Hi,
I've had my o2 xda Orbit now for two weeks and love it, however after i finish using MSN Messenger, it automatically starts connecting to GPRS sometimes saying that an MMS message is coming down but never does.
Is there anyway of disabling GPRS..
The other day i was connected for 1 hour and nothing came through..
Hope you can help
hi buca,
i was having a similer problem. but it was with email. i had gmail setup under messenages account. and i was receiving emails every 30mins. now i began to wonder why this was happening. I dont knw if you have done the same, but in my email options i had check email every 30mins turned on. hence connecting to GPRS every 30mins. And it didnt discontect afterwards, which was annoying.
SO i dont knw if u have setup up email and doen the same as me.
I don't have a WM5 device so I don't know if there's a workaround to your problems without installing 3rd party software. In any case, there is a software from GB-Soft http://www.gb-soft.cz/XDAII/product_gprs_tweak_wm5pe_en.htm that might solve your problems.
Try the disable autoconnect gprs file from this link, worked ok for me

how to enable again gprs after i put the file?
Enable autoconnect GPRS
Please provide urgently the reverse program of disable_GPRS_autoconnect.
how to enable GPRS autoconnect
I think I have got it:
Firstly you need a regedit program like PHM regedit (registry editor).
You have to change the following registry entries to 0.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\PhoneExtendFunction:
.)EnableCPHSONS;
.)NoGPRSAutoAttach.
I think, these were changed by the disable-autoconnect-GPRS CAB Program to 1.

I've just switched network providers and haven't set up the data connection yet, but I've noticed that the phone has been repeatedly trying to access GPRS all day - about 15-20 times between 10am and 4:30pm.
I use SPB Mobile Shell 3, and have the weather app set to update manually. I also have Outlook set to send/receive manually, so I can't work out which application is trying to access the net. Does anyone know how I can find out, before I clock up a huge data bill?
What about the auto web page loading thingy? Have you set that up???
No - I've never enabled it.
I've just installed SPB Wireless Monitor and the two processes that seem to be doing it are system.exe and services.exe. These both sound like naive WM processes, so don't really give me a clue what's going on.
I read in another post that Google Maps/Latitude may connect to the internet regularly, so I disabled that feature but there's still something connecting on a regular basis.
???
The only other thing I am aware it could be is the Manila Facebook updater that's built into the contacts part of TF3D2. Check that out:
People->All People->3rd Tab(person with a clock)->Menu->Data connection setting

I have TF3D2 disabled as I use SPB Mobile Shell. Hence I'm not even able to access the TF3D menu. Is there any way of checking this without removing SPB Mobile Shell?
Does anyone know of a program which will selectively allow internet access to specified applications only?
You could try this one: NO DATA app
Thanks - I already run NoData, but I'd like something which explicitly allows net access to some apps but not to others. That way I won't have to remember to switch GPRS on every time I want to browse, and off when I'm finished.
I finally worked out which app was accessing the net - it was the Funambol client. The newer version is set to "Push" updates by default, rather than sync manually. Now I can finally leave my 3G access enabled without fear of clocking up unexpected charges....

Hello, what is Funambol? I have the same problem (connecting to GPRS network frequently), but I didnt find such application. Thank you.
It's a SyncML client - allows synchronisation of my calendar, contacts etc with my Google calendar/Gmail contacts
Thanks for the quick reply. Do you or anybody else have any idea which application is still connection to the net? I'm using neither Opera nor TF.
I have now had my TP2 for nearly a week and I am generally very pleased. However, there are a couple of problems that may be me or may be the phone that I have not in my ignorance been able to resolve.
Firstly with the calendar, if I enter a new appointment with specific times it shows on the home page and in the month and day display. If I make it an all day appointment of a reoccurring appointment it is not displayed and I have to disable Touchflo to get into the full calendar to find the appointment. This means the only way I am able to see appointments entered is if each is entered daily with specific times. Pretty useless if I have weekly appointments for the year (I would have to enter individually 52 times) or all day appointments / reminders.
Secondly, the You Tube application comes up with an “Unable to find a network” error message when ever I try to run it. I have no trouble with PIE, Opera, e-mail etc, only you Tube. (If I go to You Tube in PIE or Opera all is fine, it is just the You Tube application causing problems.
I have searched but have not found any postings that seem to answer these problems. Any help is gratefully received.
The Phone has an unlocked HTC standard rom on TMobile UK.
Many thanks
KJR
Update
I spent my lunch resetting and then hard resetting and seem to have calendar working properly. I backed up and restored and it still works OK, which is odd (but pleasing) as I would have thought I would be restoring what ever the problem was.
I still cannot get the You Tube applet to work and can find no setting that would allow me to alter how it finds the network.

