FTP Uploads Folder - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

I was browsing through the ftp and it appears there are tons of stuff in the Universal Uploads folder. If someone in here is able to verify that all the stuff in there is good (well good as in meaning no virus's or fake files) then let me know i will jump in and move the stuff into "Safe Heaven". Since im not a Universal user i cant verify them myself, but i do want to get the ftp cleaned up a bit so its easier to find the stuff people want.
Universal Upload Folder

Most of the AKU3 ROMs directory is ok. "Uni_AKU3_WWE". I have try Indra, Ivan & Helmi. My friend tried Jwrights.
Most of the Radio directory is ok. "Radio". I have used the 1.14.10 & the 1.13.00
HELMI_UNIVERSAL_VISTA_BOOTSREEN_PACK.rar is ok.
Seems like a lot of stuff are missing or is it moved to somewhere?

Hi, I can verify Helmi's rom AKU3.5 latest version, radio 1.14.10, CreateBootScreenPackage.rar and MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe (under Uni_Tool folder) are all working and free of virus.
I'd like to have CreateBootScreenPackage.rar under Universal folder out of Uploads cause I'm planning to link it from Universal's wiki.
Sergio.

I understand the need to clean up the ftp folders but if the files are moved away from their present folders then almost every link to files in the upload folder will be invalid. That means that allot of users will be asking again and again for the files. Just thought I'd share.

Then they will have 2 options:
1. People can update their links to the point to the Universal folder and not the upload folder.
2. People can look be proactive and look in the Universal folder for what they are looking for.
By moving them to the regular universal folder it will prevent people from deleting files that may be of use. I am probably going to start moving files today!

Yeah. I believe you're right. I completely forgot about the fact that the Uploads folder is open to the users. Sorry about that.
By the way, have you seen the WM5NewMenu and the Close app software in any of the folders? Thanks

New App for the Universal Tools-Programs Folder
Hi. I was looking for this software, the WM5NewMenu software and a member gave it to me. I've installed it and it's working great. Here's the link to the forum and I've attached it as well.
Btw if you get the CloseApp software please post me the link. Thanks.

Tool_and_programs folder in Uploads folder
I have added a folder in the uploads folder called "Tools_and_programs".
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Universal/Tools_and_programs/
In that folder I have put in four programs:
Currency_Converter_2005.zip: This is a free and really good program I found online.
ftp://xda:[email protected]_and_programs/Currency_Converter_2005.zip
OxiosMemory-CloseApp.zip: This is the close app and hibernate app that is included in most of the AKU ROMs.
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Universal/Tools_and_programs/OxiosMemory-CloseApp.zip
spv_m3100_orange_homescreen_194.zip: This is the Today screen from the Orange ROMs.
ftp://xda:[email protected]_programs/spv_m3100_orange_homescreen_194.zip
WM5NewMenu.CAB: This is the program/tool from most of the AKU ROMs.
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Universal/Tools_and_programs/WM5NewMenu.CAB
I have put up these programs to share with the community. However until it's moved to the main Universal folder out of the Uploads folder I am not held responsible for any manipulation to these files. The modified by date on the files when i put them up were: 24.01.2007 3:31PM for the Currency zip file while the other three were: 24.01.2007 3:20PM.

Where is radio 1.14? I am looking at ftp://[email protected]/Universal/Radio/ and the highest radio is 1.13 and it says T-Mobile Germany. Is it safe to use also when not in Germany? And were is 1.14?

FYI:
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Universal/Radio

Here's the working link
Radio in upload folder
The date on the file matches the one that I have on my PC and which is installed on my set so I'm guessing it's the same. Could have sworn that was in the Universal folder instead of the Uploads. There's a Radio named "1.4.10" ... I'm guessing this is a typo? Since it's in the main Universal folder that means that its real? Anyone try that file?

The date on 1.4 is 15/11/2005, the date on 1.14 is 23/10/2006 and the contents differ.... so I guess one is indeed 1.4 rather than a typo!

I searched the Microsoft site for the knowledge base file and well it's a Wireless LAN API fix/patch/program. It's used on a Windows XP machine so you should delete it. I have not idea why someone put it there. Must have been by accident.

Path problem?

