Mtty list of commands? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

Just a thought, I've been reading posts and thread about resucing the Universal from the 'boot screen' or the hanged 'splash screen'. On top of that, there were many commands for mtty which seemed to help.
I was thinking why don't we compile a list of mtty commands, and what they do when keyed into the client?
egs. set (numbers), task (numbers), etc.
List of Commands
task 28 - format DiskOnChip (DOC)

Yes would like that..
Dubli has told me some tips to rescue uni from hang at splash screen:
1. Get mtty
2. Connect to USB, press enter
3. Type task 32, enter <--Donno what is it for
4. Type 28, enter <--format DOC
5. Flash CE Rom only
6. Hard Reset
But no one has tried it. I cant try it since i've already sent my uni for replacement.

thanks! i updated the first post. if there's any mistake, do let me know.

These commands have little to do with mtty. All mtty does is to redirect these commands to bootloader. Some of the commands could work on a specific bootloader and some won't. If you want the whole list of a specific boatloader than decrypt it and open it in a hex editor. Looking at the string table will give you the whole list.

Anybody figure out how to make a rom dump yet?

I still have the original English (Dutch region) rom on my MDA Pro. Before I upgrade it to Jasjar iMate rom I want to have an original rom dump, in case I have to use the warranty.
Either is there already am original MDA Pro English/Dutch rom somewhere out there (I can't find it) or is there a way to make an sd dump?
This should help!?

Yes but......
What is D2S????
Please could you explai step by step what we've got to do to backup entire ROM please?
I'm not a developer and there are a lot of answer from a lot of people about original ROM backup (expecially for MDA Pro)
Thank you very much
Lucam
Allright! Anybody try this yet? So if I understand correctly the
"d2s 70100000 04000000" (64.00 M OS TrueFFS) command will make the COMPLETE rom backup? Otherwise, if they are separate (ext rom, radio etc) I get more than 160 M.

Its there on the same page: Get into bootloader command mode and use d2s command with the appropriate key.
i understand... but
So, i've got to do:
1)- press light + power + reset
2)- enter password 'UNIVERSAL'
3)- type 'd2s 70100000 04000000'
4)- the MDA Pro start to copy ROM to ....? (SD card? or what?)
and what about Extended ROM backup?
Excuse me for my problem understanding the page you referred but could you write a step-by-step way to completely backup ROM (ROM + Extended ROM). Please? i'm sure it could help a lot of people.
Thank you very much!

No problem, but I want to try it out myself first before I can give you any answers. I am using my MDA Pro everyday so at the moment I have no time to experiment with it and I don't want to risk f**king it up.......
Maybe someone else here can give you your answers. I will try to make a rom dump this weekend. I'll let you know here..........
STEP-BY-STEP
I found some pages who describes how backup an original ROM (in case of MDA PRO) to have it in case you need warranty.
I use this indications to make a usefull "step-by-step" to do it (...and excuse for my poor english)
What you need:
MDA Pro ;-)
USB cable
PC
1 sd card or mmc card (at least 128MB)
MTTY.EXE (you can find it in internet but the version can use usb connection and not only COM connection)
NTRW.EXE (you can find it in internet.this file must to be copied on your pc on C:\ not in other folders)
If you have ActiveSync installed on your PC on ActiveSync connection settings uncheck USB connection
Before connecting your MDA you should bring it into the boot loader mode. This can be done by simultaneously pressing power + camera buttons and at the same time the soft reset button with the stylus.
The password to enter bootloader is UNIVERSAL
insert a BLANK sd-card
Link the usb cable
Run MTTY.EXE and select USB connection
After that a terminal window will popup in that window.
Type d2s and press enter. Your MDA will start copying the ROM to the sd card. The screen of your MDA will be dark (no light), but you will see it counting up to 100%. When it reaches 100% it will say it is calculating the checksum. Give it some time till its done and it will say checksum ok.
Please note that somebody refers that typing d2s nothing works. There are others command to type due to what you want to obtain. They are:
d2s 60000000 00800000 8M radio rom
d2s 70000000 00100000 1M SPL
d2s 70100000 04000000 64.00 M OS TrueFFS
d2s 74100000 00a00000 10.00 M extrom DSK2ART00 fatfsd
d2s 74b00000 02c40000 44.25 M root filesystem TRUEFFS
Somebody refers that the command 'd2s 70100000 04000000' is can be used to backup entire ROM so if d2s doesn't work please use 'd2s 70100000 04000000'.
After finishing the transfer of the German ROM from your MDA to the SD card, put your SD card into an SD card reader connected to your pc. Your pc might pop up a warning message that says your SD Card is not formatted would you like to format? Click No and open a Command prompt (DOS) window.
Change directory to your root directory (cd c:\) and run the command ntrw read German.nb1 x: where x is the drive letter of your sd card. That command will create the ROM Backup file of your German ROM into your C drive root directory by the name of German.nb1. Make sure you keep German.nb1 in a safe place and use a copy of that file for the rest of the procedure. Note that after finishing the copy from your SD card to German.nb1 file ntrw might give you an error, just don’t pay attention to it.
Please confirm it or give me indication if I wrong giving this indication.
Bye
LucaM
To dump rom from your MDA pro need to enter:
1) d2s 70000000 00100000 <-- bootloader
2) d2s 70100000 04000000 <-- Operation System
3) d2s 74100000 00a00000 <-- Extended ROM
what is necessary?
Ok but isn't it necessary only to backup Operating System and Extended Rom to re-stabilish in future the MDA Pro as just bought?
Bye
Ok, I have been trying everything I could with the directions of ciapal, but no succes.....
btw: The correct button press sequence for bootloader is: Light-power-reset and NOT camera/p/rs
I get the following command sequence:
password UNIVERSAL
HTCSPass.<YHTCEUSB>d2s
Not allow operation!
password UNIVERSAL
HTCSPass.<YHTCEUSB>d2s 70100000 04000000
Not allow operation!
USB>
(the square is a vertical)
Anyone any constructive ideas about this issue? I'm surprised that obviously nobody has created a rom image from their Universal yet!
I get the same thing with MDA Pro... I am really keen to try the ROM upgrade but really want a backup of the original ROM first!!
Any ideas what is going wrong?

