Posting while in pda mode - About xda-developers.com

I find myself using the pda version of the forum quite a lot but really miss being able to post without displaying the full version.
So, I'd just like to suggest that if you one of these days find yourself with a little time on your hands, this would be a highly appriciated feature

Which Rom do you suggest?

Hello i want to upgrade a friend's Hermes. I have a prophet. Which rom should i use?
And also the procedure is the same?
Thanks!
Procedure? Dont know what you refering to but follow this guide. http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/
Also, the best is very subjective. Try some. And then use which you like.
Custel, LVSW, Faria, vp3G, Black... all these are really good. Just try and see which you like.
They can be found here...

Some friendly advice – you’re not going to make too many friends here with a post like this.
You need to READ the Wiki, read the threads about each available ROM, and maybe check out the thread with the feature matrix on some of the current ROMS.
I was in the same position as you about a week ago, and I found every bit of information I needed already posted. I ended up choosing Schaps latest ROM because it had some features I wanted – you mileage may vary. My 8525 is running great after the “operation”, and it’s a nice change from the Kyocera 6035 I’d been using since 2000 .
It doesn’t hurt to try a few ROMs, and test the features you need to see how / if they work in the version you installed.
We’re called n00bs, and the guys here only want to hear from us if the question is truly unique / not answered already, or if we have some insightful input.
Have fun…
thank you very much for your answers !

No you are not automatically labelled n00bs! Its just that nearly ALL the info required to do a flash upgrade can be found in:
the wiki
already existing threads (search)
my guides
The reason alot of users are beginning to get irate is that time and effort was spent researching the hermes ever since it was released back in august, we have unlocked ALOT of features and some truely excellent ROMs have been created to run on them.
Its just recently that word must have spread to the less development orientated sites and a FLOOD of new users has arrived and most of them do not read/search/read again they just come on demanding help and advice withouthelping themselfs first.
This thread is not one of theose examples however it was quite likely you would have been flamed unfortunatly
The only advice i can give the OP is to flash a WM6 ROM as shown in my guides (any ROM will do) then experient with them all until satisfied with operation.
ok thank you very much!
Just remember, follow his guide and don't flash first without flashing the latest HardSPL so just in case you go wrong somewhere [you shouldn't], and turn your phone into an expensive brick, you'll be able to recover easier. I was new to all of this a few months back, but now it's like making toast. It's a little nerve racking the first time out cause you're worried you might screw-up. If you follow the guide you'll be fine. As far as a particular ROM to use, it's just like everyone already said. Each one is like trying a flavor. You try one, see if ya like it, try another, see if ya like that one better, etc etc. I'm using JJ's latest Black Shadow ROM, and it's awesome IMO. Stable, never soft reset, and everything runs perfect* [*after some slight work hehe]. Also, choosing a radio is a seperate thing. Most ROMs don't include a new radio, and just because it may have a higher number than another one because it was released later, doesn't mean it's better! You'll have to try a couple of those too, depending on your ROM and your area. For me, 1.38 is sweet. Good luck. -fin

hi, mates, a little help with duttys softwear please?

hi, i just got my HTC 8925 tilt. i am not hesitating to get into the modding scene. i need to how to use.. Ruu_Signed_Duttys_WM6.1_5.2.19700_Hybrid_V2_1_65.14.06_CubeV2_
with my tilt. i read some of the other post but can't seem to understand about all the flashing and stuff. i really don't wanna brick my phone, if you know what i mean. im apart of the PSP modding scene but it is nothing compared to this.
so can someone please help me out here. it would be very much appreciated.
right now i have...
Rom version - 1.62.502.0
radio version - 1.27.14.09
Thank you very much, do you need any other info?
Read the posts and use the search feature.
Really, it's not hard.
I had no idea how to flash my Kaiser with another ROM until I read up on it and yeah, it was somewhat confusing at first but after reading and re-reading things, I was able to work out what I needed to do and with what order.
Not wanting to come across as harsh but nobody is going to hold your hand through this when all the information is on this site many, many times over.

