending database, then hard reset, and restore. That way, you won't lose anything else but that problematic database.
Alternatively, you can backup everything, then hard reset, then restore everything but that particular database.
Worked for me.
Clarification
Are you saying you can not get rid of this problem with deleted items and drafts witout loosing all of your SMSs? I have tried most combinations of backups and restores including use of the Sprite CleanMail tool here:
http://spritesoftware.crmdesk.com/a...il.zip&search=Search&area=0&criteria=0&sort=0
I have found I can not selectively restore certain folders from SMS group without reinheiriting the corruptions. Also, can you pm with with the advantages/disadvantages and ropes of custom ROMs, it looks like you have all the latest goods in a unique combination. It is these kinds of bugs that make me want to explore custom ROM combinations.
Partial fix
By scouring the ipaq forums I found a partial fix: http://home.comcast.net/~relmerator/ . It cleared my deleted items properly but not my drafts folder in SMS. I asked for the source so someone can tune it up. Man this bug is driving me nuts.
I just managed to solve all problems on my previous post, but now after restoring a backup while making some experiences. It appeard 2 inbox and 2 deleted items in the text message account . After that and making some more tries i restored again trying to remove and stayed with 3 inbox and 4 deleted items. I tried everything...searching the registry...all...but didn't found a way to delete them...anyone knows if this could be done without formating and installing all again...
what program do u use to back up your information on your device?
Spb Backup...but this happened when i tried to make a parcial restore after having some problems with a today app. And the backup i made after is already with the 2 inboxes and 4 deleted items. He dont replace if there is any messege in the box just creates a new one.
i believe u might have backed up your messages n emails when u did a backed up using spb backup, u shld have left out those so when u restore them there will not b any problem
Already tried twice deleting and not that's why the inbox number and deleted items number keeps increasing...There were an app for WM2003 that was clean mail made by spritebackup for a problem with the inbox that stoped working after a backup. What that app did was cleaning Messaging and the device restored it on the reeboot but unfortunally this app dont work on WM5. Is there anyway to reset the accounts?
Hey All.
With all the great roms out of late it seems all i am doing is flashing my poor little JasJam.
The only anoying thing about it is that i can't seem to see any way to restore stuff like game and program save states.
Just as an example Pocket Informate losses all its contact photo links and you have to go back and relink them all. Another is a game call Tennis Addict where I can't seem to get it to go back to a previous save state.
I have even tried taking a copy of the directory of the game before the flash, then reinstalling it and copying the directory over the top and still no luck.
Is there a seperate place on the phone that this info is stored in.
Or is there a restore these programs after Flashing.
Cheers and Beers.
The only restoring I have been able to do is the entire restore. You just have to make sure you keep track of what backups go to what ROMS. You cant restore an LVSW backup onto a Black ROM. You flash the ROM to what OS it belongs to and then restore the backup.
Nice thought...I haven't ever heard of an app like that for Windows Mobile platform, but I used them for my old razr, slvr, and v3i back in the day...
Try backing up pim.vol and pocketinformant.vol

Where are these files located? I'm working on an application to solve these problems for myself and just uploaded the early beta here...
Settings Savior v0.1
All it does so far is backup and restore registry settings, but files are my next thought. Then possible assisting with application installs.
Thanks,
Rob
Yea i didn't think there was any magic fix for this.
I just had having to start things all over again.
Especially when you have spent hours playing one game.
Cheers

Good idea Let me know how it goes.
I've had good luck with Sprite Software's SpriteBackup. If you do a full backup, do a hard-reset, then run a special program, it will snapshot the "default" state of your phone. Flash the new ROM, and run the restore program (from SD) -- it won't try to restore anything from the old rom onto the new ROM, but it will restore your programs and almost all settings. Check the FAQ on their site, and carefully read and follow the instructions exactly.
Make absolutely sure you have encryption turned OFF before you do the backup, or your backup file will be encrypted -- and your hard reset will blow the key away (and you won't be able to restore!).
I wouldn't try this between different ROMs, like LVSW->Black/etc... but I've had great results from Black 1.0 -> Black 2.0 -> Black 2.5 -> Black 3.
Oh -- make sure you delete your ActiveSync relationships (delete each component separately so it removes all 'synced' contacts, emails, etc, then delete the server), and delete any IMAP and POP3 email accounts BEFORE you do the backup. If you're using IMAP or Exchange, the phone will repull the info from the servers when you restore (just recreate your mail accounts).. if you're using POP3.. well... get your ISP to support IMAP - you'll be happier with it.
Whenever I am trying to restore my SMS file, the programs crash after importing around 400 sms, or dont work at all. Total number of smsm 6500
So far, "SMS to text" crashes after 400+ imports, same as "SMS Backup and restore"
The restore app included in WTS wont work at all.
I had the same problem even before opening the bootloader. Those backup files where generated from their respective programs after importing them.
By splitting the files to smaller ones I am able to keep importing but the import number keeps droping. The last ones have to be around 100 sms per file so as for the up not to forceclose
WTF???????????? I dont wont to have to resplit and reimport 50 or so files
I have the "master" backup files in both xls (SMS Backup and restore) and txt SMS to text
Any ideas, kindly accepted
EDIT
Found the solution, but I dont like it
I wiped out my system, installed SMS Backup and restore and my contacts only and was able to import all messages in 1 go. That said, when I was trying before to import all sms I had 32MB free memory. Exactly how much memory do these programs need to import 6500 sms. 32MB should be more than enough in the first place.
Not tested it, but I assume that after wiping out the device the other programs should work too *sigh*
So whats the moral lesson? import sms before installing anything else.
Hello,
I'm trying to recover some deleted text messages off my phone. I tried a dozen windows programs without any luck. Is there an easy way to scan the files on the phone and pull deleted text messages? Usually Easeus is my go to for data recovery but that software wants me to use kongo root; research shows me that is only good to android 5.0 and this is running 8.0
I tried google, youtube, etc so I'm guessing I'm out of luck.
Any options for me out there?
Sorry for the delayed reply. As I know, most such recovery softwares need us to root our phones first. Then we can use them to help us scan out the deleted text messages and recover them back. Please remember to stop using your phone when the text messages deleted without backup. Cause if they are overwritten, there is no way to recover them back. Of course, if there is a backup of the deleted text messages, you can recover from backup files directly.
