This, I assume, is the very latest UK rom, I had 1.60 before that. Getting the machine tomorrow, will post exact rom then, however I do not know how to copy it and send it you guys, can anyone explain in the simplest term how to do this? I have XP, Thanks
out of interest, what was wrong with the XDAII?
Reply
it would freeze and only a hard reset could fix this when connected to a Socket SDIO card, this would happen every 3 or 4 days.
Re: sent my xda 2 to o2(uk) for repairs, returned UK Rom 1.6

If it's arriving tomorow, how do you already know it's 1.66 mate?
And just for interest, I seem to recall that the GERMAN version of the O2 ROM was just released last week at 1.66 - I wonder if this is a version of this for a UK market, or if O2 are about to release 1.66 over here too.
Anyone know how he can 'reverse assemble' it from his device so he can share it?
i had the same freezing issues but my device was 1.66
but i'm pretty sure that the freezing was due to a 3th party program
been awhile since it froze last
and i doubt it could be a hardware issue since hardreset always works
Mikey Collins - keep us posted on the outcome when it arrives please...
What program caused the crashing ? PocketWinc?
And I know it is coming with 1.66 because I called them. Any idea what sort of programs could have caused this?

What sort of programs could have caused this? The new upgrade you mean or the re-flash?
Could be a number of things mate, though usually a hard reset will cure all your woes.
Let us know what the actual real numbers are, for your ROM, extended ROM etc, when it actually arrives, as what O2 say on the phone, and what happens in real life, are noted for how far apart they tend to be where O2 is concerened.
And there will be an awful lot of people interested in your info, so keep us posted.

I emailed O2 Data Support about this, to see when or if they were intending to release 1.66.
This is my reply back from them:
Hello Mr xxxxxxx,
Thank you for your email,
After querying this with our technical team, we would like you to provide
evidence of the Rom 1.66 occurring, as we believe this not to be the case.
If you are experiencing problems with your XDA, you can replace the device
under warranty via your customer services team.s
Regards,
Paul
O2 Data Support UK
So can you give us some more info, or reply to me off board Mikey? As I suspect it is YOU that is correct, and O2 wrong, and would like to challenge them over this.

It was the technical service team that updated my phone, they warned me about Data Support.... and now you see
new rom?
Sounds good if you are right, and yes i am as critical about o2 as the rest of you, but ive found that there is an easyish way to get through to o2 on the fones if u need sumthing, call their staff accounts people on
0800131211
and since its freefone (in the uk @ least, i guess they have this sorta service elsewhere) it dont matter how long ur on the fone with them.
neway, will it be possible to upload the rom to the site?
Smiley
They are all shipping with 1.66 now
my girlfriend just got a new xd2, same OM as mine.
My xda2 which I am selling on this site also came with the new rom after they replaced the motherboard. I dont know if its me but the screen seems so much better, on a par now with the ipaq 3900 series, bright, clear, good depth of colour etc. Its for sale in the stocking up section of this site if anybody is interested. £350 Uk.
I just purchased an XDA II yesterday, and it also came with ROM version 1.66.00WWE (Incidently, the ROM date shows as 20th Feb 04)

I repeatedly Emailed O2 about this, and eventually there response was that more recent versions of the XDA2 ship with a slightly different screen (hardware wise).
New drivers are needed for this, and this is the ONLY difference in 1.66, which is not available for public download.
I emailed them back to tell them what a load of old cobblers, and that it includes a Cleartype tuner and more.
They went decidedly quiet at that point.
Any chance that O2 have fixed the Handsfree dll problem in Version 1.66? Can you get mp3 / Tom tom audio etc. to come out of the bottom connector? (Many people have a problem with the XDA II that they can only get Phone call audio to go to the bottom connector, even though the T-Mobile ROM's apparently don't have this problem.)
You can use a tool provided free on this site in the tools and software section to download your ROM to an SD card, and I assume that it can also download it to your PC.
I'm by no-means an expert, but I've had a go at fiddling with it so far and this is what I've found...
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/CompleteTools
Follow the XDA Tools link and download the program, tell it to read the ROM from the device and Put it on your PC, then you can post it here.
I know this program worked with flashing the ROM from my XDA, never tried it with an XDA II though, although I will try it when I get home tomorrow.
There were a couple of more difficult to use tools provided for the XDA II that need you to log into the 'Bootloader' on the device using a command prompt (Like DOS) style program providxed by HTC (the manufacturers of the XDA and XDA II) but I can't remember where they were and I'm using my girlfriends crappy tinternet connection at the moment and can't be bothered to search the site. I'll have a more detailed set of instructions posted asap if I can find out how to do it all over the weekend.
Other than that, if anyone else can post details of how to do it, I'd be very grateful cos it all seems a lot more complicated with the XDA II to change the ROM than it was with the XDA.
Cheers,
Rom version 1.66.00 wwe
Guys be vvvvv careful when messing with this rom. If you attempt to update it to sort out the caller photograph recognition bugs you are in for a shock. Now you may already now which versions are the "older" versions but I did not and updated with the current official update from the O2 site. My XDA2 is now a one week old doorstop. Any suggestions anybody. I did back up to my SD card before the update but do not have a card reader...............yet!
Hiya everyone.
I had a search for this, and was unable to find the solution, so I apologise if this has been asked before.
Is it possible to revert my XDA 2's OS back to its original state after its been upgraded to WM 2005?
I only ask because I wish to sell my XDA 2, and there are certain aspects of the new OS that don't run properly (The 2 side buttons - camera and voice recorder no longer work, and I am unable to connect to the internet as the o2 settings were wiped, and they are unable to provide me with the manual details).
If this is possible, then great... if not, then I'll have to make do really (unless someone can offer assistance on the problems above?).
Oh just for reference, I used the guide on this forum to upgrade to WM 2005, so you can see the exact process I went through.
Thanks to anyone who is able to help.
Failing any help, can anyone post a rom of the OS in its original state for the o2 XDA2?? (with o2 Active, despite how many ppl hate it! lol)
I'd just like to get it back to its fully-functioning self again.