Buzz did it again- I think. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=190925#190925
He managed to dump the rom of the Universal device. It would be great if someone could dump his original T-mobile Rom, this in case of repair.

hi
something must be wrong as when i enter the rom dump commands (tried all of them) nothing happens... the task 32 and info 7 etc work as described though
d2s on QTEK 9000 French Version bought without any provider
I have the same problem,
On mtty, password seems OK, info or task 32 give the same output but d2s return each time Not allow operation....
What does it mean ? Is there any kind of unlocking procedure to do on a device bought directly without any provider subscription ?
Should I stop extended rom installation programs with a soft reset just after a hard reset to access to this command ?
Any help are welcome...
Ecze
When I type d2s mtty says "not allow operation".
I connected my Universal via USB cable typed "d2s" in the window of mtty. When I pressed enter, mtty said "not allow operation". I read at http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=30109&highlight= that there is password for entering bootloader. Where should I enter this password?

Custom splash image

I have attached all the files needed to do this on windows, mac, and linux at the end of this post. The creation of these apps, goes to the respective people, including Koush, JF, Infernix, and alansj.
Want to get rid of that t-mobile boot image?
Disconnect, over at Gotontheinter.net, has figured out how to do it using the new unlocked bootloader from the g1 dev phone. Below is a quote from the source. ( http://www.gotontheinter.net/node/9 )
"So you want to join the party and flash your own boot image, but its a weird undocumented format and you don't want to spend all year researching it in the source. Well, I'm here to help.
It is actually very simple. Start with an image you want to use, make sure it is 320x480 with 8bpp color. (In my examples, I'll use splash.png: PNG image data, 320 x 480, 8-bit/color RGBA, non-interlaced
Just make sure you have ImageMagick installed, and the utilities from the source build. (Specifically, rgb2565.)
$ convert -depth 8 splash.png rgb:splash.raw
# Make sure it is 460800 bytes long!
$ rgb2565 < splash.raw > splash.raw565
# Triple-check size before flashing! 307200 bytes
$ fastboot flash splash1 splash.raw565
$ fastboot reboot
Lets break it down. the convert turns it from a png (or any supported image format) into a raw 8-bits-per-color no-alpha data file. This file should be 460800 bytes - no more, no less.
Next, rgb2565 converts that file to a raw 565 16bit file (for the framebuffer on the G1.) This file is exactly 307200 bytes long - if its not, you messed up somewhere.
Finally, you use fastboot to flash the splash image and reboot. Instead of the B&W T-mobile logo, now you will see your custom splash screen. Congrats! "
Thanks to Infernix for the following extended how to:
1. find an image you like
2. edit it with your favourite editing suite and scale it to 320x480
3. after scaling it, convert the colorspace to 256 colors (8-bit)
4. Save it as a PNG without alpha channel/transparency.
5. Use the convert tool from the ImageMagick toolkit (use cygwin, or a linux box): convert -depth 8 splash.png rgb:splash.raw
6. Check that the splash.raw file is exactly 460800 bytes!
7. Compile the android tool called rgb2565 (gcc -O2 -Wall -Wno-unused-parameter -o rgb2565 to565.c)
8. Run the conversion command: rgb2565 < splash.raw > splash.raw565
9. Check that splash.raw565 is 307200 bytes. if it isn't, DO NOT FLASH IT ON YOUR PHONE. double-check your steps, something went wrong.
10. Boot your phone in SPL mode (hold camera +power).
11. After SPL shows, plug in USB connector/cord/whateva and push trackball or hit back. SPL restarts and now shows FASTBOOT.
12. If on windows, you need to install http://dl.google.com/android/android_usb_windows.zip
13. Compile android (see http://source.android.com/download) and make sure the fastboot binary (mydroid/out/host/*/bin/fastboot) is compiled (* being your OS)
