How to Power Down a Universal - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

Does anyone know how to power down a Universal ?? Just like for example a Wizard or Hermes. When you press and hold the power button on those two devices you get asked if you would like to power the device down and once choosing Yes the device is turned off.
On the Universal if you press and hold the power button all that happens is the light that dims.
Any Ideas ??

VJEschaton can do this I think.
V

Remove and re-insert the battery - that's what I do when I want the device totally 'off'. Then just press the power button to start it up.

VJEschaton? What is that ?

I am aware of that method... But that is really unhandy

Look in my signature. Find my website - Google might assist.
From there, find VJEschaton, install and launch the shortcut "Sleep".

Hi vijay555,
it's possible your Vjcandela starting with the "camera" button "press and hold" with a simple registry changing or needed a third party software like buttonmapper?

VJCandela could be written to do press and hold, I think the lite version does already. For VJeschaton you may have to make your own shortcut, it wasn't a widely used feature. It's Intel Xscale only (ie not hermes). Make a shortcut with -sleepV

But with VJEschaton do not turn off the device...only sleep mode.

It puts the xscale into deep sleep mode, which is deeper then normal standby. It's for long term shutdown.V

Unfortunately not is possible turn off completely the device.Like s200..9100..etc..!Sleep mode yes,no network gsm,but always an minimal usage of battery.

What button (besides power) wakes 8525 up?

Guys - the only way I can bring my 8525 out of STANDY is with the power button. My "KeyLock" is set to "Lock buttons if device is locked" but its NOT locked yet, just in standby. The only button that can get it to wake up is a quick-push of the Power-Button.
I remember an app being on Black 2.5 that said you could push ANY button to wake it up OR another option of only the Power Button, but I can't find that on Black 3.01. I think it was under the "Personal" menu list.
I'd like to wake it up with the green-phone button or with ANY button, but that doesn't happen. Am I missing something - how are you waking up yours?
Thanks.
Did you try Settings>System>Key Lock?
Select the "don't lock any buttons"

Maybe the button assignments are set to <None>. Check Start>Settings>Buttons
Running Black 3.0, my device can be woken using any button when set to the setting you describe (as per normal behaviour). Sorry, doesn't help much I know, perhaps its a 3.01 thing.
And mine cant. so strange!

Thanks - Yes, I have it set to "lock buttons if device is locked," so I would think that would mean any button could turn it on, if its not locked, but thats NOT the way mine is working. I ALWAYS have to hit the powerbutton to wake it up. I'll keep looking, but I'm sure there was a 2nd small app that had something to do with this, but its just not in 3.01. Thanks again.

[Q] Is it possible to use Vol-Down button for Power on/off?

The power button on HD is in an inconvenient position and hard to press.
Is it possible to use any other button (like Vol-Down) to power off and on?
I tried AEButton, but it does not seem to have an option to "power-on".
Thanks
Power Off would be possible, however to Power On the device you always need to press the configured power button. This is since AEButton is a software solution and does not alter the hardware settings. Thus making it only run while Windows Mobile is on (by altering the Windows Settings), and since when the device is off WinMo isn't running, so it won't work while the device is off.

It's supposed to be somewhat difficult ...
If you don't already know, virtually ALL power buttons are somewhat hard to press/use. It's supposed to be that way. If they were easier to press, you could easily power off your phone while it's in your pocket by accidentally hitting the volume up or down keys, or any other accidental push.

I actually meant the state into which the device goes when you press the power button once (Sleep, suspend ... whatever that is called, although this state is sometimes called power-off), and not complete power-off (by holding the power button).
In this Sleep/Suspend, is it not possible to remap the button?
I mean that it is still able to receive calls in this state, so something is running. But not WinMo?

You are right for accidental presses. However that can be taken care by assigning (if possible) a double press instead of single.
Oh, and I am sorry, I did not mean full power off, only sleep/suspend.
For PDAs, such a button placement may be ok, as you anyway have to use both hands to hold the PDA and take out/use the stylus.
But for this phone, single hand use is important. I dont use the stylus most of the time.
.
to power on with up/down control, change DefaultKeyLock to 0 in registry.

Thanks!! That's almost does it, but for the double press.
I added single press of Vol-Dn in AEB to Today Screen, and double press to a MortScript with PowerOff command.
Now to see if it accidentally comes on in the pouch...

