HTC Updating ROM to include close button? - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hey guys, I'm the proud owner of an unbranded HTC TyTN (I guess the codename was hermes?)
I just read on engadget-mobile that HTC will be including a task manager that actually closes applications in the next rom, which I'm guessing they're calling AKU3.2 or something.
A few questions about that, HTC's europe website (I'm in the US, bought it unlocked) is really bare with info about upgrading roms on the TyTN.
I know that there are numerous threads about updating TyTN roms, however, they mostly seemed to be focused on the Cingular version. I don't want a carrier branded rom on my phone. Can someone please link me to the HTC Version of the latest ROM? Maybe a release candidate of it or something? I'm having a hard time here.
Thank you in advance guys!

Hmm.. it seems that I've found the answers to all of my questions...
I'm guessing that the HTC Task Manager just isn't released yet..
Thanks guys! I have a feeling I'm going to be spending a very, very long time on this website.

HTC TyTN WM6 Upgrade ... Need Help!

Dear all,
I contacted HTC for my device upgrading and ROM updates, and they direct me to this forum.
I have a TyTN unlocked device, and want to upgrade to WM6. I explored all what you posted here but couldn't decide which version and link is suitable for me. Any way, here down my device information, and I'm appreciating any help to upgrade my device to WM6.
Device Information:
Device Name: HTC TyTN (Unlocked)
Language: English
Processor: SC32442A - 400MHz
Memory: 49.05 MB
System: Windows Mobile 5.0 OS 5.1.195 (Build 14955.2.3.0)
That are all information I could get from my device
Need Help my friends.
After all, I beleive that HTC should have an upgrade area to support their devices.
Thank you in advance.
Hi there!
its good to know that HTC assistants sent you here on this forum !!
I can suggest you to go for the wm6 image black 2.5 as its been always the most stable for me, so read the wiki and all the documents to upgrade your hermes to that version.
http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=37&Itemid=26
and don't run in the upgrade, take your time to read everything and if you don't understand something, come back here.

It depends on your personal reasons for upgrading. If you want to upgrade because of more speed and more stability you should try Black 2.5. If you are doing it because of adventuresomeness you should give all of the great roms here a try.
But at least you should try Black 2.5, Duttys V2 and Custels 1.3 to find out which one is the best for you. You should also try different radios to see if theres a difference in your area.
And don't forget the most important object: read mrvanx upgrade guides very very carefully and follow every step exactly.
be aware that the ROMs here are *unofficial* and *unsupported* ROMs.
HTC will NOT help you out if you screw up your device.
if you are unsure about flashing, then stay with the stock ROM.
I have a UK unlocked Tytn and would very strongly recommend Black 2.5.
My first ever ROM upgrade was Black 1.2 and it was soo god. 2.0 was even better and 2.5 better still. Have had no problems, battery life is much better, doesn't lockup/freeze any more, loads more memory available.....i could go on.
Go for it - follow mrvanx's upgrade guide. he makes it very easy
Flashig roms is one way... be careful...
When I first flashed a WM6 Rom on to my HERMES I made sure I read all the preinstall instructions very carefully as I didn't have a clue about flashing. MR VANX's guide is excellent, follow it carefully and you can't go wrong.
I have now successfully flashed numerous ROMS on to my device.
No-one can tell you which is the best ROM as they are all excellent for their own different features and customisations. You will need to try a few and see which you like best.
Good Luck.
I highly doubt
That an HTC representative sent someone here for ROM updates to WM 6.0.
If they did and are caught, they will probably be terminated.
I deal with HTC regularly and they don't condone or encourage our methods of tuning and research.
Be careful out there.
Thank you
Thank you a lot for your replies guys. They helped me a lot. I'll do the upgrade and will back to you with the results. Thanks again.

