news groups
I use USENET, I have a Giganews unlimited account w/ 10 connections for a total of ~ 1.26mbit/sec, I used newzbin.c0m for nzb's and a few other free nzb forums, and use newsleecher to decode the .nzb files and d/l the parts...
Please dont ***** about warez or piracy, I dont want to hear it, I have heard it since 1988, and no argument is new, ever. I do pay for apps, just not untill they have proven themselves useful over the test of time, 30 days or 10 starts dont cut it, even the worst written app can seem well put together for a few days...

Dave - he's talking about the Usenet. Where is it? It's everywhere! You need access to newsgroups. Google can do that.
Piracy - guys, condone or not, understand the board policy that we will have to lube you up and get medieval if you distribute through the board. For legal reasons. So just be sensible, you're all grown ups.
Where do I get my apps from?

Thanks for your help!

oh, i have the same question
UK residents should be aware that it is a criminal offence to change the IMEI number of a phone and if you are found doing it for other people you can get upto five years.
I love it when instead of answering peoples questions with an actual answer, someone feels the need to tell you how bad/illegal/wrong, it is to do what your doing. But then when you go back and look at older threads, or even on other forums, you see that same person asking the same question you asked, a year or two earlier. But once they know the answering, they tell everyone else not to do it, not to ask, and they can go to jail, blah blah blah. Unreal. Its sad when certain forums are 30% legitimate questions, and 60% "troll answers", and 10% real answers. It sucks when you have to go through reading 3 days worth of bull**** to get the answer to a question that is fairly basic, and in the old days would have been answered, and if there was no known answer, everyone would have worked TOGETHER to find one. Those days are obviously long gone, as everyone is more interested in "getting mine", and making, or think theyre going to make, that whopping $10 charge to give you that answer or do that service for you. Even though its "illegal". Ya its illegal, until you pay them, then legality all of a sudden is no longer an issue. Funny how that works right?
I would think XDA would be the place where "Devs" come up with solutions without judging! This is the whole idea of places like this. Where we do things we want to do with our devices. It can be getting rid of malware, junkware. Developing awesome skins, ROMs, apps. We circumvent operator practices to stifle our beautiful hardwares so why not develop easier ways to stop the government from blocking our freedom to use/buy devices and use them freely on any network!

SideLoaders - Sickipedia app, looking for someone to take it over

Hi all,
Wrote this as a friend wanted it on his phone got bounced by the marketplace (god knows why).
Code is fairly solid but could use some work posting the source and XAP here for someone to take over the development.
In short its been sitting on my machine for an age with nothing happening. If anyone wants to have a play etc then go for it.
Please note this is released under GPL. In short don't pass this off as yours and go around making money!
What do you have against others making money off something you have up'd for free that isn't done? No-one is going to make money if they're always half-way-there [bon jovi jokes are a must].
Not making money par-say but people stealing the code and claiming as their own then hogging all the rights to it.

The code works, the app runs. Half-way wouldn't be a fair description. I'm providing the work I've done to date for free so that someone can carry on working on it as a free open source project. I think that seems fair.
Probably got bounced because marketplace doesn't allow "Adult, racist, homophobic, etc." content
I wrote a Sickipedia app myself before Windows Phone 7 even came out, lloked like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
But I guess I'll have a look at this sometime and see if I can do anything for it
Yeh very similar look to mine. Think you win on UI design tho.
Im happy to work with you on the UI and roll with your Code if you like ? Wouldnt want to put my name all over it and could be released on here once finalised as a colaboration ?
Hi,
Would love to but the work load with my university course is getting very heavy and so I don't really have any time to dedicate to a project right now.
I am more than happy for you to take my code and re-do the UI and release to XDA users.
You could try to republish the app.
The 'exit' exception you're throwing is not allowed, and will definitely get your submission denied.
private void button2_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{
throw new Exception("I want to close the application");
}
You really should just remove the entire first page. This is just asking them to notice the 'ethics' violation.
Never really had anyone look over my code before, bit of a strange feeling knowing people are looking at my work!
I do agree while strictly true the exception is against the rules it shouldn't cause the app to fail certification as it will still conform to the policies.
I'm not really too interested in republishing as it was directly refused on ethics grounds and I find myself kind of agreeing with them.

Installous7 - what do you think about that ?

Windows Phone Hacker three hours ago, published the app - Installous 7

What I should write more - nothing. You have to read this:
Software piracy has become an extremely controversial subject lately. We all know SOPA and PIPA. But when it comes down to the very personal scale of app development, one must question the true wrongdoing in obtaining free software. We have debated this internally at WPH, and while our major developers have voted against it, the new blood here has decided to make a modest proposal. Leave it to the hands of the users.
We've heard many arguments against obtaining cracked applications, all of which are erroneous. Some claim it hurts homebrew, and has resulted in the extreme locking down of the WP7 operating system. Others claim it robs developers who spend hours developing, and takes away from the income of not large, greedy corporations, but rather, personal developers who may have families to support, or education to fund. Others claim it is just morally wrong, and shows a degrading of character when something so cheap is still seen unworthy of personal dimes.
This application is subject to the disclaimer that you use it under your own moral obligations and local laws. Essentially, this application installs a DRM store to your phone that causes the Marketplace to unlock all trial applications, and circumvent charging users for purchases. It's easy and effective. We can't say we support it, and don't know how long it will be until Microsoft patches it, as they are historically very quick and organized in bug fix updates.

That happens sometimes only happened to me a couple times a month
Yeah I had this happen to me a couple times
Sorry about that friend. The reason is most likely due to the Jelly Bean announcements; one of the admins came on the other day and said that there were 60,000 people logged in simultaneously.
I want to say thank you for making good posts to start with and not junk like some people do trying to scam the system simply to post "Thanks for a great ROM" in a dev thread. I sincerely appreciate that.

Today is my first day... not the day of Jelly Bean announcement.
Another thing: I expect xda-developers type forums to use highly scalable cloud to handle such high traffic spikes.
RightScale is a great tool which automatically launches new cloud servers from EC2, RackSpace Cloud etc upon needs.
@Sachin
Its a kind of warm welcoming Just kidding
It must be a coincidence Never mind!!!
I also encountered this couple of time, of course it wasn't on my first day to XDA
That happens to me too, but it quickly goes away. I just joined this forum, this is one of the best forums.
this forum is great but slow
always failed loading contents from media.xda-developers.com

There are huge numbers of new users coming in. Basically every day we are hitting a new record. Scroll down to the very bottom of the forum home page.
Most users online was 68,570 on 18th July 2012

Dear XDA, your forums suck.

Ok, sorry in advance for the thread title. It's true though. Performance (on either desktop or mobile) is incredibly slow.
There are so many ads that load that on mobile a full minute can go by and the whole page still hasn't loaded.
Ad placement is also so terrible that clicking on links often results in clicking on something else completely because an ad loaded late and pushed content down the screen.
Link placement itself is a PITA. Care to guess how many times I've accidentally unsubscribed from forums because the links are so close together?

The problem doesn't really get any better on your mobile app as there are so many missing browsing features as to make it undesirable to use. By undesirable, I mean bamboo shoots under the fingernails would be preferable.
I know money has a part to play in this. I'm sure the budget is tight and you need every penny from ad sales. But the overall usability of the site is going to drive me away (again) because it hasn't been implemented well at all.
I say these things because I care, not because I'm angry. Thanks for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Me
