Trying to modify my rom! - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

happy new year folks!
its almost 2007! in this year i would like to challenged myself by modifying a rom and eventually making my own rom! so with that said i need HELP!
i don't have any programming skills so its really a big challenge for me!
is there anyone that can shed light on my conquest?
i would like to start slow by maybe:
1. changing icon images - i think this is simple?
2. changing font sizes, colors and types on different program - a little bit harder i think?
3. changing program background images - i have tried this using a smartphone and a registry editor but on a ppc, i haven't!
4. changing scroll bars - now this i think is hard!
i think this is enough for now! anyone can give me any ideas and help is very appreciated!
thanks so much and have a very HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL XDA-DEVELOPERS MASTERS AND MEMBERS! !!!cheers!!!

Could use some help WM6 \windows\autocorrect.0409 issues

Guys ---
This one I have about a week or 2 into trying to fix, and also headed to the dev of the app I use, KAI Autocorrect. This is a killer app which is much like the BB autotext which allows shortcuts of typing to be translated.
Example -
bb Blackberry
thxm Thanks Much
Well I have flashed every ROM because I thought I had this working in WM6, and am certain I do/did in WM5. The "ISSUE" is in WM6 every ROM I have seen the file is no longer called "\windows\autocorrect" -- but "\windows\autocorrect.0409"....
The file is not only hidden/system - but worse appears to be being written to ROM so I can't get it out of the way. It took some time and thought 0409 was perhaps a Rev - but think its the english keyboard layout.
Guys - this one is killing me I guess if there is someone way smarter than me, it would be beyond appreciated if there was a way to get this thing out of ROM and the name changed? Not sure if that can be done after the ROM is baked or not.
I am hoping the DEV could make the change but I am not holding out a lot for that, and honestly have yet to find a single app that can do this with WM vs AutoCorrect.
I would be VERRRRRRRRRRRRRY GRATEFUL if someone could help me with this. I think if the file simply was not on ROM, or heck in my case did not even exist and I copied/pasted one I would be fine. The app not only looks in that file (which it does not use autocorrect.0409) but also makes the adds to your dictionary in it.
So much thanks --- one file - so much pain
I would really appreciate the tips --
Thanks
Chris

Colour Icons on the Taskbar

Is it me, or do the threads associated with modding the taskbar get really confusing, really quickly?
Talk of sdkcerts, dlls, etc etc, threads getting edited and changed for good reason, but I'm just confused! I'm no numpty, I've been around pdas for years, but I find this impenetrable.
Any chance for a step by step from start to finish on what to do - or is it not that simple? I'd imagine it'd be sensible to point out the different gubbins that need to be tweaked for vga and qvga.
Thanks in advance, if someone would be so kind as to help me out.

Keyboard Creation

Hi guys, no more stupid questions, i hope
I have recently managed to get a GBC emulator working and i was thinking how much easier life would be if i could create a small keyboard that i could use to press.
Any ideas on where i could read up regarding creating a keyboard, or whether someone has beaten my thought process to teh punch ?
regards
You can create one by just developing a simple application that will be a tranparent form, without menubars, titles and etc. then add a tranparent frame on the place that you want the keyboard and put buttons or ImageBoxes as the keys.
Also remember to make the application OnTop
If you want I can suggest some tutorial to read about tranparency, hiding menubars and tiles..., but all in C#
Enjoy and Good Development!
sob sob sounds so intense
but yes tutorial me
im currently building an arcade machine though and im heading overseas and was hoping to have the little proggie downloaded from somewhere
but if you think its easy to make a little graphic representation of the keys of a gameboy and use that as my keyboard ... hit me up
First of all: Which language you use to develop for WM?
?
Is the code possible to right in c++?