w00t! thanks dude ur a star!
I think no-one has picked it up yet as I can't find trace of it in the forum but O2 UK has released a new ROM for the BA, XdaIIs.
I installed it - seems to be all right. Big improvements:
O2 Active UI v3.6.024 -well, seems to be more stable than previous versions
Bluetooth build 3900
Radio build 1.12
Windows mobile CE version 1.40
BlackBerry Connect v2.0
Removal of Photo Contacts
AND AND AND.... are you ready?
WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 10! I am not joking. I've got it on my BA.
Strange O2 does not list WMP10 in the features of the new ROM.
Download it from http://www.my-xda.com/
You'll need your O2 number and IMEI to accessd the software upgarde section of the site.
Enjoy.

In another thread on here (I can't remember which one) someone who works for 02 said that they've stopped selling the XDA2s due to 'system problems'. Strange they'd do that just after releasing a new ROM :S

chances are that they are clearing old stock for the new xda exec as they now have a new device, the upgarde is just an upgrade, even if they do carry on selling the 2s i dont think o2 have the brains to ship it with the new rom, they tend to leave customers to fend for themselves and if you know nothing about upgrading like us on here, you have no chance.
I have had my XDA IIs for nearly a year now and have been running the ROM version that came on it without too many problems, but i thought i would upgrade it to the newest version because of WM10, now that i have there is a problem with it that is REALLY bugging me; First, i have my brightness level low so as to conserve battery life, but when i use the camera it goes to full brightness which is not a problem, it is when i finish using the camera and close it down it stays on full brightness unless i go to the screen settings and change it back to how i had it originaly.
Does anyone know how to sort this? Thanks
If you look on the Wiki there is information as to how to obtain the camera.exe file from an alternate ROM which you can then copy over the new one.
I messed around with this when I tried upgrading to WM2005.

Will this patch work for WM2003 SE?
Its just an exe not a patch
Try it, (keeping your new one) and if it doesn't work then you can revert to original.
Didn't do anything, still got the problem.

YEAH, its from a 1.40 wm2003se rom originaly. 8)
rofl i didn't even notice winmedia 10 as i've been using pocketmusic the whole time but thanks for that.
I was trying to do the same thing, but half way, the phone automatically stop and now it would not start. It will only show Serial on the top of the screen and v2.07 on the bottom. If I put it on the cradle, the Active Sync could not recognize it and the screen will show USB on top and v2.07 on the bottom. Soft reset, full reset, removal of battery just would start it gaian. I don't have the desk top screen back. I cannot use it at all. Can someone out there please help???!!

Well i had this rom on my xda2s, i have now sacked it off and gone back to the launch rom and upgraded the radio stack and bluetooth myself. Got sick of having to reset the backlight manually everytime i used the camera! Not bothered about WM10, never use it, only use TCPMP for media. Wish i had done this in the first place!

Have you tried the guide on WIKI here? -> http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_1.42.00_Upgrade
Look under the heading "First Method (Quick/Easy) (TYPE II)".
This should help you restore your device!

XDA 2s Downgrade
Hiya All,
Sorry to be a pain in the ass, but i upgraded my phone to WM2005 and then downgraded to 2003 again. I cant seem to use the new O2 upgrade. It looks as if all is ok but when i check the system info the ExtRom Version is blank.
Please help me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers Mike
Hiya,
Just a simple question but what have you guys found to be 'the best' ROM for the o2 XDA Exec? At the moment I'm using the ROM provided by Ranju; however I've found it prone to crashes and temporary hangups.
Any ideas? Even if it's not as 'new' as the one I'm currently using, I'm trying to find one that's simply stable - I'd even revert back to WM5 but can't find any ROMs for it and the o2 support for the XDA exec has been withdrawn =/
Cheers,
Lee

the iPhone is proprietary to Apple and so it can't be put on anything else. What you can do is put other things on your XDA to make it finger friendly in operation.
To remove just the O2 garbage, do a hard reset and then when it says "Customising in 3 secs", or something like that do a soft reset.
These questions and more can be answered if you look in the Himalaya/Andes sub forum if its an XDA II or the Alpine section if its an XDA IIi. To tell the difference, apart from the label on the front of the case, which may have been changed:
Go to Start - Settings - System - Device Info.
Select the "Identity" tab.
PH10B = Himalaya/Andes, can be upgraded to WM5 and WM6
PH10C = Alpine, cannot be upgraded but does include WiFi.
The best advice is to read through these forums, especially the device specific ones and also the "Development and Hacking" one for customisation.
Thanks a bunch! my sister-in-law retired her o2 xda 2 to me and I wanted to give it a nice "face-lift". I'll be trying out the stuff you've suggested, thanks again