It always amazes me how corporate structures can be so schizoid. I too have received- from in-the-trenches personel- a pointer to this site specifically for beta testing WM6 Push. Conversely, the moderators here made it clear that management at HTC was a major impetus behind MS's request that the ftp archives be pulled.
The kicker for me is that the Wiki on HTC's US site specifically points to this XDA-developers and those postings are all vetted by someone at HTC USA. I'm thankful for that because that's how I found this site in the first place.
My Upgrading Status
First of all, I would like to add my voice to (teambnet) that I'm thankful for them to made me know this website and forum in the first place.
OK, about my upgrading status guys, I did exactely as shown in mrvanx.org website and did install WM6 Black 2.5, everything is gone fine except one thing, that the button of contact voice tag is not working. When I push that button, it gives me a message "Error opening the shortcut or locating the target filename.", I tried then to assign the shortcut to a program by going to Start --> Settings --> Buttons, but I couldn't find the program that should be assigned. I don't know if my problem are clear or not but I tried to explain as much I could. Any suggestions to solve that?
Thanks all,

I always suspected that secretly HTC were using us as beta testing guinea pigs, now it looks like I was right! And half of the fixes for their bugs are created by developers on this site.
Seriously though, if your Hermes is no longer covered by the original HTC warranty (as mine was from the very first day I got it, since I bought it from an "unauthorized" distributor), then HTC have nothing to lose by pointing someone to this site. They might as well have said, "Flush it down the toilet for all we care..."
John
HTC's wiki is just like ours, anyone can edit it... So i doubt that HTC themselves put a link to XDA on their wiki, but someone else probably did..
You need to install the voice commander CAB located on the first page of BLACK2.5 Then remap the button.
You should read thru the numerous posted before asked already resolved issues. Congrats on the UPGRADE!!!

Finally Finished
Hi all,
Thank you stuckes, I did as you told me and everything gone very nice. WM6 is a nice OS, not that much different from WM5 at least for me. But, it's nice. Thank you all for your help in that.
I got a question, when I would to upgrade, there are many versions of WM6, Black2.5 and other versions, where can I find a complete comparison with screenshots of them to decide if I'm gonna change to another one or stick to black 2.5?
Regards,
Arnie gets tough with the chefs.....

There's a black 3.0.1.
Easily found along with a list of many other ROMs on the wiki page here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Cooked_ROMs
And this is the link to the Black 3.0.1 thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=305940

Upgrade to WM6???

I have a Cingular 8525 and it is unlocked and I use T-Mobile service with it. I see that T-mobile has released the WM6 upgrade...http://home.businesswire.com/portal...d=news_view&newsId=20070502006572&newsLang=en
My question is should I upgrade using the T-mobile version or should i wait and get the cingular version of WM6? Also, is it worth the trouble to upgrade? Im a pretty heavy user of all the features of the phone.
Also, what software would you recommend me using to backup my programs on my phone if i do upgrade?
Thanks in advance,
Rjp20
tell me how that works out loading a WM6 smartphone ROM on your hermes i would love to know...

I would say "Yes" Go ahead and upgrade your phone with that Rom.
Is it worth the trouble; well Tell us the trouble you have after you upgrade to the t-mobile rom.
As for Backup software I would suggest ArcServe 7. Oh wait I think ArcServe has a newer mobile version!
Seriously, you should read the wiki and maybe a few threads before upgrading (or should I say bricking) your phone.

If you wernt so fast to be a SMART ASS you would realise that they have ALSO released a version for the MDA and the Dash...
90 post no less... Your post was pointless and not helpful at all. It just showed how much of an ASS you really are
As I understand it, Cingular has a load of bloatware installed - but if you use this stuff then the t-mobile ROM won't include a lot of it and you'll need to install it by cab files. A lot of the cabs are included in some of the xda-dev WM6 ROMS. Using the Cingular ROM should also keep you in warranty if anything goes wrong.
If you're a heavy user of the standard phone functions then either the Cingular or t-mobile ROMS should be ok (but remember to make a note of your wireless/data/mms settings or get the cab file to re-install them - maybe here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_provider_cabs ).
With both of the above ROMS you get the official support through the customer service help lines. This will generally be limited to a twat who knows ****-all about phones except that the one superglued to his ear hurts after a 12 hour shift.
If you want good WM6 ROMS with good support (not always immediate but often quicker than queueing for a helpdesk) then try Black or LSVW. Both are great and most annoyances or problems have been found and already resolved.
As for the backup software, all the stuff I need backed up is already synced with outlook. The actual program files I always re-install after a ROM upgrade - I think this is the safest way. A piece of software which is always mentioned when people ask about backups is SPB backup http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/?en. I can't recommend it because I don't use it, however it seems to be highly regarded.

