Can anybody port this to universal.
USB host driver
http://a-bishop.com/2006/10/16/enabling-usb-host-on-eten-m600g500m500wm5/
It works on Eten m600 via a cradle which i believe provides power..
Can any body port this to Uni.
afaik you need a usb host capable usb chip, which we don't have (i might be wrong). obviously the eten's usb chip does include host capabilities and this driver just provides the interface between this and the operating system.
however i may be talking bull as its been a while since i read up about this, maybe someone else knows for sure?
I have been informed from a source that the chip in Universal is capable to support USB host functionality. But no driver is there, also an external power has to be provided to the connected device.
I'll try this driver on my Universal.
These drivers hang up the universal

Universal has an USB host, it is working and drivers are present in ROM. But it is used only to conenct to its internal GSM module. The USB port we have on the side is a usual USB slave (not even USB OTG).

Hi
i am sure for alot of people out they have searched for something to make their usb devices work on a pocket PC. i have gathered some information with regard to this topic and i hope that other users will add to it so that there is a greater awareness and mayb it will help someone figure out the best way to create 1 for the PPC
right now the there is no external USB host controller for pocket pc.
the reason we need the USB host is so that we can connect external USB devices. but i believe that we also need to load the drivers for devices as well.
wat i think is the way the device should work is the usb host for ppc should have drivers built into it so that when u connect a flash drive for example it can identify it and then send the necessary info into the PPC so that the PPC will then handle it in the correct manner. thereafter on the PPC we will probably find it as an additional drive.
I think that connectivity will actually work via the SDIO and not via the USB port.
If there are any other senior members that can elaborate on this it will be great, it will shed some more light on this feature.
I personally would love to have this feature, not for any specific external device but just the ability to have interoperability with all my usb devices onto my PPC.

there are usb host CF cards i believe
not sure if anybody ever made to test in a himalaya backpack which have a CF card
thing with usb devices is that usb mass storage one 1 generic driver
so one for external hd's sdreaders and usb keyring would be enough
CF USB host
Hi
http://www.ratocsystems.com/english/products/subpages/cfu1u.html
do you think that it can be converted from CF to SDIO ?
I actually searched for a CF to SDIO converte but no luck, however even if i do find it what are the chance that it will even work!!
anybody knows more about this ?
reo
it could easy brake because of the size diff
another problem is it would require 2.5watt to power a usb host
not sure if the sd interface can provide that kinda power at all
ok, but considering that we can overlook these obstacles will the converter actually allow for the CF USB to work ?
do you no where i can find a CF to SDIO converter ?

I've got a question about "USB Host" as well... I read somewhere, that some processors are capable of USB Host but the companies didn't do the wiring in their devices. and of course the drivers are missing in Win CE.
So my question is: Can I connect USB-Devices to my PDA if I build a USB-wire where I inject 5V from outside and run linux on my device with USB-support built in the kernel?
Hi there,
I was searching the forums for an RS-232 for serial access and can't find any information as I was wondering if there is a RS-232 cable avaiable for serial access. Like the cables RS-232 to USB converter for laptops to config cisco, juipters and Huawei. I have a RS-232 to USB but it is using a regular USB A plug. So the other question is that is possible to use the regual RS-232 to USB converter with gender change, but I don't think there are any drivers for the accessory for WM6. So it sounds like I have answered my own question . BTW, I am using the Kasier and it would be a great help if I can buy one instead of DIY one like -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=257858
Kengie
would believe it is required for such a device to work that the pda support usb host only Athena does that
Thanks. I though that the Kasier has the OTG (yes it does), but you are right. It doesn't support the USB Host features. Thanks.
if you by OTG mean usb on the go then htc dont seem to use that feature in any of their devices even if the cpu have it included it seems they use their own usb chip
Hi
i was wondering if it is posible to get drivers that enable me to plug a external hard drive into my Hermes using the mini usb port?
any info would be great.
cheers
no only usb host enabled hardware can use usb devices
99% of the htc pdas are not usb host enabled
Hi
Can someone answer if USB OTG is supported on the One V
using stock kernel and ROM?
Regards
max
EDIT: After some searching I found that "official" it is not suported
What surprises me is that in the kernel configuration of the stock
kernel all options are set that I would assume to allow OTG
e.g. there is something like
...
CONFIG_USB_MSM_OTG:
Enable this to support the USB OTG transceiver on MSM chips
...
Would be nice if someone could enable this for One V. This kernel project is enabling OTG for One X http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1640532
Otg only works in bootloader....

Actually we are talking here about USB-Host support and not USB-OTG

Isn't it the same?
USB On-The-Go, often abbreviated USB OTG, is a specification that allows USB devices such as digital audio players or mobile phones to act as a host allowing a USB flash drive, mouse, or keyboard to be attached and also connecting USB peripherals directly for communication purposes among them.

USB-OTG also means that you dont necessarily need a powered hub to use it AFAIK
And USB-OTG means that "both sides" can act as a client or a host
From your link above
...
USB OTG defines two roles of devices: OTG A-device and OTG B-device. This terminology defines which side supplies power to the link, and which is initially the host. The OTG A-device is a power supplier, and an OTG B-device is a power consumer. The default link configuration is that A-device act as USB Host and B-device is a USB peripheral. The host and peripheral modes may be exchanged later by using HNP. Because every OTG controller supports both roles, they are often called "Dual-Role" controllers rather than "OTG controllers"
...
Whereas USB-Host means that the android device is always the host
Since the HTC is not providing power on its USB port you always
need to use a powered usb hub in this case.
I am pretty sure that we can have USB-Host on the V since other devices
using exactly the same chipset can do it. But I still need to do some investigation

Hi Guys
See attached screenshot and notice the "mouse pointer"
So it means we will have USB host support!
Actually not much was "missing" the guys at HTC just
"forgot" to register the usb host driver on init
At the moment the "mode" musst be switched manually
between "host" and "peripheral" which means e.g. charger a.s.o
The automatic switch based on using a OTG cable is not working
or I have the wrong cable
SO I was able to connect a active hub with a mouse and it works
Next thing will be a usb storage device
I will still need some more time to finalize this.
This will then continue in the Titanium-KISS kernel thread

max
Lol why do you have an app for screen shots?

Hi
Just a short update
-OTG cable detect working
that means switching between host and peripheral (normal) mode works
automatically. No need for a script anymore
-USB keyboard tested and works
-USB storage is still killing me

Hi
Just found a nice other xda thread about USB host

I have a Chinese phone and a Chinese OTG cable. On insertion of OTG cable the phone volume status bar appears, reducing volume to minimun and leaving to rest for a period removes the status bar. OTG Troubleshooter reports positive USB host support but negative on all three subsequent tests. I am now concerned that the cable is faulty. I am unaware of the technical limitations and because of this I need advice whether an OTG cable should provide the same connectivity with a PC as a standard USB cable. This one connects with my PC with no problem!!
Any help greatly appreciated.

Are you sure your phone support OTG usb? Not all of them do. Regarding using OTG cable with PC, I'm not sure it will work. OTG cable has a few pins shorted together to initiate "host" mode on your phone so you can connect peripheral devices (like mouse, keyboard, usb stick, drive, etc.). By default, PC is already setup as "host" to act in that mode.
some Chinese phone does not support OTG, what brand of phone do you use?

My original post stated that the OSG Host had been confirmed as present and my query was whether an OSG cable would permit connection with a PC because mine will connect. This makes me think that the cable is incorrectly configured (or in other words NOT an OSG cable). Your reply stated that you were not sure, or in other words my query was not answered. I guess I'll just return it as faulty.