14. use fastboot devices to check whether if your phone is showing up. if it isn't, try it as root (user might not have permission to access the usb device).
15. Double check that splash.raw565 is 307200 bytes. if it isn't, DO NOT FLASH IT ON YOUR PHONE.
16. Flash the splash image: fastboot flash splash1 splash.raw565
17. Reboot your phone to check: fastboot reboot
The instructions below are for users trying to flash their own boot image using windows.
The instructions below are also JF's work and not my own:
Instructions:
(note: you have to check the USB device in Computer Manager when the phone is in fastboot mode. The computer sees the phone in fastboot mode as a different device than the phone in normal mode)
Download the file and extract it in the same folder as adb. (if you don't have adb yet, it's included in the android SDK for windows. go download it!)
Take out the usb cable and boot up your phone into the SPL (back + power). You have to have the dev bootloader for this to work (white background with 3 skateboarding androids).
Plug in the usb cable, and make sure the display on the phone changes from "Serial0" to "FASTBOOT". If it doesn't, try pressing the back button.
If it asks you to install drivers, then go ahead and use the same usb drivers that you used to get adb working. You can skip the rest of the instructions. Fastboot should be working for you now.
If it doesn't ask you to install a driver, you need to figure out if the correct driver is loaded already.
Right click on My Computer, and click Manage, then go to the device manager
If you see an "ADB Interface" category at/near the top, with "HTC Dream" under it, then you're good to go. Fastboot should be working for you.
If you don't see an "ADB Interface" category, then it's likely that windows loaded the USB Mass Storage driver for it automatically. In the device manager, go down to "Universal Serial Bus Controllers", and see if you have at least one "USB Mass Storage device". If you have multiple ones, you'll need to go through each to find the correct one.
To find the correct one, right click on the USB Mass Storage device and click Properties. Go to the Details tab. In the combo box at the top that says "Device Instance Id", bring up the pull down and choose "Compatible Ids". If that is the correct device, then you will see 3 entries:
* USB\Class_ff&SubClass_42&Prot_03
* USB\Class_ff&SubClass_42
* USB\Class_ff
Once you find the correct device, go to the driver tab, and click "Update Driver". Choose "No, not this time", then "Install from a list or specific location", then "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install", and then choose the same usb driver that you used to get adb to work.
After that's done, you should be good to go. Open a command prompt and type fastboot devices and it should list the phone.
Here is a very good set of instructions for applying this to your phone if you haven't gotten it already: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467064

another way to convert to 565 raw, but from ANY format, is to use ffmpeg like so:
ffmpeg -i input.png -f rawvideo -pix_fmt rgb565 output.565
where input.png could be jpg, gif, tiff, etc. whatever you want.

It's possible to modify the code to show a different startup animation: for example, the cylon strobing eye animation that was present up till Android V0.9.
Check out \frameworks\base\libs\surfaceflinger\BootAnimation.cpp. Just need to redeploy the one surfaceflinger file to see the changes.

when i do an 'adb devices', the phone is listed...
can I do this using windows? I made an image, with paint shop pro, and used convert to convert it to the raw format and it turned out to be 403,200 bytes, is that wrong? What did I do? Also, can I use rgb2565 on Windows? or do I have to run this in linux? Lastly, when using fastboot, do I boot my phone into the dev bootloader and connect to it via adb shell and then type that command?
Any help would be great!