You can't be serious.
Have you read a frickin' thing in your 40+ posts?
Load that Dash ROM on anything, right? ****, put it on your Panasonic wireless 5.8 GHz phone while you're at it.
Gimme some of what you're smokin', dude.
You know that the MDA is a Wizard, and your 8525 is a Hermes, right? You will brick your phone if you don't follow the instructions for a Hermes.
As for bloatware, Black 3.0 is the newest and fastest ROM out there.
t-mo mda is for WM5.0?I
i looked at the "do i need this upgrade?" and it says it's WM5.0. Is anyone sure that this is for WM6.0 and not 5.0? The dash upgrade clearly says 6.0.
Oops, I brick my phone. . . Perhaps not. Was it a wizard or hermes? I don't know. Just gimme a link to some WM6 roms and I will flash them iusing Vista. Probably more than one rom at a time.
p.s. Please don't take this seriously. Enjoy!
It was announced

That T-Mo was releasing WM 6.0 for the MDA. Can you get into the OS.NB file and check the build dates?
Otherwise, look up Faria's Wizard ROM and unlock your phone. I used Faria's on my K-Jam before I switched to a TyTN.

Official ATT ROM (uncooked)

Hey Guys,
I am hoping someone has been able to test the BlackBerry Connect on this baby.
What luck have you had? I am not able to cook my ROM due to company unit and I really want to get rid of ROM 1.34.
2.15 has no working BBC so I am stuck with this old ROM.
I beg the swammies of this forum to assist in ANY way please...
Bump! Bump!
184 views an no one has any ideas? Is there someone out there with this official ROM that is willing to give this a go?
i am deeply sorry, willing to herlp you eagerly, but i have no idea about your problem, deeply sorry again.
Suggestion: Try to revise your way of prsenting your problem, may someone get understand it and help you.
it has already being posted bro this is old news if you still cannot find it google htc america 8525 support and you will find the link!
Thanks guys! I saw that the WM6 BBC in some ROMs work and others do not. I know that there have been some great cooks that have been able to get this working. I was hoping that since the 8925 supports it, the new ATT WM6 upgrade for the 8525 would support it as well. I did so searches and saw that the leaked ROM did not support it but, since this release is different, I had high hoped.
Leoiden, You mention this is old news but this was just released 5 days ago. Will it not work then? HTC says it not supported but, they have not been able to tell me if it works.
I mean the 1.34 ROM does not have BBC support but, it works great. Since I am not able to upgrade and go back, I have no way of testing it so, I was hoping someone already went through it.
Thanks in advance.
In some cooked ROMs, BB Connect is available. If you cant find one, then you can cook one into a ROM with one of the fantastic kitchens available. Try doing a search for BB Connect just specifically in the Hermes Mobile 6 forum. Hope I helped a little.
-Nstefanelli-
Yes, it did help. I am not allowed to run cooked ROM's on this device. This is why I was hoping there was a solution to run BBC on the new Official ATT WM6 ROM.
There are lots of threads telling me how to do it but they are all for the HTC ROM, the cooked ROMS and other ROMS. Non of them tell me if and when the ATT WM6 ROM rolled out Nov. 2007 will take a BBC load and work.
I know it is unsupported. I am just hoping someone out there has either tried and failed or tried and succeeded.
There is so much information out there. Weeding through the non relevant stuff to find the info that pertains to your situation is what I am having trouble with.
Hmmm... I am wondering if the BBC software for the Tilt will work on the Hermes. I am hoping that is the same build and therefore may work. Who has tried this?

Telstra Apps on Cooked Rom???

