Alright ROM upgrading lesson: plugin the Universal into the USB of your laptop or PC and make sure Activesync is installed and detects it on your laptop. Next run the executable file for the ROM upgrade and it should go smoothly. Just follow the instructions till the end of the ROM upgrade.
Now if you are looking for the best and most stable ROM's, xda-developers would be a good place for it. The reason why I dont like official shipped ROM's from companies is because they are outdated and usually lacking a lot of features. Orange ROM's are very slow and take up a lot of memory. Ofcourse company ROM's have their benefits like the Orange start menu and main menu looks completely different from all ROM's released to date, company ROM's also most likely contain more drivers to support things like blackberry connect software.
Now if you are looking for a nice stable/best/latest ROM xda-developers would be a nice place. You can download Helmi's AKU 3.5 ROM which is the best we have to offer at the moment and is also the best on the net. Helmi's ROM must be extracted, its in .rar format which is just like .zip and then you have to run the executable file in the folder you extracted it to. Everything will go fine if you follow instructions and dont do anything weird.
thanks nuclear
its this the rom you were referring to Helmi Rom AKU 3.2

thanks again nuclear...
another stupid question... hmmmm is there a procedure to install it inside the .rar file? or do i just simply connect my EXEC to my pc then run the installer on my pc?
thanks alot

download winrar and install it, right click on the file you downloaded and click extract to folder..to extract the contents of the rar file. Next you have to connect your device via USB and activesync must detect and synchronise with it. Then in the folder where you extracted the rar file there will be an executable file romupgradeutility or something. Just follow the steps it tells you and you shall be fine. Dont worry if the screen turns black or anything
try this

I would like to install the dopod ROM (with that AKU2, A2DP would be nice but not necessary.) on my XDA Exec. However, I get the country code error and I am not certain if I have the latest build and if the rom upgrade is in English.
The link I downloaded the rom upgrade from is ftp://xda:[email protected]/Un...es/UNI_DOPOD_ASIA_130111_130230_11100_WWE.exe
I dont want to brick my Exec. Help would be much appreciated thank you.

yes,it is newest Dopod WWE rom , follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=42992 to flush your new Dopod rom
have fun
Thank You.
I tried this...
I couldn't find the .zip file anywhere, so I right-clicked the .exe file using winrar. With winrar, I extracted all the files, copied "MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe" into the folder containing all the extracted files. Then...
Hold the Power button + Light bulb button, and press the reset pin found at the back of the device.
Connect back your device via the USB cable.
Run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe
and voila! it worked!
Sit back and let it do it's thing.
edved.
Thank You. I am currently going to stay with the O2 ROM for now. But on my next hard reset I want to install the Dopod ROM.

why not ? there are lots of roms out there, check the wiki-pages
Choose your favourite, don't forget to run USPL before flashing and there should be no problem
....and please don't ask which rom is the best one - there are lots of threads about that and imo it's inadequate the say which one is the best.
All the cooks are trying to create great roms - it's up to you which one you like the most....
Yes you can upgrade or degrade
You can always upgrade to WM6 and downgrade to WM5 if you intend to change later. I have done it before many time installed different ROM's.
You only need to run USPL before any new ROM install.
I did this myself just the other day. You can get the official ROM from here for the UK XDA Orbit.
http://member.htc.com/ruudownload/O2UKRuuDownload.aspx?sn=SZ721FX00383&refer=http://www.my-xda.com/xdaOrbitSoftware.html
This one does'nt need USPL since it is the official ROM.

I think I'm going to go this route. That site says I need Activesync 4.5 - however I'm on Vista and using the Sync Centre application - will this do?
Have a look at this thread Anjow
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317589&highlight=vista
I think it has everything you need.
Thanks. Given how complex that looks I think I'll just use my XP machine to do it.
Am I right in thinking that upgrading like this will hard reset the device? That I'll need to reinstall all my programs and reinstate my appointments/contacts etc.? If so, can I create an SPB self-extracting backup on WM5 then run it on WM6 to get my config back?
I know there are lots of ROMs out there but I was just careful and used the standard O2 release:
http://xda.o2.co.uk/xdaOrbitSoftware.html
And yes, it clears out your machine unless you have installed the software on the SD card in which case it just gets confused.
But it is worth it.