This list together with instructions at http://www.gotontheinter.net/node/9 should get you going.
The tools mentioned here are commandline tools.
I have attached static versions of the tools mentioned for linux x86 to this thread. However I can't guarantee that they will work for you. they should, though.
A quick note: you can save directly to raw format from gimp or photoshop (allowing you to skip the imagemagick step). It just has to be 8-bit (which has been the default when I tried it).
Also, I attached rgb20565 and fastboot compiled for OS X 10.5.
Could someone upload the compiled binaries for Windows for those lazy people out there (me included)?
Here is the compiled binary for rgb2565
I don't have the compiled binary for fastboot, hopefully someone else will post it for you guys...I found it easier, way easier, to do this on a linux box.
After a bit of tinkering, i finally got it. The biggest problem i was having was that after i booted into the SPL, THEN i was supposed to connect the USB cable... i had it plugged in and then tried to boot SPL and nothing happened. Everything is great now. Big thanks
Thanks Stericson for the compiled rgb2565 file(for windows)
Can someone please upload the fastboot binary? I don't know how to compile it myself....Thanks a lot in advance for everyones previous hardwork on this and forthcoming.
to build the file yourself go to the root android source directory (mine is linux, but it looks like this "/home/ryan/android_source"), your's might look something like "C:/Source Codes/android/" or whatever. Once you navigate to that directory (via the command prompt... just go to start > run > and type in 'cmd' and hit enter, then use the 'cd' command to get there... e.g., "cd C:/Source Codes/android/"), once there, simply type 'make' and hit enter and it will start building everything, it might take a few minutes to complete. Then just go into the 'out' directory, then it's under "host/windows-x86/bin" (i'm not sure about the windows-x86 part, it might just be windows or something like it, i'm just assuming based on mine), once in that folder you'll have the fastboot as well as all of the other binary files ready to go. Then you can just type fastboot w/e w/e and it'll work just fine.
Here's my updated bootloader logo:
It's kind of difficult to see, my camera sucks... it's my fraternity letters with the crest in the background. Here's the image i used for it:
big head white robot guy
Id like to have the big head robot one in the first of this post, mind sharing the properly pressed, flipped, shook, stirred and what not, Id just like to dump the tmob splash, really anybody who has tried tested images attach them here, if you don't mind sharing...
just figured I'd ask as I didnt see any posted anywhere I don't always do so well at looking for stuff, at least thats what my wife is always b1tchen in my ear...
bhang
Ok, I'm sure I can do that, but now how do I get the android source onto my windows installation? Do I use cygwin? How, if so?
Thanks so much....
BTW, I've tried googling this, and still am, with no luck, thusfar.
Here's what I finally settled on.
Take 2...
Awesome, thanks for the help!
You mentioned that disconnect figured out how to do it with a dev bootloader - does this mean my rooted rc30 phone should be upgraded to a dev phone bootloader for it to work? Or will I be able to perform it on my modified rc30 v1.2 setup?
thanks

How to Flash Your Vogue - Linux Users

I take no responsibility if you brick your Vogue
Right now I thought that I should put something like this up so that my fellow Linux users can flash their Vogues without having to try and resort to using WINE or installing Windows, like I tried and failed
For this guide I am using Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat 10.10 so if things differ from your setup then I apologise.
Right on to the guide at hand.
1) Go to the following link and download HTCFlasher: Link
Now the it is a .deb file type so if you aren't using a Debain based Linux Distro then you can get the source code here and compile it from there
2) Now you also need the following file to get HTCFlasher to work properly: Link. Again this is a .deb file and I don't know if you can get the source for it or not but oh well.
3) Right, now that you have those two files you can now install them so to do this you need to go and launch the Terminal and do the following
Code:
cd Downloads (I'm assuming here that this is your default download directory)
sudo dpkg -i htcflasher_20080806-1_i386.deb
once you've done that enter your root password - you won't have to do it again
now for the gtkdialog - again do the same as above but with the gtkdialog
Code:
sudo dpkg -i gtkdialog_0.7.20-4_i386.deb
Right now after all that is all installed HTCFlasher will be able to be used properly now. Now on to the fun part, flashing your chosen ROM.
For this part I used NFSFAN's WM6.5 Custom ROM although you can use whatever ROM you want.
1) so once you have your ROM all nicely downloaded and un-RAR'd you need to to into Applications -> Accessories -> HTCFlasher
2) click on the little circle next to the option that says "Get Device Info", plug your Vogue in and click ok. Once it's done it's thing a new window will popup, close out of it and next to the Get Device info line will be soomething similar to this
Code:
CID : [TELNZ001] - ModelID: [VOGU001]
3) Put your phone into bootloader mode by pressing and holding the power+camera button while pushing in the soft reset button with your stylus. This can be awkward to hold but just find your own way to get it done.
4) Now click on the "Flash NBH file" little circle and click ok. Navigate your way to where you extracted your rom, double click it and a little message will pop up saying flash file '/home/user name/Downloads/RUU_signed.nbh'?
Click ok and let it rip. Should only take a couple of minutes. Once the ROM has been flashed click ok on the popup and then you are back to the main HTCFlasher menu do the next step BUT MAKE SURE YOUR VOGUE IS STILL PLUGGED IN!
5) Right so you are back to the main menu, click on the little circle next to Bootloader cmd prompt and click ok. MAKE SURE YOUR VOGUE IS STILL PLUGGED IN OR THIS WILL NOT WORK!
6) Once the Cmd Prompt has opened which is basically instantly type the following code. Please note that when I write {enter} you press the enter key.
Code:
set 16 0 {enter}
task 3 {enter}
Now soft reset your phone and VIOLA!! You have just flashed your Vogue on Linux Give yourself a pat on the back and enjoy your shiney new ROM!
A big thanks goes to mrkite38 who gave me that last bit of code. Without his help my Vogue would still be in bootloader mode
Could a mod please sticky this for me? Just as a reference for othe Linux users
Thanks a lot
Thanks for this info about flashing with Linux.
I had a struggle with finding gtkdialog couldn't be found in 10.10 repos.
But after using your gtkdialog link, everything worked out fine.
Many thanks for that.
Yeah I had heaps of problems trying to kind the gtkdiag files needed as well until I used the magic that is Google haha, took about 30 mins of searching until I found that particular version that worked though.
Glad that it helped you out
Ooh... nice addition. I always get questions about flashing from Linux, but I have no knowledge on the matter...
Thanks for putting this together..