Hi there,
I noticed when trying to open a file with for instance pqview, I can only see the my documents directory. I know there´s a fix for this somewhere on this forum, I only have not be able to find it with the search feature...
Does someone know what to do?
Thanks
Anyone any idea?
Please please? I know there´s a fix for this somewhere on this forum. Just can´t find it. Would really appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction
for starters...
update ur signature. tell us ur phone version ur rom ur radio and the details of who cooked the rom.
second more details on ur question such as the app u were using to open with.
i dont have this problem. the apps always show two three or four options as to base location to choose from.
either my device. storage card. network. or extended rom if unhidden.
these r usually located at the top left as a drop down.
u may have lost ur sd card... if indeed that is where ur looking.
in the end dude... urnt a noob with that many posts either that or u have been flamed some.
first signature. then lots more details. we r not mind readers n dont have time to bugger around with people who ask such half baked questions with inadequate details to give u an answer.

Thanks for the replies. I'm using the LVSW version WM6, of 26th march, for the Hermes. The program which has the issue, is pqview.

I don't find the build in app easy. To zoom for instance, one must go to options, zoom. I like to see thumbnails as well.

The attached picture is printscreen of the instructional flash presentation there which tells how to open a different directory. In short to open a directory other than My documents there is a way: In Pqview tap file>>Open Image>>you see open file screen which offers my documents folder for browsing, if you tap the screen directly above left top edge of this box you will get dropdown box in which you can choose to browse : your device (which means you can browse further for whatever file you have on your phone) or My documents. See attached screenshot. It does not show the caption of the current folder for me but you can clearly see where to tap if you want to open a file wrom within PQView. I managed to open some pictures so you should be able to do so too.

TO:Schaps , ALL ROM COOKERS (you have more than 200 unneeded files in Windows Folder)

Dear Schaps,vp3g,Bepe,its right,Sleuth and all of You Good People
the rom kitchen packs all the DSM and RGU files that we need to build the OS only in the rom when you creat it, i am talking about more than 175 DSM files and 25 RGU files (with size of500byte-2KB) in the Windows folder wich makes the rom and the windows folder slower a little bit , you can delete all these unneeded files after you build the OS then search all the DSM,RGU files in the rom folder before you create the rom because they are not more in use and then create the rom .
1.make your rom as usual
2.Start BuildOS.exe
3.Delete all the dsm and rgu/Boot.rgu files and then start the CreatROM.bat
NOTE:

I am Speaking about the Rom Preformence without this files included in it, and to help each other you can share this files ithout including them in every Rom , Give it a try and you will notice the Defernce in windows folder opening speed

Interesting! For those of us who are just learning the cooking process, say, using Pandora, how would we go about doing this ... or is it not really possible with the automated kitchens?
Does removal of these files have any other implications? For instance, would their removal make it impossible to dissect the ROM and rebuild it using one of the kitchens? Any other ramifications?
Regards,
-pvs
I intended it to be like that. It's not as slow as to many cooked apps inside windows folder. We're a community of learners here. It's better for everybody to catch everything up and learn how we do it. I know some cooks like to delete every RGUs so it will be a little harder to be hacked.
go get a black rom then. those do not have the unneeded rgu files. those come in handy bc if they are not there u cannot package the rom once its dumped. that doesnt mean u still cant recook it but schap lets the rgus stay so u can recook based on his rom. the dsms i believ u cannot remove even after u cooked ur rom.
I don't delete mine because it makes it easier for people to make their own ROM derivatives by using package tools developed here.
Aye, the rgu files in DIY kitchens are very useful for tailoring to your own requirements. Dunno about other pre-cooked ROMs by the XDA-Dev chefs but I wouldn't want to not have them in the kitchens.
So, I hope it's clear now why we did not delete ours, ok. We are helping each others in this field. If everybody keep it secret then there will be no Helmi's, Schap's, Ollipro's, Sleuth's, JJ, VP3G's, mine etc.
"WE ARE A COMMUNITY"
I was talking to a hermes chef about this issue not to long ago, and he said he'd happliy donate all the missing rgu's to anyone who asked. So I guess it depends on the sort of character that your dealing with as to whether rgu's were removed for speed benefits or as an anti-tampering measure.
The reason a speed difference exists is because your device constanty scans the WINDOWS folder for files. The less files it has to scan the less time that is devoted to this process.
Some chefs do employ this tactic as an anti-tampering measure. Some even go so far as to put all of your files on one dsm file. Claims of evolution past the use of dsm files surrounded this release, draw your own conclusions about that one. Chef's who employ this anti-tampering measure are in essence altering someone else's intellectual property (IP). Anybody who has had anything to do with the legal side of IP will know that it is a grey area at the best of times. So the scenario of adding your IP to someone else's IP raises many ethical and legal issues.
So just to summarise, if you do remove those files for speed purposes then thats acceptable, to do so as an anti-tampering measure is not acceptable. Sorry I took so long to explain my point.
Sounds like a good idea. Delete all the DSM and RGU files to increase performance, then post them in a zip when you release the ROM. That way, those who want to learn/modify it can, and those who don't want their device cluttered with crap they don't need don't have it.
We have to look at how developers do it. They also did not delete the RGUs. Why?
list of this rgu's?
Could anyone then give a list of these rgu's that we can remove and how are we to remove them... for speed purposes...
thanks!