Add auto lock to the power button?

Hi,
In general I am very happy with my new TP2, however, I keep forgetting to press the lock button (hold down the call end buttoun until it vibrates) prior to pussing the power button and putting it in the case.
Does anyone know of a way of adding this function to the power button, so that it automatically locks?

If you use S2U2 you get this functionality, I don't know how to do it with normal screen lock.
Dave
Or if you use Throttle Lock you can use a pattern to unlock your device, and you can set it up that when you push the powerbutton it gets locked with the pattern, or that when you push the powerbutton it will wait a x given minutes and then your device get's locked with a pattern.
I don't know how to do it with normal screen lock.
i have this on mine dont know how i got it take it came with some app i have installed
Anyone know how to fix this so that the phone's standard lock autolocks? Tried throttle etc but I still really like the simplicity of the normal phonelock, just need to get it to do it by itself.
Homescreen plusplus (Batterystatus) has this option. You can select lock on standby, it uses normal wm lock app. Used it on my Wizard, not sure if it's compatible with the TP2...

Use TouchLockPro as locking utility. Automatically locks at power on and unlocks by light sensor. And you can configure a key unlock sequence. And with a slide to answer solution, you can only lock the hardware keys at incoming call.
if you simply press the power button that switches off the screen and locks all buttons.
uilt-in WM feature.
If you set a password it also automatically locks it
how do you enable ALL BUTTONS UNLOCK ?
in older devices there was an option somewhere in the keys section, now only the power button turns the phone on,. i want all the keys to turn it on, since i use the s2u2...

When not removed from ROM you will find it as \Windows\keylock.exe
Otherwise try: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5875933&postcount=5
I am still looking for auto lock at suspend. I don't want to install a program bringing with it 100.000 functions.
I dont see the point in adding extra features to a lock screen. its there to keep the screen locked and thats it lol
Anyways, try 'lock device GUI'
It just adds the function to lock the device when the power button is pushed (Sleep).
Keeps the old lock screen, only adds function
Yea check out LockDevice. I use it and it works great..

DeviceLock.cab Works As Well...
I had similar issue. So I installed "DeviceLock.cab" and added it as a Quick Link on HCT Sense 2.5 Homescreen. Now I just have to click on the link to lock the device. Once the screen if off the keys don't matter.
Also used "Lock Screen With Bottom Slider" for easy access.
I can't post links, but if you search for quote phrase, you should be able to find a download.
Hope that helps.
Try smartlock. Works perfect! Just install the cab, then it can be found in: Start/Settings/System

Screen locking application

Very simple and very very light application.
Does exactly what it says on the TIN.
The reason I compiled this application is purely to avoid using power button as I don’t want it to worn out. To turn the screen on or off we have to use power button which might stop working if we use the button too much. This application will cut the use of the power button by 50% at least
Rather than using the power button to turn the screen on and off, tap on this application to turn the screen off. Very small application V1.0
I might release another one when I get feedback from the users.
If you want just exe file then copy it in to your phonewindows->start menu-> program folder
Or use cab file which will install it on the above location for you
Enjoy !!!!
Trying to be contructive, the way this application could be more useful (to me) would be if it triggered the standard screen lock at the same time as switching off the screen. This would save me tapping 'start' then 'lock' and then pressing the power button.

hiya,
much appreciate for your comments. do you mean turning screen off as well as locking the screen..? so that when you touch the screen it won't come back on...?
I'm working on to prepare better version i.e. it would be on the home screen so that no clicking on start menu and then this app.
cheers

I think he means that you program should not only turn off the devise, but also lock it with the standard WM lock at the same time. That would be good for me, at least.