Yay!! Thanks egzthunder1!!!
Once I figure out how to use Linux ROM Kitchen I'll do another write up for that but at the moment I'm content using NuAngels NuVogue instead of cooking my own ROM

[Q] Widfier S: Can't obtain Identifier Token

MY ISSUE seems unique!! Please, is anyone able to figure this out?
I have a HTC Wilfire S A510e that I've been trying to root for three months!
It's stats are:
***LOCKED***
Marvel PVT SHIP S-ON RL
MICROP-0451
Radio 7.57.39.10M
Android: 2.3.5
ROM: 2.26.401.3
Kernal: 2.6.35.10
HBoot: 1.09.
HTC Sense Version: 2.1
SO...I created my a/c on HTCDEV.COM, tick all boxes etc. No need to update bootloader, as per instructions, so I "proceed to next step".
I created \Android ( in My Documents) on my Dell Latitude D630 (using Windows XP); downloaded the "Fastboot binary, Windows (unzip the file before executing)" file [Fastboot-Zip] to \Android & also the recommended Android SDK zip, Java Runtime Environment. I already have HTC Sync 3.3.63. All unzipped. I set up my HTC- fastboot off, usb debugging enabled, bootloader screen up> click on fastboot, usb into it, the phone registers "Fastboot USB" and then open the cmd prompt on my pc.
The problem I encounter is this:
On the cmd prompt instructions:
I open cmd prompt- My pc cmd line says c:\documents and settings\administrater>[blinking cursor]. I type- c: cd \Android at the blinking cursor. That's okay as my cmd line returns- c:\documents and settings\administrater>[blinking cursor] again.
I type- c: \Android> fastboot oem get_identifier_token at the blinking cursor [hit enter] and...
Nothing happens! Nothing at all- not even the "waiting for device" problem that seems to be common at this stage.
I'm meant to get:
INFO <Please cut following info>
INFO <<<< Identifier Token Start >>>>
INFO {**multi lines of numerical text**}
I get nothing!
What's going wrong?? I've done weeks and weeks of research using google search; read hundreds of threads on multiple sites; in frustration I've even asked a question on Yahoo Answers, Android Forums & emailed HTCdev, but had only one answer and it was to use another port and another cable, both of which I've done, neither worked.
I just don't get it. Any assistance would be fantastic.
Thanks, Gerry

First things first, your problem is not unique..........just less often found
The reason you are not able to get an Identifier token is because of HTC Sync............. HTC Sync usually tends to block any ADB or Fastboot commands
So all you have to do is uninstall HTC Sync, don't worry about it as uninstalling it won't remove the drivers
Thanks very much for replying csoulr666
I promptly uninstalled HTC Sync, leaving:
HTC BMP USB Driver (Ver: 1.0.5375 ) 0.35MB
HTC Driver Installer (4.5..001 ) 2.82MB
and have tried the "get token" process again.
It has not worked.
Do you think that I should also uninstall the HTC Driver Installer?

