Hi there,
Bro has just picked up an Xda Orbit and I wanted to know if there are any high speed Micro SD cards at 1GB or 2GB available?
Since my Xda2i days, I've been impressed with the Transcend range but they dont seem to do any hi speed micro sd cards - or at least I can't see them listed !
I'm open to other's Sandisk etc but I'd like them to be hi speed cards
Can anyone point me to sites which have them please?!
Cheers!

Right hand side 2gb £49.99 +postage, I bought one just before Christmas all cool.
But note the thread on MicroSD issues on the Artemis/Orbit in other thread - issues with the PDA not SD card.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285511
i can only recommend the card mentioned by ricardoC above. have been using it for about twelve weeks now and had no issue with it at all. you should keep in mind though, that afaik, the speed of a card INSIDE a ppc device is purely dependant on the speed of the device. therefore the stated read and write speeds not applicable. nevertheless i FIND the card to perform faster in my hero in comparison to sd cards inside my mdac one.

got mine here: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270057565199
SanDisk memory products have never given me any problems, plus there is 5 year warranty here in Switzerland.
I used a "standard" SD in my old BlueAngel and when I changed it for an UltraII Sandisk SD TomTom map access/scrolling was a LOT faster. Its true the card is only as fast as the interface but you want to get the max out of it so fastest card you can get is best.

It might be true on a Blue Angel but the standard SanDisk SD card is more than fast enough for the Magicians SD interface so buying an Ultra version is just a waste of money.
Disregard my reply, I thought I was still in the Magician forum.
It might be true for the Artemis though.
...indeed...
high speed micro sd card - update
Hiya
I ordered a 1GB Sandisk Ultra 2 card for my bro's orbit and hopefully it'll work without hiccups and possible corruptions!
My bro's Orbit will be my little test unit and if all is well, I'll get one too ! and the same micro SD card of course!
thanks for the pointers
Cheers, Dennis! West London UK!
Depending on what you want it for note that TomTom's single map of western europe is 900mb - so it will nearly fill a 1gb card, just thought I would mention it.
I use transcend never have any problem with P800w or Artemis
i'm using this brand since Dopod 818Pro or XDA NEO

Hi guys,
I'm thinking of upgrading my 512mb SD card to 2gb, but I'm not certain that the phone (Qtek 9090) will be able to work with such a large card.
Does anyone here have a 2gb card working? Any brands/models that are known to work or fail?
Thanks in advance for your help.
2gb SDCard...
Hi!
I'm currently using a 2gb SanDisk SD Card, everything works great. Oddly enough, I cannot find a card reader to connect to my PC that can read them!?!? I'm still using 2003SE and transfer movies and MP3's to the phone by using the painful multi-hour process of Exploring via ActiveSync. Uggh! This is fixed in ActiveSync 4.1 but ONLY if you are running WM5... Just having 2003SE and 4.1 will still be totally laggy for file copy.
Enjoy!
2gb SDCard...
Hi there, I also have a 2Gb Sandisk card in my XDAIIs, I also have a card reader which I purchased from PC World for £10.
Works a treat!!

Hi! Do you have a brand name or model number of the card reader you mentioned so I can search for it on the Internet? So far I've purchased 2 different readers and neither can speak "2gb" The one I can use for 1gb cards but not 2gb cards is Belkin F5U248 rev.2, so I know that one wont work!
Thanks in advance!
Does anyone know what speed the BA supports for its SD cards?
The transfer speed is limited by the SD card type
The transfer speed should be contained within the card specification sheet
As I understand it, the maximum transfer speed is 22.5MB per second
This is for a 133X SD card, so compare accordingly
thanks for the reply. I just wanted to make sure that there wasnt a limit on the SDIO bus on the BA.
I'm planning to buy a 2gb Sandisk, but i'm not too sure whether the ultra version will work, as the compatibility list on their website only shows the standard. So i might just get the standard one to be on the safe side.
I currently use 4Gb SD card! I had only hard time finding flash card reader for my PC, which can read such a big card
I believe PPC devices has no problem with big SD cards. At least my Mio 168 PPC with GPS (PPC 2003) understand 4G card too.
But I do not believe flash manufacturers X rating. I NEVER seen real speed more than 3 Mb/s on any type of device. My card have rating x133 (22.5Mb/s). And I have no idea on what device and how did they measure that speed?
From the 2g->4gb reports it sounds like sd card size is not so much an issue for the BA, more for the SD->USB adaptor.
I have the same awful USB activesync file transfer rates reported on this thread, despite running WM5, so it sounds like my current adaptor might need upgrading.
Anyway, thanks for helping out, and I now have a 2gb 133x SD on order for next week ;-)
The typical transfer rate is 2MBps
Quotes like 133X and 150X are NOT a multiple of this but the coefficient comparison between the read and write speed
As an example for a 2MB SD card
Uploading 2MB data takes 1 second
Reading data, for that same setup, takes 1 second
For the 133X the write speed is the same, but the read time is 0.4 seconds and for the 150X card it is 0.33 seconds
This also assumes the SD interface meets SDIO v1.01
If not then the 133X and 150X cards take the same time to read as the standard card
2gb Card Reader
Hi there ottGalaen,
My card reader is made by PC Line, I think it's PC World's own brand, the Model number on the back is PCL-CR400.
Here's a link to it...
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/st...null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=818835&category_oid=
If that doesn't work just go to www.pcworld.co.uk and search for PCL-CR400
I hope this helps
Kind regards
Terry