I work for Telstra and have been a wm follower for quite some time. However the rom released with the Telstra HTC HD has been butchered to say the least. The weather tab is gone and has been replaced by 4 different Telstra Tabs. The rom has telstra branding all over which is annoying and it also has a few known issues with lag and glitches. I like to for my good customers to have a cooked rom put on but they including myself miss out on things like foxtel on mobile and the bigpond portal which comes in handy some times.
So my question is is there a sepperate app that can be put on to allow foxtel or is there some sort of work around.
I know this question is only aimed at aussie users but any input would greatly be appreciated.
hey mate,
Yeah i had to same problem when i got my telstra hd.. hated it! so i have flashed it but would love to have the foxtel shortcuts in start. Im sure some fellas here could extract certain things if you provide them with a link to the official telstra rom..
if not i could try but aint guranteing anything! lol
i've never actually dumped my rom just got the phone out of the box the first day it came out and flashed half hour later so if someone does have a telstra rom post link please. I'd be willing to donate to whoever can extract.
well i guess theres nothing on this than.
Load the 15 tab cab
Guys, this has been discussed before. Simplest option is to load the 15 tab cab, it removes 99% of the Bigpond and Telstra stuff and gives you back the weather etc
that is a fix yes however the rom itself still has a number of issues and call me odd but i like having dutty's rom's on my phone. having searched on the blackstone forum i couldn't find anything. a link would be great.
My phone was bought for me by my employer so I don't want to muck around too much with things in case I stuff something up?
Will installing a new ROM void my warranty? Is this 15 Tab addon involve flashing?
All I want to do is get rid of all the Telstra crap and have my weather tab back. Should I just install the generic ROM update off the official website to keep my warranty?
adding a new theme will not void your warranty. If you do want to mucj around with the rom make sure you dump your telstra rom first so you can always go back to it.
This link may help you
Have a look through this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=483199
At post 45 you will find a cab you can download on custom ROMs like Dutty etc.
Cheers
Telstra
Hi all not to sure how this 15 tabs goes ... gotta test it my self but i did find a cab install that called touch flo 3d for hd that installs on any ppc phone and when i installed it on my HD it restored the eather and stocks tabs and also the customising option while keeping the telstra stuff as well ... this is not the esult I wanted but it sounds like the one you guys need and you dont need to reflash, one thing though this is a pretty big file and it takes a wile to install so be patient ... dunno who developed it but thaks to that guy or gal who ever they are cheers. get the file from here - http://rapidshare.com/files/194374786/TF3D_HD.CAB.html

Need stock 6.1 for AT&T Tilt 2 (or something similar)

Sorry for the noob question but I'm new to the Rhodium. I need to flash a bunch of AT&T Tilt 2s with winmo 6.1. I looked at the wiki and I don't see a 6.1 rom for AT&T. Does anyone have any experience with the WWE HTC 6.1 roms for Rhodium on the Tilt 2? I'm concerned there might be locale issues and so on.
I won't have access to a test device until the day I need to get this done, hence why I need some advice
I think this is the one.
http://shipped-roms.com/download.php?category=windows%20mobile&model=Rhodium&file=HTCTilt2ATTOriginalShipROM.exe
Got it from here:
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=windows%20mobile&model=Rhodium
How can I tell if that's 6.1 without flashing though?
Sent from my SPH-P100 using XDA App
Everything I've found online indicates that AT&T shipped the Tilt 2 with 6.5 from day one. Therefore, linking me to the shipped rom from AT&T isn't much help :\
I still need to know if the WWE roms from HTC will work reasonably well, I need this for work purposes and I can't ship phones out to people unless I know they're not going to have a Euro keymap or something!
That's correct, Tilt2 never had a WM6.1 official ROM. It was released with 6.5.
If you flash the WWE, it will have the keymap for the Euro version. The ATT keyboard layout is unique, since they changed where the number keys are, versus the layout for every other version of the TP2.
This CAB will configure the keyboard properly on just about any ROM:

Out of curiosity, where did you find the stock 6.1 ROM that you flashed on your Tilt2s? I've always wanted to put 6.1 on my Tilt2, but never got around to it. A link to what you used (besides the HardwareKeyboard cab) would be much appreciated.
EDIT:
I believe I found where one is found via a previous post above. (I thanked it by the way.) I'm currently downloading: RUU_Rhodium_HTC_Europe_1.19.401.0_Radio_Rhodium_3.44.25.27_Signed_Ship.exee and going to flash it in a while.