It should work now IMHO, did you see if your device is being recognized using "fastboot devices"???
Plus setting the folder to apply commands("cd"), try using the complete path that comes in the address bar in My Computer/Windows Explorer..........It would be like C................documents and settings......blah blah blah
Hi,
If you can not find a solution for your method of getting the token, you may try another method that worked fine for me.
1) Search for HTC Wildfire S All-In-One Toolkit V2.1 post.
2) Read carefully the whole post.
3) Uninstall everything related to HTC (HTC Sync, USB drivers, everything).
4) Do not use USB hubs or USB 3.0 ports. Enable USB Debugging at the phone settings and plug the phone directly to an USB 2.0 port without the SIM and SD cards (they may be erased while unlocking). Choose the Charge only option in your phone.
5) Proceed with the tool steps (select the step and click on 'go')(in useful links there is a link to a step by step guide):
a) Install the drivers.
b) Register at HTCDev (this is already done).
c) Get the ID (beware, you will see and empty command prompt, close it, and a second command window will appear with the token)
d) Submit the token to HTCDev.
e) Get the Unlock_code.bin file from your e-mail account.
f) Unlock the boot loader.
6) Once you have finished, I recommend to install the clockworkmod recovery with the same tool. Download the right version GSM or CDMA from the Clockworkmod official site. Beware: make sure that you download the right version for your phone. I think yours is GSM, but I am not an expert, sorry. It may be fatal if the wrong version is installed (brick). Choose the option your own recovery in the tool.
7) Create a backup before doing anything else.
8) You are ready to get a permanent root or install a ROM.
I hope this helps you. Feel free to ask any question. Regards.

Thanks for your continued time and assistance csoulr666. It's taken me a while to reply because after having no sucess having followed your advice, I decided to delete EVERYTHING and IT ALL FRESH, monitoring all downloads as they happened and ensuring I followed all steps and instructions PRECISELY, in case I did something wrong the first time around 3 months ago!
And following your recommendation I retried using the full path when typing both commands and it still didn't work. I'm not sure what you meant by "........your device is being recognized using "fastboot devices"???"
However, as you've mentioned "fastboot", I think I've identified an issue with the fastboot binaries from HTCdev. Please see my new post below.

aWFSuser- thank you for the advice.Yes, I do use the c: cd \Android command first, everytime I try the cmd process, even if it's after somthing silly like removing the sd card from the phone, putting a new one in (to render the "as disk drive" option available in the "USB connection type") on the handset, changing the USB port I'm using to a different one etc.
But thanks.

Thanks so much ukyo_tachibana.
I will try this method, if I have failed to identify the issue correctly.
After having the problem of being unable to obtain my identifier token for so long, (trying now for 3 months!), I've been looking for a way to unlock bootloader & root- that works for the Wildfire S WITHOUT having to use the "get_identifier" process.
THANK YOU for this method!
It's taken me a while because after having no sucess, I decided to delete EVERYTHING and IT ALL FRESH, monitoring all downloads as they happened and ensuring I followed all steps and instructions PRECISELY, in case I did something wrong the first time around 3 months ago!
So, once again:
I created a folder: double click Local Disk C: then \Document&Settings and \administrater >Make a new folder. Called it Android.
Downloaded from HTCdev's links- HTC Sync, Java Runtime Enviroment & Google Android SDK to \Android.
(1) SYNC. Uninstalled Sync, as per csoulr666's advice. Used Control Panel> Add or Remove programs. This left HTC Driver Installer & HTC BMP USB Driver & also setup_3.3.63 (in \Android).
(2) JAVA. Opened chromeinstall-7u51(Runtime) and installed. Checked it installed correctly via Verify Java Version on java.com.
(3) SDK. Unzipped the zipped folder adt-bundle-windows-x86-201... It created a new folder- "adt-bundle-windows-x86-201.." with 2 subfolders & 1 application in it; subfolders (1)"eclipse" & (2)"sdk" along with the application "SDK Manager". NOW, as per instruction following the SDK download, (just in case it was relevant to what I am doing, although I don't think so as Eclipse is a developer tool as I understand it), I opened the eclipse sub-folder & opened (ran) the Eclipse application which set itself up in \workforce. I exited Eclipse in case it interfered with anything else. I did not run, open or do anything else with the adt folder at this stage.
Set up my HTC as per instruction- fastboot off, debugging on & usb to disk drive, (I've also tried it on the charge only setting), downloaded fastboot-win binaries from HTCdev to \Android. Clicked unzip and it generated 1 new folder _MACOSX & an application- fastboot; both in \Android. NOW HTCdev says "open cmd prompt...etc". So I did and retried the process twice. Once typing c: cd \Android. Then the c: \Android> fastboot oem...etc. It didn't work. So I repeated the process using the full path in both the commands- c:\Documents and Settings\administrater\ cd \Android; then c:\Doc...Sett...\admin...\Android> fastboot....Once again nothing. IT DID NOT WORK.
HOWEVER: I did notice 2 things!
(1) Probably nothing but there was a new folder created in \administrater, right beside the Android folder. As I was working from \Android, I didn't notice when happened. I did not do it. It called itself .android; ( "a dot" and a lowrecase "a" for android). I can't recall at what stage of the process this came into being. It contains 1 folder- "avd", which is empty, & 3 files- "adbkey" file, "adbkey.pub" file & "ddms.cfg" file.
(2) Just, following the latest failure of the cmd process working, I thought maybe I was meant to do more than just unzip the fastboot-win, so I went to the fastboot application and tried to open it, It said:
"The application failed to start because AdbWinApi.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem"
So I deleted it, re-downloaded from HTCdev, unzipped. Opened prompt, reran the cmd "get_identifier" process and it still hasn't worked. Again I to run the fastboot.exe in \Android
It still says "...application failed...AdbWinApi was not found. Re-installing the application...".
Does this mean the file download itself on HTCdev, com is corrupt? Could THIS BE the source of my problem????
Thanks.
I'm attaching a zip with the files I use for this stuff............Extract them in a folder, use the "cd" command to it and then try to obtain the token