Yo, what type of SD card that you using now (Sandisk Ultra II) ?
Just so you guys know my 4GB SD card is a Transcend 150x.
Hello,
I am a new Blue Angel user (bought it used) and so excited to get the best out of it.
Well, I am trying to upgrade the storage, and trying to buy 4GB SD Card...
I have seen a lot of
"Dane Elect 4GB SD Cards" on Ebay and
"Transcend 4GB SD Cards" on Amazon, and
trying to buy either one of them.. but I am wondering,
-Are they both compatible? and..
-Which would be a better choice?
Your replies much appreciated.
Best regards,
J.

Can you write your experience? have you use a 4GB SD card on Blu Angel?
4gb card
i have a topram 4gb card 150x and all is working ok on my xda 2s with tomtom 6 and mp3s, movies
4GB
I bought a D-Tec 120x 4GB SD Card, had a bit of doubt as I have never heard of D-Tec.
However, I received it today, and so far it works fine! It recognises as 4GB.
To clarify this a bit more for people -
There are two types of SD cards right now:
SD (1.1)
SDHC (2.0 - HC stands for high capacity). A good primer on the changes can be found here: http://www.sandisk.com/sdhc/SDHC.pdf
Basically, what you need to know - any card that is regular 1.1 (8mb -4GB) will work in the BA. Any card that is 2.0/SDHC (4gb -32gb) will NOT work, as 2.0 is NOT backwards compatible.
The problem here, as you may notice, is that some 4GB cards are teh 1.0 version, and some are the 2.0. If you are not careful, you may buy the wrong card, and end up with something you can't use.
Now, it is possible that some SD devices can only address values smaller than 4.0GB. But, assuming the device is FULLY 1.1 compliant, a 4.0 1.1 card should work just great.
Here is an example of the differences -
This is a 1.1 card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820183017
This is a 2.0 card:

Yes, very good card. Works perfectly. Good warranty and 100% functional. No blemishes. Its only the ROM that shows it as 2GB but you can hold 4GB of data on it. The camera only writes images to the card if there is some data on the card first. My Universal also recognises 8GB SD cards from Samsung which are also amazing. I can watch DVD's on my Universal with the 8GB card, all i do is copy everything from the 4.7GB DVD and paste it in the 8GB card and pop it into the Universal and use some DVD video player i have,,, i think it was tcmp. Amazing quality and sound on headphones and speakers.
In 4GB as you mentioned these Q memory cards are really awesome. Another good one would be 4GB SanDisk Extreme 3 which is very fast. 4GB in mini-SD also works on the Universal.
I prefer 8GB SD from Samsung the most. It can be purchased for less than $200 in Shanghai and HongKong and most of Japan.
By the way please take note that Samsung and Sony are collaborating to make a 32GB card... i dont know if it was SD or what. Anyways keep looking and you will find interesting things every day.

I got my SanDisk Extreme 3 4GB SD card for $80. A very good price because 2GB SanDisk Extreme 3 from Sandisk's website costs $100-120 or something and some places $200. mini-SD at 4GB is $170 or something.
8GB Samsung price won't fall buddy. It will remain above $200. It is unique and rare item and not available in stores. Only available in Shanghai, HongKong and Japan. Place your special order from eBay or any other website, you wont regret it.
I regret one fact that I came to North America and this small continent is isolated from the rest of the world in terms of development, technology, society and economy. Asian and european countries have the best in technology and we always got to get stuff shipped from there. Infact stats from Unicef show that Canadian and American economies will rapidly fall compared to the rest of the G8 countries.
WoW!!! The Q Memory 4GB SD Card works well with Helmi's AKU 3.5. The camera application works and stores the pictures directly to the card.

>.< Didnt i already tell you that. Anyways i dont like keeping many cards and swapping them all the time. Right now i have 4 cards adding up to 16GB of memory... grr i wish i could have done that with 2 x 8GB. I was concentrating on getting mini-SD cards and forgot about the 8GB SD cards. I have 2 x 2GB mini-SD, 1 x 4GB SD and 1 x 8GB SD. I wonder if there is any other type of memory that can be used with an SD card adapter. Micro-SD is way too expensive and not required.

