ASUS P550 - help?

Hi,
I have a problem and after doing a massive research I found this forum and I am wondering if someone could help me.
I have been trying to locate ASUS P550 for several weeks now and although it's sold in the UK as Vodafone v1520, it's modified for branding purposes and no good. At least I think it's not good. After talking to ASUS support I found out that the model is also for sale in Russia and Ukraine as ASUS P550, but unfortunately the WM6 on these devices is Russian.
Before deciding on buying the device I wanted to know if it would be possible that someone with the necessary skills and knowledge would be willing to try to change the language to English. I noticed that someone has done something similar for previous ASUS models like the P535. What I had in mind was that I would buy the device, export the ROM image and let somebody have it for modyfying / testing.
I have to say that I don't know much about smartphones and/or PDA-s besides what I have read and that is that the language cannot be changed simply by a push of a button like a normal person would expect. I also don't know much anything about ROMs or handling them, therefore I don't know whether it's possible to modify the ROM at all without the specific device in hand.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

OK, I guess I am in a wrong message board.
I would have paid - and I still would - $100 for this.

I have the vodaphone version v1520 I am not sure what the difference is to the native version but its a great phone very fast and stable.
what do you think the other does that is advantageous and can I help clarify anything at all.

The answer to Your question is actually that after read some threads about the Vodafone branding I don't think that one or the other has any advantages over the other anymore. I just could not get my hands on the v1520 (which is English of course) while I was posting this thread. But now I got one from ebay and it is delivered tomorrow. So no need for ROM cooking anymore.

If you find anywhere to learn and get cooked roms for the device let me know I have searched and searched but cant find anywhere.
the device is good but cooked roms always are better than shipped roms.
I cant seem to find a forum on the device with anyone doing anything with it..

OK, deal. What I was told in another forum was that since the device is so new and there isn't yet an official ROM outthere it's quite too soon to expect to see a cooked ROM. It just takes time probably.

Try removing the battery overnight,then your GPS should come back.

You can get official rom wm6.1 on asus.com in near future.So now you can get some good informations in pdaviet.net or search google.com about rom wm6.1 for asus p550.In Pdaviet.net the newest rom of asus p550 and vodafone 1520 appeared that fix GPS is'nt actived.

pls search this forum, there is some good information on Asus p550,which I have posted earlier.

Actually there isn't any good information in this forum that You have posted, for example in this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=393647 - You promised to share details if anyone was interested and there was lot of people interested, the only thing missing was fulfillment of Your promise. Even after I sent many PM to You, You didn't reply or post anything. That is currently the case.

Hello everyone.
This is starting to become a big mess. At least for me, so i think its better for us to start a thread with a list of available roms and with a description of what new on them , witch is the better boot and radio, etc, for each specific situation.

Yeah.
At this point i don't know which eboot or radio or even rom to flash there are so many threads around and with confusing arguments that i thought i would be good to a concentrated thread with all the necessary info!

hmmm is there any other camera tool? cant even run my... giveing an error and closing it

We Need Our Own Forum!

I am running PDA DXHD1 and phone DXHC4. Everything is running fine, ie WIFI, GPS, etc. But I do agree a designated forum would be helpful for everyone to share knowledge on this great machine.

Yes Samsung i780 should have it's own forum but i don't we will be that lucky. The only non Htc/qtek forum there is one dedicated to and hp device (don't understand why??!) so ...
A question, did anyone tried to flash rom (phone, Pda or eboot) on network sim locked devices? I have one and i'm a bit scared of bricking it. And since there isn't any free unlocking solution available...

I have flashed my orange branded I780, the pda and radio rom and no problems.

maybe we should create something like the (unofficiel) ultimate I780 topic .. with a good startpost where some differences between roms are mentioned are the big bugs are explained / solved with the tweaks available.
just my 2 euro cents

dear forumners i have a ROM question for the i780 (especially for Mr. João Oliveira).
Is it possible to just update the phone (i780) with just some installation rom? what about hardware specifics or tech issues with each phone?
I have a TMN Portugal i780 but have unlocked it in order to use Vodafone PT... Other networks around the globe have released their updates to WM 6.x, 6.5.x. I wish i could do the same.
Any help?

i have a big problem. i have a samsung i780 with orange rom (pbvic2), he wont connect to activesync, when i put the cable usb in, he charge, red led is on, the pc make sound connection, on the phone appears "connecting to host" but nothing. And another problem is that he see the sd card, but the computer wont, i try another card, the card reader is seeing , after i put him in the phone he become invisible on the pc, he corrupte them, pls tell what to do, or maybe i need to change the rom? but how ? becausae i have no pc connection...

i780 E1 ROM

Hi, does anyone has the E1 ROM?
I can comfirm that it is officially released, at least in Singapore. But the upgrade can only be performed at Samsung Service Center.
I was hoping someone has dumped the ROM and I can use mirage to update at the comfort of my home.
The main thing that was updated is the messenger wifi connection issue.

i want to ask about flash ROM for i780.i plan to buy it in China.as i know Windows OS in China has its language on i780 itself,means that i780 in China using Chinese Windows Mobile.now my question is I am in Indonesia and impossible i can operate it in Chinese Windows Mobile.so maybe you know how can make it in English?Flash its ROM or maybe have another way?

dude read the forums... no need to use even search just read the first page and u will see atleast 2 posts with samsung roms..in a word the answer is NO

Erm, why can't you just flash it in the C4 or D1 English ROMs and make it work?

Its russian so keep away if you can´t understand that

wel.. downloaded the file; only installed the supposedly HE1 phone part..version info shows :i780PUHE1 version.. (got a i780XKHA3 PDA version in Dutch)
so.. well, dont really know if its hard the change the showd version part..suggestions for me to test/checkout ?

is this possible flash pda and phone in different version? Stable? I am using DXHC4.

I flashed my i780 with a different pda version the phone version. This is no problem..
HE1 works stable, havent got a lot of time to test it... but I can always flash back.

[Need Help] - HP iPAQ hx2490c

Im using hx2490c with originally WM 5.0
about 1 week ago, i accidentally try to flash to WM 6.5 (Spiaatie version) without notice my model not supporting that version. And i did not backup my original rom. When i try to hard reset, my screen goes blank, white screen.
I already try to search at HP website but not find anything. I try to contact HP Support, but they said no support for illegal ROM flash...
can anyone help me to resolve my problem? is anyone have backup for WM 5 ROM @ ROM dump. please share with me... please...

If I remember right - this is an old PDAVIET rom and this will not work on c series iPAQs.

Do not upgrade ipaq 2790c!
No good for 2790c, and I do advise that no one should attempt any ROM upgrades for that particular model. I am currently suffering the consequences of such upgrade. Still searching for anyone with original ROM to resurrect my baby!

i have recently tried to flash mine just the same and just the same got the white screen. now here is the bit of good info that i have. I have my model that is bricked and i also purchased my wife one of the same. HERS IS IN PERFECT WORKING ORDER! how do i create a rom dump for it so you can post it on here and help everyone out.

Then simply connect the device to your PC. Maybe you need to install the drivers (download from Acer) as well and then just run the setup from the Stock firmware...