Yes!! Thank you for the files. HTC's MUST BE corrupt, as your's have worked a treat & also. they behave differently ( "fastboot" application) when <highlight/right click > is used!! No error message! THANK YOU for your files. ***
They worked & after three months and hundreds of hours research, I HAVE MY TOKEN!! You guys are BRILLIANT!
However, there is a new issue, perhaps you can help with this also...
I copied the token exactly as HTC stated on their website. I started at <<<Identifier Token Start>>> & ended with <<<IIdentifier Token End>>>.
There are 18 lines in total- 16 lines of alpha/numeric sandwiched between the above 2 of text.
Both of HTC's examples also have the same line-count (18 in total 16 + 2) & layout as mine.
But when submitted, the website rejects it and the following error is returned:
Error Code: Invalid Bootloader Token Length.
Error Reason: The submitted Token appears to be the wrong length and won't work.
I've spent most of last night on this. I've tried logging in and out of HTCdev, copied and pasted multiple attempts (busy web traffic perhaps). I have cleared browser cookies/cache & history in case it's something like that. Counted and recounted my token in comparison with their examples, in case I made a mistake somehow. What am I doing wrong??.
Also, today when I tried the cmd get_token process, I got a different token i.e. a completely different set of 16 lines of alpha/numeric text. Is the token different every time it's requested?
Thank you all for your expert help

see whether you have copied the code correctly as instructed at HTCdev
Hi,
The token seems to be different every time you retrieve it, I don't know why (maybe someone can enlighten us ).
Regarding the token copy/paste. At the command window: right click, select mark, draw the rectangle enclosing the <<<< Identifier Token Start >>>> and <<<<< Identifier Token End >>>>> (this also includes all the alphanumeric token), right click again to copy. Now, paste it in Notepad, PSPad or any other text editor, and make sure that there are no white spaces, tabs, or any other special character, such as this example:

If you select previous lines, there are no unwanted characters, check it. Once you are sure that everything is okay, submit the token to HTC.
I hope this post helps you. Regards.
By the way, two comments:
1) Note that unlocking HBoot is a destructive process, you will loose everything in the phone memory (similar to a factory reset). Besides, the SIM card and the SD card may be also erased, so remove both before starting.
2) If you want to install a custom rom, you don't know which one to install yet and you want some help, I can suggest one that has been working like a charm for more than one year in my Wildfire S. It is based on the last stock rom, but with several tweaks to overcome the limitations of the terminal (amount of RAM, internal storage, etc.). Do not hesitate to ask.
Regards.