Opinion & stuff

Hey everybody,
New user here, I'm on the forum for about 3 day now and i reached page 40 on aplications and themes, i have to say there are some cool stuff your posting here.
I'm also a new user of WM with the HD as my starter's kit (yah I like to complicate my life) and I reached the conclusion..it's windows! it's suposed to be lagqy, get stuck and have al sorts of annoying problems to be fix. I was bumed out for a couple of weeks thinking I should have pick the I-phone but when I saw the commercial for I-phoneS (WOW look what does it DOOOO, IT RECORDS VIDEOS WOW!!!!! IT COPY-PASTE's WOOWW!!! ) I changed my mind, and realized that the HD kicks I-Ps's Ass any time . I'm still not happy about the laggy-nes, as I read in some posts if I flush the ROM and get another one it can get even 20 times faster...is it true? Cuz I was looking at Laurentius26's L26_THD V3.55_WWE_Ultimate [Full Rhodium] and I dont know what to do, if i flush the stock OS do i lose my waranty?
Also it took some time to undestand that manila stuff and why some theme work and some dont(or i think i understand), on my device I have manila 2.0(i think ). Oh, I found one time on another site(cant remember witch one) a theme that i liked very much but for HTC TOUCH, it was called Scrap Paper, does anyone have it for HD or know what I'm talking about.
Oh, and I remember, for a 900$ phone (as it is in my country), they didn't finde a small spot for a flash?! And the headphones are very miserable and low buget (my opinion)! Very desapointed about these 2 things!!! wow I shure wrote a lot, hope you can help me with the rom flashing and the scrap paper theme....sorry if i borde you ..won't happen again
hey there.im also quite new to this forum and this is also my first time using wm.ive had my HD for around four months now.its hard for a newbie to find things anyway it was for me.if ur wondering about fashing check out flashing for dummies in rom development http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505377 it helped me.and yea u must be prepared to read a lot cos most problems are not new and some one has posted it some where.and if im not wrong the best way is to use the search
10x 4 the tip Sliv
As stated before most issues have been posted before so as long as you search you should be alright. Otherwise PM me and I'll steer you in right direction. Link provided above by sliv for the 'Dummies guide to flashing' is where you shoud post any further queries in flashing.
Try and keep each forum on topic, i.e. this forum is just for themes, applications and software. Any queries on ROM development or rom specific questions/amswers should be posted/found here. If you have a cooked rom on your device you do void warranty, but stock rom can always be flashed back. I suggest you read though thread link provided and the wiki for further info.
Just did a quick search for theme 'scrap paper' and got no results, so not sure its available. However if you ask someone politely who creates themes (lots of theme threads around) they may surprise you and make it . Obviously this depends on who you ask and how nice you ask them...LOL
Hope all this helps

do you mean Zitouns Paper theme ?

What is the most stable radio/baseband for the Samsung Hercules (T-989) on TMOUS?

I'm having issues with a Samsung Galaxy S2 T989 where every time I place the phone on speaker, the call becomes choppy and blanks out completely at times, sounding as if I had no signal whatsoever. This started out with the stock rom so I decided to root it. I went from ICS to JB on Cyanogenmod. I flashed a newer radio because it would otherwise not let me flash anything. I tried flashing UVMC6 and it did not improve it. I then flashed UVMB1 (the 4G Blaze radio) and it still does the same thing. Call quality over the ear piece is good, but it all goes out the window when I use speakerphone.
I checked off the box on "Noise Suppression" and it doesn't do anything at all. The sound is still choppy over speakerphone. I've searched up on the forum, and so far the threads that come up are from 2012 or early 2013, but I assume that T-Mobile has made new radio/baseband settings since then.
My question is, what is the most stable radio/baseband to use on the T989 to get rid of the speakerphone problem, or is this problem a design flaw since the speaker is near the microphone?
All help is appreciated.
Wrong forum, belongs here. I've asked mods to move your thread, sit tight until they do.

Best "anything" is based on your own personal preference/phone/area/setup. I recommend you try each for a day and see what is best for your phone and area.
There are only 2 radios that work on jelly bean...the newest T-Mobile one and the telus one. That's it.
Sent from my N5, N7, Moto X, G Tab 3 or S2.....
---------- Post added at 07:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:54 PM ----------
Also, some custom ROMs could have noise issues. You have to read through their threads to see. Or post in their threads.
Stock jelly bean should be flawless if thats what you want. Or a 4.1.2 touch wiz based ROM.
Good luck!

I'm using CM 10.2 stable (4.3 JB) on my T989 Koodo. Getting the same speakerphone choppiness, and the same when using a bluetooth device.
Any luck finding a good stable radio package?

Again.. There are only 2 radios that work on anything jelly bean or higher. T-Mobile or telus's newest. No other options. So all you can do is try other ROMs.