screen off + lock at same time only pressing Powerbutton.
It work perfectly for me so as it is. I changed the left soft-key so that it will start "turn off the light.exe" .When the screen is off S2U2 will lock the screen. So I can turn off and lock the screen with only one click.
To change the soft key do this:
with a registry editor go to HKLM/Software/HTC/manila/ . in HomeLSKPath (left softkey) or HomeRSKPath (right softkey) write the address to "turn off the light.exe". HomeLSKText and HomeRSKText are the text for the softkeys.
That´s it!
update for touch diamond
hi everyone,
massive thanks to all those who provided replies. I have tried on my blackstone (Touch HD) and it does seems to turn off the screen plus all keys as well.
I can confirm that it doesnt lock all the keys i.e. doesnt lock the device on touch diamond model. I'll modify the program and upload the newer version with the feature of locking the keys plus turning off the screen.
once agian special thanks to everyone.
Certainly reading the comments above, people seemed to understand what I was getting at. With the screen off, the buttons on a HD will indeed be non-responsive, however if an event (SMS or similar) woke the screen, the device would be in an unlocked state. What I would be interested in is a program that turned off the screen and invoked the standard WM lock program (gwes.exe?).
Hope that makes sense.
i like this application but i think the icon is really ugly..
Hi,
is there a possibility to do a screen unlock application which can be activated by voice commander? the situation is this...
I used voice commander to launch google maps while my hand is busy when the screen is lock. however, i will need a program which can be initiated by the voice commander to unlock the screen so that i can navigate the maps. Right now i will have to unlock the screen the normal way which i find voice commander redundant since i'll have to use my finger during lunching anyway.
Can you help me on this? Many thanks in advance. =)

Here is the app that has the feature which you prefer:
LockDevice => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=542482
Thanks for the link!
Been using this app so i dont have to fumble with the power button to turn the screen off. Seems this app only turns off the screen and doesnt actualy put the phone in sleep. I would like an app like this that acts as the power button does. So when i put the phone to sleep with the icon, i cant accidently slide the keyboard out a touch and have the phone wake up.
The whole deal has to do with tilt 2's keyboard sensor and magnet cases. With this app, the keyboard sensor still activates when sliding into a magnet flap case, while having slie to wake disabled

Hiya,
I'm working on the program so that you can have configuration option to simulate power button to put phone in sleep mode or jus to turn the screen off. This utility was just for people who want to save power whilst listening to the music, etc.
Please keep any ideas/suggestion coming. Much appreciated guys.
Watch the space guys....
That is great inítiative. I use the screen off function actually for the purpose to save power when navigation. screen off when there is a long straíght way to drive.
Put device to sleep mode will cause gps signal lost, which is not so nice.
I can image that there will be a lot of person who wnat to have different adds-on on this small application, it might be a solution to provide command argument.
Thank you.
I will try to see whether this one works for my purpose. Actually in my situation, I even don't want any key be locked as these keys are mapped for navigation.
How about screen toggle thus it is possible to map this application to a key?
awesome, i mapped the exe to a hardware key next to standby. now i can easily save power while wardr listening to music. ^_^
it combines very well with s2u2 locking function too.
big thanks!

Tom, may be it was to late to find your toggle light off switch, but it was very important for me to find it, thank you man, you solved a terrible issue for me, which is that programs stop updating (eg: twitter) when the device is in standby mode.
I heard that you can release another one, so my feedback is:
it takes about 2 seconds to turn off the light, isn't there any faster??? ))
This application is great. Combined with the S2U2 and HD Tweak i don't even have to use the power button at all. Device locked by S2U2 as soon as i turn off the light, waking up device by pulling out the stylus and rebooting with the help of HD Soft reset. Thanks
P.S. You should really add a decent icon, even though people can change it if they want to.

How to soft restart the phone with 6.5?

Sounds simple, but a search did not turn up the answer. I just want a link that restarts the phone so I don't have to hold down the power button, wait, and then turn it on again. I know how to create a link, but what should it link to for a restart in WinMo 6.5? Or is there already a link burried on the phone somewhere?
On my TmoUS TP2 I use the stylus to poke the little hole in the side of my device...or you can search xda or google for a cab for SLIDE2SHUTDOWN.
I use this one. If you hold the power key you get the options to soft reset, turn off screen, turn off device

The esteemed Mr Snow () is correct, that cab is the simplest way to access the regular 3 standard shutdown options.
If you just want to click a shortcut to soft-reset, and that's the only option you care about for this, then the HDTweak app actually installs a soft-reset shortcut, that can be placed just like any other.
SPB Mobile Shell 3.5.3. user interface (commercial software) gives you an icon for softreset under Launcher/Tools/
Or, if you want something small, you can try MySoftReset.