BRILLIANT!!
I followed your recommendation- copy to notepad- there were white spaces:
Note: the <right click/copy> function was not available in cmd prompt.
I had to "mark" and then ctrl & c to copy.
I had spaces at the end of each of the token's lines.
Thanks. Token successfully submitted- just over ten minutes ago. Awaiting an email back from HTCdev with an unlock key and link for Unlock completion!
I assumed I'd have it instantaneously...but I'll be patient; it's taken this long to get this far...what's a few hours? more.
I have not given ANY thought to ROMs etc.
This part of the process baffles me.
This all began three months ago when I got the Wildfire S- my first ANDROID phone- and I noticed there are loads of pre-installed apps on it, many of which I have absolutely no interest in: like Peep, News & Weather, Maps & tons more via: Applications>Running Services>All. TO MY UTTER AMAZMENT I could not delete any of them!
Call me old fashioned but I would like to decide what I put on my phone and have total control over them. On this phone certain apps would start up of their own volition i.e. when the handset was powered off, then on; gather information and data; all without me even using/ activating them e.g. Google services/ Facebook. I could stop them manually, but like I said they would reassert themselves on start-up.
I'm unclear yet exactly what I can safely get rid of without damaging my handset, I need to do research I know, as some processes may be vital to the phone's operation, but I have been consumed with this first basic step- Unlocking the BootLoader.
Ideally, I would love to start with an empty phone- just the basics: calls/messages/phone book/ calender/ alarm facilities with a browser.
A normal, basic phone.
Any extra apps I am then free to decide upon, install, set permissions (where possible) & remove as & if I choose.
Thanks.
Hi,
Did you get the unlock binary file? It should take no longer than a few minutes (or even less) to send it to your e-mail account. Did you successfully unlock the HBoot? Let us know . Regards.

Hi ukyo_tachibana,
Thank you for your ongoing interest. I appreciate it greatly.
I have been checking my email address all night last night, and also today, awaiting my email from HTCdev.
No! As yet (over 24 hours later), I have not yet received my response.
HTCdev's site confirmed that I successfully sent my token when I did. I remained logged in for a hour and a half afterwards, just so the site would notice/ remember me. Sounds daft, but I really want this episode to finish now after all this time. I really thought I had cracked this step!
The web page said to expect and email with my unlock code and a link to directions to help me complete the process.
Now, over 24 hours later, I still have not received any communication from them. I check my email address- the one I used to register with them and, in late December of last year, communicate as to why I the "get_identifier token" process was not working- ever hour or so for the file & link. So I'm sure the site has my correct email address.
I was actually wondering what to do now as I'm unsure as whether I should wait X amount of time, contact them via the "contact us" option on their web site or resend a token to them and risk confusing the process. Basically I'm just playing the waiting/ unsure-of-next-move game.
Thanks.
Hi,
Do not despair . The token should be send to you in question of seconds (but in order to be safe wait a few minutes, no more than 5 minutes). The email sender should be something like [email protected] and the subject should be The key to unlocking your HTC Device (at least, this is what I received).
I would:
1) Search for the email in any other folder than the Inbox, such as spam. Your email provider may have archived the message in a different folder.
If you are not able to find the message:
2) Try to find your email white list and add htc.com and htcdev.com to the list, in order to avoid that emails from HTC or HTC Dev go to the spam folder or are erased.
3) Check that you activated your account. Register at the website is not enough, you also must activate your account clicking on the link that HTC send to confirm your email address. I know that this question is a bit stupid, but it just to cover all the possibilities that I can think about.
4) Get and send again the token.
I hope this helps you. Regards.
I have my email now.
Before I proceed, as I'm a complete techno-novice, I was just looking into how to create a full back up of my stock ROM, in case I decided to pass on the phone later I can return it to it's current out-of-the box condition- with all it's apps etc. Also I need to be clear on the root process files. I don't have the original SD Card. I have two to hand though- a 2GB & 4 GB.
Step 1- Unlock BootLoader.
REALLY, REALLY NOT sure of the rest:
Step 2- download CWM Recovery from (http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager/) 5.0.2.8 for the Wiidfire S to my PC.
?Move to SD Card
?Hboot>Recovery>chooseCWM and there should be an option to "Back-Up/ Restore"
?Select this option and "Back-Up". Wait for stoc ROM to be copied onto SD Card. When it has this is the back-up phase complete
As I understand it this will give me a re-installation disk type set up for my current ROM.
Step 3
?Find and download a file to my PC called "Root Zip".
?Transfer it to my SD Card
?Hboot>Recovery>choose file and it roots the phone itself.
Step4
?Find and download a file called "SuperSU"
?Move to SD Card and install.
??This gives me an app called "SuperSU" which allows me now to modify my phone how I like it to be- prevent apps starting at boot/ remove any preinstalled ones that I don't want or do I need to install a custom ROM?
Thanks,