Thanks for your very short, almost arrogant, half of an answer. We are here to help each other and by doing so teaching us something that someone taught you at one time.
I se that you have said in two different posts that there are only two that will work in a build that new but, in both posts you have neglected to tell which two those are. You would think that if one was tryingto be helpful instead of posting to be an ass and belittle a person who doesn't know as much as you, that you would be kind enough to have those two versions listed in the two very informative posts you spent so much time writing.

Here you go. I searched for you and/or anyone and found this.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895400
First 2 radios in the list in the opening post. Apparently the mirror links are the ones to use.
Without scolding people for not searching like many will do, or giving them attitude, I like to encourage people to search for things... without a big long lecture. I'm sorry if that didn't sit well with you.
I gave a quick and precise answer. Possibly assuming most know what the 2 radios are.... it's been a long time this way on 4.1.2 or anything above. My bad.
Take care.
I appreciate the response and the link and the apology. I wasn't looking for either of those from you though. I was merely reading different posts and replies and it amazes me how lazy or just not driven to learn and read most of the new, and not so new , members are about about searches to find what they are looking for. It does get to be time consuming for some searches and some don't even try.
On the other side of the coin,it does get old reading questions that are answered in stickies or that one sees two or three times a week being asked throughout the site.
But, as a member who isn't too far from still being a noob but, has enough time in to see both sides of the fence , there is and always has been an almost elitist, ego among members who do know more than most. It can be intimidating to ask for help because of the way they get replies. Some people k ow nothing about cell phones that come here looking for help and then get berrated for posting in the room, or not knowing what OS or kernel is installed on their device.
I just wanted to remind you that you were probably one of those guys for some time and that posting a quip that doesn't do anything to help or guide the OP to the right answer. It just adds to the stress he or she is under because their device is not working right and they don't to feel stupid for not k owing something. We all know that feeling and it sucks.
I hope he got the links and one of them works. Thanks for posting the links and what you said. We're allhere for one basic goal. To learn and teach. Let's keep to that course on the ship were sailing on XDA

You're entitled to your opinion. Many would have found my original reply more than good enough. As many have in the past. Some maybe not. Remember tho, I don't work for XDA, I'm not paid to help anyone. I'm entitled to say or not say whatever I'd like. (Within XDA rules of course) As are you.
I'm sorry my original reply didn't contain enough info for you personally.....
But some of your accusations are rather insulting.... You don't get a green name on XDA being the type of person you have accused me of being. Yes many around are exactly like you describe..... I am not.
And I'm not here to take part in arguments either.
So let's agree to disagree. And leave it at that.
And keep in mind, blasting people for not helping "enough" or in the way you hoped for will probably get even less help and just more arguments.
Anyway, take care.

great site, but...

this site is absolutely fantastic. it has been very informative and helped me alot. but, i feel like although it is packed with knowledge, it is not easy to find what your looking for. nor does it really explain what capabilities you have with rooting your device. i hate iphones, but the sites that i used when i had one were very user friendly. am i missing something? and my phone (lg optimus f6) doesnt even have its own section, and ive had to dig dig dig to find anything that is phone specific and got lucky and found a kitkat mini custom ROM on androidforums. but i feel like i dont have a easy time finding much on the xda forums for my phone, and CWM or any rom repository doesnt have my phone or support it. i do love this web forum, and if im missing something, please tell me so i can better navigate the site and learn more so i can move forward. never stop learning

Your device apparently doesn't have a large enough user base, here at XDA in any case, to warrant a separate thread. You aren't missing anything tho. Unfortunately, it is what it is.
I guess I feel like people are doing a lot more with there phones and I'd like to do more, but I'm lacking the knowledge of what I can do...done a few things and I'm super happy with it all...just kinda wanna do more.
@c0yle_diesel, if you ever can't find your way or need help locating something on XDA, the guys over in the XDA Assist forum are here to help. Just make a thread in the forum I linked with your question, and they will point you in the right direction.

No it's not at all.
Lots of people here willing to help, it's just hard to find someone who has knowledge of your specific phone. It's not anything XDA members try, just not a lot of people have that device or know its specifics.
Do you know what would really help? Now that you found a ROM for your phone, create a specific thread, post about how to flash the files, any problems you had flashing it, etc. Then the next person who comes around with a LG Optimus F6 will be able to find information about it!
pros of having a known device always include a large developer/community support. cons of having a less known device of course is the other way around. but, this is xda .. its very impossible that there will only be 5 people who uses same device as you, you should be able to find ways on whatever things you wanted to. may not be rom/device specific.