I can't remember where to read that but surely in this forum, you can savely delete all the .rgu files after rom dump creation (i mean delete those .rgu in the temp folder after running buildos tool) as all required registry for each package have been merged to default.hv and user.hv. Just simply go to the temp folder and make a quick search on *.rgu and delete all.
For .dsm, it will be best to kept all the .dsm files in the ROM for the device to run properly.
For instance, I have tried to delete all .dsm file when modifing a ROM to suit my own use, after deleting all .dsm, the activesync stop working (keep say connecting when plug to PC with USB cable). when put back all .dsm, it works perfectly.
This is just my personal experience on .dsm deletion, if anything i am wrong, please correct me. Also please share your view in .dsm files, i have googled it for long but still cannot get an idea of what it exactly done.
hope this help, cheers.
AFAIK
You can delete all rgu files, no difference
but try to do the same with ALL DSMs and you'll see the difference
you have to leave DSMs for at least SYS packages, but maybe not all of them. Or make just one DSM for all, not sure if it will work
EDIT: sorry, ctrlaltdel already answered above
How do you delete files that are flagged as being in the ROM once it is already installed on the phone?
i tried to delete the DSM's out of my own dumb curiosity... and... it broke.... so, dont delete these.

I do it for the same reasons, I try to split every component of my ROM into packages with all details in RGU files, to make the kitchen as easy as possible.
I don't know about the improvement after deleting those files, but for sure you mustn't delete DSM files, and concerning storage space I don't think you will save a lot by deleting RGU files.
if you're hard up for storage, I've found that you can delete quite a few files from the phone. I usually get rid of all the help files (they are listed at htm files). open each one to make sure you dont need it. I then delete all of the wav's, wma's, amr's, and mid's that I KNOW i dont want or need. Then I delete the one movie that's in the ROM. Then, i go through EVERY png, jpg, and gif file and remove the ones that I know I dont need. I use an aftermarket dialer and an aftermarket comm manager so that pretty much allows you to dump ALL of the dialer/comm manager pictures as well as the indialer ones. I get rid of all of the files listed with "I-8" at the beginning of their name, but, I dont have a camera so you have to be careful with these. I dump all of the EVdo Files (as the phone doesnt' do EVDO) as well as the 1xrtt ones. I have broken my phone (not bricked, just HORRIBLY slow) once so I'm pretty much not affraid to test to see what can go (as evidenced by my post just prior to Schaps).
bottom line: if you want to save space, you can. You just have to go through the rom file by file and delete what you KNOW you dont need. Keep a backup of the ROM and, if it doesnt work, reinstall and try again!

ROM has my old Ringer!!

I am trying to dig through an old summiter ROM to extract ringers but can't find the ringers. I am looking at the ROM using WinRAR, but there is some NK file that is the largest of all; are ringers in there?
That is noob I know but I haven't broken up a ROM since the old Summiter days, and am lost.
What tools are there to break up a ROM to see the indivudual files in them?
I saved you the trouble as I keep those on my SC. Here's summiter's wavs and themes.
(I'm such a pack rat, keep every ROM Summiter, Faria, Molski and the rest of the rat pack ever released (and many that never made it to being released)
Enjoy!

TOOLS
BuildNB.bat

The inbox appears empty, although the message number (552 messages) is shown on the bottom. As other users have reported restoring successfully, I believe it might have to do that I have 2 subfolders under ''inbox''.
Anyone got an idea on how to overcome this?