[APP] RPG Friend - Dice Roller

After a few years as a member, I felt it was time to give back to the community. So here it is.
My first mobile application.
For now it is a simple dice roller for role playing games. It is avalaible in french and in english.
It should be compatible with all resolutions, but it was mainly designed for VGA and WVGA.
It was inspired by Pocket Dice Master. I plan to add some features in the near future, some of wich are:
- set a color for each number
- lock some dice before a reroll
- add shortcuts to dice profile
- add vibrations on roll
- add sound
- and more...
If you have other ideas or request, do not hesitate to submit them.
As you will see, I am not a graphic designer, so if anyone is interested in improving the eye candy, I would gladly appreciate the help.
And lastly, if someone wants to translate the soft in another language, PM me and I will send you the files.
Enjoy
Note: You will need .net CF 3.5
Reserved for future use
Thx! Been looking for something like this! Shake to roll would be a kinda cool option
Good idea! I'll try to implement it in the next version.
WOW looks great!
Me and my friends are realy into D&D so this will be helpfull
I think a friend of mine will be glad to helpout with graphics, If you add me on msn:
post4gabe[at]hotmail*dot*com
Maybe we could talk about this..
Great Greet Giblet
Hope you still plan on developing this program further....not many good dice rolling programs out there...thx!
Very nice app. Looking forward to future versions!
thanks for sharing !!
looks nice
Keep the work!
It doesnt apear the install screen im on hd2.
It worked perfect on my Kaiser but I had some side effects!
Your application interfere with the font of another application I'm using: WMLongLife from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478519.
Before installing the RPG Friend my WMLongLife went like this:
after installing RPG Friend my WMLongLife looked like this:
I tried reinstalling WMLongLife to see if returned to normal font but did not.
Then I tried to uninstall both and reinstall only WMLongLife but the font continued.
I just got back to normal after a hard reset and recover my files with a backup I had. The funny thing is it only happened with that software. I took a look at the whole system and no other font has changed!
Same issue as bernabap
Have the same issue, actually. My Facebook app is in that font now. Lucky I don't use the FB app, so I won't have to hard reset.
Maybe there's a way to isolate the font itself?
I am using the HD2 on T-Mobile.
Can you add the ability to reroll over a certain dice value
And to be able to save different sceemes, i.e. only d6, with 6's rerolling?
Yes I would love for this app to have the following:
1. Ability to roll multiple dice at once.
2. Shake to roll
3. Graphics actually showing the dice rolling and stopping on the numbers. There is a nice iphone app that does this.
Font problem
Yes the font problem makes the program absolutely unusuable. It has to be fixed.
But you do not have to hard reset! Just go to your Windows folder into the Fonts folder and delete the dragon font. No reset necessary!
If you delete the font the dice roller won't work (you will get a Net cf 3.5 error).
Devin
Font problem
What an easy fix! Thanks, devinc!
I was really dreading a hard reset, but I kept finding more and more apps that were unreadable.
Every time I see a new post in this thread I pray to be the Starbuzz with the solution of the font problem!
I'm beginning to feel sad because Starbuzz made the first post in 2010 and registered in 2007, will he be another 3 years without posting anything?
Starbuzz, please try to get a little time for your RPG Friends!
Devinc, thanks for the tip!
Font problem
I have got the same problem with font. A little square appears but not the correct font. Thank you so much for the solution. It's a good program!!
devinc, I just realized now that you've solved the font problem!!!
Inside my folder /Windows/Fonts in my phone I had only two fonts: "digital-7.ttf" and "Dragon Order.ttf". All I had to do was copy the "digital-7.ttf" and rename this copy to "Dragon Order.ttf" replacing the original one.
Now my apps continue with the default system font (digital-7.ttf) and RPG Friend works without any problem! The only difference was the logo at home screen.
Now it's perfect! Even better than with that crazy font!
Thanks devinc without your tip we would not have solved the problem!
Did Starbuzz ever finish this app??

Making an attractive User Interface

Hi all,
I was just wondering how you would go about making an attractive interface. I am using C# to write an application I hope to share with the people on this forum (as ive taken alot and think maybe i should give something back now ) but I cant figure how ot make an interface look good. For example transparent forms with graphical buttons etc. Are these just images or is there some 2d DX Programming involved? Because the UI I have in mind i could acheive it by playing GIFS but that just doesnt seem right to me. Also Im still learning C# so for my own ability id rather do it with the correct method from the beginning.
Can someone help me out? DX? Simple Graphics? Gifs? Whats the way to make a nice UI thats not just a windows form in different colours ( ).
Oh and btw im also looking to make the UI finger friendly.
EDIT:
Another question, how do you suppose the volume control (the finger friendly one you spin with your thumb) is made ? its very responsive and i dont think its just images also the way the white ball swivels around and changes the colour of the number its behind. This would also be interesting to learn. I just want to get an idea of the kind of programming involved in making a UI like that. Thanks again.
Thanks in advance for tips.