Odd, that site won't accept my serial number... I have tried many different combinations of what it could be (swapping 0 for O etc.) but it keeps telling me it isn't valid.
Just use the link I provided, it is the same ROM. Using the other link you have to make sure that you use Internet Explorer, other brwsers don't work.
Will do then, cheers.
slow downloads
could someone please up the official O2 UK WM6 ROM for me please?
i've tried downloading from the aforementioned official websites. it starts out at a fine speed, then gets slower and slower until it eventually times out.
really want to upgrade, so if someone could upload the official rom to megaupload/rapidshare i would be much appreciative.
thanks
Here you go, fortunatly I still had it on my HD from when I upgraded mine.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WOEXBYKO
thanks!
cheers for that much appreciated. however it seemed to download fine this time, but i'll get urs as a back up too!
this is the official ROM right?
thanks again
Yes it is the official ROM, I got it from the link I posted earlier in the thread.
I want to learn how to cook a rom but i dont know where to start. whats the best programme to use? any tutorals? please help
Search for Kitchens.
You use kitchens to cook roms.
The wiki has lots of information to ramp your base knowledge.
I second the suggestion to Search for Kitchen, both in the forums and the wiki. It's all here.
Then the easiest place to start is with matts Pandora Kitchen.
Then as you get more comfortable , I like Core Kithen, he even includes a tutorial.
A great search tool that I use:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298893
It keeps me from asking questions that have been asked a thousand times.
Best kitchen documentation is available in Wizard forum. Download Faria's kitchen and read the instructions with it. Cooking concept is the same for both the devices, just the OS is different.
Once you have the knowledge, you can try matt's Pandora or RomDonald's
PS: Do not use wizard kitchen to cook a hermes ROM
is there any progamming language you need to learn before starting or is it all part of the kitchen?

no, it's moving files around, running applications, and clicking checkboxes. Super easy once you get rolling.

Again, what kind of reading in the wiki, or the kitchen threads recommended in the above posts?
is there a kitchen that runs on vista? i was tring to downgrade the reinstall to dual boot with xp but it says theres no hard drive whe i try to install so i need one comatable with vista
Download the pandora kitchen....give that a bit of a play with.
I am interested in where can I find base OS roms. I would like to cook my own rom and for example to use build 5.2.2000 WM6. Where can I find it?

I dont think .2000 has been ported yet for hermes...if you can port it for hermes, then you are a chef (like faria or Schap's, etc)...but for us cooks, find the ROM you like (eg. Schap's 4.0 or Pandora's, etc), extract OS and start playing with it.
so far ive read up on the pandora kitchen post and the others suggested in this post. it seems like the easyest to use it the pandora kitchen but it dosnt seem to run. the build os programme stops responding. im currently downloading the latest .net but it might be because i have vista. i cant downgrade to xp due to a problem with my hard drive. should be getting a new one this week but would like not to have to dual boot to save hard drive space plus i like vista.

To ensure you have configured the kitchen correctly (ie put the components in the correct location after downloading), try downloading the Pandora Naked kitchen from it's rom thread (in my sig). It's a complete package - so extract it into a folder and try running BuildOS. If it fails - it's your PC. If it works - it's the way you assembled it.

Anyone know where I can download the new I.E. 6.1? Just looking for the standalone version for my device with out upgrading the rom.
anyone? Please?
Not sure what you're looking for. Internet Explorer from 6.1???? or the operating system 6.1. No upgrade exsists at this time. You have to flash to a new Rom if its available for your device.
no one can extract the new i.e. 6.1? Because a rom is not out for my device yet.

what device do you have?
actually i have two devices, but only one HTC device. The XV6700(Apache) and the i760 by Samsung.
My buddy has a Mogul, he would install the new rom but he'd worried he may mess something up therefore i.e. 6.1 standalone would be nice.
anyone please?

Worked fine on my hermes
Hi all,
I'm a newbie and I try to flash my first ROM!
Therefore i'm looking for an simple and "up-to-date" step by step instruction to install windows mobile 6.X ROM GER (preferably Mossi's German ROM) on my P3300 (with windows mobile 5).
I know, that there are already a lot of posts concerning this topic, but I loose the overview!
Please help me!
Thanks!
First of all download and run (device have to be conneted by ActiveSync) Artemis Update SPL (USPL),
then just run RUU (in most cases: ROMUpdateUtility.exe) from extracted new rom archive.
Thats all.
Yours device battery must be charged

What Korro says, and for a general overview / read the rom section in the artemis wiki, or look here for a very brief step by step instruction by me
Strange: three different threads, helped with one instruction? Apparently some basic information isn't as easy to find as it should
Thanks to you both!
I got it! I flashed my HTC successfully!
Help please!
Hi,
it's my first try to update my rom. I followed the instruction above, and after the 3-color screen the wizard gets up to 3% and stops displaying error saying the image file is corrupted!!
Can you help me please??