Looks like it was missing registry keys in the base. I added them to the package.
Here's the updated package - if you can test I'd appreciate it and if it works I'll add it into the update.
anyone feel like uploading to some mirrors? this could take me all day w/ rapidshare
thanks and great work, matt.

[APP][UTIL]wmDownloader

wmDownloader v0.2
This application allows you to easily download files from One-Click-Hosters like rapidshare. It can be used to download your files overnight without use of PC, but remember to plug your PocketPC to charger.
I recomend turning of not cheap GPRS data connection in case of WiFi lost connection.
Application using michyprima's manila SDK.
User guide:
After first start go to "Config" tab, select destination folder for your files and click "Save". Now you can add files in "Files" tab or by editing file "files.txt" and then reloading it using "Menu->Reload files.txt".
When you added some files you can start download process. Files will be removed automaticly from list after download.
Known bugs:
- not all rapidshare error messages are parsed
- directory browser can't create new directory
- some minor UI bugs like formatting timer
Change log:
v0.2
- code prepared for multiple upload websites
- added config for download folder
- new UI
- .NET CF 3.5 used
v0.1
- initial write

Nice idea, will test it.
edit: Works, but the problem with my device is , that i haven´t got a Storage Card, it called "Interner Speicher" on my german Diamond. So the files will download only to device storage -.-
Another problem is, that the device turn off, when I am downloading, so it would be nice if you can put in a function, that disable this, during the app is running.
And of course if possible more hoster support, for example netload, upload..
Thanks and this is another link

Rapidshare downloader.rar
Many thanks, elektro255, it simply WORKS!
There is a file, that for the past weeks I never got a chance from crapidshare to downlead it,I was thinking that the site will never give a slot for this file. But last night your lite tool did it. After about 20 times trying by itself, it downloaded the file while I was sleeping.
Here's some minor issues and suggestions:
Like others found, in my Chinese ROM, it created a folder and downloaded the file to main memory.
On my QVGA device, the font size for displaying details is too small.
Is that possible in future release to make it work with other sites like mediafire etc. I don't really have demand for this myself, but maybe others have better suggested site.
Last thing is that your app does not have an icon and the shortcut looks not good in start menu. If you want to keep the tiny size of it and does not want to include another file into it, you may just use one of the system icons that comes with shellres etc.
Anyway it already did what is expected to do.
Premiumaccount and "Speicherkarte" support - would be nice

Hi,
I made simple app to download rapidshare.com files over night.
1. App is just pre pre alpha version but works for now
2. I'm not planning to continue work on this app as long as it works fine for me [but if you have good idea what can be included in next version you can write on this topic]
3. For this app is required \Storage Card\ folder.
App written in C# .NET 2.0, tested on HTC Topaz
Downloaded files are stored in \Storage Card\Downloads\
Rapidshare links are stored in \Storage Card\Downloads\files.txt (after edit via external editor, app have to be restarted)
I advise to disable GPRS connection (to avoid big bill in case of wifi disconnected) and to conect charger

This software doesn't support Premium Account?
Software is working fine on qvga...but fonts are pretty small...if possible make it user freindly...thanks
Thank you for the excellent program. I apologize for my English. Not bad, it would be in the input line to copy-paste, and a great author, please do similar programs on letitbit.net and depositfiles.com. Many thanks in advance.
Thanks for the good job! Could you make it possible to choose the directory path to save the file?
Nice work Bro
Small little app but works like a champ!! Works just like rapidshare auto downloader (for those who don't know, just google it coz this is a really convenient software for those who use rapidshare often) but in windows phone version.
Nice job
I decided to continue work on this application. So v0.2 you can download in first post.
Currently I'm working to support other One-Click-Hosters like hotfile, so check this thread time-to-time.
This seems like a really neat program, will be using now!
Thanks a lot!

Search
Hey great idea, but yea writing the web address is a pain, copy n paste would be good, but how about incorporating search!!!
Maybe hook up to a few search sites, use their code, and then be able to click on it, which inputs the address into what you already have!
Just a thought lol
Poodz
The lack of copy and paste is the one thing that annoys me about an otherwise great application!

You probably know this already and it won't help you much neither because it is java but anyway... http://svn.jdownloader.org/projects/show/jd
Awesome! I really got impressed when I saw that somebody actually make a downloader for WM. I have a question though, does this work on non-touch devices? [i600, HTC S620/Excalibur]