Just get them from ebay. Search on ebay for "8GB SD" or call Samsung and ask them. Pictures dont mean a lot. And you wont be able to find it in 90% of stores in democratic countries because the price is inflated 100 times the original price. Probably like $500 in US.
Hello! I called the customer service of O2 today. It says that a storage-card (MicroSD) for the XDA Orbit cannot bei bigger than 512 MB. I cannot believe that but is this correct? Does anybody know the maximum size for a storage card?
Not true - my Orbit runs fine with a 1Gb card, as does my MDAC3.
I am happily running a 2Gb card in my Orbit
Where's the limit?
What about 2GB or 4GB? Will they work with the XDA Orbit?

Hi,
I'm not as experienced as some others on this forum... I'm sure they'll correct my info
I spent a day or so seraching for info before I got my card, and FWI here are my notes:
2GB fine.
4Gb may be problematic.
Thickness of SD card may be a problem. The latch/Phone card has to be correctly clicked into place around the card.
Some makes of card seem better. Sandisk HIGH SPEED seem to be good.
I've got a 2Gb version and it's ok, but read others experiences in the forums.
I got both Lexar and CNex tools to check formatting could be done with full control and also to provide recovery possibility.
Hope that may help.
damned micro sd card
please can someone help?
i have a 1gb sandisk micro card which is being reported by my orbit as 512mb(minus FAT). i put it into my computer and it is clearly 1gb. i have tried putting more onto the card via the orbit, and it says "no more space", but it is fine via the pc. what's going on?!?
thanks in advance,
Tom
Maybe you should try WM5Storage and format SD card on PC. There is detailed instruction how to do it on forum.
afaik there are no 4gb micro sd cards. 2gb is max for them atm
I sell 2gb micro sd for the orbit on a daily basis and had no problems with them, I even use one myself.

not true i have one and its working!
Mobile 2007 .... what make and how I was under the impression 4GB were not compatible?
I'm currently using a 2GB Sandisk microSD card and it is perfectly working.
Regarding 4GB microSD cards, they are called microSDHC (High Capacity) and as far as I know, the Artemis is not able to read from of write to them.
That's what I thought but it appears mobile2007 has got it to work?
I've got a 1gig with all sorts on it. I think 2gig is the biggest at the moment.

If what you say is true, you'd have made my day
Hello everyone,
I am looking for someone who bought this card as well.
It is a Samsung OEM 4GB card, which is supposed to be 150x
Unfortunately all I can get from it is:
2MB/s write speed
8-9MB/s read speed
I tried 3 different memory readers to be sure I am not limited by them for some reason.
150x about 22-25MB/s is far away from what this card can perform
I’ve found some other guy doing similar tests.
http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=455418
He’s results are very low comparing to advertised specs.
eBay seller mr. fastmemoryman is strongly stating that it is 150x and they tested it, however he does not explain how he managed to obtain that results.
He insists on sending in back as it is broken in his opinion. Doing so will make no difference as I bought from him as well 8GB version of that card. This time from USA, and not UK. After I did it I read it is not supported in Universal as it is SDHC
So 2 different cards, 3 different card readers …. Still no results even near 150x.
Btw. Can you post guys post your results. Just copy some big files to and from memory card. Preferably write to and then copy to different location as it might be cached in ram and that would false results.
I am gathering evidence to report him to ebay. They might be some cheap fakes or he might be just misleading people with specs.
Cheers to everyone from this forum, it helped me a lot in my early days of having Universal.
Transcend 4Gb 150x
Hiya,
Just wanted to say off the subject, I've just bought a Transcend 4Gb 150x and it's performing really well on my XDA Exec. Just thought if you don't have any luck with your Samsung, it's a viable alternative...
Best of luck with your tests!
Come on guys, could you please post some results from cards you bought?
I believe there is a lot of discussion about SD Cards on the Universal Accessories. Maybe others don't want to respond to a repetitive question.
I am looking for soemone with 150x Samsung OEM, which you can buy on ebay to verify my results.
I did use search button and checked few threads, but did not find any with many results.
I am just wondering which 4B SD 1.1 not 2.0 would have write speed of 5-10MB/s and not 2MB/s like the one I have.
oh dear, i also ordered an 8GB samsung 150x from fastmemoryman and like you it too is being sent from the US. How long did delivery take for your card? Soon as I receive mine, i will post some results as vista does show the actual transfer rate from PC > SD Card.
Ordered 21st of Jan and got it yesterday much more than 15 days.
8GB is about 4MB/s write speed and 4GB is 2MB/s .... but not 15 like advertised hehe.
4GB SD OEM from Fastmemoryman not 150X
I've had exact te same experience (same card from Ebay, same - slower - speed and same reaction from mr 'Fast'memoryman), and decided to let it be. At the time I bought it, it was cheap and I can live with this speed.
