The problem is after soft-reset. ini-files has settings of program and when i do soft-reset, all ini files are replaced by original flash files. Can i modify register to not replaced by original files after reset?

How to delete/modify a wm5/wm6 windows rom file ?

Hi guys,
I'd like to modify a file from the windows folder.
I tried with TotalCommander and as the file is on the ROM, it says unable to delete/replace file
Is there a way to modify or replace this file ? I heard about making a cab file to replace the file but some help would be great
Thanks for your help
There is no way to delete or modify these files.
What you can do is copy your own file with the same name over it. The copy will actually reside in your storage memory and the system will use it until deleted or until you hard reset.
Note that if you want to replace system files on WM 5 / 6 you will need to sign them.
I think it would be better if you tell us what exactly you are trying to do as there may be a simpler way or an existing solution.
It's solved I tried with another rom and it works, I can replace the file.

Changing Files in Windows Dir

Hi,
I flashed a new ROM and now I want to change sym.txt in \windows dir, but it's read-only and I can't change that.
How can I write in this directory?
Thanks!
use Total Commander
nope - totalcommander cannot access the ROM, as i am informed. So some files will stay. I don't know yet how to break into on HTC 4350 (Herald)...
If this file is part of ROM you can not change it without cooking a new ROM.
What you can do it overwrite it. The new file will actually be stored on the storage memory but because it has the same name and path as the ROM file the system will go to it instead of the original. At least until you hard reset your device.

I tried that, it works. Although now the function of this file doesn't work anymore (translation of certain characters by pressing "dot" and "space" on the hardware keyboard of the HTC TyTn).
After editing the file and overwriting the original, nothing happens when I press dot+space...
That is because you ruined the signature (by editing an original file) or used an unsigned file.
All system files in WM 5 and up must be signed.

Oh I see. Thanks for the information. Can I somehow sign it myself?
Yes, the WM 5 / 6 SDKs contain the tools and sample signatures, but you need to "provision" your device (put the signature in so it will be recognized).
If you do a search on this forum you will find all the info you need.

Extended Rom and Hard Reset

Hello.
At first sorry for my language.
I have problem, after HR, Extended_rom aplication are not starting to install. I had unhide an extended rom folder and he is in main directory where is windows folder and program files folder(correct place for extended rom?? becouse I have heard thet should be in STORAGE).
Next I check how much take place and resco explorer show me only 0,9 MB.
When I enter in the folder I check a sum of all files and is above 15MB.
Yesterday I change a ROM on newer and I thought that extended rom also will be working after upgrade but he is not.
Any idea??
Cant you just go to the extended_rom and run all those .cab's from there?
No becouse show me that a each .*cab is not a Windows CE aplication or something.
I deleted eveything manualy except config.cfg and now I want to manualy copy all extended roms files in EXxtended_ROM folder but there is not inought space. I have less then 1MB. Enyone know how to change space Extended_ROM folder ??

Help with editin RX3715 ROM

Hi all
I'm absolutely bored with deleting all the stuff that will apear in RAM everytime I make hard reset so I've decided to modifi rom to remove it.
Because I'm noob in editing rom I've made some research and found this:
Oreginal rom update is password protected, so I found another way using MTTY.exe and make dump of rom to SD card. Then I could copy .nbf file from SD card with ntrw2.exe. When I open this .nbf file with hexeditor I can find files what I want remove so it's look I have decripted rom.
With tool called DumpRom it's possible to extract these files from decripted nbf file !!!
But I can't find any tool to edit these files
I allso know how to flash edited rom back to pda but If I make some change in hexeditor flashing ends with checksum error.
So I need help from someone skilled who will help me with editing files and calculating a new checksum.
And isit possible to find rom password If I have decripted and encripted version of .nbf ??
nobody can help?
bump. Someone help

Overwrite File In Use/On Reboot?

OK so I'm working on an app in which I need to copy a file from a local directory ("/Program Files") to the "/Windows" directory. I keep running into IOException errors telling me that the file cannot be accessed because it is being used by another process.
I've tried overwriting, deleting, renaming, moving... I tried using the MoveFileEx function to move on reboot, but the kernel32.dll is not available in Windows Mobile. I've also tried creating a separate .exe that will perform the copy/replace on reboot. I've tried just creating it in the startup folder, but by the time it launches the file is already being used. I've also created reg entries in HKLM>init to launch it, but it still seems to be starting too late...
However, if I create a simple .CAB installer that does nothing but place these files into the "/Windows" directory. The install will run then prompt for a soft reset.
So I have three questions...
1) Is there any way to force an overwrite of a file that is in use?
OR
2) How can I perform the copy/replace on reboot early enough that the files aren't in use?
3) Is the .CAB installer replacing the files at install or on reboot? and how?
Thanks in advance!!!