You might have the proxy server setting active in advanced network settings, just remove the tick box if you do

Yes, that is necessary.
Also, with T-Mobile UK, you have to ensure their 'content lock' feature is disabled before the Youtube app will work. New T-Mobile accounts have content lock enabled by default (to protect minors from certain 'entertainment' sites). To remove the lock, you can either log into your T-mobile account online and follow the 'Phone settings' link, or call customer services and get them to do it.
Thanks
I checked proxy settings and they are disabled. It is not a major problem, just an annoying niggle as I can access You Tube via PIE etc. but it seems odd that the applet deesigned especially for the job doesn't work!
I had Youtube working out the box on T-Mob but couldnt get the facebook app or Microsoft MyPhone to connect.
I ended up setting up a second data connection with the settings:
general.t-mobile.uk
user
pass
And everything else left blank and on Auto and they then connected ok. Give that a shot and see if it helps.
I had the same youtube problem. It seems to be solved now, what I did was connect via wifi (which worked fine) and when I turned wifi off and connected over the air it worked.
Hi everybody,

Hi vikino
To answer your first question, I think it may be because you are using ActiveSnyc with Push Email enabled. If you go to Comm Manager, is the switch for "Microsoft Direct Push" on? If so, when you are on a GPRS connection and make a call your data connection will drop as only 3G or HSDPA can co-exist with an active call. Like the difference between old dial-up and modern broadband internet on your landline. If you're not using Direct Push I can't think what's causing it, but it maybe the HTC Push Internet. If it's the push email thing, you may want to consider switching off "Microsoft Direct Push" from Comm Manager and then going into ActiveSync and setting the sync schedule to "As Items Arrive" manually.
Can you please clarify your second question. It's not 100% clear what is not being displayed properly.
Cheers

.....you know what? You're right, im using Push mail with my own mail server at home...and in the region i live in we dont have 3G it runs on Edge... Push internet i dont know where to set it up, i found it only in TF3D, but im not using it...If it is working w/o TF3D would be nice to know where to set it up...
The second thing is that on Xperia i had was nice small font in menu so in landscape fits all fields in without scrolling, on TP2 is much more bigger font and i have to scroll down for everything, programs and settings i found in top as icon...
I think this question has been posted somewhere before but i really tried search, got no clue.
Sometimes touch pro2 automatically connects to the internet, you can see a pop-up window, saying that something like " cannot connect to...dialled...please check your connection.....dismiss".
This morning when I woke,I saw this window again, sorry I pushed dismiss button, the window's gone,so i cannot copy the exact content here.
I dont count, but i think all the roms I installed has this phenomenon. So I guess all of you saw this pop-up windows.
can someone point me to the right link that answered this issue?
thanks.
-auto weather update?
-Activesync trying to connect to your exchange server?
-Your other POP3/IMAP email accounts trying to poll the server?
-Microsoft MyPhone set to auto sync?
-Microsoft Live trying to poll the server?
-QuickGPS trying to auto update?
-anything else running in the background that uses the internet? (eg, Marketplace, IM apps, browser, etc)
if that window is popping up then you have the wrong data settings. find the correct data settings for your mobile operator/carrier and put them in your phone, or if you don't want to use any wireless data search for modaco no data on google and use that app to stop your device from attempting to connect.
Thanks a lot ! Was looking for that program....
Also you can use 1minute gprs disconnect, it´s a great tool
Probably old news to most people here that Skype have taken this off their web page, but I had a bit of trouble finding the cab this morning, and thought i'd post the link to it here while it's still active so ppl can grab it before they remove that as well. You can use Fring and other apps too I guess, whatever floats your boat...
http://download.skype.com/SkypeMobile.CAB
TNX man. Didn't have cab stored.
i just got the cab and installed it...so far so good, but i can't connect. i enter nick and pw and it starts connecting, but doesn't finish. i'm connected to the internet via active sync and that's working fine...any advice?
EDIT: Okay, eventually there was an Error Message saying that it couldnt connect to the skype network and that I should checkt my network settings...should I enter any proxy settings?
Thanks mates!
